Our Mansfield Thiots
Ricky began the week sick sick sick.  He said he hadn't felt that bad for a long time.  After spending several days in bed, he felt well enough to return to week and was well enough to enjoy Brooklyn's birthday celebration on Thursday and Friday.  For months she has been planning this special celebration of turning 10 years old.  That is one decade old and she was thrilled.  She wanted to have a sleep over at the Great Wolf Lodge and invited her best friend to come and Dick and I were on the invite list too.  Her California Grandparents also were able to come and what a  great time we all had together.  There is an indoor water park at the GWL and on a chilly January day, it was just the right kind of celebrating that we needed.  Addison and Harper got to bunk in with Dick and I and we loved it.  Sky and Kara came for  the water park on Thursday night but didn't spend the night.  Sky returned via the orange line train the next morning as Kara had to be at school.  It was such a fun time. Lots of good memories made.  There is a lazy river and I went down it not knowing there were lots of chances to get squirted with water.  I was so hoping to keep my hair dry and Brooklyn said to me when I was complaining a bit, "Grammy, what did you expect, this is a WATER park. "  She was right and I got over it and enjoyed my self.  Thanks for inviting us Brooklyn! Becky is sure a fun party planner.  We all enjoyed her yummy cinnamon rolls she  made for breakfast.  YUMMY!


Our Charlottesville Granges
When I hadn't heard from the "Breakfast Club" on Monday morning, I called them.  Little did I know they were having their third monday in a row out of school.  It was not a snow day like the first one was.  It was not Martin Luther King's Birthday, it was a Teacher Work Day and when I called they were all snuggled up in Tatia's bed enjoying a little extra time together.  I loved it.  The Granges had a visit from Uncle Ben this week.  They got to show him the sights of Charlottesville and then enjoyed being spoiled by him for a yummy dinner and dessert!  The week picked up steam as it went along and Tatia was preparing for two baby showers on Saturday.  She loves to give home made gifts and made two of her darling diaper wipe cases and then was in the mood to make a doll for the new little baby girl that was coming.  Doll making is a gene she got from her Gram who loved making dolls.  This one turned out especially cute and I have a feeling was a little tough to give away.  She did promise Miss Penny that she might want to make her one for her birthday later this spring.  What fun!
Our Carmichael Thiots
Like Ricky, Charlie has been feeling under the weather too.  He had a business trip on Thursday-Saturday where he had to fly to Seattle for a training class.  I was glad he felt well enough to go and that he is feeling better.  Seattle is a fun place for a trip and he was happy he had an open evening to go visit a buddy of his who had recently moved to Seattle.  Good Times! Keelie had an extra fun Activity Day meeting with her Primary Class this week.  I was so happy when Charlie forwarded me a photo of the cookie baking night.  I am guessing that they made scripture cookies like we did last week,.  I love to pretend that my girls, Brooklyn and Keelie are in my Activity Day group.  It's fun doing the same kind of things with my Primary girls.

Our LA Thiots
Our Traveling Pierce returned home to a very HAPPY Adelaide, Stacy and Jackson this weekend.  He is quickly becoming quite the world traveler and is doing really well at getting to where he needs to go and finding his way back home again.  Stacy and the kids miss him but are happy for his adventures and job.  The ad agency just picked up the Diet Coke account, so I am sure their are great things coming down the road for Diet Coke! We had a quick face time call while we were at Sky's home from the LA Thiots from Disney Land.  They picked up Pierce at the airport and headed to the happiest place on earth for the afternoon!  What fun!!!!!!

Our Down Town Thiots
It was extra fun getting to spend time this week with Kara and Skyler.  They made everything more fun when they are there.  We loved meeting them for dinner on Saturday night with Dick's cousin Heather who was in town on business from Macon Georgia.  Her dad, Pat Shafer is Dick's first cousin.  He died just a few months before Dick's mother passed away. She and her sister Winslow and her brother Brett are three amazing people who we love a lot.  She enjoyed getting to see Sky and Kara's fun home and she too loved the view of down town from their place.  Thanks for your hospitality Sky and Kara.  We  missed having Ricky's family join us but they had other plans they couldn't change.

