Rewind Button Wanted

Our Mansfield Thiots

Have you ever wished you had a rewind button on your life. If you could just back up 5 seconds sometimes, it would be so helpful. Last night Ricky was tucking his little girls into bed, had the lights turned out and Brooklyn pulled out a book from under her covers just as he was about to kiss her goodnight and low and behold, the book hit him right in the eye. He spend a night in bad pain and they are on their way to an instant care place right now to see what they can do to help him. Oh, I feel so sad for him and hope you will join your prayers with ours in wishing him a speedy recovery. Eyes are so important and I know our Heavenly Father can send blessings from above. Thank you all.

Jake made a quick trip to Houston this week to take the practical part of his level 2 exam. He said it went well and he had a safe trip back and forth. Tatia and Penny took lots of walks while he was away. Penny just kept looking for Daddy. She was glad to have him back home. Tatia has been busy with her Relief Society committee planning the next few month’s meetings. They have a fun “Back to School” night planned and a get acquainted evening. Each sister is invited to bring something for “Show & Tell” to help everyone get to know them better. Tatia’s ward changes a lot each new year as so many of the ward members are students. I think this will be a very fun evening for everybody.

Our Carmichael Thiots

Charlie and I have played phone tag this week and never caught each other home at the same time. I hope all is well with the Carmichael Thiot’s. They hit the ground running when returning from their Lake House getaway last week, back to work and on with life. Go Carmichael Thiot’s!

Our LA Thiots

I got a quick e-mail from Stacy this week telling me that they surely enjoyed the time they spent with her cousins on their visit to Los Angeles last week. Family is always welcome at their place she says.

Our Provo Thiots
Sky and Kara made a wonderful purchase this last week. Costco had a “Road Show” from Cultural Hall Temple Prints and they purchased a gorgeous painting of the Dallas Temple to hang in their living room. Sky got it hung on Saturday and it looks so beautiful. Thank you so much for helping us order one too. I can hardly wait for it to arrive. Our Provo Thiot’s will arrive in Dallas on Thursday for a few days, following Sky’s first week of classes. Kara is working on a series for the City of Provo that involves following Fire trucks, emergency vehicles and filming at a rapid pace. She’s enjoying that a lot. I can’t wait to hear more details about that while they are here. It will be fun to Celebrate Sky’s birthday while he is home.

We Empty Nesters

Since last week’s Thiot Times was our poky edition, I’m trying to think if there is anything noteworthy to report for this weeks edition. Dick and I attended the wedding reception for Chris and Karen Martin last evening. It was just lovely and they looked so very happy. It is great to have Jerry and Gemie home from their mission of 3 years. They will be speaking in our Sacrament Meeting this afternoon, sharing about their adventures and I’m looking forward to that. Such great examples to all of us. Three of the wards in our stake combined for a Family Swim Party last night. It was held at the new Plano outdoor swimming pool It was lots of fun to see all the kids and youth having a good time. A few grown ups swam but mostly kids and youth. There was some fun visiting going on outside the pool. We saw our favorite Russian family who stayed with us when they moved here two years ago. Eve, Milko, Allison and Joshua are such a neat family. Allison is a good little swimmer and Joshua just celebrated his 2nd birthday. He was just 2 weeks old when they moved here. I loved getting to see them and seeing how much their ward members love them. It was great.

Dick and I had a fun family night. Tatia and I started to renovate a little chair I rescued. She got the painting done and I came over to help her recover the cushion on the seat. My 1980’s circa power stapler decided that it was too old to work anymore so I brought it home and Dick borrowed a stapler from Mr Dave our neighbor and we went to work on it. I’m glad to report, it turned out great and no fingers were stapled to the cushion. That was a success. We delivered it to Tatia on Thursday and she now has a very cute chair to sit on at her desk. Thanks to a combined effort.

For the past year, I’ve been working on growing my hair out. I’ve had the same hair due forever and thought it was time for a new look. Well after 12 months of looking less than good, I went for a hair cut on Friday and it feels lo much better and it feels good to look like me again instead of someone else. Some of us are just meant to have short hair. I hope you have a good week. Thanks for your prayers for our Ricky. SLY Robynn

Our Mansfield Thiots

With school starting soon, Brooklyn was invited to Kindergarten Roundup Open House last Tuesday night. She got to meet her teacher and see her class room and play ground. What a fun night for her. Ricky was out of town and missed it and Becky was a trooper to take all 3 girls along. School starts at 8:00 and they are starting to practice getting up on time and being able to get out the door on time. Brooklyn is going to be excellent at Kindergarten I just know it. Addison will start her preschool soon too. What a great time of year Back to School is. Good Luck Girls!

