I'm still alive. I think.

so I haven't been posting much. I would like to say that I have been too busy with school to post. That would, of course, be a lie :) I have just been lazy. so heres what's going on with me:
Took my EMT-Intermediate written and practicals, passed my practicals and I will get the results of the written tomorrow *fingers crossed*. I am scheduled for the state test next Monday and hopefully it goes well.
Medical Terminology has been a ton of fun and I have that final next Tuesday.
Math 990 has been the most frustrating class by far, but I am enjoying it a lot. I surprised myself by how well I understand it, but that stuff is tedious. Soooo tedious. My teacher for math is awesome, she has a no BS attitude and pushes us hard but it has been nice, on my EMT test I was able to do the math very quickly and confidently because my math teacher had been so intense. I would recommend her to anyone!
Lately I have had friends and family tell me I dont have any pictures available, and I know you all love my ugly mug so here goes:

That's an old picture from bandage day in EMT-B class. it may look like a turban but it really is just a head wrap :D

Room sweet room!

Carpet... Check!
Coving... Check!
Painting... Check!
Repaired bed... Check!
TV... Hernia! and check :D (it was very very heavy.)

Everything is back in it's place mostly. I finally feel like I'm finished with my NYC trip. I haven't slept in my room on my bed since we got back but now I am! I think life will feel more settled down now and school will be easier to focus on!

You may all cheer now.

Identity crisis

I was waiting for math to start, and was sitting in the hallway reading flash cards and listening to NPR. 3 things are weird for me about that:
1) I was actually excited about getting into class
2) I was studying
3) I was listening to NPR. not music, or book on tape. just NPR.
so now I have to ask "who am I?" :P

Extra Life 2010

For the past 2 years I have participated in a fundraiser called Extra Life. It is a 24 hour gaming marathon (a great excuse to play games and not feel bad about it). I have started late each year and have not raised much money, this year I am starting early and need your help!
Go here to donate if you can. If you want to participate, me and my buddies will be doing an Extra Life team you can join if you want!

racism

I am embarrassed and outraged to see this kind of hate in Utah. People are terrified now. This is a hate crime and the people who sent it are nothing but monsters. It makes me pretty mad to see that there are people around here who would try to deny someone a chance at a great life.
I guarantee I am gonna make friends mad with this post, but deal with it.

Fishing Trip

I took T and J out fishing a couple weeks ago, it was awesome! I caught the first fish of the day and it flopped right out of the net and started flopping down the hill to the water, J bumped it over to T, who caught it and got it back in the net! it was great teamwork!
J was pretty content to just sit back and chill, running over with the net when we needed it, it was very cute!
Let me know if you want the pics!

Practically Certified

I took my EMT practical test on the 22nd. During the exam you are supposed to assess for injury to the genitals. In class I would always say 'is your junk ok?' I would say it as a joke but during the test I almost said it but I caught myself and instead I said "how's your penis?" the patient was a woman.
Oh yeah, I got the results and passed!

The most valuable lessons

In EMT, one of our instructors, Nick has taught me 3 things that I thought were hilarious:
1. Stupid hurts, dont feel sorry for some idiot who hurts himself.
2. The best patients are unconscious. Always.
3. Most paramedics would think it's funny to do a little jig while you are doing CPR, but DON'T do it. it makes the families mad.

Also, I've decided that I need to develop a god complex if I plan on making it as a paramedic (so I fit in better). Any suggestions on how to do that?

Me, David, and the 'rat' from hell...

On December 12, a day that will live in infamy, I went to help my bro David un-clog his shower drain cause I'm an awesome brother. also the alternative was cleaning at mom and dad's house and, well, not gonna happen.
Anywho we find that the clog is in one of the main pipes, backing up everything in the house except the toilet. The bathtub was full of water. not clean happy water, but the kind of water that happens when you run a snake through the drain. So my brother got me a garbage can, it was probably a 10 gallon can and had me hold it under the piece of pipe we needed to undo and he unscrewed it.
In the next 5 minutes, I learned 6 things:
1 Water is HEAVY. not just a little heavy. VERY HEAVY.
2 when you open a valve like that, there is no way to close it while water is pouring out.
3 when you try to put the valve back together, water will get everywhere.
4 I can't run up a flight of stairs while carrying 10 gallons of water.
5 when I manage to get the water to the top of the stairs, don't drop the bucket just because I'm outside. it will splash up in my face and in my mouth and all over the clothes I took out of the dryer hours before.
6 NEVER BE THE POOR SUCKER HOLDING THE BUCKET

When we were letting the water pour into the bucket, I was getting nervous that it wouldn't be enough. we were so determined to make it work though. at one point it was a conversation like the one from episode 4 where the pilots are talking about how they need to leave and the other one is saying 'stay on target...'

We finally got all the water drained and started to pull out what looked like a little clog, as we pulled it out, it just kept coming. by the time we had it all the way out, we thought it was actually a dead rat. Upon further inspection, it was just hair, but still, eeeew...
Pics of the clog from hell:
this was when we were starting to pull out the clog. I was a little disgusted, but ok with it.
that is the actual clog. it just kept on coming and coming. eeeeew. At this point I was throwing up in my mouth.

Update

Hey everybody! I'm sure you've missed my awesomeness so I thought i'd give you an update. it's been a very long time so i'm sure i'll miss stuff.

I had to vacate my apartment and move back in with mom and dad (Joe Allred is getting married!)
I started school again, I'm taking 13 credits in 2 classes! crazy, right?
Math is easy and my teacher reminds me of Mr. Miyagi. except she's a girl. So ima call her Mrs. Miyagi in all future posts.
EMT class is brutal but very fun! I am learning a lot and loving it!

That's pretty much all you need to know about me lol.

Academia

So it's been a while, sorry everybody!
I am putting this post up to raise awareness for Academia. Growing up in Orem/Provo territory, I've always been aware of academia, I just never thought it was a big deal. Did you know that 63% of High School grads end up contracting academia and most of them will keep that problem for life? it is a very real problem.
So next time your at a party and that textbook starts getting passed around, remember that you run the risk of contracting academia every time you open a book, and the danger is even greater when you share books. Did you know that if you have academia and you share a book with someone who doesn't have it, they have a very high chance of getting it too?
Let's raise Academia awareness in 2010!
(I understand that we are in a free country and that as an adult, it's your choice. But please, if you study, do it responsibly. Also, if you want to share a book with someone, make sure you have both been tested negative for academia.)