We Plano Thiots
This has been a very fast week, that means each day was filled with things that made the time seem to fly faster than usual.  I loved thinking of Brooklyn this week and making her birthday gift.  She has loved her easy bake oven she got for Christmas two years ago, but it has worn out.  I thought with turning ten and all that it might be fun to make her a Baking Kit.  We called it Brooklyn's Bakery and Tatia and Pammy helped me make darling vinyl lettering to go on the box, on her mixer and on her apron too.  Tatia and Pammy are a great team even 1200 miles apart.  Tatia designs, and Pammy cuts and I press them on.  She was happy with the results.  I remember my mom doing some similar for me when I turned 10 and I still have the hand mixer today.  That is a 50 year old mixer and it still goes like crazy.  Brooklyn was hoping to make muffins for Breakfast on Sunday.  I can't wait to hear how they turned out.  YUMMY!

Saturday at 11:00 was the funeral service for our dear friend Mary Taylor or Mama Taylor as everyone called her.  Five of her Eleven Children spoke the other six helped with the  music, and the prayers at he service and at the graveside as well.  At the cemetery, they carried on a Taylor Family tradition of counting off.  !, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.  Emily shared that when they went somewhere together, they would have to count off to be sure nobody was left behind.  It was extra tender as number two had passed away last October. When they started the count, his oldest son, named after him, spoke right up "Number 2"  What a Marvelous Mother Mary Taylor is.  She taught and trained her family well. She must be so proud of each one of them as she watched them yesterday.  I was so amazed how happy they were that their parents were back together again and that their Mother wasn't so lonesome for he sweet husband any more.
Saturday was also the Family Discovery Day for our Stake.  What a lot of people and a lot of time went into planning and carrying off such a fun day to help our community learn more about discovering their family History.  Our Activity Day girls had made Gingerbread men out of felt and made flags from all over the world to have them hold and then I hooked them up together in a bunting and we strung them up in the room where we got to play games with the children who came to help them know more about their families.  Dick was a big help in hanging them up and they looked good.
It's been so fun to have Cousin Heather here with us.  We picked her up at her hotel yesterday afternoon and we had some time before dinner.  We gave her a choice of going to the Dallas World Aquarium or to the Sixth Floor Museum which explains all about the Kennedy assasination 51 years ago.  She said she's been to lots of aquariums but had never been to the Sixth Floor Museum.  It's a very well done presentation and it was nice to be there.  Thanks for coming Heather and for planning to spend some time with us.  We loved it and we LOVE YOU!

Our Mansfield Thiots
For Christmas RIcky gave Dick two tickets to the Mavericks vs JAZZ Basketball game on January 20th.  Dick has been looking forward to it all month and it turned out even better than they hopped unless you happened to be cheering for the Dallas Mavericks.  Let me explain.  Ricky had a coworker who had two extra tickets he offered to Ricky for a great price.  So Ricky invited Sky and Kara to join he and Dick which they did.  The new tickets were not by the old tickets but were right on the ground floor.  WOWSERS  What luck!  Sky and Kara didn't have to look UP to see the players, but were right on the back row and could easily look down if you know what I mean.  Everyone had a fun time and I hope Sky and Ricky both remembered their "HOME TOWN TEAM" the JAZZ!

Lately, Max has been very interested in any thing Banana. He loves to eat bananas, and he loves to say the word bananas, A LOT.  He decided that he would like a banana pillow.  Being the fun mom that Tatia is, they headed to JoAnns, the fabric store and started hunting for banana fabric.  Max decided he would like fabric with monkeys on it, since they too are big banana fans like himself. They found some fleece with monkeys and have been planning this pillow.  I can't wait to see how it turned out. What a fun banana week.  I'm not sure if I have ever written about the Breakfast Club in the Thiot Times.  Nearly every school day morning, my phone rings between 6:20 and 6:40 signaling a Face Time Call from Charlottesville. It's the Breakfast Club calling and we get to visit while they eat breakfast.  There isn't much that can put a giant smile on my face so early as to see those cute kids.  On Thursday the call was a little late and they were nearly ready to walk out the door to take Miss Penny to school.  So I was able to ride to school with them.  Penny ready me one of her reading books for the day.  Oh  my goodness, there is something magical about listening to new readers.  I've loved watching Brooklyn, and Keelie and Addison learn to read and now Penny and Callum.  I love to read and I love that they do too.  Thanks Penny for reading to me on your way to school.

