In 2007, Skyler was a Senior in High School and at that point I could apply to serve in the Dallas Temple as a Volunteer.  I was able to serve at the Family File Desk to answer the phone and to do secretarial things. I loved helping the patrons that came in and I loved serving the Ordinance Workers. After several years, I was invited to be an Ordinance Worker and I have loved that ever since.  We are getting a new Temple Presidency this week and I wanted to remember each of the Temple Presidents that I have had the pleasure to serve with.  President Alleman and his dear wife are going to be our new Temple Presidents. I LOVE the temple  Friday mornings are  my favorite day of the week. I love serving my Heavenly Father in his Holy Home.

 Our Mansfield Thiots

Brooklyn Ann Thiot is a Sophomore in High School this year.  Oh my goodness!  Sky and I got to talk to her after school on Wednesday while she was sitting on the bus.  We asked what her favorite class was and she said choir although on the first day there was no singing but just going over the rules and dynamics of the class.  Her schedule is A and B which makes it a little complicated to know which classes you are going to each day.  For her foreign language credit, she picked American Sign Language.  I'm so excited for her to have that experience.  I've always been interested and I'm thrilled for her.  Go Brooklyn!
Addison is beginning her 8th Grade year and oh my goodness, she is ready for this fun year.  She's at the same school as last year which helps her feel comfortable in her surroundings.  Way to go Addison!

Harper just started 5th Grade and she's in a different school from last year.  It's called intermediate school and I simply love this picture that their friend Robyn took of her the night before school started.  What a fun spot for school pictures.  Harper's school is a Language Arts school and she is going to excel I'm sure!
The girls chose some f un school shoes for Mom Mom's birthday this year.  They went for the animal print which is quite popular this year.  I think they will be running faster than ever in those cheetah's and leopards.  Love those shoes and you girls!

On the Hook Fish and Chips is  a popular Food Truck that Ricky tried this weekend.  Dick and I tried it a couple of weeks ago and gave it two thumbs up.  If you see it on the corner, pull over and get in line.  The line is worth it.  Ricky has been traveling a bunch as of late.  He took a trip to Houston this week and I have to say, I love his road trips when he has time to call his mom and we can catch up.  I loved our time on the phone. Ricky is flying to Salt Lake for business tonight and my family is gathering to meet up with him and catch up.  That makes me happy!

Our Medford Granges

A quick weekend trip to the coast was enjoyed by all.  I love seeing Simon with his bucket hunting for treasure.  What a beautiful place.
Gracie loves hunting for rocks and filling up her purple bucket with them.  What a fun trip
I'm looking at the guy up on the big rock.  Yikes, I hope that's not one of my grandchildren.  Miss Penny is finding some treasure on safer ground.
Tatia's has always loved to photograph flowers and the sea side.  Oh that makes my heart want to sing.  Soo pretty!
Hold to the Rod on the covenant path!  I love seeing the flowers, the pathway and the seaside and the gorgeous sky!
The four big Granges who have been working hard to earn movie tickets.  The new Pets and the Super Heros movie was enjoyed by all.  Now that Charlie is 5, he got to earn his ticket too.  What a thrill! They all loved it.  This is their last week of Summer vacation.  School begins in Oregon on the 29th of August!  Enjoy every day you cute kids!

Our Folsom Thiots

Lilly was the last of the Folsom Thiot's to return to school. I can't believe she's a Jr in High School. I just heard and I need to find out if its true, that she attends the same school as my sisters Granddaughter Libbie Cline.  How fun would that be if those two met each other and could be friends.  That would make this Grammy smile!  Lilly said her first week was great but kind of boring.  Hopefully that part will end and the great fun will begin with lots of learning.  She looks so much like her mama Jen.  A very fun person to look like!

