Koko Doll!

I've been checking out Warm Sugar for a while and I love, Love, LOVE her work. Alas, I am too poor to buy it. So I made my own- well, Beatrice's own.

This is Koko:

Beatrice loves her and so do I.

Etsy Dresses!

These are some that I think I would actually wear. Sometimes you see something nice, but you know it would just hang in your closet. Of course, they are too expensive for my budget...

A Winter Coat

I made this for my big girl. It was so much fun, but kinda frustrating too. I love these colors together! The blue is from a bag of scraps from Mama, the red is from some pants I wore during my college days, the lining is a dress Beatrice outgrew.

There are three snaps and it's open the rest of the way down. Only the bodice is lined. The sleeves were lined, but I took that out this morning because it was too bulky and, come on- this is South Carolina not Wisconsin. I like that the collar has a bit of puffy frill to it. It seems comfy. This is just slightly big on her now because it will be a few months yet before she wears it.

Abandoning Ship

So I told you yesterday that I would share this with you. It's the block that didn't work. "Evolution of a Face." It started to almost look okay, then everything went downhill... Here it is from the beginning:

Yikes. That mouth is just not right!

I made slight variations for the next hour or so...
I thought I was getting somewhere, but no...

So that is how I spent all of my free time yesterday. I still think the design is good, but just not for a block print... We'll see.

Told You I'd Tell You!...

...that I've updated my etsy shop. Now, it's just a start- but I'm so happy to have these items listed!

There are more to come (as you might have guessed from the posts about geisha stamps and stuff).

I have some pictures to show you tomorrow about the ordeal I went through today with a stamp I was carving. I like to call it "Evolution of a Face" and you'll see why. I would show you now, but I'm still too frustrated...

Block Printing

I've been interested in geisha lately and I checked out some library books on the subject. Then I started drawing them. Now I've moved on to block printing...

In that last picture, you can see some of the moleskine style journals I made. They are so sweet! I put just 32 pages in each one so you fill it in a month. I want to use them for a full year (each one with a unique cover) and have them bound together with twine looking lovely and also holding so much meaning.

They will be in my etsy shop soon. By the way, look for some serious updates in my shop in the next few weeks. Or don't, as I'm sure to wag it in your face anyway.   :-)

Date Night and MUSIC!

James and I went out on a date the other night while Isobel watched Beatrice. It was so nice to get out for awhile! We went for a steak dinner and while we waited (despite having called ahead!), someone gave us a great coupon that rendered one entree free! Yay for nice people! (It's also encouraging to know that James and I are in fact approachable.)

After dinner, James took me to a record store and I found the Sally Seltmann CD I've been craving ever since I heard her interviewed on World Cafe. (You can listen to the interview here.) And to make the evening even better it was a promotional release of her new album and cost just a fraction of the usual price! Woohoo!

I really love her sweet pop songs and her lovely voice! When I heard her talking on the radio, I thought she sounded just like Claire from Lost. Anyway, here are some pictures of Sally:

Wow- Fall Couture!

We checked out Christian Dior's Fall Couture Preview last night. Oh, my! Have you seen these pieces? Here are a few:

I found a close up of the shoes to show you because they are so.... What is it they say on Project Runway? "Odd."

I love these crazy looks. I think the little pink and orange number is perfect. And the purple with red gloves? Yes, I did wear a purple coat with red gloves last winter, you know. Love that combination!

I would love to have a front row seat at a show like this one. I don't think they'd let me in, though. Because this is what I look like:

James Needed A Haircut

And I really didn't want to do it... But he kept bugging me, so I went in search of inspiration. This is what I found:

And this is what I did:

Here is what it looked like before, sorta:
(I didn't think to take a "before" picture.) He's happy with it though and I like it too.
