Saving fuel the maths way.
Assumption 1: Petrol usage is proportional to driving time and driving speed
The longer you drive, the more fuel you use. Duh?
The faster you drive, the more fuel you use. Duh too. Dunno how proportional though. [1]
Proportional when both are considered? Not so duh. Probably not but let's just assume they are.
Assumption 2: The proportionalities of time and speed are independent of each other.
Assumption 3: Total petrol usage is petrol usage from driving time + petrol usage from driving speed.
K those are some pretty bold assumptions but they make sense.
Total petrol (fuel) usage = Fu
Petrol usage from driving time = Fa
Petrol usage from driving speed = Fb
Fa α t, t = driving time
Fb α v, v = driving speed
Fa = kt
Fb = pv, k and p are constants.
Fu = Fa + Fb
Fu = kt + pv
Now we know distance, D = vt
so v = D/t
Fu = kt + pD/t
To find minimum fuel consumption, we differentiate
dFu/dt = d/dt (kt + pD/t) = k - pD/t²
At minimum, dFu/dt = 0, k - pD/t² = 0
k = pD/t²
t² = pD/k
t = √(pD/k) = √(pDk)/k
v = D/t = D/√(pD/k)
v = √(pkD)/p
So, to save as much fuel as you can, drive with speed √(pkD)/p. The journey will take √(pDk)/k. Constants p and k can be found through expensive experiments. If anyone finds them for Honda City, tell me.

Sorry for not updating since.. let's leave it at since.
Very good reason (sorta) why I don't update:
1. I have a lot of stuff to do, uni applications, studies, etc.
2. I haven't been doing much of that aforementioned lot-of-stuff.
3. If I were to do something like blog it'd be time-consuming and I'd feel really guilty as I really should do said lot-of-stuff.
4. Therefore I don't blog till I'm totally free.
5. Somehow this guilt doesn't extend to piano, surfing (even hours), youtubing, lepaking, yamchaing, sleeping, manga-ing, euphoria-ing :D, frisbee-ing.
Will proooobably update within the month.

Climbing Kinabalu
From the 23rd to 25th, June '08, I was in Sabah with Guan Huan to climb Mt. Kinabalu. Damn gay right.
23rd, Monday
Fell asleep at 1am, woke up at 3am to pack my bag -_-" Had to make sure it was as light as possible, didn't want to lug any unnecessary crap up the mountain. It was 7.5kg in the end.
Hehheh, I recently bought at ipod and had the full intention of using it the whole trip. Also bought a pair of trail shoes since the only shoes I had were canvas ones and climbing with those is just Dumb.
Flight was.. okay. Airasia seatings are really cramped! We pre-ordered 1901 hotdogs for the flight but were still hungry after that. Ordered a nasi lemak each. Now if I had seen THIS POST abiiiiiit sooner, we wouldn't have ordered it. After arrival, we took a cab to some crappy bus terminal, then a bus to a cabin near the foot of Mt. Kinabalu.
The cabin was fantastic! Kinabalu Rose Cabin, wooden, really cosy, clean and budget-friendly (RM 80 per room). It was also as cold as genting XD
We had a fantastic view of the mountains from our window.
The water heater was interesting though, fire-powered, pretty cool XD twiddle some knobs and fire appears in the heater thing. Here's a vid of us working this amazing piece of technology.
Had dinner then went to bed around 9pm.
Woke up at 6, took another shower then went down for breakfast.. the friendly innkeepers made us a nice "English Breakfast" for 8 bucks each.
Took an RM5 cab to the Kinabalu Park, where we registered ourselves, got climbing permits (RM 12) and hired a guide (RM70 total).
Started to climb at 8.30am with our guide, Lanting.

There were rest stops every few hundred vertical metres, toilets and dodgy water sources too! At the start I was panting every step (so many 'natural' stairs omg!), but after about an hour I practically ran up the mountain! Dunno why suddenly energetic, ran for 3 hours! Lol the opposite for guan huan, he got more tired as we climbed..
The trail shoes I bought are great! Great grip and all lol.
As we were going up, we saw the workers there carrying sacks of supplies up the mountain! 30kg sacks of rice/food/cloth/wood/etc. Crazy! They're all short though, with some titanium leg muscles.

View from half-way up.After 4 hours (normally people take 5-6! supermen ROAR!), we reached the midpoint, where we had booked a lodge for the night. We checked in at Laban Rata, the reception lodge, where there was a restaurant of sorts. EXPENSIVE! Even trusty-cheap RM1.00 tiger biscuits are 4 bucks! Beer for 20 a can wtf. Well it's actually paying for the crazy hard transport method. They had dinner and breakfast buffets, some ala carte stuff, pretty nice albeit costly. Good thing we brought our own canned food and instant noodles.
After checking-in, we climbed another ten minutes to our dorm, Gunting Lagadan.
It's actually a dorm, with shared showers, toilets, kitchen and dining area. We got there so early, the previous day's tenants were like "Did you guys fly up here? : O"
Rooms were TINY! 2 double-decker beds in a 2m x 3m room. Super cramped. Our room had the two of us and a Canadian girl whose boyfriend was waiting at the base -_-"
It was pretty damn cold here! Wearing a jacket indoors.
The water heaters were only on from 2pm to 8pm, so i took a shower after arriving XD Guan Huan didn't though, lazy fella. Lol we were the only Malaysians, other than some indian adults also from KL
Cooked our canned curried chicken, sardines and maggi. Boiled lotsa water to fill bottles for the next day's climb.

