Last Day of 2011

Look at the sunshine! The temperature was quite similar to that in Malaysia on this day, just that I can't sweat here.

I followed my family weekend tradition. I went for a movie in the morning and it's a good way to hide away from the heat. I have been to the cinemas a few times in Australia and I found that it's never full. Not even a quarter of the cinema. I never had people sitting beside me before. I've tried morning, afternoon, night, weekdays and weekends, still the same. So weird. Angmo don't like to watch movie?? But anyway, I can always sit wherever I want. Hehe. By the way, how can people snore when watching Mission Impossible 4?? Super swt...

After the movie then it's lunch time! There's a newly opened Secret Recipe near the cinema. Oooo!! So I tried their seafood laksa. At first the angmo waiter gave me spoon and fork. I was like "er.... do you have chopstick?". Hmm... how can laksa be eaten with a fork leh? Then when I was mixing the sambal into the laksa, only I got it why he gave me a fork. They used spaghetti instead of noodles and rice noodles. LOL!! Got funny! Got funny! Should call it spaghetti laksa. But other than the funny laksa noodles, the taste was very good and it's not diluted. It's actually alot nicer than many Malaysian restaurants' laksa I've tried so far.

So full after having the spaghetti laksa. Since I've got nothing to do, I did some exploring myself. I took the bus all the way to Garden City. It's near the beach, so I was expecting alot of shops and other things there. However when I reached there, I got very swt! Nothing at all. Plus, I had to walk quite a distance to the beach including that I got lost. Finding the way under this heat is the worse idea. @@" Then finally I saw the sea.

This is Port Melbourne. Got nothing to see at all. Swt.

Besides the beach, there're no shops or cafe or smaller stalls. Only houses.

I just went there for less than half an hour and then headed back to the bus stop. Felt like I was being roasted when walking back. The heat can't get out of me as I can't sweat at all. The sun here is so much more worse than in Malaysia. Pengsan. I think I got tanner because of this as I can see the white band around my wrist because of my watch. Next time better stay indoor.

Anyway, receiving my first pay is the best way to end the year. I might be poor in Aussie dollar, but I'm rich in Malaysian ringgit given that I'm only a part timer. Hehe. Goodbye 2011! Hello 2012!

Christmas 2011

A friend invited me to church on Christmas. Since I've got nothing to do, so I just went there to have a look at the atmosphere. There're singing and story telling and only lasted for an hour.

This is Cathy, from Hong Kong. We walked back to her house for lunch. So nice to be able to speak cantonese with a honkie. It's like chatting with a HK celebrity. When she was explaining how can they type so fast in cantonese, I thought I was watching some kind of talkshow on tv because of the way she explained it. Ya, Hong Kong style of talking. She was very surprised that how TVB can have such big influence on people like me. An ordinary honkie can also become a celebrity. Lol. By the way, my cantonese sounded so broken when talking to her. Why Malaysians always have the broken languages? @@"

Christmas lunch. Black pepper beef, lettuce and jagung (corn). Cathy was very happy that she's learned the word "zha gung" and it's easier to remember when pronounced as "zha ah gung". Lol!!! I've never thought of that.

And it's free public transport on this day. So nice. It started to rain in the evening. Then the sound of the rain hitting the roof was getting louder and louder until I felt irritated because I can't hear what Laughing Sir was saying! Grr...

So I looked out through the window and I saw hail! People have snow during Christmas but I have hail instead. It was hailing heavily and everyone quickly grabbed their camera. Haha.

My leg got hit by hail as they shattered on the floor. Quite painful. @@"

Can see the hail dropping from the rooftop.

Free ice for summer. XD

Phew... luckily I went home early. If not I sure will get thousands of these 'head prizes'.

Xmas Eve 2011

I had my guiding on Christmas Eve. Luckily it's not crowded at all as I heard the older guides said it was very crowded on Christmas day last year. Phew.... don't have to do crowd control and no one would ever like to do that.

There was an Indian family asked for a tour early in the morning. So me and another guide, who was in the same guide training batch as me, did it together. We haven't done a proper tour guiding before, but since we're doing it together so both of us didn't feel too nervous.

The family was so super funny. They had very big reactions everytime they saw an animal. Never saw people so excited and so much energy before. I giggled everytime I saw their excited faces in front of the animal. Furthermore, all the animals were so active on that day. Maybe it's because of the very nice weather. Even the koalas were on the move. Almost all the animals were in their best everytime we reached their exhibits. Giant tortoises, platypus, red panda, asian otters, etc.... all were actively catching visitors' attention.

The tour supposedly up till lunchtime. However, after lunch I bumped into them again and they asked whether can we continue guiding them. Luckily I was walking with another peer of mine, so we did the second half of the guiding together. Both of my peers did only half of the tour but I basically did the whole tour. Soooo tired. We even OT for an hour. @@"

Anyway, it was very fun with them. Enjoyed looking at their expressions very much. Lol.

By the way, I always find myself walking extra fast whenever I'm doing tour guiding no matter in uni or zoo. Or the people are just walking too slow? Hard to squeeze the whole tour into a certain amount of time la!

I'm curious why there aren't many Christmas decorations in a country that celebrates Christmas? Not even in shopping complexes. Compared to those in Malaysia, I realised that I've got nothing to take a picture of over here. I miss those extravagant decorations in 1 Utama or Mid Valley or Sunway Pyramid. =(

Dee's Farewell Dinner

Last Wednesday was a super duper long day for me. It was my first time working for 9.5 hours. Actually it was still okay. I wasn't too tired as there were not many people. After that, I went to the city straight to have dinner with Min Dee and Teck because Min Dee was going to fly back home that midnight.

