Happy Birthday Sky Today and Tatia Tomorrow!

Sunday, August 31, 2014

Today is Skyler's 26th Birthday and Tomorrow Tatia will celebrate her 33rd Birthday.  What fun it has been to have 2 birthdays in a row in our family.  Sky was for sure Tatia's favorite early birthday gift for her seventh birthday. Happy Birthday to you both! (Pierce is sporting his right arm in the photo)
I love this picture of the two of them at Tatia's graduation from college a couple of years ago!

Brooklyn and Addison survived the first week back to school.  It may have been the hardest on Harper.  When you are used to having two fun sisters around to make every day so much fun, she found it to be quite lonesome being home without them.  She is looking forward to Tuesday when she starts her one day a week preschool.  She is quite a social little lady and I'm sure will enjoy school a lot.  Becky isn't sure what she will do with two hours a week by herself, but she is willing to find out.The whole family said good by to their 2000 honda accord on Saturday afternoon when they sold it.  Becky's mom had passed it along to Becky when she graduated from college and it has been a goer for almost10 years for them.  They sold it to a cute Grandma who was so excited to have that sweet ride.

Jakes parents returned home last week after a very fun visit, just in time to prepare their talks to speak in church today. They were giving their farewell talks today and will report to the MTC for some speedie spanish lessons this week and then off to the beautiful country of the Dominican Republic for the next 18 months.  Jackie (Gigi) will serve as the Mission Nurse, so all the elders and sisters will get to call her when they aren't feeling quite right, and Jeff (Bumpa) will serve in the office keeping everything organized and running smoothly.  Tatia has been busy this week getting ready for the quick trip to New York this coming weekend.  Jake's best buddy growing up is getting married and Jake is going to be his Best Man at the wedding.  Tatia has shopped and found everyone cute outfits to wear and is looking forward to this coming adventure.

We had a fun visit with Charlie, Keelie and Callum in the Tee-P on Saturday night.  It was a little cozy inside but Graypa and I LOVED seeing them and hearing about their week.  Maybe the funnest thing was hearing about Mackenzies new hair.  Keelie thought it was pink and purple and we were happy to see how pretty it looked.  You are a brave lady Kenzie!  I loved it.

Pierce has had a great week with many of the commercials he made coming out.  Dick has showed me a few that he had put on face book.  I'll see if I can figure out a way for you to take a peek at them.  Dick said in one of them it even had a quick view of the Pierce.  Go PJ!  Stacy has been busy editing photos and send me about 100 photos this week of our sweet Adelaide.  Talk about my best day.  Thanks Stacy.

Kara has been making preparations for Skyler's birthday for a few weeks now.  She has kept everything very top secret and now I understand the reason why.  On Friday night she hosted a very fun birthday party at their apartments swimming pool. What a lovely pool and picnic area they have. The weather man had forecasted rain, which we would never discourage, but I will say we were not disappointed when the weather was picture perfect for an outdoor party.  Nice and warm so the pool felt perfect.  We were so glad that Kara's family could come as well as our Mansfield Thiots.  Kara's mom had been in a car accident earlier that morning.  She was a great sport and came and swam and was so fun.  We are so grateful that she wasn't hurt except for a burn on her arm from the air bag going off.  OUCH!  On Saturday morning, Kara and Sky left their house at 6 am and headed to an airpart to take sky diving lessons.  Yes you read that right.  I guess if your name is Sky, you must have a secret yearning to Skydive.  They both took lessons and had a fun day and about 4:00 took their dive.  They both loved it and they both survived.  I was so glad that I didn't know what they were doing so I didn't have to worry one bit all day.  Thanks for keeping a good secret Kara!

Dick has had a good week and I'm glad to report he is feeling better and after a follow up with his doctor doesn't have to go back for 3 weeks.  He is so funny and said he guesses he would have gotten better on his own, but I'm glad he went.  He got to play some golf this week once and turned down a couple of other opportunities.  I think he could retire and play every day and be one happy man.  Not for a while.

Every Friday when I come out of the temple, I take a picture of something and send it to Penny and ask her if she can guess where I am.  This Friday when I came out, these four friends of mine were jut leaving the temple.  I asked if I could take their picture and send it to my Penny.  They agreed.  Can you see what a big smile it gives you to be at the temple?  Penny guessed right away where I was.