Our Carmichael Thiots
Last Saturday night, for Callum's birthday Eve party, they went Go Carting.  Callum said it was his best day EVER.  I think they all three agreed! Charlie texted Dick this week and said his Jeep tire was on fire.  I panicked until we realized it was a photo Char has captured of the sun setting right on his wheel.  Nice! Charlie had a sick day this week and I'm glad to report he is feeling a bit better.  Fever and body aches are not a good thing for sure.  Thankfully we live in the day of good medicine that can trick your brain into thinking  you feel better.  He was back to work the next day and is doing better.  I'm glad he felt well enough to continue his New Year Resolution of attending the beautiful Sacramento Temple on Thursdays.  He is trying to bring a family name with him each time.  After a great evening of Family history training I attended on Thursday night, I may have some new strategies to help us Char!

Look closely at this photo.  It's the same place, the same guys with just a few years in between. Maybe 12 years in between, Oh how I love those boys, what great men they are. I heard through the grapevine that our Pierce is off to Germany this week for some commercial filming.  He tried to call me yesterday when I was out and about and I wasn't able to return the call. His passport is getting some mighty fun stamps in it already this year.  Viel Glück or Good Luck this week PJ! I had a quick visit with Stacy this week as she was helping me with a project. She is wonderful and I appreciate her help a lot! I heard more raindrops have been falling in LA and I'm sure Adelaide is loving it! I love this picture of the finger painting LA Thiot's this week. Look closely at Adelaide's hair. She's been wishing for purple hair for months now and with a package of koolaide, she is one happy girl! I love how Jackson is looking at Adelaide like she is the coolest thing ever!
Our Downtown Thiots
I hired Sky this week for another Design Project I'm working on.  It's so fun to have his help.  He can turn my ideas into reality and usually with a twist that I wasn't even expecting.  Thank you Sky for helping your mom when she gets into water too deep for her own doing.  I had a message on my phone from Sky this morning asking if he and Kara could stop by today.  Nothing would make me happier.  Thanks again!
We Plano Thiots
My Little brother Jeffrey had his little dog Tucker pass away this week.  What a sad time for Jeffrey. Tucker has been a good buddy for many years now.  We will all miss you Tucker
I often start out my new weeks with a whole list of things that I would like to do and as I finish the week I notice that the "fun" things were done and the other  not so fun things were left to "roll over" to the next week.  I may need to put a change to that and start doing the Not so fun things first and using the fun things as a reward for completing the others.  I felt bad I wasn't able to go to Mansfield this week while I was helping a friend.  I was so pleased to hear that Ricky was able to complete his car repair on his own.  We all know that car things don't always go as easy as they look on You-Tube videos, but I'm glad he got it fixed and that they are a two car family again.  My dad was really proud of Ricky.  Ricky often calls dad for a consult when working on projects and I know that makes dad happy.  He tells Ricky that on the job training is very valuable and you learn a lot.  I am looking forward to seeing the girls this coming Thursday for Brooklyn's 10th Birthday Celebration.  Oh Brooklyn, thank you for giving me my very most favorite name of Grammy!  I'll be celebrating my 10th year of Being a Grandmother!  Yipee!

Dick got a call on friday morning inviting him to play golf.  The weather was close to perfect for January 20th, just a bit of wind but he had a very nice time.  He always comes home more cheerful than usual when he's able to play golf.  I'm glad he has good friends that call and invite him. Saturday was the annual University of Scouting.  Dick was invited to teach at the Commissioners College and especially enjoyed getting to be taught and entertained by Elder Dahlquist who is the Commissioner for Boy Scouts of America.  We loved meeting him when we went to Philmont 10 years ago.  He's great!


