Today marked an incredible event for me! I am not a reader and I lack consistency in many things I do. But tonight, we, as a family, finished reading the entire Old Testament! 1184 pages! It has taken us 2.5 years.
Looking back: as a teen I actually read my scriptures constantly. I love the scriptures. I always just read the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants. I think I even tackled the Pearl of Great Price once as well. I started the New Testament, but never finished. Brad and I read the Book is Mormon together as we dated and finished shortly after we got married. But it fizzled.
Year after year, we tried to pick it back up, but continued to fail at consistency.
Until 6 years ago. Bishop Rupp encouraged the entire congregation to read the scriptures everyday that year; To hit 100%. We set out to work on that and missed one day in July, but that's all! Same thing the next year, and the next, next, next and next! We have missed less than 10 days of family scripture study in the last 6 years! We have read the Book of Mormon twice, the D&C, Pearl of Great Price and now the Old Testament! I am really excited about it! We will start the New Testament tomorrow, which I'm really excited about because it's about Christ's birth and Christmas is right here ♡

How to make a pancake.
I'm laying in bed, sick. Bryan runs me up a plate of food and serves it to me. Breakfast in bed, I'm such a lucky girl. Brad had made waffles for breakfast. That's when it hit me- a trickle of sweet, simple memories from my past:
I remember Saturday mornings my dad would mix up a batch of Bisquick and make us pancakes or waffles. He generally liked to sit at the dining room table facing the beautiful mountain view we had out the window. The kids all gathered around the griddle, talking and watching him cook, while mom got to sleep in a little. He would include us and teach us about how to know when the pancakes were cooked in the middle. The bubbles would pop and if the batter filled in the hole, don't flip it, it's not ready. When the bubbles in the batter popped and the hole remained in the pancake, it was time to flip. You could also watch for the edges to get wrinkles. That was another sign that it was time to flip.
I remember with waffles - my dad would poor the batter onto the iron with perfection. He knew the perfect amount to pour and where to pour it to get the perfect waffle. I remember watching the edges to see if any batter pooped out of the iron and teasing him about it. We always made sure we ate the hanging edges as soon as the waffles were done, so it looked like a perfect waffle on the stack of other perfect waffles. When we ate, I liked mine plain and cold and not the one touching the plate. My dad, on the other hand, liked syrup on his waffles. He would make sure that every dip in the waffle pattern had syrup.
I love my dad and am so grateful for the simple, special moments in my childhood. I feel so blessed for having a father that took the time to make these memories. My kids have such a fantastic grandpa!

Day-cation to Jackson!
Super fun family day in Jackson! Well.... most of the day we were in the car, but Jackson was the one stopping place. We did drive up to Wilson as well to see where our distant relative, Nicholas Wilson, settled. Beautiful place. Beautiful drive! We had to eat at Bubba's. It's my favorite restaurant AND Jared has an imaginary friend named Bubba-so it was perfect! I love my family so much!

Spelling Bee 2016!
Earlier this week Hyrum won first place for his school Spelling Bee! Holy cow it was intense! Little did I know it was nothing compared to what happened tonight!
Tonight they had the District Spelling BeeIt was an über anxious 2.5 hours! They RAN OUT OF WORDS! The last four spellers surpassed the lists. This was super hard on those final four. They were given random words they didn't get a chance to study. Hyrum got out on the word congruent and the winner won with the word mentality. Hyrum earned SECOND PLACE! We are super proud of him! Hyrum even got the word "marathon" and looked over at me and smiled as they read the definition. It was my favorite part ♡
Congrats Hyrum!
A new smile
9.5 and he finally lost his teef:) This nice GAP O SIS grin just melts my heart! And Paul let me pull it out! It was my first time pulling out a tooth successfully!