Our Orem Thiots

This was the week that Orem Schools went back!  These two have been so excited to start 3rd Grade for Adelaide and 1st Grade for Jackson.  You are going to notice Mister Squirrel also went back to school.  He promised to stay out of sight and not be a distraction at school.  That makes me smile.
These two are sporting their new school shoes from Mom Mom too.  What a fun way to remember her on her birthday.  Mom Mom loved shoes and Loved kids to wear shoes that fit and were comfortable.
This weekend, the Orem Thiot's packed up their awesome new cabin on wheels and headed to Lake Powell for an incredible adventure.

These red cliffs are magnificent.  I love what fun adventures they had this weekend.  They may have had a bit more than they bargained for when a flash flood came up on the way home.  We are so grateful for Pierce's good driving skills and for the protecting care of our Heavenly Fathers care. YIKES!
Our Upstairs Thiots

On Monday, Elinor started Kindergarten.  She has been so excited and was so well prepared.  I'm so happy that she loved school.  She's amazing! She's in a school that speaks both English and Spanish.  She's a great counter in Spanish and is looking forward to learning to speak spanish.  She told me last week that she would like to be called Elinor.  I've called her Miss Elie since she was born.  She said I can still call her that but that she prefers Elinor.  How I love you Elinor!

I got to go with Sky on Wednesday for his Daddy Day with Elinor.  The car pool lane is LONG but it's so worth it to wait in the heat for 45 minutes to see that sweet girl.
She had the idea of a science project of taking a white crayon and white paper and then water with food coloring to paint over the crayon and it magically appeared what we had drawn.  So fun!  Elinor has fun ideas and we love trying out her ideas.

We Plano Thiots

August 18th was the day Mom Mom was born 104 years ago this week.  We loved thinking about her all day long and thinking of all the good memories we have.  She passed away the April before Skyler was born in 1988.  She knew he was coming and was thrilled to have a 5th Grandchild.  I can only imagine how thrilled she must be watching her 17 Great Grandchildren.  They are all wearing school shoes thanks in part to Mom Mom.  How we love her and miss her.

I love this Prayer for the First Day of School.  It's just what Grammy's pray for all their little Grandchildren going off to school.  Know you are loved y'all, Robynn

Saying Good-bye to Our Aunt Betty

Thursday, August 18, 2022

On May 10, 2022, Dick and I followed a prompting and had the most sweet Tender Mercy of the Lord.  Aunt Betty who married our Uncle Charlie in 1984  has lived in Spokane Washington since Uncle Charlie's passing in 2005.  We've always talked about going to visit her and Uncle Charlie's girls.  We were visiting Tatia's family in Medford, Oregon and took a day trip to Spokane.  What a wonderful morning we spent with Charlies girls and a marvelous afternoon with Aunt Betty and her daughter Connie. Tatia had helped me embroider some hankies for Aunt Betty.  We loved doing that together.
This is Uncle Charlie and our Charlie named after him.  They had a very sweet relationship and we so loved him.  When Uncle Charlie remarried after his wife Bonnie passed away in 1983, Aunt Betty joined our family and we have loved her ever since.

These are Charlie's Girls as Aunt Betty Lovingly called them.  Betty had 4 Daughters and Charlie had 3 daughters.  They loved all 7 of these girls

Here are 3 of Betty's girls and one granddaughter standing in for the  missing daughter.

One of the many things Aunt Betty was known for was making home made fabric on paper cards.  I have many that she has sent to our family over the years.  She would chooses the funnest fabrics and very carefully and perfectly cut out the images and glue them onto the cards.  They are treasures for sure.  She was so good to remember EVERYONE in our family and shower them with love and a two dollar bill on birthdays.

I love these picture of Aunt Betty sitting in her comfy chair where she spent much time in her last few months of life.
Betty's daughter Carol is an amazing quilter and made a quilt for Betty for each season of the  year to hang on her wall or to snuggle with.

Betty's grandchildren were a treasure to her and  this is a few of them.

Aunt Betty used to come to Dallas for Thanksgiving each year to visit with her daughter Cindy who lived in Prosper, not too far from us.  We often would get to enjoy her company when she came. I love this picture Tatia took with her Penny and Aunt Betty.
Tatia really captured Aunt Betty in this photo.  I think if there was a photo in the dictionary under the word JOY, this picture would be placed right next to that word.