We went to this Thai restaurant called Kub Klam Appetizer. The menu is cute, but it's super duper hard to read! Grrr....

Steamed spicy squid with garlic and chilli sauce. Omg. I think my bro can start to sweat by just smelling it. Even I had to stop for awhile before I eat another squid. Made my tummy full of water instead. But it's very nice although it's super spicy.

Crispy pork with chinese broccoli. This was very nice too! Love this dish.

Vermicilli salad. Very nice but also very spicy. Can cry if eat too much at the same time. @@"

After our super hot dinner, we headed off to the airport. Even online checked in already still had to queue for so long. Swt. So many people. After the farewell, by the time I reached home, I was already dead tired. x.x

Some random photos of the puppies in the petshop. Why lar buy so many new puppies at the same time? Only 2 people cleaning 8 pens in 1 hour time is soooo tiring. Swt. Usually there're just 4 pens.

I find these two are the cutest among all. They are cavalier king charles cross corgi (a.k.a cavorgi). The girl on the left and boy on the right. I like the girl more because she has got a dot on her head and her fur is longer. So cute!

West highland white terriers! Omg! This was my first time seeing real westies!! They are the most expensive ones because they are not common. A lot of people were so surprised to see them here too. Lol. Like celebrities.

Kawaii...... xD

Zoo Christmas Party

This should also be posted up many days ago but was abit occupied plus slacking. Lol. I volunteered for the zoo christmas party last Saturday because I wanted to know how it looks like. My job was ticketing at the rail gate entrance. So I had to give out wristbands, maps and christmas tokens.

When more people were coming in, I partnered with another lady. So basically I was just giving out wristbands only. I've been repeating the word 'wristbands' for countless times until I got tongue tied at one point. I can't say 'wristbands' properly. Swt! Had to rush to drink water. @@" I saw some small kids were so cute. The way they said 'hello!' to me and they love those wristbands as I tend to give the wristbands to the kids rather than to the parents if I can. There's one little girl thought I wanted to put the wristband on her, so she happily stretched out her hand to me instead of taking it. Felt awkward. Lol. Then her mom asked her to take it.

After the ticketing was done, I wandered around to take pictures. So this was how the christmas party looked like. Like having a picnic in the zoo.

There're people singing....

And there're also people dancing with the fairy.

Tadah! Santa clause is coming to zoo~~

A stiltwoman posing. So geng!

Kids chasing the stiltwoman. Haha.

And the merry-go-round can earn extra bucks during the party. It's abit funny to see the parents also went on the merry-go-round with their children. Kim (not me) has been operating this merry-go-round for 8 hours and she was so dead tired. She usually works at the counter at the zoo entrance which is linked to the staff and volunteer's room. That's why she can recognise all of us although we are just new guides. So nice.

Nah! Finally a picture of me in my uniform. This is Paula. She's a general volunteer and this was only her second time volunteering in the zoo. She's so friendly. She joined me for wandering around, so I did a short tour guiding for her. I'm lucky to get the new pants which has 6 pockets. The old pants is just a normal pants with 3 pockets.

This peacock just walked right passed us when we were taking picture. Lol.

After that I went to the city to have dinner with Min Dee and Teck at the Szechuan House. I just realised my chinese is starting to rust. I can't remember what's soya bean in chinese and the waitress is chinese. She didn't get what's soya bean, so Min Dee helped me said it in chinese. Aiya... A bit banana already. Swt. Even when I'm reading out some chinese words also senget already (wrong tune). Lol. I don't mind my chinese rusting but I definitely won't allow my cantonese to rust as I love cantonese much much more than chinese.

This is szechuan cold noodles. Very nice.

Can't remember the name of this dish. It's some kind of szechuan fish or water cooked fish if directly translated from chinese. Lol. Look at that layer of oil. Swt.

Mixed veges. My only comment: too much cauliflower and too little broccoli.

Chicken with nuts.

That was a bit too much for 3 people and we ended up taking alot away. Haha. We were super hungry when ordering. I've even eaten a sandwich at the zoo but still felt nothing. Lol. Stay tune. Another post is still waiting for me to put it up.

To The City

Lol... should have posted this up many days ago but can't help slacking during this time of the year. Feel like I haven't been to the city for ages. Finally on last Friday, I went down to city to catch up with Min Dee. She's been staying in the city ever since after exam as she works in Nando's over there.

The weather was hot and cold, hot and cold. Haha my meaning is that if you are under a shade then cold; if you are under the sun then hot. But the cold wasn't too cold though. It's just like air conditioner kind of cold.

We went to Hardware Lane with another friend, Teck. I didn't know this small lane is so nice. Looks like in Europe. We went there to get some macaroons as I haven't tried macaroons before. So outdated. @@... I find the hazelnut macaroon is the best. Everything that goes with hazelnut is awesome.

These are macaroons from Cacao inside the General Post Office. Can't remember the name of these flavours because they are abit long.

I got this book for only $5 and it's hard covered plus brand new one (not second hand). So super cheap!! I guess even if there's a discount in Malaysia also can't get this book for RM15. Lol.

Can't leave the city without my favourite Ayam Brand tuna! Ayam Brand is still the best! Miss it so much!
