What were we doing 14 years ago?

While reading the newspaper last weekend, I came upon an advertisement for the Springville Folkfest- a dance festival featuring groups from all over the world. We decided to go for family home evening. We had a great time, and saw lots of good dancers.
Some dancers from Poland,
Native American hoop dancers,
and Scottish step dancers.
It was a gorgeous night-
But the best thing about the evening was reliving old memories. 14 years ago, the dance festival was one of our first dates. I think it was the first time we held hands. Tim thinks it was the first time we kissed. Whatever. We sure never thought that we'd be back, 14 years later, with our
6 kids!

Back then, we thought life was pretty great. But it's even better now.

Catching up...

I really, really shouldn't wait this long between posts. Maybe I was subconsciously trying to wait until we get our own computer back. That may still be a week or two, though, so I'd better not wait. This will be a hodge-podge of pictures, because I haven't posted any since we moved out of our Porto Martins house.

Saying goodbye to Carla- this was a sad, sad day in my life- no more housekeeper!
One last trip to the ocean before we leave- and three cute brothers.
Our kitchen in the TLF. It wasn't horrible, but we were definitely ready to be gone.
Watching t.v. at the TLF- one of the few things to do in the room that wouldn't drive Mom absolutely crazy. Don't worry- we did leave the room as often as possible.
Our first picture back in the States! This is outside the Bean Museum at BYU. Despite the abundance of cool photo opportunities INSIDE the museum, I managed to not take any until we were standing OUTSIDE the museum, in front of a boring brick wall. Oh well.

The Lindon Fire Department had an open house for their new fire station, so we went and had a tour. Rebekah is not excited about posing. Maybe I take too many pictures.

While cleaning out the toy cupboard at Mom and Dad's, we discovered about 800 crayons. Most of them were not very used. Instead of just putting them back into the cupboard to be periodically distributed around the living room, we made a craft (amazing, I know!). I had the kids peel the wrappers off the crayons and break them into small pieces, and then we melted them in muffin tins. Look at all those wrappers! We did get them cleaned up before Grandma came home.

Here is the finished project. It kept the kids busy for a good couple of hours. Now they like to use the round crayons as building material.

On July 3rd, we went down to Provo for the "Colonial Village". It was pretty fun- a replica Mayflower, lots of gun/candle dipping/ basket weaving/ old toy exhibits, and people dressed in colonial-type clothing. The only problem with the whole thing was hot HOT it was! We didn't last too long before we left to eat lunch in the shade at a park.

Tim as Miles Standish. Isn't he cute?

July 3rd was also my birthday- this is the awesome coconut cake that Mom made for me. It had lemon filling and sour cream/coconut frosting. Very, very delicious.

The Fourth of July!

We insanely decided to get the kids up really early on the 4th and drive down to the balloon launching in Provo. Except for the early, groggy start, it was very fun. We got there just in time to see the last few balloons inflate, and stayed to see all the balloons take off. Afterwards, we stopped at Krispy Kreme for breakfast. Hot doughnuts.... mmmmm.

This was a desperate attempt to keep the kids busy on Sunday afternoon. They built a city in the driveway. These waffle blocks are pretty old- my little brothers got them for Christmas when I was a teenager. I think they were a good buy for my parents, since they are now being used by the grandkids!

On Saturday, July 5th, we met my friend Debie and her family at a park for lunch and reminiscing. We hadn't seen each other for about 14 years, so it was wonderful to catch up. This is the ONLY picture I took the whole time. Pathetic. It shows the kids trying to get a soccer ball out of a tree by throwing water bottles at it. It kept them occupied for a long time- and it wasn't even our ball!

That's probably enough pictures for now. It is not a very accurate record of the last two weeks, because I either forget to take my camera or forget to take pictures almost everywhere we go. Monday, we spent the day at Temple Square, went up the Church Office Building, visited the Planeterium and played in the Gateway Fountains, and I left my camera at home. Hopefully, I'll get back in the habit soon.
