Year End Rantings
Speaking of lao jiao, Zehan came back from Australia for his holidays (from Dec till Feb!! So damn long! But I ain`t complaining!) and trained with us. We even have Luke coming back for a session! It`s always good to see more old timers of the club coming back. In more ways than one.
As for NUS wushu....I always have this urge to go back but nowadays the time schedule did not allow so. Perhaps the last week of Dec.....That reminds me.. think I still have a few lesson more down at k*en c*lture....
Finally got the HR committee at ECO up and running but still feel very handicapped without a computer at home to do all my work. So currently depending on the rest of my HR team for the time being. This may seem like a very lame excuse. But I truly believe I can revamp HR for the better with my workstation at home...rather than rely on my company`s PC. I even have to practice stealth when checking my ECO email..this sucks.
Yeah!! Finally got to finish a small little mod on one of my torchlight!! (*yawn*) Nothing impressive but at least I did not burn out a $100 worth of electronics and LED like I did the other time!! I dun think I can take anymore of that either.... Now my Longbow LED is putting out close to 80 lumens instead of that wimpy 20.5!!! Just in time for my Ubin trip!! Oh yes... this time the termites are gonna get it from my handheld blowtorch......crispy......also gonna try out the WD40 spray can combo on them for more pyrotechnic fun and mayhem!!!!!
WAhAhAhHaHAHAh *super evil laughter*

November updates
Took a day off(a off which was in lieu since Christmas last yr!!! Yep! I`m a workaholic as much as a flashaholic! :P) on friday of the second week so that I can book into the MCC Ubin Chalet which I organised partly for a few frens and also a flashaholic meeting/torch testing gettaway. Had lotsa fun cycling around the island and went to some more remote and unknow parts of the island courtesy of Derrick and another "local" of the island. Saw a family of Wild boars trottling past and a super boar which literally flew across our path. Kinda wonder how they managed to muster enuf velocity and thrust to launch themselves. Quite an amazing piece of "Air-Pork"!
And yes, met "my best friend"-as quoted by Mark See. Bloody Termites. This is the third time that I was bitten by them. Everytime an agonising experience. But at least this time it let go after I stomp on it unlike the previous two which kept biting even though I pluck the body off. Trust me, you dunno how a bite feels like if you have not tried it. Go on....go step into a termite trail.... During my night walks I noticed that the island was actually infested with them!! You can even hear them gnawing off the dead wood and leaves... The sound is actually quite audible and disturbing! Anyway, after being bitten, I decided to call in some reinforcement. "Eh hello, can bring ur butane blow torch when u come............" The rest I need not elaborate...love it when they go POP! Was so impressed by it that I got one myself last weekend!!
Got a third day off on the third week. This time due to unfortunate circumstances. Had to attend my grandma`s wake. Got to go to the new NEA cremetorium in Mandai. Damn chio place siah.... Dunno how many billions of tax payer`s $$$$ are dumped into making this place. I think even the dead are happy to be cremeated here.
Very strenous week....especially for my parents. Had to move house and arrange funeral all in the same week. Never got much sleep and had to live on bare minimum for a week cos all our belongings were in boxes and we were not allowed to step into our new house or the old one. My entire family even had to go NUS SRC to bathe at the last day of the funeral! AND at the end of it all still had to deal with a see beh kuai lan, unprofessional and unethical Property agent.
Must say that my new place is not as bad as I thought. EVen though it`s slightly further from my work place, the travelling time is slightly shorter due to AYE. And there is much convenience when ur downstairs is quip wif NTUC, 7-11, hardware store and a clinic!! No post office, but I guess you gotta give and take. It`s not half bad for torch throw testing too. With a abandoned Hua yi Sec just opposite my block, it`s dark enuf at night for me to light it up from my bedroom window with my newly arrived Surefire M6 Guardian!!! YEAAHHH !!!!
As for this week, NOT nice at all. Started out on a stressful monday. Been fly kite by NUS ppl at work. Even more stress when I confirmed that I have been cheated of $300 in a internet purchase and there`s not a damn thing I can do about it. Nice.
On a nicer note, I just kanna a HELLO KITTYING from that stupid Cat!! Hahah... Was surprised to open up my mailbox to find a Hello Kitty post card staring in my face!! And it`s all the way from Japan! Thanx Cat!! Was so caught up in recent events that I forgot that you were planning to go Japan in Nov! No wonder ICQ abit more quiet recently. Heh

