mlk day

Martin Luther King, Jr is one of my favorite people ever. Not only did he make a stand for equality and voicing your dreams, but he gave us a day off of school and work. Any man that can make all three of those things happen is a hero in my books.

Seeing as my vacation days at work have reset themselves for the year (a beautiful beautiful thing) I decided to take the day off. What a great thing, to be able to pick and choose the days that you would like to sleep in and have fun. Kinda like a choose your own adventure book....I always loved those when I was younger. "You've come to a seething pit of venomous snakes. Would you like to
A. Turn back and find another way,
B. Tiptoe across the precariously placed teetering log, or
C. Take your chances and make a run for it!"
You know the type. Except your life is the adventure. Sweet.

So after an abrupt realization that I had a chiropractor appointment at 7 in the morning, we jumped out of bed, visited my friend the chiropractor, and then since we were up went to Kneaders for unlimited french toast. Now, this is not just any old french toast. We are talking thick slices of yummy cinnamon bread served with strawberries, cream, and warm syrup. They say it is unlimited, but really I can't ever eat more that what comes on the plate.

Later in the day we headed up AF Canyon for some sledding and hot chocolate. My favorite part of the afternoon was the coat Ally found in the closet. It was this unearthly color of red, and made her look like the little boy on A Christmas Story.

And also that my mom brought a pretty tablecloth to put out on the table while we drank our hot chocolate. She is quite amazing.

I feel so fortunate to live in such a wonderful country. I know that it has its shortcomings and that its citizens may not always be in harmony, but I hope we all try to make it a place of equality and opportunity for all. Afterall, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate can not drive out hate; only love can do that" -MLK Jr.

thankful

So many things to be thankful for today....

eleven o'clock church. peanut butter bars. sunday nap. waking up to dinner. call to england. family chats. missing good friends (the having good friends part, not the missing part). "pants"-ing will. happy brothers. ally home. lots of blankies. surprise snowball. not so successful boggle. surviving sunbeams. Ohhhh sunbeams. They crack me up. In sharing time half of them are crying because they are scared or sad or tired or who-knows-what. But in class they let go of their inhibitions. I guess we should feel lucky that they are comfortable with us?

One of my favorite moments:
Last week, lesson is "I Have a Body"

Tom: Do you guys have a body?
Girl: Oh yeah! I have a body....points to her bum....(body....booty....)
Boy: Me too! I have a booty!
Boy proceeds to get up on his chair and slap his "booty" in front of the class. All attempts to change their minds about their "booty" fail. I'm sure parents really appreciate us teaching their kids about their booties. I know I would.
