Starting socks.

I started these socks earlier this month in just plain stocking stitch.
They were either going to be for me or Hubs. I was going to decide later if l wanted them or not.

The last couple of pairs l gave made for Hubs have gone really baggy on the leg within 3 wears.
I don't know why as its never happened before.
It was also different makes of sock wool so not a production problem.

I decided to frog these, in stocking stitch and redo in 2 x 1 rib. Hopefully that will keep its shape better.

I'm not telling Hubs they are for him just in case l decide to keep them myself or put them away for him for Christmas.

Yes, thats the dreaded C word.

With Sox being here now and my crafting time reduced l am going to have to start thinking about gifts early this year. I do like to give a hand knitted gift alongside a bought one if l get the time.
I think some people even expect it now.

Finished socks.

I have finished the Feather & Fan socks, they are on my sock blockers from the previous post. They do the job very well.

I really enjoyed this pattern.
Its a 4 round repeat of which 3 rounds are knit. Thats right, just 1 pattern round.
They look alot more complicated than that.

I will definately be making these again, possibly for Christmas gifts.

Sox.

I know Sox has his own blog now, click the link above, he posts a daily photo every day.
He went for the snip today.
We had to drop him off at 9.15 and were told they'd phone us later.
Those 5 hours were so long, waiting to see if he was ok.

In less than 4 months this furry monster has totally wormed his way into my heart and l can't imagine life without him now.

Homemade sock blockers.

I really want a nice set of wooden sock blockers to make photographing my finished socks easier and nicer looking.

Until l decide which ones l want l decided to make some.

I bought 2 plastic placemats from the pound shop.

I laid the socks on the placemat and drew around the sock, slightly bigger.

I then cut out the sock shape slightly larger than my ink mark. I guess this gave me a blocker thats about 5mm in total bigger than the sock.

I then used the template to cut out the 2nd blocker the same size.

I now have sock blockers in my husbands and my sock size for £2.

This is a very handy idea especially if like me you knit socks in alot of different sizes.

Just to share.

Taking Sox for a walk this morning l noticed all the thistles lining the lane.

They looked beautiful.

Walking back l had to take a photo of this beauty.

This was taken with my Blackberry phone, l don't think its done too bad.
I might take the camera next time.

I'm thinking the photos would look stunning, framed in my studio.

Patchwork square finished.

At last l have finished this, well l say at last but l've just realised l cut the pieces out Friday so l suppose its not too bad considering its stitches by hand.

I had a few problems with this one.

I couldn't get the squares to line up in the centre. 3 x 1.5" squares sewn together with 1/4" seam allowance should then measure 3.5" but l just couldn't get it right.

I think what l was doing was using my 1/4" rule to mark my seam and then sewing down it. Now l don't know if l am right but sewing just above the line worked better for me, l presume its the width of pencil and angle of line with the rule but if l sewed above then everything fit better.

I like this square although the next one l do will be easier. I want to practice getting everything correct and lots of 1.5" x 1.5" squares may be making it harder then it needs to be.

I like the colours and think they wotk well together. The material is from 2 different duvet covers l bought from the charity shop. I am still practicing so any material will do.

I have decided that with these patchwork squares l am doing l am going to practice quilting them.
I have 3 squares now and l'm going to back each one, stuff it ( probably a more correct term for that ) , bind it and then practice quilting through the layers.
They may as well come in useful for practicing on.

All in all l am quite pleased l have finished this one.
It looks pretty good and measures in at an almost perfect 9" x 9".

That is, it looks good until l put the ruler over the top to measure it. I then realised that each square is 1" so my little squares should fit neatly inside.
As you can see ------ they don't.
It starts off well in the middle and then somehow goes slightly wonky.

Oh well, room for improvement.

On the smoking news,
I haven't managed to stop completely.
I haven't bought any and l have been using the electric ones.
I have had about 8 of Hub's Silk Cut over 2 evenings though. Even that is good for me as l am usually 20+ a day so l am claiming it as a small victory.
I have found though that as l don't have any.in the house l am not bothered. If l had some l know full well l would be smoking them which makes me think its more habit than addiction.
I will manage to stop completely.

LAST TIME.

I gave up smoking again today at 12.33pm.

This is the last time!

I really can't afford to do it anymore and its really silly just throwing money away.

I have texted Hubs and told him not to pick me any up on his way home from work and I don't have any available money in the house to go and buy any.

I do still have the electric ( nucig ) ones in the house so I will use those if I feel I need to.

Please wish me luck, I really want this to be the last time.

Blooming marvellous.

Looking from my kitchen window l get to see these plants.

The rose has loads of heads on it and the lily is the first one bloomed so far this year from my two plants.

The pots l have on the patio and l can see them when l am sat in the room.
I painted the pots cream with normal emulsion and l am pleased with how they have turned out.
Each pot has 3 marigold plants in it and should look wonderful when the flowers come out.
Hopefully they will look like the ones in the terracota pots.
Those l planted with random flower seeds just to see what would happen, l am pleased with the results.

Sox free day.

Fridays my lovely Hubs has started taking Sox to work with him.

I get a day on my own.

I could go into town and look round the shops but l have realised that it benefits me alot more having a crafting day.

Today l finished this patchwork square that l started months ago.

I am pleased with it although l think it is slightly smaller than its supposed to be.
It doesn't matter as l have no plans for them yet.
I am just enjoying learning something new.
I stitch it all by hand as my sewing machine hates me.
I like the process of creating something with my hands, doesn't matter how long it takes, for me its all in the making.

The 2nd photo is the block l am making next.
I have just cut the pieces out for it.
I have taken a photo of the construction in the book so l don't have to keep the book with me all the time.

This Galaxy Tab is worth every penny for my crafting.
