The bride tells her husband The bride tells her husband, "Honey, you know I'm a virgin and I don't knowanything about sex. Can you explain it to me first?"
"OK, Sweetheart. Putting it simply, we will call your private place 'theprison' and call my private thing 'the prisoner'. So what we do is: put theprisoner in the prison.
And then they made love for the first time.
Afterwards, the guy is lying face up on the bed, smiling with satisfaction.
Nudging him, his bride giggles, "Honey the prisoner seems to have escaped."
Turning on his side, he smiles. "Then we will have to re-imprison him."
After the second time they spent, the guy reaches for his cigarettes butthe girl, thoroughly enjoying the new experience of making love, gives hima suggestive smile, "Honey, the prisoner is out again!"
The man rises to the occasion, but with the unsteady legs of a recentlyborn foal.
Afterwards, he lays back on the bed, totally exhausted.
She nudges him and says, "Honey, the prisoner escaped again."
Limply turning his head, He YELLS at her, "Hey, its not a life sentence,OKAY!
Poor guy A man escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a young couple in bed.
He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair, while tying the girl to the bed he gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom. While he's in there, the husband tells his wife:
"Listen, this guy's an escaped convict, look at his clothes! He probably spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck." If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain, do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is probably very dangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us. Be strong, honey. I love you."
To which his wife responds: "He wasn't kissing my neck. He wwas whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute, and asked me if we had any vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you too!!"

Hello everybody! This is the compo done by Hanafi which got the highest mark.
Title: Traditions
The world is a colourful place with many colourful traditions that are practised by the people of this world. In my understanding, traditions are the olden and authentic aspects of one's culture that are usually passed down from one generation to the next. Traditions are something close to the heart and cannot be altered or removed according to how a person lives or where he stays.
Traditions can be sub-divided into aspects such as food, clothes, practices, music and many more. It also covers the eccentric categories such as taboo or spiritual rituals. As a Javanese, I follow the Javanese traditions that are greatly influenced by the Indonesian culture. Going into detail, the Javanese race and culture significantly spread during the Majapohit and Srivijaya empires in the 14th century. It was during this time that many Indonesian travellers spread their beliefs and traditions along Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines and even India. As a child, I was greatly exposed to my own culture through the food I eat, the clothes I wear and also the traditional folklore and fables which I still enjoy listening to up till this day. I am very proud to say that my culture and traditions are very colourful and enchanting.
However, as modernisation sets in and science and technology vastly develops, more and more people in this world become more affluent and has joined the rat race towards success. This large turning point of the world has slowly destroyed the ancient world and the cultures and traditions of many. More people have forgotten their roots and neglect the very thing that identifies their race. They now see traditions as old and useless and even treat them as 'unproven theories'.
In my opinion, it is very important for traditions to be practised as it reminds a person of his roots. It is through one's cultures and traditions that their morals are shaped according to his or her beliefs and prohibitions in his or her culture. Nowadays, we see plenty of youngsters and members of the young generation getting influenced by the latest and most modern trends and fashions. I believe that they must be exposed to their traditions for them to know who they really are.
Parents, schools and the government can work together to set up campaigns to sustain traditions. For example, this campaign can be an informative one where people would learn to appreciate his traditions and the traditions of others. We must not let the modern world slowly shroud us from our morals and traditions.
In conclusion, I believe that my traditions have shaped my morals and has taught me that my roots are just as important as everything else. Everyone in this world of diverse cultures and traditions deserve to appreciate how special and unique their traditions are. We must sustain our traditions for the future generation as it is the pillar that supports our race and culture.

Congratulations to the 10 of you who have agreed to take part in the above mentioned competition after much persuasion by your EL teacher. You have emerged to win the competition however, due to failing to meet the requirements of having mixed gender in the performance of the song, we were down by two points and that made us on par with class 37. Nevertheless, I did enjoy my time with you guys especially when we recorded our self-improv stomp music at cyberlab 4. Well, work hard and practise for the finals. It is the public you will be facing with on 6 June.

Shawn rejected a couple of roles in movies such as Jack Neo's Love Matters. He had to turn down Mr Neo's offer because the movie was filmed during the his A-level exams week last November. Shawn said on Friday: 'I would have to commit to a movie for about two months and just could not keep up with the schedule and juggle my studies at the same time.'