Our Lovers Lane Granges

Jake took the Level Two Exam on Saturday and finished an hour ahead of schedule. We had talked about going to Chuys for dinner to celebrate that milestone in his life. What we didn’t know was that there was quite a storm a brewing in the clouds. Dick and I drove into the storm but were ahead of it when we arrived at Chuys. Ricky’s family arrived right in the storm, but Ricky was able to drop his girls off at the door without them getting too wet, but Tatia and Jake and Penny were right in the middle of it and arrived with an “old” umbrella of Mom Mom’s which does not stay up for longer than a few seconds. They were soaked. We still had a nice time and the dinner was tasty and Jake was relieved. He heads to Houston this week to take the practical part of the exam where he will interview a patient and discover what is wrong with him/her. Good Luck Jake!

Our Carmichael Thiots

Charlie, Kenzie, Keelie and Callum headed to a friends Lake House for the last week. They had a marvelous time getting to go on a long 3 ½ mile hike, that Keelie hiked the whole way, and did some water skiing, knee boarding behind a ski boat. Charlie was in his glory getting to teach Keelie to knee board and just like her daddy, she was great at it and loved it. They even got to go fishing too. Kenzie’s family went with them and they had such a good time. Charlie would send photos on instagram every few days and we so enjoyed being a part of the adventure. Callum even called me on Skype by mistake and I got to see him at the lake house. What a wonderful week they had. Now it’s back to work and business as usual.

Our LA Thiots

When Pierce and Stacy lived in Orem, in the cultisack with Stacy’s family, they built some great friendships with the little kid cousins and they had a family of them come to spend the week last week. I was face timing with Pierce when they arrived. This darling little boy ran in yelling for Pierce and jumped up into Pierce’s arms. It was about the cutest thing I have seen. I just bet they had a really fun week having them stay with them. There is nothing like family, that is for sure.

Our Provo Thiots

Skyler has been filming for the Young Rich man movie and has really enjoyed his time on the set. He said it’s almost magical as they transform the set into Jerusalem. Dick and I spent scripture study this week watching the New Testament videos. Some are just a few minutes long and others up to 8 minutes. It’s a wonderful thing and I can hardly wait to have them finish the ones that Skyler has been a part of. What a neat experience this has been for him this summer. He and Kara are coming next week and will be here for 5 days. I am counting down the days. They will be here for his birthday, and Tatia’s birthday and for Harpers blessing and for Becky’s birthday. We are going to party on.

We Empty Nesters

Each time I sat down to write the Thiot times over the past few days, I’ve just drawn a blank. On Friday when I was at the temple, a brother who works there told me some very sad news about a dear friend of mine. Shirley Kearl who was just a few years older than me passed away suddenly on Thursday. She lived by her self and when she didn’t arrive to help decorate for a wedding she was helping with, someone went to her home and found her dead. I’ve just been so sad about her being gone. Today I went to her funeral and came home feeling so much better. What a beautiful celebration of her life. She has two son’s who are Ricky and Charlie’s ages and they gave the sweet tribute to their mom. They invented a new word, SHIRLEYNESS which totally describes Shirley’s magic touch. Everything she touched, or did was just beautiful and classy. She has helped me with many projects and events and I’ve learned so much from her. The chapel and overflow were packed and what a tribute to all the lives she has touched. We all loved her and are all going to miss her. They started the service 7 minutes late as she was never, ever on time, but when she got there she was always one to work hard and do her very best. Her son said she has a plaque that says, “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort ... But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.” There were lots of young men and boys there dressed in their boy scout of cub scout uniforms. She was a Den Leader for many many years and was a wonderful one. Shirley was Ricky’s primary teacher when he was 4 years old. He just loved her. What a tribute to Shirley Kearl to have so many love and admire her. I’m going to miss her. Dick, thank you for going with me today. One of the speakers challenged us all to try a little harder to be a little better each day as Shirley tried to.  This photo is of Shirley and her darling neice who looks a lot like Shirley.  I hope you have time this week to spend with those you love.  SLY Robynn

Happy Birthday President Monson

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Today is President Monson's 85th Birthday.  On Friday, there was a lovely program in the Conference Center. Here's a link to watch it on the church website: http://www.lds.org/broadcasts/archive/celebration-of-life/2012/08?lang=eng

Also in the Friend Magazine this month was the recipe for the Birthday Cake that his mother Gladys used to make for him.  We made it at Grammy Camp and it's DELICIOUS!   Here's the recipe if you are interested in trying it. Have a wonderful day.  President Monson has asked that each of us perform a special little service for someone in honor of his birthday.  I love our sweet Prophet.  Happy Birthday to YOU!

