Catch-up post: The Holidays

It seems like no matter what I can't seem to blog more often than once every other month, and then I have a ton of catching up to do - or at least a ton of pictures to post.  Here are some highlights, starting in late November.

Two thoughts:  1. I like how this picture shows Kate and Jane's differing attitudes toward motherhood.  2. Do you think Jane looks like the thug baby from Toy Story 3 here, or is it just me?

Texting.

We spent Thanksgiving in Houston this year.  While I was home I got to see my dear friend Brittney, hooray!  And met her little boy James for the first time.  Cute little guy.

My grandparents also came to Houston for Thanksgiving, and they win the award for most active and involved great-grandparents ever.  They took our girls on long walks and outings to the park multiple times a day.  It was awesome.  Here is our whole group at Guadalajara's, which was a great rediscovery!  Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had.

The six of us ran a 5-mile Turkey Trot race on Thanksgiving morning.  (Did I mention they are the most active great-grandparents ever?)  It was surprisingly hot that morning.  Also, Kate is a funny addition to this picture.

Back in Temple between Thanksgiving and Christmas now.

Every bathtime, Kate carefully sculpts Jane's sparse head of hair into some new work of art.  This is one of her creations.  And I like how the bath seat creates the perfect modesty patch.

There was a Christmas parade here in Temple, and Scott had to work but I decided to take the girls anyway.  The parade was ok, but all Kate wanted was to see Santa, and it seemed like his float would never come.  Finally, as I was snapping a couple of pictures of the girls, Kate spotted him coming.

In case you missed it, this was our Christmas card picture.  Merry Christmas!

I had arrived home late one night and was trying to eat dinner leftovers in peace, but these two little vultures weaseled their way onto my lap.

You have to enlarge this picture to see Janie's facial expression as she tries to wrench the fork from my grasp.

Santa came to our ward Christmas party. :)  No tears from Janie, just wary glances.  Kate put in her gift requests for herself and for Janie.  (Kate - a Rapunzel doll, Jane - a baby stroller.)

The City of Temple puts on a lot of great family events and races.  This picture was taken at the Jingle Bun Run - it was a 5k.  It is really great to have friends who are always up for a run.

I placed first in my age group, and the prize was a voucher for a free massage.  Still haven't used it but it was exciting to win something.

After the 5k there was a kids' 1k and I decided to enter Kate.  I wasn't sure how she would do, but apart from a short time when she wanted me to carry her, she ran the whole thing.  Santa was racing too and she didn't want him to see her walking. :)

Proud of completing the princess puzzle.

One of the highlights of Christmas break was going to the Dallas temple to see Aunt Darleen and David get sealed.  Here is the whole group that made it up to Dallas.

The happy couple.

Sister-friends.

The Thurber sibs, minus Camille who had to work that day.

Back in Houston for Christmas.  We Thurbers love our Mexican food!  Christmas Eve at Pappasito's:

The mariachi guys set up their act right behind Camille.  Her reaction was awesome.

Jane enjoys food.

Christmas morning!  Kate wanted to be photographed with both grandparents.

Maybe we could submit this one to awkwardfamilyphotos.com

This is my favorite picture of all.

On New Year's Day my dad and I ran in the Texas Marathon.  He did the full, I did the half.  He got a new personal record (3:39) and so did I (1:48), so it was a happy day for us.  Christine snapped this photo halfway through - thanks, Christine!

The cheering squad as we waited for Dad to finish.

Don't we look cool in our hats?  The medals were the best part - I think they weighed around 5 lbs each.  You can't wear them for more than a couple of minutes before you start feeling like you need to go see a chiropractor.

Lastly, another priceless photo of Janie.  We were visiting Camille in San Marcos and Janie soiled her clothes so she had to borrow a shirt from Camille.  It says "I'm with Jason."

The Marathon and the monster it created...

I am going to apologize right now, because this post will mainly be about me. I was tagged on Facebook in a few choice pictures from the Houston Marathon, which took place this past weekend, and I wanted to share the joy they brought with all of you. Clint and I were asked to volunteer as a part of the Todd Krampitz Foundation (a foundation my boss is a board member of). I was asked especially to attend to the "Hooplah Station" to encourage runners at mile 10 of the half marathon, a post which I took very seriously. This was the result---I give you: "The Evolution of the Marathon Monster"

{starting out with the gatorade station. it was 7:30 am, and we had been awake since 5. tired but focused, but in all honesty, clint looks pretty happy to be there ;)}

{getting into the spirit of the gatorade station. right here you can see that i want to be in the picture, but i also am trying to keep my arm as extended as possible so i don't lose gatorade customers. i became pretty competitive with the chick in front of me}

{once the gatorade customers became sparse, we meandered over to create some hooplah. clint wasn't all that into it at first. and the megaphone was cramping my style.}

{now we're getting the hang of it!}

{then "fergalicious" came on...}

{and my freak flag started waving}

Poor Clint. He has an embarrassing wife.
