Pemberton

In a majestic karri forest... Karris are a type of eucalypt trees that grow in a very limited area in Au (native only in the southwest of WA). We visited the Gloucester National Park, named after a former Governor-General of Au, a certain Duke of Gloucester. Near the entrance of the park, small flocks of colourful birds (rosellas and 28s) greet the visitors and eye them greedily for possible food items. That was a bag of chips well spent :)

In the same park it's possible to climb a 61-metre karri tree, the Gloucester Tree. I'm scared of heights, remember? Imagine climbing on top of a 20-st building with practically no sense of safety whatsoever because the rain makes everything too slippery and, apparently, locals don't think there should be a safety wire under you, only behind you! Because, you know, everyone is much more likely to let go and lean backwards than, say, slip feet first through between the bars! I so did not want to come down. Yes, there was THE view. But it was more the case of you-must-be-crazy-if-u-think-I'm-doing-that-again!. At this point I'd like to thank my loving and, perhaps more importantly, very patient guide who did his very best to conceal his chuckling at my insecurities and managed to get me down the tree as well, one hesitant step at a time. My knees were shaking for a long time after coming down, not trusting the unfamiliar flat ground, or maybe that's just his effect on women :P