Project Work for Secondary 3E/NA Article 2 - Vocabulary Worksheet
Message to 3/6: Copy these definitions and write in your own words in point forms. You don’t have to copy down every single thing here.
1. subprime mortgage crisis It is a critical situation whereby subprime borrowers for residential purchases are unable to make timely payments to the loan provider (for example, a bank). “Subprime borrowers” refers to those who would otherwise not able to receive such loans under normal credit scrutinisation standards.
“credit scrutinisation” : credit evaluation
subprime lending : providing credit to borrowers who do not meet prime (most desirable standard set by the lender’s credit committee) underwriting guidelines. It involves a higher risk of defaulting on repayment by the borrower but that does not mean that subprime lendings were created for low-income applicants. It is usually for short-term credit where the lender has faith that the borrower is able to make a repayment, such as after having made a profit in a real-estate transaction or has received payment for goods sold. In a bid to make more revenue, banks turn to subprime lendings during good economic times because they believed that people were more well-off, the economic market was so synergised and that borrowers were able to pay off their debts due to the rapid transactions such as in the property markets (people who purchase properties to make ample profit within a short period of time. They are also called flippers). If the banks were to approve loans on strict guidelines all the time, they would have lesser customers to service.
2. International Monetary Fund (IMF) It is an international organization which oversees the global financial system. It also offers financial and technical assistance to its members as a lender of last resort.
The International Monetary Fund was created in 1945 to promote the stability of the international monetary and financial system—the system of international payments(such as telegraphic transfers) and exchange rates among national currencies that enables trade and financial transactions to take place between countries. The Fund's job is to promote economic stability, help prevent crises, and help resolve them when they do occur, thereby promoting growth and alleviating poverty. Its three main activites—surveillance, technical assistance, and lending—are intended to meet these goals. Countries contributed to a pool which could be borrowed from, on a temporary basis, by countries with payment imbalances .It has a membership of 185 countries and Singapore is one of them.Source http://www.imf.org/
3. defaulted loans Loans which the borrower fails to pay timely. 4. illiquid Choked/filled mainly by many assets which cannot quickly and easily be converted into cash, such as real estate and collectibles.
liquid assets are important for a market or business to function smoothly. In a market with a lot of liquid assets, there are many ready buyers with cash and sellers. So, there is a possibility of more transactions taking place and assets changing hands faster. Illiquid assets need time to be converted into cash and so, it is less preferred and slows down the completion of the transactions. Even banks prefer cash over real estate as collaterals.
Values of illiquid assets are also not easily determinable as they are subject to changes. That is why real estate property, if placed as a security/collateral for an approved loan, needs to be valuated every year to see if the borrower needs to top up the collateral in cash or other forms of collaterals..
For a business, cash is used for making payments. Take for example a business which distributes stationeries. It has to pay rent, electricity, purchased items, etc every month. If it does not have any cash, how is it going to pay for them? With illiquid assets such as pencils, pens and erasers as barters?
5. capital injectionThe provision of financial support to a department, business or financial entity. In the context of this article, the provider of the capital may be given partial ownership of the business in exchange for the financial support rendered, by means of shares, acquisition of the operational arm of the business, etc.
The business entity which receives the financial support may purchase back the shares/department/equities, once its business has recovered, at a price higher than what it was paid for. So, investors/governments which provided the financial support for the business entity stand to make a profit in the end.
So, why do businesses want to recover those assets even at a higher price? This is because they want to regain control. If a government/investor is a major shareholder or owns a department in the company, the former can set its own terms against the company’s favour and reap profits for as long as it owns them.
6. central bank It refers to a government monetary authority which is responsible for the monetary policies of a country. It may also have supervisory powers over banks and financial institutions and act as a lender of last resort in times of financial crisis.
Singapore’s central bank – Monetary Authority of Singapore, the US – Federal Reserve Bank. In the US, the Feds, as it is affectionately known, also controls the interest rates. Singapore’s economy is too small for interest rate cuts to have much effect. Instead, it regulates the FOREX market for the Singapore dollars. See previous worksheet for definition of “monetary policies” and (2 - IMF) above for meaning of “lender of last resort”.