Time to workout
Over at NP`s side....attendance have not been good since the beginning of the NP holiday cos nowdays seems that everyone at NP is working a part time job. N even those that dun need the dough is being pulled in like some sorta trend! But still there`s fun to be had with the few more ons one coming to training. N with the recent return of Tommy, I couldn`t be more happy. At least I got more help in instructing the juniors. Not to mention that finally someone can actually instruct me!!! Haven been seriously trained by anyone since way back in Poly yr 3 which was yr 2001!!!! For Victor sir, seems like he`s serious about rebuilding NJD S`pore again. After about 2 decades he finally wants to chong chu jiang hu.... hopefully he succeeds. Then at least this art can get more recognition and hopefully the public can take us more seriously. More on this as things progress...
For the upcoming performance at Tampines, things are looking bad. with the members as demoralised as ever and "waiting for things to happen" atttude. And the ever boh chup and "must cover own ass" PE lecturer being very unsupportive of things, I might very well cancel this event. He`s just being the unreasonable jerk as before. But for me, this performance is not so much important anymore, so it`s more expendable and if things dun work out, I rather scrape the whole thing than let it become a repeated DISASTER that was the Cineleisure performance a few months back.
Life`s been a bit hectic nowdays that I dun even have time for myself no more. Even next week`s holidays might be drained for something else. But life is good when you are occupied so i should not be complaining.
Recently learnt how to "recycle" my torchlights on the forums. Now selling a large part of my collection of torchlights off to fund an expensive one. Seems like local flashlight enthusiast are lacking in integrity. Driving me n another one of my torch fren nuts. Unlike overseas ppl, when u help them, they appreciate it n sometimes even reward you wif a surprise! For local Singaporeans, when u go out of ur way to help them, they will surprise you by tuaing you and making you loose plenty of $$$$ and time!! Poor Kevin kanna this very badly....almost forcing him to quit this hobby. I`m not saying all locals are like that. But I think Singaporean should wake up their ideas abit. N pls be more humble over the forums. When you try to act like a know-it-all wizard, you simply look like a FOOL to us. Posting wrong info is bad enuf....but when u try to shout SIMPLE wrong info.....u win liao....
No wonder I dun feel he`s wrong when he said that he dun wanna meet anymore local flasholics. This might sound wrong but when u have been through the shit. U might echo the same.
n might even beat them up wif this:

Lux V burnout
Sad thing happened yesterday night. Finally waited for a full month for all my parts to arrive separately from US. After an of hrs of struggling trying to solder all the tiny components together(burnt my thumb in the process), the Mag Space Needle was a failure due to a amateur mistake. Shorted out my Luxeon V WX1T emitter and ruined my DownBoy 833 converter board. Expensive mistake. The disappointment is equally great. Never mind, it shall live again when I have enuf funds again... maybe next yr...
Will be moving to Depot Rd in a couple of months time. My place now is filled with boxes. Most of the stuff is packed liao....Wow din notice we got so much rubbish all hidden away. Gonna miss Teck Whye!

