Rosella Birks Moore
| Visit Guest Book
Rosella Birks Moore passed away peacefully in her sleep, after an extended illness, on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at her home in Nampa.
Rosella was born December 12, 1926, in Melba, Idaho to Orval and Minnie Maude Birks. She was one of ten children. She lived in Melba with her family until they moved to Nampa in 1942 when she was 15. She attended Nampa High School for her sophomore and Junior years. She completed her education when she went to live with her sister Ruby in Oakland, California. Rosella worked for the telephone company there and worked in a drug store with a soda fountain. It was there that she met and later married Roger Dean Moore on August 7, 1947, while he was serving in the army there. After their 1st daughter, Sandra, was born in Oroville, California in 1949, they moved to Nampa to be close to Rosella's family. Their other 4 children: Gary, Mike, Bonnie and Brenda, were all born in Nampa, Idaho.
During Rosella's married life she worked part time as a waitress at various restaurants in Nampa, including the House of Fong and Hong Kong, devoting the majority of her time to raising her 5 children. She started working at J.C. Penney in Karcher Mall in 1968 when it first opened. In 1975 she started working for the Nampa School District lunch program. Over the years, she worked at several elementary schools; West and South Jr. High and Nampa High School in the district. During this time Rosella and Roger enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam Club around the area and making good friends.
After her husband, Roger, passed away in 1992, she became a volunteer with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and the Nampa Civic Center Auxiliary. She was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed all those activities as well as gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.
Rosella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roger, son Gary, brothers: Albert Birks, Howard Birks and sister Ruby Loberg.
She is survived by her children: Sandra and Dennis Scheffert, Grandkids: Karen, Kim and Kevin; Mike and Karen Moore, Grandkids: Rusty, Melanie, Donovan, Jamie, Jennifer, Nicole;
Bonnie and David McDonald; Brenda Lagimoniere, Grandson David; Gary's wife Wendy, Grandkids Brian, Lindsay, Jenna, Lisa and Jesse; 22 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Jay, Boyd, Clarence (Bud) and sisters: Della Marie, June and Ila Fae and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express thanks to the staff and residents at Sunny Ridge retirement for the warm welcome she received in the short time she lived there. A special thanks to Mercy Trinity Hospice for their care and concern during her last days.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N. Midland Blvd. Nampa. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:15 prior to services at the chapel.

My Dad just called to tell me that his older sister Rosella Birks Moore passed away this morning. Her health had been failing for the past several years and she was ready to go home to her Heavenly Father. She was a very dear Aunt of mine and we will all miss her but know that we will indeed see her again some day when it's our turn to return home. She was a wonderful hostess and always welcomed you into her home when you would visit. She was a great cook and loved to spoil us when we came. She was married to Roger Moore, or Mr. Rogers as Ricky so foundly called him. We stayed there when we attended my Grandmothers funeral and Ricky was just a little guy and was so impressed that we were at Mr. Rogers home. (Ricky loved the TV Show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.) The last time I saw Aunt Rose was in the Boise Temple. We had gone to Idaho to visit Ricky and Becky in their home in Fruitland, and had gone to the temple with them. When I walked into the dressing room to change clothes, there was Aunt Rose serving as a temple worker. Oh what wonderful hugs she gave. There was something extra special about having a temple hug from her. I will treasure that memory forever. Rosella and Roger had 5 children. Sandy, Gary, Mike, Bonnie and Brenda. Gary and his dad Roger have already returned to Heavenly Father. I'm sure there is a happy reunion in heaven going on right now. This picture was taken at my dad's 80th Birthday celebration. Rosella is on the left, then my dad and then his younger sister June.

The Thankful Thiot Times

Monday, November 21, 2011

It's Monday morning and I just got home from Institute Class. It was a wonderful lesson this morning as we talked about the Book of Ether in The Book of Mormon. We talked about Jared and his amazing brother as they were building barges to come to the "Land of Promise." I had the most grateful feeling come over me that I am so blessed to be living in a very Promised Land as well. Gratitude is always a focus during the month of November and I'm surely feeling that today. I sat down 3 times yesterday to write the weekly Thiot Times and some how the words were not there. Now I know the reason why. I would like to write down the things that are filling my heart with gratitude this day.

I'm grateful for loving parents. I know I am so blessed to still have both of my parents alive and involved in our lives. I start every morning with a instant message chat with my mom and she encourages me every day with her wise wisdom. My dad often will call and want to visit and I love those times too. They are both excellent examples to me. My children adore them as they are wonderful grandparents as well as parents. They love to visit if they live close enough as Sky is lucky enough to do right now, or call if they don't.

I'm grateful for a husband who I am just crazy about. Every day is not perfect and after 32 years of marriage, I continue to love him more and want to try harder each day to help make his life a bit better. He works so hard for our family and has been blessed to serve in the church as well. He does it with no complaints and with such love. I admire that a lot. He's a wonderful dad to our kids and the grandkids think Graypa is the best!

I'm grateful for Ricky, Becky, Brooklyn and Addison. I'm so grateful they too have been blessed to live life as Texans, at least for now. There are few things in this world that make me as happy as spending time with my grandchildren. Oh, how I treasure those times and the wonderful memories we are making.

I'm grateful for Tatia and Jake and Little Miss Penny. I know these years will be four of my very most favorite of my entire life having them live so close to us. I love that I can go visit when ever I can and that Penny just smiles at me and will put out her little arms to come to her Grammy.