Aunt Betty Loved Gonzaga Basketball.  I loved that she loved to wear her shirt while watching ballgames with her daughter Connie, also a loyal fan.
When it was finally time to say goodbye and realize it was time for Betty to go home to be with Jesus, it was hard but she was so ready to go.  I was so very glad Dick and I were able to be there in May to let her know how much we love her and have learned from her kind and caring ways. August 9, 2022 at 10:30 pm, she went to be with Jesus and those loved ones who have preceded her in death.  We love you Aunt Betty.  She will have a graveside celebration this afternoon.  You have a permanent reserved parking place in our hearts forever.  Until we meet again!

BETTY THIOT OBITUARY

Went to be with Jesus of natural causes at the age of 97 on August 9, 2022. She was born in November 15, 1924 in Anaconda, Montana to Harold A. Nicol and Mary L. Shults Nicol.

The family moved to Missoula, Montana in 1935. Betty was active in High School Band and Orchestra, playing her cornet and was a member of Rainbow Girls, bugled taps at Campfire Camp for 10 years and also, for burial services for World War II boys. She graduated from MSU (now U of M) in 1946 where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

She met and married the love of her life, Jack F Cuthbert, on June 1, 1946. Jack was former MSU student body president and present manager of the MSU Student Cafeteria. To Jack's delight, they had 4 daughters. She was a busy stay-at-home Mom, but always available for her girls. They loved to entertain family and friends, float their 8-man raft in Montana rivers, and fish. Always made extra income from doing projects for MSU and filled Stamp Machines around town.

The family moved to Spokane Valley, WA in 1960. Betty was in Campfire for 22 years (leader for at least, 2 years for each daughter). Active in Tri Delta Alum, DD.PEO played in 2 bridge clubs, and was secretary for Jack, in his Mutual Funds business. She had a hand printing machine, that she printed foil names on napkins and cards. Betty loved animals and it was normal to see a rabbit hopping through their home or a small alligator in one of many aquariums. Often you would find them entertaining in their boat, skiing, and fishing on lakes in the area. They bought a condo in New Smyrna Beach, Florida in 1970.

Betty's Jack went to be with Jesus on May 14, 1978. She continued to winter in Florida with her Mother Mary and friends. She added ordering Wedding Invitations to her little printing business.

On February 28, 1984, she married longtime business and family friend Charles H Thiot. He was originally from Florida, so they enjoyed times with many family members, and his 2 homes in Key Largo and Punta Gorda. They always laughed while entertaining and fishing the Atlantic Ocean and waterways. Charlie passed on March 11, 2005. Betty moved into Broadway Court Estates Retirement home in Spokane Valley, WA where she lived for 17 years. Became involved in all their activities, church, crafts, swimming, playing hand and foot cards, and many fun trips. Crocheted hundreds of hats for the YMCA and newborns at local hospitals. Made quilts for each grandchild and jackets with fabric designs. How many of you received one or more of her "fabric on paper" cards, maybe $1 within? Huge Gonzaga fan and still active in PEO making so many new forever friends.

Blessed to travel from Greece to Australia with hundreds of stops in between, making more friends. She loved the Lord and being with her family grew to 41 and was her joy. She sent out "74 years of Christmas photo letters" to the family and friends she loved, which left a wonderful family history.

In her last six months, she lived at "At Home Now". And like always before, made new friends with the owners and caregivers. They loved her and cried with us on her passing.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, 2 brothers, 2 sisters-in-law, and 1 brother-in-law. Survived by 4 daughters, Connie (Cary) Powers, Carol (Dave) Sather, Cathy (Doug) Bruce, Cindy (Tony) Elenburg, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

Pall Bears Andy Sather, Ryan Sather, Taylor Elenburg, Jim D'Agostino, Scott Goodwin, and Gabe Smith.