Tragic Day for NJD
The worst of my fears all came true for the Cineleisure performance. The stage size posed a problem( Mark even almost slide off the stage in one choreographed fight), the audience was unsupportive(there was jeers), and the performers lacks alot of maturity. The only consolation was that They never screw up the entire performance, kudos goes to them for remembering their routines. Unfortunately, I got lotsa info from various sources that there are expert Martial Artist who went down to see the performance out of curiousity. Personally I would not blame the juniors for the outcome but would like to slice n dice the MC on stage that day. He couldn`t have kept his big bloody mouth shut. Making stereotypical noises and shouts that is often heard in those 70s kung fu movies. Making the whole scene cheesier and masking out the music that my Juniors are listening out for the timing. Basically his jokes are definitely NOT funny and the comments that he said about us able to break bricks with our heads and some of us decendants of Bruce Lee is definitely out of point.
It could have ended there but no......the committee had to do "extra" performance after the actual one. Wonderful. As if we had not shamed ourselves enough. They had to go on stage on try to break the remaining tiles. Pls....we did not book Cineleisure. Over a hundred pair of eyes are watching and this is NOT Ngee Ann. Colin and I was so embarassed of their actions that we just had to siam to one corner. Had this urge to just go on stage n drag them down. But did not cos I dun wanna make them paiseh. They can`t even hold the tiles properly. Let alone accomplish breaking the tiles. G***** even failed to break the tile after five kicks!!! After the 2nd kick it was too painful to watch on.... n the MC just had to rub it in by requesting to break one of the tiles too. Too much to blog here on wat happened that day. But Chris gotta take the cake as usual. Totally broke his hand while attempting the break....end up gotta send him to hospital. Nice.
Enough for now.
Next post gonna be more happy ones...
perhaps about more torchlights!!!! *big big grin*

August Random Rants
Been to the basement of cineleisure and saw the "stage". It`s a mock Boxing Ring actually! Can`t believe we are go to squeeze in a fight that`s less than 5 square metres! Have finished choreographing all the fights and performances. Now all they need is music and the 3P.....Practise, PracTISe....and PRACTISE!!!! Something they are not doing very seriously. Hopefully they wouldn`t malu themselves in front of all the young and critical teens that makes up the Saturday population at Cinleisure. Very unlike the previous one at Far East Square where the audience are all martial artist and therefore very supportive. Well I`ve put in all the effort that a senior can. Only can hope for the best prepare for the worst.
A new zombie flick is coming up....Think the title is Land of the Dead. Have always quite like those shows. It`s good brainless fun for a couple of hours. But recently felt like them... very brain-dead....can`t even think of even one saboh tactic for WQ, Whale of Baby`s birthday!!!! ARRGGGGHHHHHH!!! This cannot be!!!!It`s just not me!!! But do not relax the three of u...... I will be back!!!! hahahahaHAHAHA
Surprise of the month: After a short meet up wif my Sec Sch best fren Bog Imp to discuss on his MTV, I found out that his GF was actually Miz Chan`s cousin.....n to think we were there laughing about us eyeing the same girl back in sec one. Singapore cannot get any smaller.
Seems like nowadays my flasholism has brought me to many a funny places in Singapore when we were "torchlight testing". Manage to explore more nature areas where most would not venture.... and found a few more abandon sites too.
Sadly my torchlight buddy Mark will be immigrating to Canada real soon. Will miss the time when we were testing out in the wild. On a lighter note, one of my juniors have seen the light and joined us in the dark side of flasholism. Well nothing dark about it esp if I flashbang them with my 500 lumens MN21 HOLA. HAhahAh.... Intend to install this to a bicycle on nite cycling trips. SO BEWARE road hogging night cab drivers!!!! Dun look in ur rear view mirror at night.....if you still care about ur cornears!!!!!!
Yeah still got the one with the(I`m starting to sound like someone here...)incident where I disturbed the NTU orientation..... but that will be another post...
Hmmm.. so much words but no pics..... will try to post some later on....(later on could very well mean next month!!!)

