Reid's halfway there

Reid is already 6 months! He is doing so well and is such a good baby. His laughs are so contagious and his smile is so sweet. He is almost sitting up by himself and loves putting anything and everything in his mouth (except a pacifier...). He has started reaching for you when you go to pick him up. I don't know why I love it when babies start doing that, it is just so sweet. Reid isn't crawling just yet, but he can sure get around on the floor. Today I actually saw him try to push up on his knees! He still has that adorable toothless smile, though I know it's only a matter of time before that first tooth pops through. I am enjoying watching the relationship between Cade and Reid flourish. They make each other so happy and Cade is always watching out for his "brober".

My "Mr. Blue Eyes"

Cade's tube surgery

Cade had the tube put in his ear on Friday. The doctor was running late so he didn't go in for surgery until 11am! That's a long morning for a two year old who hasn't had anything to eat or drink. He had a few fits, but overall did awesome. After surgery the doctor came out and said all went really well. He got a lot of thick fluid out of the ear and said he should be hearing about 60% better!!!! That is a lot for a kid with one ear! After surgery the nurse went over discharge instructions with me and said that Cade will likely be sleepy and unsteady for the rest of the day and that I should encourage quiet indoor play. No one told that to Cade and by the time we left you never would have guessed that he got out of surgery 30 minutes prior!! There is no stopping my little ball of energy! Matt and I have been testing Cade's hearing out and we really do see a difference. We are know hoping that this will be the last tube for Mr. Cade. Third time's a charm, right?

This is a picture of Cade while waiting for surgery. We wait in a little room that is divided into 4 waiting rooms. I thought it was a little funny that for all 3 of Cade's surgery's here we have been in the waiting area!!

ear and kidney update

I realized today that I hadn't posted the results to Cade's kidney testing. My appointment with the doctor was a bit frustrating and confusing, but I think he no longer has hydronephrosis. I say I think because the doctor was a bit scatterbrained that day. Once he finally had the results of the test in front of him he started just going off and between his thick Asian accent and the big medical words, I didn't quite catch it all. I asked if he still had hydronephrosis and still didn't get a yes or no answer. I asked several other questions and by putting all the info together, I think he has a normal functioning kidney....I think... The doctor forwarded the results to the pediatrician, so I am hoping to get better answers there.

We went to the ear, nose and throat doctor today for a check-up. Cade first had a hearing test done that he failed pretty bad. (I guess he has an excuse for not responding to me when I call :) ) The doctor looked in his ear and said there was fluid behind the ear drum, it's not infected but it is effecting his hearing. He's already had 2 ear infections since this last tube started to come out, too. So, Cade is having a tube put in his ear on Friday. The doctor is going to put a different tube in this time that should stay in the ear 18 months!!! (the others are supposed to last 9 months) Hopefully his hearing will improve soon with the new tube.

family fun

Matt's half brother and sister-in-law came in town this weekend to visit. We had a great time hanging out. We hadn't seen them since Christmas, so it was good to catch up. We hung out at the house quite a bit and I didn't think to take pictures (gasp! I know...so unlike me!). On Saturday Matt, Warren and the kids went outside to play a little touch football in the street. I am glad I got my camera this time because these are the only pictures I have of the weekend.

Reid didn't want to miss out on the action!

I caught Cade as he ran by
Cade had a wonderful time with his cousins, Zachary and Avery. He thought Aunt Angela and "Uncle" Warren were pretty cool, too. Cade has been asking where they are all day. :( We are looking forward to our next visit!

fellow olympians

I have really enjoyed watching the Olympics the last few days. The swimming has been my favorite so far. What a performance by the mens relay team last night. However, I have been quite puzzled. Before almost every swim event the swimmers all put a little bit of pool water in their mouth and spit it back out???? What is that all about??? It's gross.

