More Chickens!

The chickens are back! Yay! This semester I've got to play with chickens again! But this time is only 3 people per group and only 1 chick for each group. I like this way better as I've got more chances to touch it. :D

Can see my chick on the left. It's bright yellow colour looks more fluffier.

Don't know what name should we give. Really impressed with those angmo because they are so good at naming.

Today is my turn to weigh it. It kept chirpping when I grabbed it. So cuteeee! And so scared I will squeeze it too hard. :(

I like this location more as it is inside the building and I don't have to walk so far under the sun like last year.

Congratulations to my blog! It's already the #101 entry since I started this blog. I have been thinking about how should I post about it and it's weird if I don't have a picture for a post. So I was thinking... thinking... and thinking... and then she popped up in MSN and made my evening better.

Tadaa.... She is currently suffering from acute-siew-may-fever. Lol. So cute la! :p

Now she is making me suffering from severe mooncake fever. Ahh~~

So my special #101 post is for you! Lucky you to have such nice timing to enjoy this privilege. Haha. xD

Mooncake festival is coming soon!

Werribee Open Range Zoo

My trip to WORZ has arrived! It's an extremely beautiful day today. We arrived a bit too early. Lol. WORZ focuses on African animals and it's also less crowded, so makes my walking more relaxing. xD

After morning tea, the first activity in the itinerary was the safari tour! Yay!! So we got on to a 'camouflaged' bus and off to the savannah. First one up was the bison. Awesome! I wasn't expecting to see a bison in front of me! Have been wanting to see it long time ago. People always mistaken it as a buffalo. @@"

With such thick coat, the bison will rub itself against a tree to shed off the coat during summer and then the coat will be left there like this.

The mongolian wild horse. So cute. Like a pony. xD

This ostrich came and peck on the window. It's either pecking on us or its own reflection. Haha.

The oryx are a bit too far to get a good picture of them. Can see the baby? Hehe.

Up next, the cute african river hippo. I love this picture because of the nice mirror image of the hippo.

The same hippo lying down to the comfy warm ground. So cuteee when seeing him lying down. Really wanted to go down there and pinch him. Lol.

Baby zebra!

Mind me, I can't remember the right name of these antelopes. @@"

Giraffes catwalking.

I got so excited when I saw the rhinos. I was literally showing my shocking expression. Lol. Not sure why rhinos make me so excited but I feel just like in Africa. Weighing 2500kg, I love them to the max!

There are also a lot of rabbits running around, or should I say hares? Haha. So cute! Afternoon, we went for the serval keeper's talk. Many people don't know what's a serval. So here you go. It's a cat. In fact, I only knew it when I started the training. Lol.

It's a lovely weather today. The sun is finally coming out after few weeks of cold and wet weather. I don't mind the cold, but I really dislike the rain whenever I need to go out (I rarely use an umbrella although I've got one).

Thanks to the sun, it's neither too cold nor too warm and it's a perfect day to have an outing like this. I love Werribee Zoo!! :)

Season 8 Favourites

SYTYCD season 8 finale is getting nearer! I'm supporting the b-boy Tadd and the jazz dancer Sasha. I love their solos to the max!

Tadd is a Filipino b-boy that uses all kinds of music for his solo and always make it so entertaining. It's fun watching him. He is more than a b-boy because he is also good at waltz too. xD

Sasha, a very brilliant dancer that blew me away during her audition together with her sister. At first I still thought that both of them were just playing around and audition for fun. However, when both of them dance together on the stage, my jaws dropped. Lol. Their jazz routine was so great that I watched it again and again. So unique and creative. Would like to see Sasha dance with her sister again.

Other dancers are strong as well but these two are at the top of my favourite list and I hope either Tadd or Sasha could win this season. :D

Healsville Sanctuary

The zoo guides have organised a trip to Healsville Sanctuary. The past few days were very warm but today is freezing! And it's a rainy day too. @@" I was told by dad that I came here before few years ago when I first visited Melbourne for holidays with family. However, I can't recall any memory of being here. Lol.