Ubin Chalet with the Juniors

Just been back from my long awaited chalet with my juniors from Ninjado, now still feeling the fatigue from sleeping 4 hours in nites. Gotta admit I`m not the old self I was in Poly/sec days liao. It`s still worth it though. Everything went very smooth in terms of schedule. What was planned was executed with little hassle (din get to visit Chek Jawa though. For that I gotta thank them.
Yeah, it is really more fun staying wif a bunch of ppl near the age of secondary sch. I find chalets filled wif ppl in the adult age group kinda boring nowadays. It just does not contain the energy of those in the age where there are more restrictions.
We managed to escape paying the excess $$$ (in the range of 400++!!!) for the extra ppl staying overnight through some gate climbing "maneuver". I really wonder what the management was thinking (except for pure proft) stating such rules that for extra ppl over night a fee must be paid per head. Kaoz... the most ridiculous ruling I heard in years!! So when we was booking out, the guard was very shocked to see 12 ppl heading out! Didn`t know that there was so much ppl inside the compound!!! He could have been more shocked if the other 9 headed out together wif us!!! hehehe.
Back in the poly days, I learnt that you can know a person thoroughly by staying one night together with him or her. Be it a camp, a sleepover or a chalet. Things haven changed one bit. Whateva ugly head was reared. These ppl really need some upgrading in maturity, EQ, even simple IQ. Not to mention simple survival and tactical skills. Fortunately, this does not apply to all of them. But for those that I pin pointed, they can really make u vomit blood at will. Shall not mention names but I truely hope they take this chance in poly to see the real world and not get caught unaware when they step into the working world. Last thing, an upgrade in rough terrain biking skills will be useful too....so that ppl will not have to bring you all to the police post for wound dressing!!!
And as for my xiaomei: Ur tao hua jie is really starting to make itself very "noticeable". And also becoming a source of irritation to ur da ge! Of cos it`s not that she can help it. Oh well, ninjado has always been a place of ji mo nan nai ppl. heheheh....

A few more bits and pieces
Lot of stuff happened in between.
Explored (read: trespass) a few more abandon properties, NP Kitagaryu Ninjado's Business picked up cos of the '88 baby boom, leading to stronger resolve to train back my skills. Was gonna blog down a whole lotta stuff (include lotsa nice pics!! )but guess it'll have to wait again...Off to save someone who's having Tao2 hua1 yun4....heh....really have to blog more often....keep missing out alot of juicy stuff due to damn piss poor memory.
Meanwhile here's a couple more teaser pic of my non-existent-plot-movie...

Miz Chan's Present!
So decided to do abit of shopping at Wisma, bras basah's Art Fiend and Ikea(which I feel is still the best place to source for custom gift ideas to sian xiao mei mei etc....)for the present.
And this was wat I made wif the stuff :
THE present:
Ok....here's a short description of the process....
Firstly since Miz Chan mentioned she wanted a ring(stop sniggering ur nose off already. Both of us definitely not in the mood for marriage yet! She just wan one for the aesthetics of it.)so I got her one at bit and pieces. But no....this falconz/flashaholic/man-maid/siao-lang couldn't have left it at there right? I can't possibly give such a boooring present!
In comes the decorations!!!:
Bought one of those fake hurricane lamps from ikea which I already long felt was a good decorative item. It'll make a good display case for the ring.....
Then I noticed that the head section was hollow and "fun stuff" can be hidden in there....heheeheh....inspirations start oozing in liao!!!
To fix the Ring to the centre of the Lamp, I used one of these candle. The lamp was suppose to be designed for such stuff anyway:
One of those aromatherapy candles:
Used a butane torch and melted the centre portion before inserting the Ring which will then "stand up" for display! Then the candle wif the ring will be stuck in the centre of the lamp.

Next will come the cutting and pasting of decorative strips of blue foam and cotton wool (from Art Fiend) which can be seen in all the pics...
And finally......
Remember the Hollow in the head portion which i mentioned?
From Sim Lim Tower I sourced a few electronic parts: battery holder(I modded it further to hold more batteries), 26 AWG wires, solder wire, butane soldering pen, switch......(not all in pic)
Some of the tools:
I soldered a simple but effective circuit to a 26K mcd 5mm bi-pin LED and hidden them all inside the Hollow head using Blu-Tack and sticky tapes wif the LED pointing down on the main topic: the Ring!

and a handy switch at the top!

And it's done!!!!!
Here's a few shots of the lamp wif the LED on!!