It was Activity Day girls this week and we made Scripture Cookies.  Yes you read that right.  No, we did not cut up scriptures, we simply looked up references to find the missing ingredients in the recipe. What a fun evening it was, what a wild group of Activity Day girls I have.  I love each one of them and someday I'm going to figure out how to make it not so wild and crazy.  ugggggggg  suggestions welcome:)



Dick got a phone call on Wednesday from his best friend Jess Taylor giving him some sad news. Jesse's mom, Mary Elizabeth Corbett Taylor passed away early that morning.  We had seen her right after Chrsitmas and gotten one of her wonderful hugs for the last time.  She was truly ready to go home to her Heavenly Father and to reunite with her dear husband who has been gone for 4 years and her sweet son who just passed away in October.  I'm sure there were many happy reunions taking place in heaven.  I'm so glad to have known and loved Sister Taylor.  Dick loves her like a second mother.  She was so good to him and to all of us.  Until we meet again, Sister Taylor, we will be loving you and remembering the goodness that you taught us all.

She was born August 17, 1935, in Washington, D.C., to Don Cecil and Marion Young (Kimball) Corbett. On October 6, 1955 Mary married Jesse Martin Taylor, Jr. in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a 1957 graduate of Brigham Young University, where she majored in English and minored in French. Our Mansfield Thiots
Last Tuesday it worked that I could go to Mansfield in the afternoon and pick up the girls from school.  Harper had a friend over to play and wasn't able to come with me.  I had to remember how to do it all by myself. One of my favorite parts of going to pick up the girls is the hug I get when they come out of school and the surprised look on their faces.  Addison always says, "I knew you were coming Grammy."  I love that too.  They wanted to play on the playground for a few minutes and the weather was lovely and so we did.  Then we came home for our "project".  We made Jolly Pops.  They are succers that you make with Jolly Rancher candies.  Let me tell you how fun and easy they are.  Preheat your oven to 275 degrees.  Unwrap three Jolly Rancher candies of your choice.  Line them up three in a row, touching each other on a cookie sheet which has been covered with foil and then has parchment paper on top of that.  Place them carefully in the oven, they may roll a bit and you may need to put them back in place.  Bake for six minutes and watch to make sure they have melted.  Then remove from the oven and take a sucker stick in and roll it so it's covered in the HOT sucker.  Then let them cool before gobbling them up.  We played the funnest game while they were cooling off.  It's a beach ball that has a different question on each color.  When you toss the ball, you choose the question to answer where your right thumb landed.  We giggled and laughed and I LOVED listening to their sweet answers.  What a fun afternoon!

Our Charlottesville Granges
This was an unusual week in Charlottesville Virginia.  It had snowed over the weekend and on Monday morning, the back roads were still not clear enough for safely navigating school buses down, so it was a SNOW DAY!!!  It was nice to stay in warm PJ's for the day and catch up on some fun shows and play games and just enjoy being home.  On Tuesday it was the same, another SNOW Day. But on this day, Tatia had a different idea of staying in all day.  They planned a trip to the big city of Richmond, Virginia.  It's a bit over an hour away and they were on a mission looking for these new little cars from a Nick Junior Show called Blaze.  Max had borrowed one from his friend Wyatt and decided that he needed one too.  We were looking on line for them and discovered that they are very popular and were sold out in Charlottesville.  This made the trip to Richmond even more fun.  I'm happy to report that they are now the happy owners of 8 of those fun little cars and the kids have loved playing with them this week when ever they have a free minute.  What a fun mom you are Tatia!  I'm glad Richmond had some left!






Our Carmichael Thiots
Today is a wonderful day!  It's Callum Jay's 6th Birthday!  What a blessed Six Years it has been to have him a part of our family.  Callum is our 4th Grandchild and our first Grandson.  He is Keelie's younger brother and is a wonderful kindergarten boy.  His favorite color is orange and he loves all things associated with trains and like his dad is a Lego maniac.  He loves and can spend hours on end building legos.  He is one of the nicest little boys I have ever met.  He is a whole lot like his dad and loves time in the sandbox digging and playing.  He likes to swing on the swing in the back yard and enjoys jumping on the trampoline too.  He learned to ride his two wheel bike last year and he's great at it.  Recently, he learned to ski and loves that too.  He can roller skate like crazy and loves chicken nuggets.  He also loves going to In and Out Burgers for a tasty burger and fries.  Yes, today is a Wonderful Day!  I only wish I was there to celebrate his Six Years with him.  Happy Birthday Callum Jay!