August 18th is a very special day in our family.  Dick's mom was born on that day in 1919.  She passed away in 1988 but we feel her close so often.  I can't believe she would have been 93 years old this year.  I love this picture taken in her pretty peach bedroom.  We miss you and love you Mom Mom!

Grammy Camp

Sunday, August 12, 2012

Dick, Brooklyn and Addison and I went to Mckinney to pick up our third camper Kinsley Kate.  When we left, Ricky and Becky stayed and set up the tent in the Family Room.  When we came back, oh my goodness, we had 3 excited little girls to start camp.  Our first adventure was to take our flash lights and go for a hunt for the moon and the stars.  The moon was a bit poky showing up, but there were lots of stars and lots of buzzing bugs to listen to in the trees.  We loved it.  We came home for stories and then popcorn and the movie Cinderella, our favorite!  After prayers we tucked those little ladies into their sleeping bags in the tent.  Early Monday morning the fun began again.  We had rainbow shaped pancakes and everyone dressed in their Grammy Camp shirts and shorts and we had a planning meeting to plan what we wanted to do the very most.  We made a shopping list of supplies we would need. Then we filled up the swimming pool and headed to Walmart for our supplies.  First on our list was to go to the Duck park and feed the ducks.  We had learned from our last trip there to be sure and take water with us as it gets pretty hot there.  We filled up our water bottles and got some bread out of the freezer to feed the ducks.  They were thrilled with the cold bread and gobbled it right up.  The girls played on the play ground and we had lots of fun.  Then on the way home, we stopped at Little Ceasers for a cheese pizza and crazy bread.  We came home and ate lunch, then put on our swimming suits and headed to the pool.  After diving for sea shells, we decided that finger painting with Graypa’s shaving cream would be fun.  Addison noticed how much the shaving cream smelled like Graypa, she loved it.  Finger painting on glass top picnic tables is way fun and makes for a nice clean table when you are done.  After fingerpaints, we had some science time and built valcanos using baking soda and white vinegar to cause the eruption.  Oh I love little girls, we had many many eruptions and even added food coloring to make it prettier.  After we cleaned up we got back in our Grammy Camp clothes and settled in for a double feature of movies.  The Rescuers and then followed by the Resucers Down Under.  We loved especially the first one where the little girls name was Penny who they rescued.  So cute.  To make the movies even more fun, we popped popcorn with jelly beans in it.  Oh my goodness, what a treat.  After the movies we made a plan to meet Graypa at McDonalds for a Happy Meal dinner and some play time on the playground there.  Chicken nuggets are especially tasty with chocolate milk and the girls were good little eaters.  After dinner it was time for bubble baths and then “spa” time.  Those girls are getting brave enough to have the jets on in the tub which makes for some really good bubbles.  We bought some hot pink nail polish on our shopping trip and everyone had their toes and finger nails polished and looked fabulous.  Then it was time for stories and off to bed.  Tuesday morning before the little ladies woke up, Graypa kept watch and I ran to the donut store for 3 bags of donut holes and 3 chocolate milks.  When I got home, they were all 3 awake and Graypa had them in my room all prooped up on pillows watching Bednobs and boomsticks.  Breaking the rules, I served breakfast in bed and they loved it.  Following the movie, we got back in our Grammy camp outfits and everyone got in line for hair dues.  This was one of my favorite parts of Grammy camp.  Three little girls and three pony tails to make each day.  Today they all requested braids and they looked darling.  Today we were going on an adventure to the Indoor Safari Park.  We’d never been before and it was quite an adventure.  They have animated animals you can ride on and a train ride through a safari land. Then a fun jungle play ground and a game of mini golf.  We had a wonderful time and left when it was time for lunch.  We came home and made some tasty hot dogs with cheetos and you guessed it chocolate milk.  After lunch was clean up camp and pack up our stuff time.  Kinsley was remarkable at keeping up with her things all the time.  I was wishing she could give us all lessons on how she did it.  She always knew just where everything was. After packing and cleaning up, we headed to Mansfield to deliver Brooklyn and Addison home.  Kinsley agreed to ride along so I would have a partner to come home with.  She is awesome that way.  We played two of my favorite games on the way home.  The first one is called Remember when….  We tried to remember all of our favorite parts of Grammy Camp and I wish I could have had a tape recorder.  It was so much fun remembering.  Then we played “Grammy, what’s in your purse”  Brooklyn made up this game when she was just a  tiny girl and we love to play it when we are in the car together.  I reach in my purse and pull out something and make up a little story about it.  They girls LOVE it and I do too.  The funniest thing when I reached into my bag, there was a little brown lunch back folded up nice and tightly.  I was trying to think why that was in my purse until I unfolded it and noticed that inside their were little grains of wheat.  When Tatia, Penny and I were in Utah, we went to one of our favorite places, Wheeler Farm to feed the ducks.  I had bought this tiny bag of duck food, wheat, and there was a tiny bit left.  What fun it was to tell the girls about Wheeler Farm and feeding the ducks there.  After we found every interesting thing in my purse, we were to Mansfield and we got to see Rocky my grandpup and then Baby Harper was awake and we got to hold her and love her.  Kinsley hadn’t met her yet and was delighted to get to hold her.  All too soon, it was time to say goodbye.  Kinsley and I drove home and Kinsley feel fast asleep.  When we arrived at Kinsley’s home, her brother Owen, could not stop hugging her, he was so excited to have her home.  I’m sure Luke was excited too, he was playing play dough in the kitchen.  I loved Grammy Camp.  I kept wishing Keelie had been able to come and that Penny and Callum and Harper  were older and could have come too.  Next time I hope.  Now I think I will go take a nap as I’m exhausted just writing it all down.

