29 Jan 09 - my last post

Hey guys. Apparently my selection box for the different fonts disappeared, so I'll have to make do with this font. Anyway, today was really bad. i was woken at about 4 in the morning because of a mosquito buzzing around my left ear. Reflexively, I slapped at the air where it was. Normally, that would be the end of my troubles but instead, the mosquito got slapped into my ear. And so it stayed there for the rest of the day. At least, until now. I'm saying this because my dad thinks it's a psychological thing, and that the mosquito has been long gone. Basically, the whole day was real bad because that stupid mosquito kept buzzing in my ear so I couldn't concentrate with it there. I just hope that it doesn't become serious because I don't want anything to happen to my ear. Call me paranoid, whatever, but I dn't quite care. I don't want that thing in my ear for the whole week, so I'm wishing for the best but preparing for the worst.

It makes me think back upon the times that I did my previous posts. When I didn't have such an annoying disraction there. I really shouldn't take my comforts for granted, now that i think back on it. Anyway, the day proceeded relatively well, apart from the major annoyance in my ear. Sure, this post is a little last minute, but I really hope you guys liked my blog. I know, this post is very cut short and I might not keep this blog after it's graded. To all you guys out there, this post was not meant to be in depth because of the irritant noise still lingering, but I once again would want to thank you all for your comments(though very few in number) and all the support anyone has given. Many thanks to Xun Yi who helped me come up with this blog name and many of the songs i now know. Rock on dude!

See you guys in school...

20 Jan 2009 - normal school day

Hi everyone. I am nearing the end of my blogging stint for homework purposes, so I hope you guys have enjoyed my posts. Well, today wasn't out of the ordinary but it still is something to blog about. The day started with me dragging myself out of my bed again, only this time, I wasn't feeling drowsy by the time I got to the bathroom. After packing my bag, I headed for school in earnest, hoping to find Jonathon and his device for our math project ready before me. I was quite shocked to see that his was seat empty when I reached the classroom. As unexpected as it was, I had to call off the measurement of the school crest. After briefly explaining to Haziq that Jonathon had not come and we couldn't measure it today, he shrugged his shoulders and headed off for the parade square. Later, we had our morning assembly and following that, we returned to our classrooms. OK, so that's not out of the ordinary. There actually wasn't any particular event that was striking, apart from the fact that we couldn't get our measurements.

Later on after school, I joined the class deco team until 3.30 to help them prepare some decorations. I say prepare because I didn't actually put up the items for decoation. After that, I headed home and got myself changed up. I practiced my violin for about an hour(seeing that I'm still a little rusty since the RSP orientation camp). There's still tonight for today, but I think this will have to do for now. I'll be back soon to finish this up. All the best everyone!

Ps: I never quite managed to get a matching photo or song for any specific posts, but I've embedded this video for this post as a little something to add flavor. Its about this guy called Greg Patillo who beatboxes and plays the flute. Impressive, huh?

18 Jan 09 - Two experiences over the weekend

OK, I've finally gotten myself to post again after such a long time. This time, it's about the events that happened both yesterday and today. This post is going to be longer than usual, so I hope you don't doze off while reading this post. I'll start with yesterday's events.

My alarm clock didn't sound off that morning, which was a relief from being jolted out of bed by the sudden noise. Miraculously, I managed to wake up without the noisy alarm. I got out of bed, not forgetting what I was going to do today. I was going to the Singapore Science Centre to support my classmates who had made it to the finals of the inaugural science buskers challenge. To be more specific, there were two teams of three, with Tristen, Joseph and Lie Wen in one team and Joejyn, Bok Woon and Jia Peng in the other. Despite being slightly behind time, I managed to reach school before the chartered bus had left. I scanned the small group waiting to board the bus, and I noticed that only four other people from our class had come down to show their support. I felt it quite a pity for our numbers to be so few, but at least there were a lot more people who came with us, along with a few other teachers. It wasn't long before we got on the bus and started our journey there. Nonetheless, we reached the science centre in good time and we quickly got ourselves organised.

At the entrance of the annexe building, we were sorted into 'cheerers' and 'voters'. We, of course, being from the same class as the two teams, were shoved by and along the PSLs as 'cheerers'. Initially, we tried to change their decision, but our attempts were futile. So we trudged along until we reached our seats. Then, we awaited the performance of the top ten finalists. The first few groups didn't score very well, but fortunately, our two teams were not in that category. When the time came for them to perform, they did so with confidence and a serving of humor. Tristen's team did well when it was their turn, but Joejyn's team scored what I would have called a landslide victory. I'm saying this because they received the highest number of votes(which accounted for 25% of the total score) and had the highest score from the judges too(which accounted for another 50%). I believe you all know where the last 25% would come from. Anyway, the day was interesting as the experiments performed by the contestant teams were really interesting. After the seventh performance, the guest of honour, Mr Vivian Balakrishnan entered the auditorium. After a brief address, we sat down and continued to watch the remaining three performances. At the end of the performance, all the teams were called back out onto the stage for the prize giving ceremony. They announced the third team, then the second, and finally the first team... Joejyn's team! For those who think I'm anticlimatic, you're very welcome... And so this segment ends here.