This week was kind of visiting teaching week.  It seems like all my gals wanted to wait until school was back in to schedule appointments.  It was fun to get to catch up with everybody.  It's fun that Tatia's birthday tomorrow falls on labor day. Her real birthdate was not on labor day but would have been very well named.  What a blessing it has been to have her in our family.  Maybe her being the only girl in our family has made her even more special to me.  She is a darling daughter and a very dear friend of mine.  I miss her being so far away but appreciate all the huge efforts she makes to keep in touch with us.  Thank Heaven for FaceTime on the phone.  Almost, not quite as fun as being right there with them.  Sometimes Penny ends our conversation with,"Thanks for coming over Grammy!"  That is almost how it feels like I've just spend time with them.  Have a good week everyone.  I'll be thinking of you and how much you mean to me.  SLY Robynn

Thursday evening was Meet the Teacher at school for Brooklyn and Addison.  Brooklyn was delighted when she discovered whose class she was in. Her favorite teacher Mrs. Gilfeather, moved from first grade to second with Brooklyn.  She couldn't be happier to have her for another fun filled year.  Addison is just down the hall a ways in the Kindergarten with a darling teacher that everyone has raved about. Even our little tiny Harper will start preschool on Wednesday.  Her nursery teacher at church has a class for two year olds on Wednesday morning from 9-11.  She is most excited to be a school girl too.  Oh girls, I'm so excited for you all.  As a farewell to summer, they took a trip to the Dallas Zoo on Friday morning and had such a great time.  There is an area where you can ride ponies.  The girls hadn't tried it before and even Harper was on board to try this time.  What fun.  Brooklyn even named her Pony Arrow and fell in love with horse back riding.

As you can tell from this fun picture, the Charlottesville Granges have some mighty fun company this week.  Jakes parents, Gigi and Bumpa arrived late on Wednesday night and have had a great time hanging out with Maxwell and Miss Penny.  I love they've got a girl row and and boy row.  In this photo they were heading for the Shenandoah Valley for some adventures.  It was a bit rainy but that didn't slow them down a bit.  Gigi and Bumpa recently received their Mission Call to serve in the Dominican Republic for the next year and a half.  Oh how we are going to miss them, but what a wonderful example of Missionary work they are setting for these sweet little grandchildren.  I'm looking forward to sharing their mission with them too.  Enjoy your last day of your visit Gigi and Bumpa.  I know those kids are going to hate to see you go.

Keelie is starting her third week of school this week and along with the start of school, came the start of soccer season too.  Kenzie isn't coaching this fall season and is enjoying being a cheering parent on the side lines.  I'm sure Charlie is loving Keelies GREEN uniform.  If you look closely in this photo, you will see Keelies best cheering little brother, Mister Callum's feet wearing flip flops, shorts and one of his arms.  Oh how I would love to reach into that photo and give them both a squeeze.  Last Monday, Charlie let me be his car pool partner on his way to work in the morning. I LOVED getting to visit with him and catch up on the Carmichael Thiot's busy and fun lives. Thank you Charlie for calling.

Saturday night we got to face time with our LA Thiots for a few minutes.  They were getting ready for a ward party on the beach.  How wonderful does that sound?  Pierce said when your ward includes the beach, that is a highly likely spot to have a ward party.  This photo of Adelaide was taken a few months ago.  I have a feeling it would be hard to catch her sitting still now as she is a moving little Lady.  I loved her fun sunglasses in this photo.  What a dear little lady you are.  Pierce called us earlier in the week while Stacy was out doing a photo shoot.  He had two other little girls he was tending and the three little girls were having such fun together.  I loved watching Lady practice her walking with her buggy.  I think I have watched last week's video about 100 times.  So fun to watch you sweetie!

Skyler was Dick's hero this week in driving him to the airport early Saturday morning.  Dick purchased a new car, but it was in Houston which made it necessary for him to fly to Houston to pick it up.  I wish I could say I was excited about his new purchase, but I was not.  It is really hard for me to buy new cars.  I always wish we could figure out ways to make the old ones work and not have to spend so much money. That is not a very fun way to be.  I wish I could be excited for his sweet new ride.  Thank you Skyler for being willing and at the ready to help dad.  This is Skylers last week of his life to be 25 years old.  He told me he will be celebrating entering into the next quarter of his life next Sunday.  The first quarter of his life has been a wonderful one.  I've loved watching him grow from such a fun little boy into a great man.  Enjoy your last week of 25 Sky!

Dick finally made it to the doctor on Friday and is on an antibiotic to try to clear up an infection which has had him feeling awful for the past week.  I hope this medicine can work its magic and he will be feeling like his old self again soon.  Sometimes when you are feeling bad, you do bad things like buy new cars.  He is actually thrilled to pieces with his new car and is delighted that Ricky will be driving his old car so it will still be in the family.  For work this week, Dick took a quick trip to Austin and then on Saturday a trip to Houston.  That's quite a bit of Texas traveling for one week.  Go Dick GO!