I've got the mens gymnastics on pause........gotta go watch!

the protest

Cade didn't go down well for his nap today. I did our normal routine and he was just not ready for bed I guess. I left the room and he continued to cry. Reid was ready to eat so I went to the other room and proceeded to feed him. Cade didn't stop crying the entire time and at one point said, "mommy....mess". That is never a good sign. I finished feeding Reid and put him down for his nap. I rounded the corner to Cade's room to find this mess....

and Cade like this....

my little ham

So I love those pictures with babies laying on their backs chewing on their toes. I had tried so hard to get one with Cade and never had any luck. Today I thought I would try the same with Reid. I got everything set up and took his diaper off in hopes that he would be nice and not wet all over (he was a very good boy!). I started taking pictures and all he wanted to do is roll over and lay on his stomach. He then figured out that he could chew on the black sheet. I tried and tried to get him to hold on to his toes with no luck. He finally started crying and our photo shoot was done. I put my camera away only to look over to him chewing on his toes! Maybe next time I will get it, but for now here are a cute shots from today!

What a game!

Matt and I had plans to go out with our friends, the Brewers, this past Saturday night. A few hours before we were supposed to meet, my dad called and said he forgot that he still had tickets from work that no one was using!!! We had been wanting to go to the game with the Brewers and it just worked out! My parents kept the boys (thanks....I know it wasn't easy that night) and off we went. Cade knew what was up and was pretty mad that we went to the game without him. My mom said they watched the game and he kept pointing to the TV and saying "daddy"! Oh well, what he doesn't know is that Matt and I are taking just him to the game at the end of the month. We had a great time at the game. However, this happened to be the day that Reid decided to start rejecting the bottle. Again, sorry mom. If anyone has any ideas how to get over this, please share. Matt tried to give him a bottle again last night and he is still refusing it. Back to the game, it was awesome. We won in the bottom of the 10th! I love exciting games!

highlights of the last few days

It's been a few days since I've posted so here are a few highlights.....

I got Cade's haircut for his 2 yr pictures. In the past Cade has not done too well getting his haircut. If you don't recall, check this out. Well, he's doing MUCH better. He is sitting there on his own free will! You may not think this is a big deal, but did you see that past picture???

This is what happens when you leave a pacifier out when there is a dog around....
Saturday we watched TJ (while my parents went to a wedding) and Zach (while Tosha and Bobby went for a walk-through on their new house). Matt pulled out the little pool and Cade and Zach had a blast playing. They only played for a few minutes so we decided to test out the absorbency of their diapers instead of putting on their swim diapers and swim suits!!!
Cade is jumping up in the air and then sitting. Zach wasn't thrilled about Cade splashing him.
Zach was much more interested in the water hose. It was really funny when he would splash himself in the face!!!

We went to story time at the library yesterday. First off, we were running late and very lucky to have gotten in. There are 3 story times and only 25 kids are allowed in each one. We always go to the 9:30 story time, but if we were to miss it we would have to wait until 10:30. When I pull into the library parking lot I all of the sudden become this crazy woman. I knew we were running late and was just envisioning the fit that Cade would throw if we didn't get a ticket. I saw a lady in the back of the parking lot and knew I had to hurry. She couldn't get the last ticket in front of me! I unloaded the stroller and both kids faster than you could blink. I didn't even get Cade's shoes on him. I picked him up and off we ran. I then see another woman heading for the door with her kids. I then walked faster than I thought I could. (If you are picturing this I am sorry.) We ended up getting to the desk before the other two moms and we were ticket number 24!!!! Whew. It's good thing because it was monkey day AND they pulled out the parachute. When they pull out the parachute they sing wheels on the bus. It was a good story time day!!!

confession

I took Matt and the boys to Wal-Mart tonight to do a little grocery shopping for the week. First off, I do not like going grocery shopping on Sundays, everything is picked over and it's way too crowded. However, I was down to my last carton of milk for Cade with not much food to eat. Tomorrow we are busy and I saw that there was a tropical storm aimed for Houston this Tuesday, so I decided that I had no choice but to brave Wal-Mart. I wasn't too thrilled until I walked over near the school supplies. I don't know what it is about them, but I just want to buy school supplies. They are all so pretty. I especially fell in love with a really cute spiral!!! Really....do I need a spiral? I tried really hard to think of a reason to buy it, but just couldn't come up with a good one. The bins of glue, crayons and pencils called my name, too. I couldn't think of a good reason to buy any of that either. I was bummed. Today I was good, but the longer I think about that cute spiral the more I think that there has to be a reason to buy it. Am I the only weirdo that gets excited about school supplies???