What we did was quite the same as what we did on our first day of the zoo guide training course. We listened to their talks on this property, morning tea and a tour around the sanctuary by the guides there.

A sanctuary is so different from a zoo. The animals exhibits are spreaded out and sometimes feel more like bush walking. Over here, there are only native Australian animals and they are also more active. I finally can see platypuses and wombat on the move! So cuteee! Whereas in the zoo, I can only see the wombats sleeping in the burrow and hardly ever see the platypus coming out.

This is the Australian Wildlife Health Centre. The moment I stepped in, I fell in love with this place immediately. Inside was so nice and grand. Although it is not a very big building, but this centre includes vet checks and surgery, post mortem, care of rescued wildlife, etc. There's even a tv showing how they carry out a surgery. At that time, the video I saw was a vet applying stitches on an animal. So yeng! :D

Then, we went to to see the bird show. That keeper was actually having an owl on his hand.

This is the brown falcon. Just showing that they also prey on snakes in the wild.

One of my favourite birds of prey, the wedged tail eagle. So big.

The spot where I was standing was a lucky spot. The eagle flew twice to this spot and it was just beside me. Haha. I can feel the wind when it flapped its wings and flew away. So yeng! How I wish I can get a chance to have one landing on my hand. xD

The popular Australian icon. So active grabbing the leaves and eat. Super cute!

There should be a toilet roll here but obviously it's lost. "Someone is desperate, stolen the loo paper." quoted by one of my senior. Lol.

Dingo! So cute! Feel like bringing it back home and play with my doggies. Haha.

Haha. These two so funny. Sleeping with one leg.

These are their true faces. By the way, they are brolgas or Australian cranes. They are quite big in size.

Overall, it was a nice trip. It would have been better if it wasn't raining and freezing. Next trip will be to Werribee Open Range Zoo! Please be a nice sunny day.

Zoo Graduation

Finally, the 10th Sunday has arrived. It's time for my assessment in the zoo. The first part was tour guiding. We can choose an area in the zoo to do our 1 hour tour. I've chosen the African Rainforest Precinct (gorillas!! :D) and the Wildseas Precinct for backup. Sometimes I felt a bit nervous and lost some of the facts that I wanted to say and also made my english even more cacated. @@"

The second part of the assessment has taken the whole afternoon. This part required us to talk to the visitors. We did this at 5 different locations and 25 minutes each location. It was so much tougher than doing a tour, especially I was being watched and assessed. Can feel the pressure. Pengsan... I guess my eyes were like a predator looking for preys, hungry for visitors. Not only visitors, I was hungry for NICE visitors, to be precise. I always hesitate for a long time if I am to approach people like this. What happened was I looked at them for a few minutes and kept thinking: 'talk to them, talk to them, talk to them, JUST TALK!!!' In the end, they walked away. @@.

Really have to learn to choose visitors. The people that I approached in that 3 hours were:

20% thinking: 'who are you to talk to me?!' (because I didn't have a uniform);
20% being very mean (made the 25 minutes feel like 25 years x.x);
30% just being nice and gave me one-word reply: 'oh' (at least they said thank you in the end, better than nothing);
30% that were seriously very nice to chat with (just any one of them can already make my day, I think I should be the one who thank them. haha. :D).

After that second part, I was very exhausted. Glad that it's all over. The reults? I PASSED!! Woohoo~~ The trainers were very happy with all of us. In the evening, they've got a small party for us. This is my classroom where I spent the past 10 Sundays and I will miss it after that.

These cupcakes were so nice! I only had two. Should have grabbed more. :p

One of my classmate made this big beautiful card for our trainers and 31 of our names were signed on it.

They also made a gorilla cake for the trainers and they were very surprised. So cute. Lol. Wouldn't want to cut it.

The trainers, who have produced that encyclopedia-like guide manual. They have taken good care of us throughout the course. :D

I am now an official guide in the zoo! Yay!

Finally, a class photo. The 2011 batch! So many of us until a few of them can't fit into the picture. Aiks. But maybe the main camera was able to capture all of us. Omg, I looked like a little girl in the picture. Swt!!

Who is coming to the zoo?? I'm happy to take them around!! :DDD