We had our Single Adult Missionary Committee Meeting on Sunday evening.  We meet once a quarter with what we call our Super Committee to train and plan our next events.  Our July meeting was rescheduled for last night and apparently, it was a busy night and we had very poor attendance.  I have to admit, it was a great meeting with only a handful of people.  The Spirit was in attendance and that didn't seem to even matter that 80% of the committee was not.  Actually, now that I think about it, that is the percentage of less active folks who we are trying to reach out to and love.  Perhaps that is why so few came, to teach us just how big of number that 80% really is.  We met in the high council room which is filled with a gigantic table.  We passed out all the agendas and hand outs prior to the start and it was really startling to see so many empty seats.  It's time to go to work and do better.  I hope you have had a good week and best wishes to everyone going Back to School this new week. SLY Robynn

Our Mansfield Thiots
It's back to school one week from today for our Mansfield Thiot girls.  As one last fun before school, they loaded up the car on Friday afternoon and headed south to Austin for some summer fun.  Ricky had heard about a "swimming Hole" that was supposed to be a really fun time.  Ricky is always up for adventure and fortunately his girls were on board.  They packed a lot of fun into their weekend, swimming, bat watching and more.  I'm glad to report they are back home safely and the girls have fun new school shoes from a little outlet mall shopping they worked in.  Enjoy your last week everyone!

Our Charlottesville Granges
Its been a busy week in Charlottesville.  They have all four had many opportunities to give lots of loving service.  One of the sisters that Tatia visiting teaches has been in a rehab center and was sent home as her insurance ran out.  She wasn't really "ready" to  be sent home but had no choice.  Tatia and the kids have been a real blessing to her this week and she to them.  She adores Penny and Max and loves it when they come for visits and the kids enjoy having a fun friend to visit close by.  A Charlotteville Grandmother.  AWESOME!  They did have a fun adventure on Saturday which included a hike to a pond as Penny called it.  It was really a river where they got to splash around and then a trip for ice cream on the way home. Talk about a perfect day. Sunday night Jake got to go Bat hunting in one of his sisters he home teaches apartment. I can't wait to hear how that turned out.

This past Wednesday morning was a most exciting day for Keelie Christina.  It was her very FIRST day of FIRST Grade.  As you may have already been able to guess,  she LOVED it.  She is a natural at FIRST grade and is going to have a fun year.  She called me after her first day, a tradition I LOVE, to tell me that she has 3 teachers this year.  She couldn't remember their names but she assured me they were all pretty and very kind.  She was a little worried that Callum was going to be lonesome without her, he is enjoying some one on one mommy time and they are doing some fun Preschool things together.

This weekend Stacy and Pierce celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary with a quick trip to Santa Barbara for the day on Saturday.  What a beautiful place and they had a fun time together.  When I woke up this morning, there was a text message from them with little miss adelaide pushing her new doll buggy.  Oh my goodness, if it hadn't been four in the morning when I woke up I would have squealed with excitement.  I've watched it a dozen times already and am going to try my hardest to share it with you on this blog.  Cross your fingers I can figure it out.  I loved seeing her and see how thrilled she was with her self that she could do it!

It's been a challenging week for Sky and Kara.  Kara's arm in a splint continues to make life a little tricky.  It's amazing how we take for granted having two arms that can reach and move in ways we need them too.  Sky has gotten pretty good at french braiding Kara's hair and he's a great assistant for many things.  Kara goes back to the doctor this friday and gets the stitches out and hopefully gives the splint back to the doctor too, and will have her range of motion back soon.  Sky was was a super help to the Higbee Family this week in preparing the program for Brother Bob Higbees Funeral.  Sky took a simple document and turned it into a masterpiece in a hour or less.  Thank you Skyler for being so willing to share your talents with our dear friends in their time of need.  Bro. Higbee loves you for it!

All the years that Dick served as our Bishop, we prayed that Bob Higbee would not pass away on Dick's watch.  Bob was diagnosed with terminal cancer 11 years ago and was given a short time to live at the time.  He fought and fought and outsmarted those doctors all this time, but that mean cancer finally won this last week.  We are going to miss him like crazy.  He taught us many many lessons about life and how to squeeze the most of it into every day of your life.  We are glad he is not suffering any more but so sad for his sweet wife and his 3 sons.  Tender Times for sure. As Lauren Bacall said, "You don't always win your battles, but it's good to know you fought."
Dick has not felt well this weekend.  I told him that his body is telling him he needs to slow down a bit but so far he can't figure out how to do that.
I was asked to substitute in Relief Society teaching Lesson 16 of the Joseph Fielding Smith lesson manuel. "Bringing Up Children in Light and Truth" on Sunday.  I have to admit, that I love teaching Primary but Relief Society is scary to me.  I kept telling myself that they are only grown up little girls and I could do it.  It was a beautiful lesson to get to share and I remember President Joseph Fielding Smith.  He was only prophet for a couple of years but made a strong impression on me.  I loved getting to teach his words.  A funny thing happened at the end of the lesson as I was finishing.  A newly baptized sister who I love, commented in a big voice.  "Robynn, I will give you an A+ on your lesson."  It made me smile.