Our LA Thiots
My cell phone rang on Thursday afternoon while I was in the Family History Center and it was Stacy calling with Face Time.  It had rained and rained at their house and Adelaide was out in her darling rain coat and rain boots splashing and having the time of her life.  Even Baby Jackson was out in the stroller covered up and LOVING it!  It doesn't rain that often in LA and it seldom rains that MUCH so this was an extra special treat.  Stacy was so cute and would be the car warning system and Adelaide would come right back across the street when she called CAR!  Oh it was so fun to watch her and everyone at the Family History Center loved seeing them too.  What a fun, fun visit that was. Thank you Stacy, Adelaide and Jackson!  We loved another fun visit on Saturday morning with Pierce and Jackson while the girls were sleeping in a bit.  They were going to do a donut run and surprise the girls.  What a fun Daddy you are PJ!  He has another trip out of town this week, but it will be quick.  Everyone misses him when he goes and are sooooooooo happy when he returns!

Our Down Town Thiots
Friday afternoon Skyler texted me asking if he and Kara could come for a Sleepover on Friday night. They had a trip planned to IKEA and then wanted to go to the movie with us on Saturday morning.  What FUN it was to have them come.  We loved it.  Skyler has been my hero this week helping me with a project of making cards to update Grandpa Great's Baby book.  We were WAY behind with all these new little ones who have come since mom passed away.  It has been fun printing photos of them and Skyler designed and made the new cards.  It's almost done and ready to put in the mail back to dad.  He was a bit apprehensive of me taking the book, but I talked him into trusting me with it.  What mighty cute great grandchildren he as been blessed with.  We had 8 boys in a row and then another little girl.  Gram was trying her best to even out the girls and boys even from heaven.  She has surely sent some great little people to join our family.  Thanks Sky for your help and it was sure great going to Hidden Figures with you and Kara too.  I loved that movie and can't wait to go again.


We Plano Thiots
I'm not sure if Dick and I have ever had a busier week that this one has been.  Most of the business was together which made me happy.  From Scout Meetings, to Nauvoo Meetings, to Wedding Receptions to a movie and lunch out with Sky and Kara to Scout Banquets to dinner with some friends who have moved to timbucktoo.  It's been filled with goodness. I have to say two of my best parts were making Callum's birthday presents.  He had been wishing for a train blanket.  For Christmas I made him a train pillow case and for his birthday I made him a quilt to match it.  It's made of flannel fabric which is so soft and so fun to make.  A friend of mine made a tag to put on it, but didn't get it done before I needed to mail it away.  So next time I come, Callum, I'll bring the tag and sew it on by hand.  I also made a Fort Callum to go over a card table.  I didn't have a card table to model it on so I'm hoping it fit.  Callum said he will call me after church and let me see it.  I can't wait.  There is something so fun about making something for someone.  I always worry that it won't turn out as nice as if I could have bought it, but one thing about it is that a LOT of LOVE goes into making it.  My friend Shirly Boots came over on Tuesday morning and helped me tie the quilt.  She is fast it was almost like having Laurie and Lani there to have her come.  We finished it in under two hours which is good.  I loved telling her all about Callum and what a great little six year old he is.  Oh it was fun.  Last Sunday and again today, I got to dress up like a Pioneer lady and visit each of our Primary's in our stake and help them get excited about our Family History Discovery Day which is coming up on the 28th of this month.  I get to help with the children's games and we have some fun things planned.  GIANT JENGA, Family Twister and the Beach Ball Game I played with Ricky's girls.  So fun!  We were going to make Gingerbread cookies and have the kids decorate them like the country of their ancestors origin.  I'm kind of glad we nixed that part.  Baking 400 gingerbread men may have done me in.  I better go get my bonnet on and get ready to go.  Have a wonderful week ya'll!  SLY Robynn