Burial August 18, 2022, 12:30 PM at Pines Cemetery, 16th, and Pines, behind Mausoleum south side. Celebration of Life at 1:30 PM for refreshments at Darcy's Restaurant West entrance at University City Mall, University and Sprague. Come to share memories and videos of Betty.  Our Mansfield Thiots

This has been a great summer for the Mansfield Thiots, plenty or travel and lots of family time together.  I'm so happy for them.  Becky and the girls took a last quick trip to Florida for to spend a long weekend with Becky's parents and the girls loved the beach time again.  We loved meeting up at Chuy's for a delicious dinner together to say goodbye to summer and get ready for Back to school! Monday is the day these three girls return.

Our Medford Granges

The big three kidos took 3 weeks of summer school and are finished.  They now have a few weeks until school starts back up.  They are enjoying as many pool days as they can when the smoke isn't too smokey.  Charlie boy turned 5 on Tuesday and what a fun birthday boy he is.  He had friends over for a swim and hot dogs and burgers on the grill.  I loved getting to face time with him.  Happy 5th Birthday to  Charlie Boy!

Our Folsom Thiots

The Folsom Thiots had a wonderful, magical week at Disneyland ALL Together.  I LOVED getting pictures from them all week and they  always put a giant smile on my  face.  Now it's back to school.  Liam and Ewan were the first to head back and Callum and Keelie were next and Lilly will be the last to head back.  So glad you had a great last week of summer all together!!!!

Our Orem Thiots

What a great summer it's been for our Orem Thiots.  They loved hosting the Mansfield Thiots for a week and the kids had a great time being together.  They have really enjoyed their new Cabin on wheels and have  loved driving up the canyon for some great campouts.  What fun it was  to face time with them last weekend during a camp out.   Loved it!  Adelaide and Jackson head back to school on the 17th of August.  Won't  be long!

Our Upstairs Thiots

Elinor was invited to her friend Ella's birthday party on Tuesday.  It was a science party and was right up Elinor's alley.  She and her  daddy love to do science experiments together.  We had a great time at the party and she and Graypa loved practicing her bike riding skills afterwards. Elinor's first day of Kindergarten is on Monday.  She is way excited!

Skyler tested positive for COVID and is quarantining upstairs.  It's not fun at all having to stay away from him.  We are hoping he has turned the corner and can start feeling better and test negative really soon.  We've done so good at avoiding that nasty  bug.  Hopefully Graypa and I can keep away.

We Plano Thiots

This has been a couple of busy weeks and I've gotten behind on Thiot Times.  Instead of trying to remember, I'm just moving on ahead.  Dick has been incredibly busy at work and can almost see a light at the end of the tunnel.  He said if he can survive this weekend, we can do anything.  Fingers crossed.

I wrote this last week, when I was attempting to catch up and just put this in here.  A bit out of sequence before Sky was sick.  Friday is one of my  most favorite days of the week.  I have served in the Dallas Temple on Friday mornings since Skyler was a senior in high school.  I get to be there early and I have not yet in all those 15 years, had a moment when I wished I didn't have to get up to go.  This Friday was no different.  I had many sweet experiences in the temple, but perhaps my best one was on my way home.  I had volunteered to help clean our Family History Center with some of the other Family History Librarians at 1:00.  It would be perfect to stop on my way home.  We dusted and vacuumed and moved the furniture back where it needed to be and left a little after two o'clock.  I had a feeling to stop at Taco Bueno and grab some party burritos for Skyler.  I thought of calling him and asking but was afraid he might say no thankyou and I thought if I handed him a bag of burritos with some firehouse salsa, he might be happy and enjoy them.  I got into the drive through line and placed my order and then turned the corner to pay and lo and behold, there was a white Volvo in front of me in the line just picking up his order, I thought, that looks like Sky's car.  Sure enough, Sky had the same idea of running to Taco Bueno for burritos.  We both had the same inspiration at the same time.  Who would have thought?  I loved it and the cashier was kind enough to cancel my order as not anyone could eat six party burritos. Kind of a funny coincidence.  Have a great week ya'll.  Stay well, and know you are loved. SLY Robynn
