I've returned to blogging. Starting fresh :) My old posts were mostly about Vegetarian stuff.... and well, I'm a full fledged carnivore nowadays so again... starting fresh.
I would like to write my first post in honor of disliking crock pots. In my opinion they are an abomination to cooking and well... actual flavor. For example, today I made BBQ chicken. But after 4 hours, I ended up with bland chicken in BBQ water that smelled like ketchup. Where as in the oven it would have been caramelized goodness. I don't get it. Yes, I suppose it aims for convenience... but I feel like it completely sacrifices flavor. I like to saute my garlic and onions for example... not boil them for hours. A few people have said you need to brown your meat before putting it into a crock pot. Does this not defeat the purpose of "convenience"? I'm not sold, and would much rather interact while cooking. Maybe sip a glass of wine while I grill my steak.. not slop raw meat and vegetables in an electric pot and leave it on for 8 hours.
I will put my crock pot back up in the cabinet and maybe pull it out in another 3 years after it collects dust.
First world problems :)