Slept at 7pm, woke up at 2am to climb again. Had breakfast (lamb curry, baked beans, cup noodles.. ). We left most of our stuff in our dorms, so our bags were lighter this time.
It was still dark with only the moon as lighting.. torches are a must there. This time there everyone staying on the mountain climbed together, not like the previous day's small groups (our group was just guan huan, me and lanting), so it was kinda slow. No plants at all after the first hour! Only rocks and a rope to hang on to... a drop from that height = death -.-
Climbed forever.. steeper and steeper, colder and colder, gloves are a must or you'll chafe/freeze your hands off lol. Ropes and all. Energy bars rawrrr!!! Climbed for 3+ hours, reached the peak before sunrise..
Hugh Low was led up in dunnowhen, so the peak's named after him... Low's Peak, ironic for something 4095m above sea level.
It was the most beautiful scene I'd ever seen! Zomg way above the clouds, too high up to see anything way below on the surface. Freezing winds chilled my balls off. We were among the first 20+ people to reach the peak (daily climber limit for whole mountain = 146). Tiny peak was so crowded lol! Plus it was so cold... Zero degrees! There were ropes to stop us from falling off the other side, which was just a vertical drop to hell =_=" Instant painless death if you fell from there.

Lanting said that even the really fast people take 3-4 hours XDXD When we reached the base, he was telling random friends that we only took 2 lol. Having said that, when alone he can make it up in 2 hours (normal people 5-6) and down in 1 1/2 so yeaaaah.
Reached the base at 11am, had some ice-cream, took a bus down to Kota Kinabalu and.. went to a cybercafe, arcade, pool arenas and restaurants until 7pm. Flight delayed from 8.50 to 9.50 to 10.20 grrr. Took a bus back from LCCT to central, reached home at 2+, showered, slept, ached.
All in all, a fantastic trip, worth the effort and money spent. You guys should go if you get the chance, the view up there makes all the ache and pain worthwhile. Legs hurt like sin now lol.

Linerider.
Okay, there's this Java game thing called Linerider, it's essentially a drawing + physics toy. What you do is draw lines on the drawing board, then press "Play". A tiny guy on a tiny sled will drop onto the starting point and will sled along the lines according to gravity... give it a fiddle, it's kinda fun XD but REALLY hard, falls off a lot.

Randall Munroe, the genius who writes xkcd, my favorite webcomic, started 4 sites some time ago: thefairest, thecutest, thefunniest and bestthing (click words to go to the site!). Long post. Long time no update. So there.
Today.. I'm eighteen! Eighteen years and nothing involving juvenile court yet, good enough for me :D now it's the big leagues!
Back a day.
May 2nd
9-smth am, Kubhandren and Anirwan (classmates) said they would go for frisbee the next day.
11-smth am, Wei jian said he'd go for frisbee the next day as a birthday thingy.
1.45pm, Ying Xian (prom head in student council) smses, "Eh meet me at Starbucks, I gotta give back your receipt". I lost an RM 280 receipt 2 days before, damn annoyed about it. So.. woohooooo! MY RECEIPT!
2pm, college just ended. Goes to Starbucks.. no Ying Xian no receipt, so I call and she tells me "I'm quite far away right now.. about half an hour? "
"Hmmm nah keep it for me till Monday, I'm late. "
"NO I'LL LOSE IT!!!! "
"Keep it lah. "
So I'm about take a cab/bus.. Sridhar comes running and he tells me she's at Starbucks, so I go there. Again, no Ying Xian, no receipt! zomg, what trickery is this?!
Then the whole prom com comes with a cake and all, from a far away Secret Recipe, didn't see that coming actually!
So I've got a lovely cake! Except that the top half slid off the bottom and got kinda smushed. And there was no receipt, NOOOOO!!! XD
The more we tried to fix it the more smushed it got, so... yeah. Eventually it turned into a little pile of was-cake, tasted pretty fine though lol. Expectedly we were all caking each other with the cream and stuff XD Fun fun, pics later.
Thanks lots, to Ying Xian, Theng Seng, Sridhar, Kubhandren, Izzat, Raevin, Harinder, Farah, Jia Wei and Ian! That was a really... interesting cake XD I appreciate it more than it seems, so yeaaaah, thanks! :D

Second, I get it all on film! What my dear Nakama™ went through, all the way from the LRT station to my house, set-up and all... Plus the cameras followed my reaction from my bathroom to the balcony beautifully :)
Third, I get to spend the day with all my fwends :D

Some heat mebbe, but s'okaylah. Played truth or dare (lol), some weird number games and word games, tossed frisbees around and sprayed people for no reason. Funness XD

Alrighty,
Passed the written application,
Passed the interview.
Only the campaign left; it's down to 5 people vying for 3 seats (president and 2 vice presidents)
Monday to Friday this week, 18th till 22nd Feb, I'm gonna be campaigning at Taylor's for presidency of the Cambridge A-Levels Student Council.

Random Update
Okay, my speakers have this volume-control-dial-thingy that's attached to it via a long wire-thingy, nice vocab I know, and it keeps freaking slipping outta the back of my compuer table... there's this dumbass gap. Really annoying, cause it's hard to put it back.
Speaker base on left, dial thingy there, mouse on the right.
Wire-thingy.
So, since I'm soooo free after those stupid uni appls,

- the holes have special pieces so it doesn't scratch the wiring
- rectangle with no pieces overlapping, as in, no vertical lines more than one piece high, so it's stronger
