I have been threatening to do something about our dining room table (see picture above). Oh my word, it was so so sad. We got it for a great price when we moved into our home. That was before I was taking pictures, and we did not have a ton of money to spend on furniture, so although I did not love it, we bought it. We stripped the paint, and for some reason we painted it grey. Mostly because we had lots of grey paint, and Dev was in the mood to paint. So it ended up being grey. The past few years the girls have spilled fingernail polish on it, and its has had lots of love. And I've grown to hate it more and more.... :)
We have shopped around a little bit, but my goodness the tables I loved were close to $2000. So last weekend I somehow talked Devin into building a new table. :)
Here are a few pictures from my phone. The girls must have taken this blurry picture while we were at lows getting wood.
The girls helped a lot! Dev let them help drill holes and put screws in.
And, Indie played in a laundry basket. We also spent most of Saturday evening in the garage. We pretty much neglected the kids... and Sailyr even had to make Finley dinner. :)
Almost done! I told Devin I wanted to take a heavy tool and beat the table up a little bit.... so it did not have such perfectly straight edges. He let me... but he could not watch. He went in the house until I was done. :) But once I was finished he came back out and he loved how it looked!
Then we stained it and we also bought resin to pour on top. That way there are no crevasses for food to get stuck in, as well as a protective layer so it wont get dented if the kids play at it. We had never used resin before... but it turned out great!
It looks beautiful in my kitchen and its big too! We sized the table top to 7x4 feet. Wide enough to set stuff in the middle, and long enough for 3 chairs to fit. (now we can have 6 kids!! ...... kidding.) I need to go and buy some chairs that match a little better, and Devin is going to build a bench for one side of it this weekend. But I'm so proud of us! We really work so well together, it turned out beautiful! And we built it all for under $250... much cheaper than the thousands of dollars I would have spent on one similar to this.
Another project checked off the list. And now Devin is not safe. He did such a good job I'm ready for him to build all kinds of things!
