Rememberence Sunday

We started this blog for enjoyment, to remind ourselves and others how much fun living with a pack of dogs can be.

We stopped blogging actively when Boots was very ill early this year, and fully expected that by the end of the year we would have lost both Boots and Megan. How wrong could we be.

Loosing Meg was not a surprise, except maybe that it came years later than expected. The day after Meg left us, KuBrin pulled up short limping and hobbled home.

Two weeks later to the day, xrays showed us that there was no hope for him either, and we said goodbye. It was a terrible shock.

The day after KuBrin left us, Cleo stumbled and fell in the house. We though she'd just knocked her leg. The next three months, we saw her health decline rapidly, and after many vet visits the prognosis was not good. She rallied twice and gave us more good days than we could have hoped for.

As the clocks rolled back and an unseasonably early snowfall dusted the ground, we said our final farewells to Cleo as well.

It's not been a good year. Perhaps sometime we'll feel like blogging again, but right now we've not the heart for it.

Time for change

Please welcome Ducu Jamieson, who has come to make us laugh in this rather sad year.

He came as a foster and we decided to keep him, because he and Tealeaf get on like a house on fire, and he's good with the older dogs too.

Cat? What cat?

He's a real sweetie.

The days get a little darker...

...and the night skies get a little brighter.

Megan's beau, Finnegan, who was Angeerah's heart-hound, has left for the bridge (I think the urge to romp with Meggie and KuBrin was just too much).

Rest easy sweet prince, there are many people mourning your passing.

Some days can be unspeakable.

Today my 'hearthound' went to the bridge.

KuBrin had been sore for a few days, he had been limping and favouring his shoulder.
These are words that will strike a chill into any wolfie owner.

The x-ray showed that cancer had taken the top three inches of the bone,
and Kerri and I both knew that, for KuBrin there was only one heart shattering solution.

Goodnight my 'widdle boy'.

Brian.

Megan 1991 - 2008

Today is a heartbreaking day - Megan, who came to visit on 30th November 2002,
and decided that she quite liked the sausages has taken her final steps to the
bridge.

You might remember that over a year ago she started having epileptic fits - bad
enough in any dog, but for a 15 yr old deerhound, it can only be described as
'surprising'.

Meg will leave more than a few broken hearts - those who knew and followed her
antics here on the Dogs Blogs, and also her 'Flickr' friends.

Have a smile at some of the stories and memories she has shared with you and raise a
glass of something quite special to a dog who was quite special.

Meggie Moo, you are beyond words sweetheart.

Let me introduce you to my foster sister

Erin:

Not ONLY is she my foster sister, she is also my half sister, though at 10 she is a mere pup.

Do you think she looks like me? (ok she is a little taller.)

I have taught her every trick I know.... and she is turning out to be a champion sofa-surfer.

but no matter how I try she just will NOT cross bridges unaided.

though like all good deerhounds (we are royalty you know) she calls a knight in shining armour..

We are sisters... we can share

(though I'm a little concerned about that red top coat - do you think our mum has a thing for red setters?)

An eventfull few weeks

Ok, I know that we have been a bit remiss recently over keeping internet land fully up-to-date with all of our happenings, but believe me, there are some things that are better left unsaid...

Suffice it to say - my proctologist will not be doing THAT again for a while. I'm filled in one of those little feedback forms saying that he should warm his hands before he comes anywhere NEAR me again.

The Magician's Nephew - erm - Assistant

So there's me minding my own business, and TDF reads a book about magic tricks...

"Oh QqqqqqqBbbbbbbbb, come here, sit", you all know the routine, I think I'm about to become the butt of some joke...

Now you see it....

Now you don't...

Ooh! That was quite good.

Yerrrk - I'm choking!!!

Get it out!!!

Thanks TDF, you saved my life with that Heimlich maneuver

Don't do that again.

Tuesday, 22 January 2008

Hang on a sec!

I think that Santa Claws bloke has got it all wrong.

Tealeaf (who is titchy) has a fandabyloso big dog toy reindeer-in-a-rope-ring....

And all I got was these teensy little puppy bone toy..

Do you think there has been a mix up??

Tuesday, 15 January 2008

Yup, still here

Meggie here. There I was - sleeping off my christmas turkey (as you can imagine it needed a LOT of sleeping off):

and look what turned up...

It's a yummy smelling package from Ernest all the way across the puddle.

There were Toys in it, but at my age I'm not really interested in such things

So I'll let the younger ones have those...

I ask you, what's the point of chasing when food is brought to you in bed???

Apparently though I have to share these yummy tasting Washington apple and thyme bisquits... bummer.

And the DogFather assures me he is only guarding my Alaskan smoked salmon from the other dogs, and he will not eat ANY of it.

More to follow...

So just what IS a new year ?

I'm trying to figure out quite what this "New Year" thing is all about.

The closest I can see is that DF and the Alpha Bitch run around the house in their dressing gowns and SILLY SLIPPERS all day, with (cough cough) "Orange Juice" in tall glasses.

It doesn't look much like Orange Juice to me.

I'm given to believe that you have to make "New Year's Resolutions", and then break them really really quickly.

So.

Here's our New Year Resolutions.

Me

"I am not going to run away from the hoover, I am a big brave dog."

Clee Pees

"I am not going to snatch when getting cheesy pills, or even hammy pills."

Bootsie

"I am not going to put my feet up on the furniture."

TeaLeaf

"I will let Alpha B cut my claws, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't hurt."

Meggie Moo

"I shall share the paella dish with the others when cleaning up (but they'll NEVER get the Steak Pie Dish, or the Apple Crumble Plate)."

So there you have it - the Tigh Gadhar New Year Resolutions - I don't think it will take too long to break them.

Happy New Year from everyone at Tigh Gadhar.