The girls have loved the beach and the swimming pool at the HO-tel and are having a great time. Miss Harper has been a great vacation girl. They are do back home today and I can’t wait to hear all about it. Becky is coming to Plano for a haircut this week and I get to tend all 3 girls. Can you tell how excited I am? I can hardly wait!!!!

Tatia and Jake have had a good and busy week. Jake is in heavy preparation for his Stage Two exam this coming Saturday. He is so wise in his preparations. He’s been studying for it since he took Stage One. I know he is going to do very well. Tatia has been preparing for a baby shower that she hosted on Saturday for a dear friend of hers who is expecting her first little baby boy. Tatia made darling invitations and it was a very fun shower. I am glad I got to help a little by having it at my house. Thanks for the fun Tatia. I LOVE my apron you made. It was so fun being twinners with you and Penny too.

Have you ever played tick tac toe on the phone/face timing? Technology today makes being a Grammy across the country so much better than it could be. Keelie has an easel with a chalk board on it and we played tick tac toe together . I would tell her where to make my X and she would put her O’s on. She is a delightful little girl who I adore, thank you Charlie for making the efforts for me to know my little California kids. Callum continues to be the cutest little guy ever. I just wish your camera phones would let you reach in a grab those little people and hug them tight.

Last weekend Pierce’s roommate J-mo was married to his darling fiancé’ in Seattle, Washington. Unfortunately, Stacy wasn’t able to get away to go too, but Pierce went. The happy couplewas married in the gorgeous Seattle Temple and had the reception afterwards at the brides home which is right on a lake. The happy couple left the reception in the back of the ski boat and then if you can believe it, the grooms men who were all lined up on the dock to bit them farewell, all JUMPED into the lake fully dressed. Oh my goodness, Pierce admitted that it was his idea and it was such fun. Oh my goodness, I couldn’t believe it until Pierce shared pictures. He had a really good time but was sure glad to get home to Stacy.

Our Provo Thiots

Sky and Kara have had a little bit of craziness this week. The apartment above theirs, had some plumbing troubles which caused some rain showers in Sky and Kara’s place. Ugggggggg not fun to have wet, soggy carpets and stuff. They are busy drying out their stuff and are looking for some fans, if anybody in the area could help, give them a call. Skyler starts filming another New Testiment Movie tomorrow morning bright and early. He has enjoyed filming these movies, this is number 3, but says it’s not just all Fun and Games. It’s hot and the costumes are heavy and warm and the make up quite complicated, but he has really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see the ones he has done. Go Skyler! Good luck with your flood clean ups.

We Empty Nesters
I can’t believe I never wrote the Thiot Times last week. It was a busy Sunday and then Grammy Camp started and there never seemed to be a minute to write it. Take my word, last week happened and it’s over. This week has been good and has gone by quickly. Sunday night after Family Night, Grammy Camp started. You can read all about Grammy Camp in a separate entry.

Dick and I have enjoyed watching some of the Olympics in the evening. I’ve loved the diving and running. I love watching the hurdlers run. When I was in high school we would try that and I am sure I knocked over more than I cleared, but I loved it.

We’ve had the opportunity to help a family in our ward who moved get their house ready to sell. The Relief Society sisters got to go help clean, the Priesthood brothers young and older helped in the yard and the Young Men and Young Women helped with painting. We went over Saturday night to admire all the work and it looks so very, very nice. I have a feeling it won’t last long on the real estate market. I hope another wonderful and fun family finds it and moves in and our missionaries can teach and baptize them too.

The baby shower for Sister Monson turned out to be a success. She got lots of fun gifts and we had lots of fun ladies here. All of our hard worked paid off. Everything looked fun and the food was yummy. One of the bonus’ of having a shower, is your house looks better than ever. Horray! Hope you’ve had a good week too. SLY Robynn
