so we went to the chairlift today! super exciting. the luge ride was fun except we got stuck halfway cos bebs did an E brake and lost the momentum. then we had to push with our legs before we could move again. then when we reached the bottom, our pic wasnt even in the computer. i guess we both looked too retarded. then came the moment of truth. the chairlift! for someone who doesnt like to shake hands, bebs gripped my hand real tight when we went up.

i forgot to talk about the culinary adventure i had with bebs on saturday! hehe. we went all the way to mehico to make tacos! yumyum tacos. and we even had pseudo wine to go with it. i know wine isnt very mexican but who cares. it was all good!


anyways reported to "The Home of The Spartans", 6 SIR, today. after doing the in-processing, we had a canteen break and put our stuff in a temporary bunk. then we packed up and got 3 days leave. so now i'm on leave till thurs. its 5 day UIP (unit induction programe) after that. then its ops i guess cos word has it i'm taking 2nd year men. lets hope it all goes well. and i cant wait to be outfitted with the LBV and new fieldpack. and most of all the sunglasses! hahah. was telling bebs about it.

ok out with bebs tmr and yy,zy and jas on wed. looks like my leave is all packed.

so my parents bought me a new mp3 player. a sony NW-E002F 512mb one. but as soon as they gave it to me, and i installed the software i realised one thing. it dont work on my pc! thats cause my winxp cant be updated as its not so legal. gah! so screwed up. so i'm letting it go for $130 (negotiable). any takers? more info on it here.

POP-oh. another milestone in my NS life. my graduation from SISPEC and turning from men to specialist. quite a proud moment i must say. lets just hope i can live up to the specialist creed and lead my men well. i'll be going to 6 SIR on monday. from what i gather from people, its a POI unit. now thats gonna be boring. imagine guard duty everyday. sigh. but i'll never know till i actually go there. lets just hope thats not true.
this is the only picture i have that's post-able. quite sad eh? and the turnout for the parade was quite small too. especially for echo. i guess its cos it was on a weekday and at 9am.

in other news, my mum threw away my mp3 player. like wth. she says she saw it on my table and proceeded to throw it away. here's how the sms convo went:

rizal: did u keep my mp3 somewhere?

mum: never la.

mum: eh is it white and philips brand.

rizal: yes.

mum: sorry i think i threw it away.

rizal: huh?

when i called her she was like "i donoe what i was thinking. maybe i wasnt thinking. mabuk ah at that time agaknye" like wat? wahlau that was my bday present. crazy. im gonna ask them for an ipod or something for my bday coming up. heh who told her to throw it away.

and something's very wrong with my pc or hp. i cant seem to get them synchronised. sucks. i just wanna throw all this mumbo jumbo tech and have music playing from an implant in my ear and the ability to take pictures with my eyes and storing em in my brain. ok now im rambling nonsense.

ok a few more things to add about taiwan.

the people there are nice. always friendly and willing to help. also, they're surprisingly quite courteous. unlike the people here. they line up for the train. they dont push n shove. they stand to one side on the escalator. they dont litter. they recycle.

and how come taipei city looks like kota tinggi or something? devoid of that many high rise buildings and mostly 4 storey shophouses. weird.

i hope this entry wont be screened by the people "up there" but i think im gonna talk about my lil trip to taiwan.

lets talk about navigation. well all i can say is i walked from the south part of meilin area all the way to the north, crossing several rivers, mountains and plantations. thank god my route was relatively easy as we could follow the pylons to most of our checkpoints. we passed many weird areas like a chicken farm, a pig farm (damn disgusting) many many temples, and villages. not to mention longan trees. i think i ate like 4kg of longan in the 3 days i was navigating. heh. but i after longstride, im much more confident of my navigation skills. but the company i was with (ritesh, siew, jefferey, kai yang) was great too! we had loads of fun navigating. and im glad to say that me and jeff finished longstride as true warriors, we didnt buy a single thing from the ninja scooter uncle and survived solely on combat rations and alot of longans. heh. and we finished 4th in the whole company and spent the last night all clean and dry and warm in the bunk.

next was warrior. the missions (ambush, fighting patrol, recce, capturing objectives) themselves werent tough, but it was the movement TO the objective that was a killer. on the first day, we walked about 10km in the hot sun to our objective. crazyness and everyone was panting and grunting and moaning along the way. gah. the 2nd day was only about 4km, but it was sickening nonetheless. moving in the dark at 12am isnt much fun. especially with potholes, a river to cross, fallen trees, upslope downslope undulating terrain and rocks everywhere. i cant remember the number of times i fell down. and the weather was the worst part. fucking hot in the morning and afternoon, wet and rainy throughtout the night. i slept in mud for all 8 days which isnt much fun. everything was muddy and wet and disgusting.

but i made it. we all made it. zero report sick in my platoon. we did it guys. we are Warriors. pictures will be up once my camera arrives from taiwan.

so im back! Starlight was a blast. Longstride navigation was great. we finished 4th in the company. Warrior was depressing and fun at the same time. it rained every single day and i practically slept in mud everyday. sickening. R&R was fun. shopped like mad. spent $350 to $400 i think. but im happy with my buys. everyone (read mum dad sis bebs and me) got a thing or two and they were all happy with it. yay to me!

i left my camera in ROC. the tour agency's gonna mail it to me and apparently i'll get it back in a week or two. i cant wait to upload the pics up. brought my cam everywhere during Starlight. lotsa pics to share.

spending the day with bebs was absolute bliss. shall talk more about it later after i choose which pics to be uploaded here.