7. loan maturity period The agreed period (between lender and borrower) in which a loan has to be repaid and paid up completely by the end of it, in stages or with a one-time full payment. The borrower may also conclude the repayment before the end of the maturity period if he has the means.
For example, if Mr Lee takes a loan of $1,200 with a loan maturity period of six months, he must repay the principal amount plus interest by the 6th month from the date the loan was taken in installments or lump sum as agreed with the bank. He also has the option of completing the payment before the 6th month in which case, he would pay less for the accumulated interest.
8. collateral An asset guarantee owned by the borrower, such as property or fixed deposits, pledged for the repayment of a loan which will be transferred to the lender should the borrower defaults on the loan.
9. financial support facility The structure and physical means for the provision of financial support that is governed by the terms and conditions agreed between the parties involved.
It describes the support plan. Structure design and physical means – Defined by a written agreement which details the financial support to be rendered. Physical means refers to the actual support such as credit line, cash which the borrower has access to.
10. credit default swaps (CDS) It is the transfer of credit default risk (typically for a bond or loan) of a credit instrument from one party to another in an established CDS market. It is a contract in which the buyer of the CDS makes a series of payments to the seller for protection against default by the buyer’s borrowing party and, in exchange, the buyer receives a payoff if a credit instrument goes into default or on the occurrence of a specified credit event (for example bankruptcy or restructuring). CDS can be bought by any investor and it is not necessary for the buyer to own the underlying credit instrument. This is a slightly complicated concept for students to understand. It is not very important for them to know in detail at this point of time but analysts fear that the failure of the CDS market will be the next major factor to pull the global economy down even further during this recession. It is estimated that the CDS market may lose tens of trillions of dollars.
Using the AIG example in the article: Three possible scenarios:1. Mr Richman does not default on the loan at all. AIG gains from the annual payment from Bank Unity. The latter loses the amount paid to AIG but they had a peace of mind and gained on the interest payments from Mr Richman2. Mr Richman defaults on the loan. AIG is to pay Bank Unity USD4 million dollars or the difference between the 4 million and the amount paid to AIG so far.3. AIG starts a CDS chain by buying a CDS from another investor for its own protection against a default by Mr Richman
11. credit evaluation The process in which the lender scrutinises the risk levels of the potential/existing borrower and in providing the credit facility.
12. cash reserves It refers to the excess money/funds available that is beyond what is needed immediately or anticipated by the company. It can also function as emergency fund should the company needs to pay for something unexpected. To help students understand better, you may want to draw a parallel to personal savings which can be invested later or used for emergency purpose.
13. stock market index It is a numerical index on a statistical compilation of the share prices of a number of selected representative stocks.
Stock indices such as FTSE, Dow Jones, S&P, STI, Hang Seng, Nikkei.
14. consumer confidence It is the degree of optimism/confidence on the state of the economy that consumers are expressing through their activities of savings and spending.
15. over-supply An excess of supply against what is actually demanded/required by the market or the buying ability of the market. For example, a case whereby there are 100,000 cars for sale in the market but there are only 20,000 buyers looking to buy a car. 16. credit crunch It refers to a sudden reduction in the general availability of loans (or credit) for corporations and inter-bank lendings. Also known as a credit crisis or credit squeeze. This could be due to a more cautious lending environment and the high cost of borrowing (such as high interest rate and fees). Inter-bank lendings : market where banks lend money to each other. So, if a bank does not meet its liquidity requirements (money) as set by regulators such as the central banks, it will need to borrow from banks with excess of it at an interest rate. The interest rate at which banks lend to each other in Singapore is known as Singapore Interbank Offered Rate (SIBOR). In London, it is known as LIBOR.
17. Certificate of Entitlement (COE) It is a paid right to buy a motor vehicle in Singapore through a bidding scheme over a deliberately restricted number of certificates for different vehicle categories.
18. bailout It refers to an act of loaning or giving capital to a failing business in order to save it from a financial crisis or bankruptcy.
19. assets It refers to any possession that has a cash value/convertible to cash.
20. nationalised It refers to the act of taking a company (private or public-listed) into the ownership of a national government.