Cool Eh? hehe
Nice?
Note to Our wushu baby: Did you notice the STARS shaped shadows and light cos of the STAR shaped holes on the lamp? ahhaahahah.....
Hopefully this will not be my final project yet .....

HP pics
Tonight's theme: Misc photos from my HP!!
no.1: Opposite my favourite Tosai shop at casuarina rd:
kinda like the pic above esp if you can picture the street lamp to be the sun. Abit eerie.
No. 2: Berkelah waterfalls
Seen here posing together wif Jinlong in front of the waterfall.
No. 3&4: Weiquan's businesses!

Looks like Engineering is not the way to go n our dear wq ventures into the F&B and tourism trade!
No 5: Bermulut
My recent bermulut trip. Camped at the top but as you can see, our effort of climbing (plus a couple of hrs trekking in super heavy rainfall) is paid off wif a totally breathtaking and exotic view of..bushes....
No 6: Hello kITty? No! It's Hi Kitty!
Long lost cousin of the Family's favourite Hello Kitty decides to moonlight as a model for tissue paper packets. Never as n never will be as famous as the former but at least it's got a mouth to act cute wif....
Ok more crap later.....

Short Film Shoot
So far have been keeping busy...
If it's not about ninjado (my hand's still sore from yesterday's tile breaking), wushu, then it's about film shoots.
Weekends: Been filming short films wif my dear Miz Chan wif a borrowed camera and some other equipment which was either bought or booked out of NP's FSV.
The planning was damn hectic all of last week and sleep sacrifice just to film those few short mins....just so that the super 3CCD camera can diao us n refuse to work on that day.
Sianz..Miz Chan wasn't able to shoot her film but at least in the afternoon, I managed to shoot abit wif the camera randomly switching from operational to bad weather mood.
Sweat alot, got headache from the haze but I'm still grateful for frens like Raymond and Yuhua for coming down to help the whole day. And Guanghao too(my Lead) who din even complain abit when he had to fight n get really dirty in his formal wear!
Still got lots to shoot but what the heck, take my time lah. Ain't aiming at Cannes anyway. More on this little plotless film of mine....watch this space!
Okay. It's official: I'll have to STOP purchasing torchlight till yr 2006(Minus next week's trip to Japan). Or be bankrupt! Just bought a obscenely ex one...hehehh....
Yeah one last thing, just noticed this pic drawn by Rachael, Miz Chan's sis, from her place at the staircase:

Nothing Special?
Let's take a look at the bottom corner:

Hehheh.....

Boss not in office whole day, not to mention not much calls or orders so spent the day being absolutely anti-productive.
Surfed the net, done up some ECO stuff with the free time, n went to LongBow HQ in the afternoon to claim warranty on my corrupted Luxeon Star. It's good to see they give good customer service n changed it without hesitation. Got a free CR123 bat too! At least saved myself a hundred bucks!
Went Ninjado in the evening, haven trained for a month, got sore back now as i'm typing, not to mentioned hand n knuckles due to sugarcane breaking.
Received my Q-III as expected. The shipment from South Korea finally came albeit a day late but it's not that I care. But the seller suddenly further reduced the price by 7 USD today... well too bad.
Accidentally chip off a bit of my UCL when I was interchanging the micra len for use in the ECO tube. See beh xing tong but at least the chip wun affect the overall beam in anyway. Gotta be more careful when modding lights liao...
Still sad that my home internet access is still down so i guess all my Chek Jawa, Ninja, misc pics destined for this blog will have to wait.....