Now its time for what happened today. I went for church again today, but first I went for cell breakfast. I'll elaborate if you post a comment on this post or the cbox. When we reached Redhill Market, We split up to go buy our own food. I chose not to buy anything because I had already eaten at home. Later when we met up, we decided on a table where we sat to eat. As my seniors ate, my cell leader shared his lesson. When he was halfway through it, someone pointed out a Malay lady sitting in the middle of the road behind us. After a slight hesitation, my seniors decided that they should go persuade her to get off the road while we remain behind. At first, they had some trouble persuading her off, but eventually another bystander 'threatened' her by saying something like he'd call the police. Eventually, they managed to pull her to safety. She later got up and and walked off into the market. I questioned my leader about what had just happened and he told me that he thought she was trying to commit suicide(I'm not trying for the position of hero, if you thought so). Anyway, my cell leader was concerned that she would try to get herself hurt in some other way so he asked us to split up and keep an eye on her. I followed one of my seniors named Ivan.

We never managed to find her so my cell leader decided to do another sweep while we go back to church. We, however, decided to follow him on another sweep because we weren't going to be late for church just yet. On the second sweep, we still couldn't find her so my cell leader called the police and we waited for their arrival. When they did come, however, my cell leader was quite dissapointed. "Why did they send an ambulance?" he said. The police officers asked us a ew questions and were about o leave when my cell leader turned around and found her. "There! There she is!". I instictively stepped aside to make way for them and watched as they escorted her to the ambulance. At that point of time, she carried the same dazed face as the one i had seen earlier. I would say that was a big relief. These things dn't happen often and they often can have catastrophic results. Anyway, I'm glad some good came out of it and I had a good time in church. I'll end here for today and will be posting soon.

Ps: No offence there, Tristen and team. Also, I'm beginning to think i should have cut this post into two seperate ones...

14 Jan 09 - The RSP sec 1 welcome camp

I had a great day today. The morning began with me lugging my heavy violin case to school. Thanks to my kind neighbour, I didn't have to lug it to school, but back home only. I'll elaborate about my violin later. Anyway, the day passed by pretty fast and i heaved the violin case down to the canteen.

During our lunch break, Daniel Kong and I exchanged a few questions and answers about each other's instruments. He told me about his guitar and, roughly, how to select a good guitar. At the end of our lunch break, we headed upstairs and awaited the what else the day had in store for me. While in the RSP room, I took some time to practice my other pieces as I have grown rusty after not practicing for a while.

Then, the new batch of RSPers came into the room. For the first time, I truly noticed how many of them there were. After a brief introduction for the sec 1s, we went on a small tour of the RSP room. After the rather disordered tour, we proceeded on to 'the amazing race'. Some of us went along with the groups of juniors to make sure they didn't get, well, lost. Most of the proceedings went fine untill we got the last clue, which throughly stumped me and my team. It was only later whe I realised what the clue meant.

When we finally reached the ending point, which was the RSP room(BIG surprise), my team broke up and all of us had to wait for the last 2 teams which only arrived later. For a moment there, I almost thought that I had brought my violin for nothing. Not too long after that thought had made its way into my head, I was called up to perform. 'Ok, so maybe I was wrong' I thought. I walked to the stage alongside Daniel Kong, I whispered to him, 'good luck'. I'd say we started off pretty well. And then it went on... untill we finally ended. it actually felt better than I expected. Not to mention Zhe Xuan's singing... haha, I'm just joking. Everybody was shouting 'encore!' at the end of it. So, the sec 1s did get it, but in this way: All the sec 2s got onto the stage and sang. After that, someone managed to egg Ms Shyamira and Mr Leo to come up and sing. It was all really fun and funny!

When it came time for us to leave, I slowly packed up and walked to the bus stop with, again, Daniel Kong. It wasn't untill after a lengthy wait and a good bit of talking that I finally found myself on the bus. And then there was a long, arduos lugging of the violin home. All in all, it was a fun day and I really hope that I'll get to perform and assist a new batch of sec 1s sometime soon. Catch you guys later.

12 Jan 09 - craft work for D&T

Hi everyone, I'm back again. Today's events were, I would say, quite unexpected. Today, we had a relatively lengthy but not boring character education lesson. Then came recess, during which i spent most of time in the classroom. I frankly don't know how it was that the door came to be unlocked or for what reason, but anyway, that was where i found myself in for the whole of my recess.

Not too long after our recess, during science class, we heard an announcement from Mr Loh. It was that all classes were to end by 1.45. Yep, great news for everyone. Very good news for me, because that meant that I wouldn't have bahasa indonesia for that day. However, there was the inevitable piece of homework that I hadn't completed but that was no big deal.

After finishing off the piece of homework(which I won't disclose), Tomus followed me back to my place to do some styrofoam carving for our D&T project. I'd suppose that you think its, overrated to start so early, but we were just experimenting to get the hang of carving figures before the actual project started. I hoped that the tools at my place were appropriate, on the way back home. I was thinking, 'i hope i can find my leatherman at home'. just in case you guys don't know what that is, it's a multipurpose tool that takes the form of a pair of pliers when the other tools are not out. Really handy for breaking things to make things, ya know? Later on, I did find it and it worked out quite well, despite the knife's unwieldy size. Eventually, I managed to gather a set of the following tools: my leatherman, a small chisel, a multipurpose knife and an old sewing needle. This became my 'impromptu' carving tools for the day.

With that, I end today's post. Plus a small side note that i've deleted my first post. 1, because it's too short and 2, because it was... well inappropriate. It will be replaced soon. And I finally uploaded the song. Enjoy.
