I know, I know, I'm a Bad Blogger
I have been so bogged down lately with school and children and all sorts of distractions lately, but I figured a picture post would suffice. School is going well, mostly due to the fact that I have chosen to have a good year. I started out doing a weeks lesson on respect and it has paid off. I am trying to have a better relationship with each student by opening up more and learning about them. Before I was closed off. All it takes is asking a question or giving them a compliment. In return, I see alot more smiley faces in the hallway and students saying, "Hi Mrs. Lara" or "You look nice today." I am a patient person, except when I have to repeat myself more than twice, or twenty times. haha But I am trying to hold my tongue and do what is best for the student. Everything came so easy to me in school, so when a student doesn't understand automatically I sometimes get frustrated. Anyways, on to life. Brody turns two at the end of the month...I am debating over Mickey Mouse or Pirate theme. I better choose fast. Cooper just turned three months and is probably about 10 1/2 pounds. He is already wearing some six month clothes. He is smiling alot now, so I think I am going to have two happy boys. Cooper is still on his apnea monitor, but I take it off of him for a couple of hours here and there. We had a scorpion infestation not too long ago, but spraying helped and we haven't seen anymore. This week our hot water heater leaked and soaked the new carpet in our closet. It stinks. Bad. So Tim is going to lay some leftover wood the previous owners left this weekend. I could go on and on but I need to get some things done. Just thought I would post before my mom starts asking when I am going to post. lol

Cooper's Birthday
On May 18th, I went to my regular doctor at 12:00 and my blood pressure was high, so she sent me over to the high risk doctor for monitoring. After being monitored and having a sono, I was told that I had to stop working. Since there was a week and a half left of school, I decided that would be for the best and went to work the next day to tie up a few last things. We met Tanya in Eunice and she kept Brody a few days so that I could really rest and keep my blood pressure normal. On May 25th, I had an appointment with the high risk doctor again and Tim went with me. I felt fine and the baby was doing well, but it was taking forever for the doctor to come back into the room. Finally, three hours after the appointment started, the doctor told me that I was going to be admitted for a 24 hour urine analysis, since my protein was measuring 1+. I had already done one of these at home a couple of weeks prior and those results were 290 (300 + is when they worry). So, day 1 showed a level of 1200. Second day showed 2100. Baby still looked fine on sonogram, but to save my kidneys any further damage, the high risk doctor said we'd have to induce labor that night. So, the kind nurse let me take a quick shower and eat the chicken strips Tim had just brought me. Here's my last prego pick. I figured it would be a long labor so I didn't bother fixing myself up....by the way, the antepartum rooms are much nicer than the postpartum rooms...and the nurses are better in antepartum...I am swollen here, but not near the extent I was with Brody....my bp was low and I didn't even feel bad...
At about 10:30 on Thursday night I was in labor and delivery. My mom arrived just after I had been poked five times for an IV. Tim was laughing at me because I was crying when the nurse was inserting the IV. She kept saying, "Your vein is rolling around, " and poked the needle around on my forearm for about five minutes. The bruise she left is still on my arm and is about four inches long and and inch wide. Needless to say, another nurse had to come and try and finally got me set up. Inserting the IV hurt worse than the labor.
At about 11:30 another nurse finally came in and inserted the pill that softens your cervix. My memory is somewhat foggy, but she said that they usually insert two, but with my bp being slightly elevated they wouldn't insert another because it overstimulates the uterus. I started contracting on my own, so they left me alone. All the while, the baby kept getting away from the heart monitor and then he was asleep and wouldn't become active, so they couldn't give me pitocin. She came and put the oxygen max on me to see if the baby would perk up. I was having trouble breathing and my chest was hurting, as it had been since the day before. I was worried because when I go to the rheumatologist they always ask if I have chest pain so I started thinking something was wrong. Anyhow, they said it was probably heartburn, but it didn't feel like any heartburn I 'd ever had, but I took the Maalox they gave me. Someone came and listened to my heart to see if it was okay and they said it sounded fine. They decided to give me Demerol, thinking that might relax me enough since I was so uncomfortable. That is some good stuff....LOL At this point, I had many drugs running through my IV, including Penicillin (since I was never tested at my doctors office), Magnesium (for bp), Demerol, and Phenergen?(to counteract the Demerols effects)....all with a catheter, a blood pressure cuff, and two monitors strapped to my belly. I slept for a few hours with the Demerol and when they finally came in to check me it was after seven a.m., because it was a new nurse. I was at a three, so they gave me an epidural and I slept a little longer. When I woke up I was feeling pain...probably because he failed to remind me I could push the button for relief. So anyhow, I felt that he was coming down, so she checked me, and sure enough I was a nine. They called the doctor and he arrived shortly. The best part of the entire situation was this: when I got pregnant I switched from Dr. Raja (male) to Dr. McQuillan (female). She was out of town the entire week, so guess who was in charge of me all week and for delivery? Yep, Dr. Raja....it's funny how things work, but I guess things happen for reasons. He is a very good doctor, but I never saw him with my first pregnancy. He does lipo and stuff like that now too, so he has way too many patients. Good thing he didn't question me about why I changed doctors...lol
Back to the birth....I had to push a few more times this time around because his face was up instead of down. The doctor turned his head and pulled him out. He had a full head of black hair...I remember Tim and my mom saying, "He's so little!" He was holding onto his umbilical cord. He had an apgar score of 8 and then 9. I actually got to hold Cooper and they weren't in such a rush this time around. He was born at 11:11 on May 28th.
