Nield Family Christmas Party

The Nield Family Christmas party. We had a good time together. We had tacos for dinner, then we played Christmas BINGO, including prizes!

The boys played a little basketball.

The kids played the traditional chimes. The adults played the Newlywed game, the first round Bryan and Tonya won but the second game Travis and I won! woot, woot!

Last but not least we acted out the nativity and sang a few Christmas songs.

Despite my parents not being there we had a good time.

We love you mom and dad and missed you, Merry Christmas!

Cork again

You can stop laughing any time. This is the extra bedroom; also known as storage and potato cellar.

Sorry, I have no idea how to rotate these. So place your computer on it's side. Entry hall and beauty parlor. Illegal to have "power points" in bathrooms so I plug my curling iron in by the radiator. Dad gets the sink all to himself and this radiator is the warmest place in the flat in the mornings. Toilets are all low flush so takes three tries. Just glad Dave S. doesn't live here. All the plumbing pipes are on the outside of the buildings. Imagine if it ever really froze.

Hopefully, a picture of the sitting room appears below. And it only costs C750 ($1050) for all the opulence of this 600 square feet.

This is not the order I loaded these. Bedroom below. No, that is not a king size bed or a queen size bed but it isn't a single either. You have to look for the silver lining.

That is the total fridge/freezer. All leftovers are chucked. I'm getting pretty good at cooking for two. No Sunday evening grazing.

Kitchen is really not too bad. Notice the washer/dryer combo. Electricity is half price from 23:00 to 8:00 so we turn on the machine at 11:00 and take out in the morning. Then we drape it all over since it is never dry. We had to look in several stores to find stuff to stock the cupboards. I almost did somersaults when I found measuring cups. Recipes here are in grams so everything is weighed.
The blue thing hanging on the wall is my second somersault find of an apron. Just try doing everything in church clothes. Ugh.
Sitting room below. Like the 70's colors? At least it is color! (Now that picture disappeared)

Apartment complex. We are top left. Four flats in our building. Ten to twelve buildings in this "estate".

News from the MTC

So I talked to mom last night and she said that the MTC is good but it still doesn't seem real since they are just staying at grandma's house when they get done each day. She came to the conclusion that whoever decided on the schedule for the senior missionaries must be someone young because they get there at in the morning with the other 80 senior missionaries and then they split into classes and have a break for lunch until about 3:30 when they all meet together again at which time they have a discussion and then they turn out the lights and watch a movie, she says that within minutes you can hear the snores of those around you and can just look around and see pretty much everyone (including dad) nodding off. Then they head home for the day. At which time dad won't let her watch TV even though they never said that they couldn't, she just wanted to watch the news. : ) She also said that she thought that it would be weird wearing the name tag around but she says it is kind of cool because when they go to stores and things (at least in Utah) everyone is super friendly, and at one store they could hear a little girl say to her mom "Look mom, it's the missionaries!!!". So that is the news from Brother and Sister Nield four days in.

Congratulations mom and dad!

Congratulations mom and dad!

Pictures from the weekend:
It was nice to be able to go to the temple to do sealings together, we just wished that Eric and Nancy lived closer so they could be there with us, but we know that you were there in heart : ) That night the adults got together for dinner and the men gave a blessing to mom and dad. It was such a neat experience to have!

Then on Sunday mom and dad gave some great talks in church, mom spoke about learning from the past and dad spoke on temple blessings. Afterwards everyone had lunch at mom and dad's house. Doing all of this made it so real, and while I will miss them terribly while they are gone I am grateful for the example that they are setting for us and our children. And I am sure that the rest of you feel the same way.

We will miss you mom and dad!

Just a Little Tidbit from the Hillsboro Nield's Dinner Table

(I left this on facebook, but it made us laugh so hard milk came out our noses...I had engrave it here for posterity)

Mom to Michael after he dissed Ryan's video game car:
"Michael, say something nice"
Michael to Ryan: "You have nice feet"
Mom: "He does have nice feet"
Zach: "Do I have nice feet?"
Mom: "Well, yes, but they're getting a little pointy..."
(Zach pulls his bare foot out from under that table to examine it)
Michael to mom: "Do I have nice feet?"
Mom: "I try not to look at your feet."
Michael (as brothers get a good snicker out of that): "Why not?!"
Mom: "Well, after about age 10 it just goes downhill from there"
Zach to Michael: "Besides! Your toes have back hair!"
