Hofbrauhaus

Had an impromptu dinner with some friends at a very nice German restaurant located at Chinatown. Yes, a German restaurant at Chinatown. I thought I heard it wrongly at first too. Lol. My friend, May, discovered this nice German restaurant called Hofbrauhaus when she was hungrily wandering around Chinatown and just went into this restaurant. Then she always come here ever since. Lol.

My first apple cider. I thought it should be sweeter rather than more alcoholic, but it turned out to be the other way round. The alcohol taste was quite strong, and surprisingly I managed to finish the whole bottle. Lol.

Rekorderlig. It's wildberries cider. This is sweeter and less alcoholic than apple cider.

The waiters and waitresses have traditional German costumes as their uniform. The service is extremely good as they kept coming back to our table, at least more than 5 times, to make sure that we are all fine and happy with our food. Wah...

Kasespatzle. No idea how to pronounce that at all. Eventhough the waitress said it before but we still couldn't catch the pronunciation. Lol. It's a vegetarian dish with German egg noodles baked.

All the dish names are in German. So not sure which German sausage it this one.

Chicken schnitzel with creamy mushroom sauce. The word 'mushroom' shows that this is obviously mine. I wish they can give me a bigger bowl of the mushroom sauce instead of a big chicken. Didn't manage to finish the chips as the chicken was humongous.

A place worth going back. Just have to remember to dress properly when dining in here. Lol.

AgriBio

I have been eyeing on this building for months. Now I finally have the chance to walk towards the building and actually walk into it. This is the brand new multi-million AgriBioscience building for agriculture and animal research to be carried out by scientists from La Trobe Uni and the Victorian Government DPI. The side view of the building.

This is the front entrance. Can't wait for the plants to grow so the building will be surrounded by greenery.

The foyer. There are barriers beyond this point that require an access card to go in further. And because I'm doing some volunteer work in one of the professor's lab, so I got the chance to do the induction and have my own access card! =D

Now I have to carry my access card with an ugly picture of me, but at least it's better than my passport photo and can't be bothered as I can't wait to go in there and start to do some lab work! Now just thinking of no need to run up to third floor to get ice already making me happy. Haha.

9912

9th of September has finally arrived! Even the date has the same pronunciation as "dog" in cantonese. It's our first Dogathon in La Trobe Uni! And also the first event that I organised. I was so nervous until I can feel my heart pumping out. This is an event to raise funds for Guide Dogs Victoria as it costs about $30 000 to breed, raise and train one puppy to be a guide dog. They only receive 7% government funding and none of which is provided to cover that cost.

The uni used this picture to advertise in La Trobe Facebook page saying: La Trobe Dogathon on this Sunday! (How come they never have Cat-athons? Wait. Don't answer that.) Lol!

The puppy raisers came along with their future guide dogs to set up a stall. These two puppies were running around happily on the big lawn while we were setting up. So cute!!

I love this picture sooooo much!! Just like Shadow and Max!! =D

Holding on to my friend's cavalier king charles spaniel while she's getting herself registered. His name is Chester and he is as chubby as a pillow. So cuteee!!!

A very furry golden retriever.

The people are coming!

And we were so glad to have this kind of weather as the weather for the last whole week was horrible.

Walking around the campus. I was walking at the back and so happy to see no signs of dog poo along the way. Aussie dog owners are really different. =D

This puppy just lay down straight after the walk. Didn't even want to wake up no matter how we shake him/her. Lol. So cute!!

The stall selling some pretty GDV merchandises.

There's also a big tub of water for the dogs.

And they seemed to love it too much. LOL!

Dog obedience game.

And here's the boss.

This is Wendy and her gentle giant, Wilfull. Can't remember what type of mixed breed but he is so attractive from far as he looks like a big sheep.

With the guide dogs.

The puppy raisers. All of them volunteer for GDV to raise the guide dogs.

The event turned out to be quite good and the people enjoyed themselves too. We have raised about $400 from this event. Not too bad for the first time though the first time is always the hardest. Phew..... Finally, our project is done! We are now the pioneers for La Trobe Dogathon. Haha... Now I just have to sit here and wait for the Infinity Leadership Program ceremony. =D

The Esplanade, Altona

It's another field trip again! I love field trips! This time it's a coastal marine prac, so we went out to a beach at Altona. It's about an hour drive from uni. Photos taken using my phone. So clear!

There were so many black swans around. Cool place to have a prac! We had to count the 3 different species of gastropods (snails) on the boulders.

We used chalk to draw the lines on the boulders. This is my groupmate counting the snails.

Most of them are very tiny snails.

And this is how much you can get on a boulder. Like the rock growing pimples. Lol.
It's been very very windy these few days until my friend can feel the car a bit unbalance while driving. Although it's super windy till I have to use more/less force while walking depending on the wind direction, it was a fun prac. Didn't fall into the water or get wet because of my handy gumboots. =D

Marine field trip is a lot more awesome than I expected. I want more field trips! Haha.

Shoe Story

I have been wearing this pair of walking shoes for about 17 months, everyday, without fail. These shoes have been to quite a lot of adventures with me. I wear them wherever I go.

Originally from Hong Kong, they spent a short time in Malaysia before they embarked on the journey to Australia with me. I have brought them to many places in Australia. They've been to the city, countryside, supermarkets, restaurants, barbecue, picnic, zoo, aquarium, sanctuary, beach, ponds etc. They protected me from countless kangaroo droppings. They accidentally went into a muddy creek but came out looking the same white and pink colour. They learned dancing. They wandered in the zoo for hours. They brought me through thorny bushes and rocky roads. They went rock climbing and gold digging. They chased dragonflies, beetles, wasps and other bugs with me.

My shoes! They are only 17 months old, yet they look like 10 years old.
I don't feel like throwing them despite I got a blister at the back of my foot now. Maybe the way I walk is too rough which causes both our surfaces to wear off. @@" Can they last a few more months?

Homecooked Dinner of the Month

It was a usual hectic day for me with Dogathon just around the corner. In the evening, I went down to my relative's house to get some stuffs. Can feel the happy feeling of not needing to cook and have a nice homecooked dinner at the end of the day. Nasi lemak!!! With avocado salad. Lol. Mixture of asian and western.

Western mushroom soup made by my uncle. It was so nice until I can't help finishing the whole pot. Lol!
After dinner, my eyes wanted to close so badly, but I still sat there and watched tv as I haven't been watching big screen tv for months. Zzzzz.....