Standard Zehan Pose
Tan Zehan
Treasured friend and senior
Departed us all on 13th Feb 05
He will be missed by all....
SO MAKE SURE U COME BACK FROM A YR LATER AH!!!
HEH!
To those who dun know this guy above, he's my senior/junior from Ngee Ann poly.
Senior cos he entered the course of Chemical Engineering 1 yr before me....
Junior cos he decided that he loved NP that much n decided to stay on for an additional one n a half yr. N superceded me in my post to lead Kitagaryu Ninjado Club to new heights after I went the way of Tekong. Now recently left Singapore to study some Sports degree at a university down under(hopefully not six feet :p)
Was n perhaps still is the only fighter whom I can humbly admit defeat to in terms of speed and technique. (I despised those that utilise their "superior" body weight to gain advantage). And perhaps one of the few last members in NP Ninjado that understands the importance of constant training & martial etiquette. If only the same can be said of his social etiquette! hahah..

The standard D.I.Y shop Packaging
Brand: Rayovac
Designation: Industrial 2AA Swivel Light
Cost(at the time): Should be around $19.90
Disassembled
Above: A very basic torchlight. This is the max I can dismantle the torch without any usage of tools or smashing it to bits.
Flashback: Can't remember when or where I got this torchlight but it should be somewhere around 5 yrs ago in a hardware store. That was around the time of my early stages of flashaholism where I didn't know about the existence of Surefires and ARCs. Which also makes it a hell lot easier for my wallet too.
Beam Shot at approx. 1m
From the beam shot, we can that it's far from perfect wif lotsa dark spots and artifacts in it. But it's quite acceptable for a tiny(see pic below) krypton bulb. There is a wide sidespill to it but it ain't shown in the pic.
It's either a teenie weenie Krypton bulb or it's just Zuming's index fingers.
Oh! It's the bulb! damn...
Overall, useful for finding ur way in the dark or looking for ur keys when you dropped it under the bed. But definitely not for crucial ops like personnel search or signalling. But there is one thing I dun quite understand. According to the manufacturer, this light is suppose to be for industrial use but wif completely no waterproofing(no O-rings to be found), dangerously loose battery cap, and no flame proofing(I can picture someone blowing up a refinery wif this little fella already), they really need a overhaul of components or claims.
Other stuff:
Adjustable Bezel
Back clip
Here are some saving graces for the torch: an adjustable 360° turning head, including 90° verticle. A nicely done faceted reflector (which have it's own advantages and disadvantages). And a useful backclip. Not recommended for clipping onto the bill of a cap to act as a headlamp unless you are looking for lost change on the floor( the weightof the torchlight will cause the bill to droop n cover your frontal and aerial line of sight.)
Multi faceted Reflector
Oh wat's that from 4 metres? Oh no...it couldn't be.....
Yep... it is..!(4 metres beamshot zoomed in)
Yep... it ain't exactly a handsome light but it does look at home with this kitty huh?
And lastly, I would like to thank this certain animal in the "family" for the sugg that made all these pics possible!!!
Got the air tickets today. Very efficient of my boss. Leaving in the unearthly hrs of 11th march and returning on an almost unearthly hr on 16th.
Can't believe i'm going over to the Land of the Fish and electronic gadgets!
As for a certain massive fren of mine.....dun forget this is also the birth land of none other than our favourite HELLO KITTY......be afraid... be Very afraid!!!! Heh. The struggle ensures.

This torchlight fetish is getting to me! Just.....can't....stop....purchasing...
Better stop this shopping spree if i'm to meet my savings target this April.
Anyway I just found that i'm not the only "weirdo" collecting torchlights in Singapore.... it appears that there are tons of ppl even more siao than me!
Just one week after i returned from Berkelah waterfalls, there's this girl from Temasek poly fell and injured herself on the same route. Actually could have been me, almost slided down the rock wall n fell 20 feet down thanks to my banana-peeled undersurfaced sandals!
Got a very damn bo liao call from a PRC this morning from UMCi, which really waste my HP bill cos he called the wrong gas supplier and actually wasted 5 mins just to clarify stuff with him cos of his PRC English. So much for the Second Largest Semiconductor company in the world.
On a lighter note, a call from NTU confirmed that I managed to make the sale of equipment!!!!!Coupled wif the confirmation of DSI last week, the total is almost 60k! Hah... hope it makes up for my quotation mistake that made us lost 2k !
hehehe
