Backdoor Stomp - Steps in the Alley (1999)

 Backdoor Stomp was a ska band from Brisbane Australia that was formed in 1998 by Tom McKenzie who was the sax player for The Funaddicts.

There are ten songs on this CD and eight are covers with only two being original songs by the band but those originals are well worth the price of the CD. "What's Goin' On" is a cover of the Funaddicts song which Tom McKenzie wrote so it is a cover but it isn't. And they do a Puzzles cover which I think they did a great job on.

1 Steps in the Alley

2 Inspector Martens

3 Trouble

4 Breakin' Up

5 What's Goin' On?

6 Hey Yo!

7 Tequila

8 Lorainne

SKAM / Beer 'N' Skatals - Australian ska demos

 These two bands are completely unrelated but I had a file called "Australian ska demos" and these are the two bands I have never posted yet.

The Beer 'N' Skatals songs were found on Soundcloud but the SKAM CD-R rips were sent to me by Tom H.

SKAM* were from Sydney and they started in 2000 and ended in 2003. This demo CD is probably the only thing they recorded. Track #2 was just a few seconds of noises - not an actual song - so it was omitted from this post.

I don't think I know Tom H but I appreciate that he took the time to share this gem with us. Thank you Tom!

Beer 'N' Skatals

1 Dr. Dekker

2 Don DeLion

3 Phoenix City

4 Police and Thieves

5 Was My Number

SKAM - CD-R (2002)

* S.K.A.M. was said to stand for Subversion Kaos And Mayhem.

Tom stated that he thinks "DT Patient" and "Thursday" are the standout tracks. I agree.

Allniters - Still in Love (1988)

 There was a time when this song was the "long lost" Allniters song that nobody had. It was released on a compilation of Australian bands called "Export Music Australia Presents Crocodile CD" and the compilation was nearly impossible to find. Especially outside of Australia. Thankfully we live in the future and the internet, and specifically Discogs, turns what was once 'nearly impossible' into a minor pain-in-the-ass.

The song is also readily available on YouTube but the sound quality isn't great. So this download is taken directly from the Crocodile CD.

Here's the version on YouTube that was uploaded by the band.

If you're interested in the whole compilation you can find it HERE.

Yeah Yeah!

 Yeah Yeah! was a ska/rockabilly/swing/skiffle band from Australia that included Steveo from Area 7. I think they started in 1987 and they finally called it quits around 1997. I think.

 I'm really no expert on this band but I think this is everything they released in their time as a band.

Some of these recordings are my own rips and scans but I was able to fill in the blanks thanks to the YouTube channel run by Steve Rodgers.

Yeah Yeah! - Because She Loves Me 7" (1991)

A - Because She Loves Me

B- Bring My CadillacBack

(Neither of these two songs are ska but this record is part of the collection so it's included.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah Yeah! - ...It's Summer (1993)
1 California Sun
2 Don't Push
3 Learn to Crawl
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tote - Bootleg-O-Matic 2-song promo cassette (1994)

1 - Yeah Yeah! - Time Bomb

2 - Yeah Yeah! with The Living End - Out of this Game

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah Yeah! - Gangsters 7" (1996)
The Offbeats [Melbourne, Australia] - 1983 demo tape
In 2011 I made this post that was contributed entirely by Merrick who noted that the song "Ripple Sole Shoes" by the Offbeats was, as he said, "rare as rocking horse poo" - a phrase I had never heard before. I later Googled it and it turns out this is a phrase popular in Ireland? I don't care where it's from. I haven't heard anybody say it before then, nor since then, but I like it.
Anyway...this is that ultra rare demo tape from the band from Melbourne, Australia called Offbeats. There is a well known band from New Zealand called Offbeats but this is not them. This is a totally different band.
Radics - United We Stand (1989)
 This was an Australian rock/reggae band. The crayon drawing in the center of the cover of this record is unique on every cover. They're all similar but they are hand-cut copies of prints done by the band. There were probably multiple copies of each drawing but they were cut differently and glued to the front cover making every single cover unique.
I actually have two copies of this record and both have different covers.
Quick story... Years ago I had a mailman that used to hit on the women in the neighborhood. He made it clear that he was married but his wife had breast cancer and had to have her breasts removed. So he became obsessed with other women's breasts. He literally asked my wife to send naked pictures to him.
We complained to the post office and nothing was done about it. He was still our mailman.
I received this record in the mail and he literally snapped it and folded it in half to fit it into the mailbox. This record.  Because we filed a complaint.
This pic here is from the first copy I got. I didn't scan the second copy but it looks much different from this one. You can see how different they can be from this image on Discogs
1 Dee Dup
2 Rocktime
3 Belly Beat
4 Back in South Africa
Loin Groin - Arise Sir Loin (2003) -and- Long Kick EP (1999)
I think these two releases were only sold at shows. Not positive, but our old friend Merrick stated in THIS POST that Arise Sir Loin was only given away at their final show.
Max Staples & the Paperclips - Not Working 7" (1981)
This was a band from Australia and this record is probably the only thing they ever put out.
I first heard about them in an old fanzine where they pretty much said that it sucked. I have a copy of that 'zine and I was going to post the review with this post but I can't find it. So, pretty much, I suck too.
I bought this record with the expectation that I will hate it. I don't.
I'm not sure that I like it, but I certainly don't hate it.
Here's one of the worst records ever heard by some guy who reviewed records in 1981.
A - Not Working
B - You Make Me Cry
The Gangsters [Australia] - Mood to be Rude 7" (198?)
This is upsetting. I have only ever seen one copy of this. I sold it to somebody and they returned it because it arrived in several jagged pieces. As rare as it was, there is now one less copy than before thanks to the US Postal Service.
Look at this. Can you believe this shit? On a few occasions I have received records in this condition and somehow it's always the really rare stuff.
INSYTE - Squat 7" (1990)
INSYTE was a tenuously political band from Australia. I thinks Squat is the B-side. It's an enjoyable song if you're in the mood to be pontificated to.
I included three other songs of theirs from a 1989 compilation tape called "Give them Love" that was posted on the defunct blog Terminal Escape.
A - Groove
B - Squat
*Liberation
*Capitalism in Decay
*Needless Kill
You can listen to "Squat" HERE.
6 Rude Boys Outta Jail
7 Montego Bay
8 On the Beat Pete
11 Gangsters
12 Uncle Sam
Backy Skank was an Australian band who went on to have a few releases of original material, but it looks as though they started out as a ska tribute band.