DBS is an example of a partially nationalised bank in Singapore. The government’s investment arm, Temasek Holdings, bought a significant percentage of DBS shares to become one of its major shareholders.

Project Work for Secondary 3E 1. Recession It is a decline/contraction/fall/downturn in a company economic activity. This is usually reflected by a decline in a country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2 successive quarters of a year of more. GDP – quantitative indicator to assess a country’s economic health.

Depreciation of the Singapore Dollar It refers to a loss of value of/weakened/cheaper Singapore dollar with respect to another currency (ies) in the foreign exchange market, such as the US dollar or Malaysian ringgit. E.g. the depreciation of S$, a unit of USD can now be converted to more S$ and the reverse also holds true since you would need more depreciating S$ to buy a unit of USD.
USD against depreciating S$
August 2008 - USD 1 = SGD 1.38
December 2008, depreciating SGD - USD 1 = SGD 1.52
3. Pre-emptively The sensibility to take action in anticipation of possible effects of the recession as a deterrent measure or to soften the impact when it finally hits.
E.g. Deterrent measures – more stringent credit checks for bank loan applications, debt recovery strategies. E.g. Alleviating measure – education and training, wage freeze, bonus cuts to reduce unemployment.
4. Trajectory Refers to the pattern/trend of the economy’s state of well-being which can be mapped out as a series of alternative upward and inverted quadratic graph pairs ( also known as the ups and downs of a business cycle). Economic growth or recovery is represented by the inclining part of the curve while a contraction is represented by the declining part of the curve. Therefore, a growth trajectory simply refers to an upward trend in the business cycle.
5. Free capital flows The unrestricted movement of capitals (money, investments, assets) across national boundaries/countries. It is also known as global capital flow.
E.g. a Singapore businessman transfers his money to the United States to purchase a USD 3 million apartment in New York. In another example, a Texan oil trader invests his money in a Singapore-based company.
6. Global economy It describes the environment where goods can be bought and sold anywhere in the world as though many different countries function as one huge market entity. Factors such as reduced trade barriers between countries, demand for imports, accessibility by transport and the internet have helped to shape the global economy.
7. Inert Inability to take action (counter-measures)/helpless/incompetent to alleviate the crisis.
8. Fiscal and monetary policies These are policies that can influence the level of economic activity and performance of the economy. Monetary policies are related to the circulation of money within the system. Whereas fiscal policies are measures by the government which usually focus on government’s tax and spending policies.
Monetary policies consist of: i) the supply of money, ii) availability of money, iii) cost of money or rate of interest. Lower interest rates will encourage borrowing, hence more demand for money.
In Singapore, MAS also manages the exchange rate of the Singapore dollar.
Monetary policies are regulated by the government, central banks or monetary authorities. IN the US, it is the job of the Federal Reserve (central bank). In Singapore, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) takes charge.
9. Stimulating domestic spending To encourage spending inside the country. In cases where it is workable, such action will allow some sustainability in domestic economic activities, the demand for goods, production, need for services, employment, prices of goods, etc. This stimulus is usually employed to counter a weakening export market and decreased spending by locals in Singapore, for example. In addition, there must be an incentive for the people to feel comfortable to spend more than they probably would otherwise.
E.g. of government actions/incentives to stimulate domestic spending are cuts in taxes (GST, personal, etc) and in Singapore’s example, the distribution of Singapore Shares and one-time GST Refund payouts to Singapore citizens above the age of 21. The aim of to make people feel comfortable to spend more money than they probably would otherwise. Big scale discounted sales at malls along Orchard Road would tempt locals and tourists alike to spend in Singapore instead of save.
10. Flexi-wage scheme Refers to a scheme in which wages/salaries are made up fixed and variable components. The amount paid for the variable component is subject to periodical reviews and is usually based on factors such as the country’s economic growth, company’s performance and individual assessment. E.g. on a highly profitable year, a company may decide to pay its employees more for the variable component of their salaries each month. Hence, each of their total salary (fixed + variable ) increases.
E.g. Monthly salary for Mr Chan, an accountant (not dependent on commission unlike sales personnel), whose company he works for implement the flexi-wage scheme