The title of this post is Happy Birthday Mom Mom.  Dick's wonderful Mother was born on August 18, 1919 and so today is her birthday.  I wanted to challenge her grandkids to do something kind of someone else today in her memory.  When I think of Jetta Thiot, that is what I remember, a woman who was small in statue but mighty in spirit and kindness.  She would do anything for someone who needed it.  She was Charity  in action for sure. Her son is just like her.  I know she must be so proud of you Dick and of her amazing grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Please share a few Mom Mom stories with your kids today kids.

It won't be long, only two weeks, until these little ladies are going back to school.  We planned a mini Grammy Camp earlier this week.  We packed a lot of fun together time and lots of memories into our time together.  I loved being with them and having swimming time, science time, reading time, park time, a field trip, a lunch date, a donut run, a post office visit, a painting lesson, and more.  Thank you Brooklyn and Addison for coming to stay with Grammy. Miss Harper was home with her mommy and enjoyed hanging out with her  but sure did miss her big sisters.  She's glad they are home.

Miss Penny had her last Ballet class on Monday.  It was only 8 lessons and it went by way to fast.  On Monday, Tatia was able to face time me in to Penny's class.  I was able to see her twirl, and spin and dance around her ballet studio.  It was WONDERFUL!  Penny, you are a darling ballerina.  I think McDonalds must have known it was her last week and created a Ballerina Barbie Happy Meal.  Tatia and Max and Penny went for a lunch date and Penny was thrilled with he Pink Ballerina.  I'm not sure that Max was too impressed but he is a good sport. Penny loved Projects.  This was her project for the week.  I LOVE your buttefly wings Penny!

My Sisters Lani and Laurie's family are in California this week.  Before they left, they requested our family Disney expert to sent them the Magic Tricks of having a magical time at Disneyland.  Mackenzie wrote up the cutest Disney guide for them.  If you ever venture that way, you may want to request a copy.  I'm sure going to file it away.  Thanks Mackenzie for sharing your smart and magical ways.  Dick called me from Salt Lake this week one evening and had Charlie on the phone with him.  I thought some how Charlie was in Salt Lake too, but it turns out that they were doing a 3 way phone call.  I loved envisioning Char and Dick driving down the road together.  Modern technology is wonderful

Pierce has been home alone for the past week and a half because Stacy and Adelaide are in TEXAS!  Stacy's sister Jordan has a brand new baby girl who they blessed last weekend in Houston and Stacy and Adelaide were blessed to get to come.  They are coming for dinner this afternoon and I am sooooooooooo excited to see them and hug on my sweet little tiny Lady.  Ricky's family and Sky's family are coming too.  I can hardly wait for 5:00 to arrive.

For the past few months, our sweet Kara has had a bump on her left hand.  It wasn't anything that was terribly sore, but it was worrisome.  She went to the doctor and the doc said that he could remove it surgically so on Thursday morning, Kara checked into the hospital to have it removed.  She's been a great patient and was able to come home later that same day and has had to keep her hand elevated.  Sky said he can't resist calling on her to answer questions as she is forever raising her hand.  Just kidding, I don't think it has been very fun at all but she is not a complainer and will have the stitches out in two weeks.  I bet Sky has been a great helper. To get out of the house on Saturday afternooner they took a walk over to the farmers market and look who was there.... The Plano Royals!  Yipee for Cousins!

Dick spent the week in Salt Lake and got to stay with my Dad.  I think they both enjoyed their time together.  Dad always like to spoil Dick by making him some real man breakfasts.  Thanks Dad for taking good care of him.  Dick was able to stay an extra day so that he could attend our friends Rich and Jill Bailey's son Tommy's wedding on Saturday afternoon in the Mt. Timp. Temple.  Dick said it was a lovely ceremony and he loved remembering ours just a few years ago.  Thirty five to be exact.  Yikes.  It's always wonderful to hear those promises and blessing promised for a forever marriage.
The first part of my home alone week was filled with little girls and so it was far from being lonesome.  The second half was a lot quieter and lonesomer.  Rocky was good company and barked at every person or car driving down the road just to be an extra good watch dog.  Dick's flight arrived just before midnight and Rocky was a good partner to drive to the airport with.  It was a bit of a challenge to stay awake that late for me, but well worth it to have Dick back home.  We both were invited to a Stake Training Meeting at 6:00 this morning which was a little challenging after staying up so late, but was a spiritual feast.  What great stake leaders our stake in blessed with.  It was great to be there in our callings as Single Adult Advisors.  We are finally getting in the groove after almost 10 months of serving.  I hope you have a great week and that you know you are loved.  SLY Robynn