I had to stay on the Magnesium for another twelve hours, so I couldn't get up to go see him until the next day. My bp had only been high once during labor and was normal the rest of my stay. Tim went to rope in Andrews on Saturday (dont worry, I let him.....plus, I felt fine) and he won first place, winning a new Bob Berg belt buckle and some cash. He has not won anything in about a year, so he was super excited. I got to go home on Sunday afternoon, so we came home to get some things and then went and stayed with Tims sister for a couple of days in Odessa. My mom kept Brody, but then we picked him up and he was getting ancy over there, so we decided we'd come back to Wink and drive over to see the baby in the NICU once a day. My mom took Brody again for a few days..poor baby is probably wondering what's going on.
As for his condition, Cooper was born at 34 weeks 1 day. He did not have to have any assistance breathing. He had some jaundice, so he had the bili light on him for a few days. He went to nipple feeds with a bottle after 4 days in the NICU and he's eating like a champ. Tonight we fed him and he drank 40 ccs in ten minutes. (His minimum is 30 in thirty minutes). He failed his pneumogram, which is where they are hooked up to a machine for 12 hours. It tells you if there are any apnea spells. He had four episodes, so they are giving him cafficet and prevacid and will be repeating the test on Thursday. This will determine if he goes home on an apnea monitor or not......I hope he passes.
Well, its wayyyyyyy past my bedtime, so I will call it a night and leave you with some pics of our newest addition.
I have a dysfunctional computer so I may have to upload pics tomorrow...

Baby news
Well, we are in the home stretch....
I went to the doctor on Monday and baby was measuring accurately using the fundal height. I did have some protein in my urine (although for me that is usually normal), so she and I decided I would do a 24 hour urine collection over the weekend through the Winkler County Hospital.
Yesterday Tim and I went to the high risk doctor and he did a sonogram. The baby looks good and healthy, but is measuring a week larger based on the first sono. (He is about 3 lb 15 oz) The technician said that the last two times she measured that the dates I have match what she got, so I think we are good there. The doctor also said I had more amniotic fluid than usual and to lay off the sweets from now on....what....no more chocolate ice cream covered in milk before I go to bed???
My blood pressure was like 140/93, so they took multiple readings and he said that I really shouldnt be working and that I need to cut back on work. So, he advised I go home right after school everyday and lay down for the rest of the day. I have to go back on Wednesday and he wants to see me once a week. I was also told to "bring a bag" just in case. On the way out he told me I couldn't go anywhere this weekend, so I guess I will be watching movies all weekend. My blood pressure has been good, up until last week. Even so, it hasn't really been high high....my feet are not swollen, but my face has been on and off, probably because I have had allergies and itchy eyes. It is probably these kids that are off the wall that are making me insane.....only three more weeks..only three more weeks...I do have everything ready for a sub just in case.
In other news, last night Tim smelled something burning in the living room and then we heard a pop! Our air conditioner quit working, so we slept with the fan on and the smell of burnt tires. The fan always leaves all of us stuffy and with a runny nose. Tim works with an electrician so he went by the house this morning and they figured out the problem. Hopefully it starts working correctly....yesterday it was over 100 degrees, but this weekend is suppose to be in the 70's.
So it looks like Cooper will be here before we know it....if I can make it to the point where he is at least five pounds, maybe we can avoid the NICU. I already have the carseat out with a baby doll in it. Everytime Brody looks at it I say, "Don't touch the baby!" and he walks away. :)
And I am having issues with my camera...I bought a new one but it doesnt want to upload pictures to my computer, so I have to take the card out of my new one, insert it in my old one (which I can't see the screen on) and upload from it. So, maybe I will be brave enough to post a pic soon.