Our Mansfield Thiots
Last Sunday night, we met Ricky at the Bass Pro Shop Parking lot and picked up 3 little girls for a sleep over and a day of fun on Monday.  We decided to have the sleep over underneath the Christmas tree which has yet to be put away.  It was so fun sleeping in the quillos that my mom had made many years ago and with the quilt my Grandma had made me when I was 3 years old.  It was kind of a Grammy sleepover with lots of good memories.  Monday morning we headed for the Graypa's office and picked him up and then headed to the train station where we got tickets and climbed on board the 9:13 train for down town..  We got off at the West End stop and walked over to the Dallas World Aquarium.  We were the first members to arrive and had the place to ourselves for a while.  We sat in the shark tunnel all by ourselves and LOVED it.  It is usually really crowded so that made it extra fun.  We loved it when Skyler arrived and we went upstairs to watch the otters have breakfast and see a few other favorites.  Then back on the train and over to the Dallas ZOO.  We were not alone at the Zoo.  It was quite crowded but we were able to see our five favorite things we wanted to see.  The new baby elephant who was born in August.  His is now weighing in at 400 pounds up from his birth weight of 175.  We loved watching him and his mama together.  Then we loved feeding the giraffes.  Graypa was kind enough to buy two sets of lettuce leaves for the girls to feed them.  What fun.  We loved seeing the flamingos and the girls loved sitting on the elephant statues.  The weather was lovely and we hoped back on the train and met Kara for lunch at McDonald's.  FUN!!! It was such a fun time with our girls and we hated to take them home, but it was back to school on Tuesday!

Oscar had his first haircut at his Mommy's barber shop this week..  Tatia turned on Daniel Tiger and he sat perfectly still and got a great hair cut. After a good week back to school, Charlottesville had snow arrive on Saturday and it was enough snow for some fun sleigh riding in the front yard.  The kids loved it and loved bundling up in their winter clothes.  When it first started snowing, Penny and Max made snow angels on the deck and were wishing for more snow.  It did not disappoint and they enjoyed it a lot.

Keelie and Callum had an extra week off school and they will return tomorrow.  For Christmas, Keelie received the gift of Piano lessons.  Her first lesson was on Saturday morning and she was so excited.  She got several piano books for Christmas and she can hardly wait until she can play them.  Charlie is hoping he can learn to while Keelie learns.  They are hoping to find a different piano to trace theirs for as it has several keys which don't play and it is in need of too much fixing up to afford.  I hope they can find something that will work better for Keelie to practice on.  Callum had his dream come true on Saturday afternoon.  There was a train show in town and they loved going. Callum was a bit disappointed that he couldn't buy them all to bring home.  I'm glad he loved looking at them and thanks for sending us photos.

Our LA Thiots
Adelaide turned into a Sunbeam last Sunday.  She was thrilled and so ready to be just what Jesus Wants Her to BE! Pierce had a photo shoot in Dallas this week and arrived on Wednesday to prepare for the Thursday shoot.  Thursday afternoon, Dick planned a Father's and Son's lunch at the Simon's sushi place and then Pierce told them the great news that he had gotten passes for his dad and brothers to attend the photo shoot at the Cotton Bowl that night.  Dick and the guys were thrilled and had a great time watching the Dallas Cowboy player who has been such a winner this year, film for the commercial with Pierce.  Dick was most impressed with how Pierce took charge and knew just what to do.  Stacy and the kids were happy to have Pierce come home Friday morning and Adelaide even had a Daddy Daughter Date with him on Friday night.  How fun!

Kara was not quite as excited as all the grandkids to go back to school on Tuesday.  She said she wouldn't have minded another two weeks off.  It's almost time for grades and that means lots of grading to get done.  Not the funnest but the best to have done.  Sky loved going to the shoot with his brothers but had to leave early as he had a project to complete on Friday morning too.


We Plano Thiots
We've had a crazy weather week and they kept forecasting snow for Friday.  I must admit, I was a little hopeful that the temple might be closed and I wouldn't have to worry about making the temple schedule, but Dick assured me, if I didn't make one, it would NOT snow.  I went ahead and created the schedule and Friday morning was cold but clear.  It was a lovely day at the temple.  Forty missionaries came and I'm sure it was their prayers that kept the snow from falling until 1:00 when I walked out the door of the temple.  We had the funniest snow.  It was like little snow pellets which did not stick.  My kind of snow all the way.  I was talking to my dad on the drive home and told him I was in a Texas Snow Blizzard.  Too funny.
Dick and I went to see the new movie La La Land on Friday night.  I still haven't figured out if I really liked it or not.  I guess it gives you two different endings that you can choose the one you like best.  A little strange.  I did like that I had been to some of the spots where they filmed when visiting Pierce and Stacy in LA.
Dick is off to his first early bird meeting with the Stake High Council this morning. He was pretty excited.  I hope your week has been filled with some happy memories.  Sure love you, Robynn