I'm grateful for Charlie, Mackenzie, Keelie and Callum Jay. Thank you Charlie for making such good efforts to help us know your little ones. I love it when you call and let me ride along to work with you. I love it when we get to Face Time with Keelie and watch her amazing tricks, and I especailly love it when Callum is awake and we can see him too.

I'm grateful for Pierce and Stacy and for invitiing Dick and I for a trip to see their world. I enjoyed so much being there and getting to see your work, your beach and am so grateful for their lives and good examples of friendship and love to others.

I'm grateful for Skyler and for Kara Thiot to be. I love saying that and am counting the days until she is a Thiot too. I always wondered what it would be like when Sky got married. Being our youngest, somehow I thought we would just keep him home forever. I'm so grateful he found Kara and that she makes him so happy.

I'm grateful for two Missionaires who live upstairs. We are trading Elder Christensen in for a brand new greenie tomorrow. It's interesting how in having them live here, they feel like a part of the family.

I'm grateful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and so gratful for my Savior. I'm grateful to serve in the Primary in our Ward. I am grateful for every one of those wiggly little children and love them so much. True, they can make me crazy during sharing time on any given Sunday, but I am still grateful for them.

I'm grateful for my friends and for those of you who we have adopted into our family. Friends truly are relatives we make for ourselves and for that I am grateful. I was blessed to grow up in a wonderful family, my brothers and sisters and my dearest friends.

Happy Thanksgiving ya'll! I count you all as some of my greatest blessings!
I'm including this wonderful list of fun Grateful things to do with your family. I wish I had found it earlier in the month.

My phone rang this afternoon about 4:10 and when I answered it, the dearest little voice called out, Grammy is it you? Oh it sure is Brooklyn. What fun to get to visit with her and Addison on their way home from church today. Ricky said she asked if she could call me up. I don’t think there is anything I love more in the world than being called Grammy by my beloved little grandchildren. Brooklyn and I made plans for her and Addie to come over on Tuesday after school and go and see the Lion King with Greypa and we are hoping that Kinsley Kate might be available to come too. What fun, I can hardly wait!

Jake continues with his Pediatric Rotation at Children’s Hospital. When we were at their home yesterday, he was busy reading up on a disease that a new little patient had been diagnosed with. He’s going to be a GREAT Doctor one day! Tatia has had a Relief Society week with having her meeting during the week on Tuesday and then committee meeting to help plan her ward Christmas Party. My darling niece Krista is in charge of hers, I’m helping with ours and now Tatia with hers. I was thinking how fun it would be if we were all on the same committee, I would love that. Tatia and Penny are coming over tomorrow to sew a surprise for Kara for her upcoming Bridal Shower. What fun, I can hardly wait!
Our Carmichael Thiot’s
Veterans Day was on 11-11-11 and Charlie had the day off of work. They woke up Early bird style and left Sacramento and headed to LA for a getaway. Pierce and Stacy have been so looking forward to having them come again and getting to spend more time with them this trip. Friday was Disneyland Day and our sweet Keelie dressed as Snow White and had a very Happily Ever After kind of day. She loved it and I’m sure Callum did too. Saturday the beach was first on the agenda. Pierce was excited to show Charlie his newly acquired sweet surfing skills. I’m so glad Our Carmichael Thiot’s and our LA Thiot’s got some together time. I can hardly wait to see them in 6 ½ weeks!
Our LA Thiot’s
I happen to know first hand what a fun Bed and Breakfast Stacy and Pierce run at their home. I’m sure Charlie, Kenzie, Keelie and Callum can all tell you the same thing, that they were well taken care of. I’m hoping there will be some fun photos of the weekend for me to peek at soon. Stacy’s been having fun with her photography business. She has taken some darling photos of some very cute families they have gotten to know. She’s got a great eye behind the camera. What a gift!

We had a fun visit with Skyler last night and if you can believe we had to make an appointment to get some time to visit with him. That might tell you how busy his life is right now. He shared some good news about a project that the BYU Basketball Team turned over to the Ad Lab. They are trying to sell out their first home game which they haven’t done in years, so several students suggested a different idea of what might work. I’m happy to report that Sky’s add campaign was the chosen one. I can hardly wait to see and hear more about it!
We Plain’Ol Empty Nesters
I’m happy to report that the meds Dick is taking have helped him to feel better or maybe it’s that his life has gotten so crazy busy that he has not had time to think about how he feels. I hope it’s the first. Our weather has sure been glorious these past few days. I keep thinking that this is the reason we endure the LONG HOT Summers, to have these nice days in the fall. If you can believe it, there is a tree on the way to the church, that actually has popcorn popping on it. I told my Primary kids today when they sang that song, that I have in fact seen a popcorn tree. I think that poor tree is very confused. The other trees just like it are turning orange and red, but it is thinking spring is back. Saturday, Dick and I were privileged to attend the Funeral Services for Catherine Davis Hollingsworth. She was one of the first people I met when we first moved to Texas 30 years ago. She came over and visited me as a new member of the ward and asked me to teach Relief Society. I just loved her. There were so many nice things said about her and her 89 years of living. She has a son that is Dick’s age and Dick was in their home many times growing up. He loved her too. I had an interesting feeling as we sat in the line waiting for the procession to take us to her grave site. I watched as all these people poured out of the chapel and the thought that this is what heaven is going to be like. So many of those people I knew and have known for years and have loved them dearly. Heaven will surely be that way, filled with those we love and haven’t seen for a while. I’m not going to say that I can hardly wait, as I hope I will be here for a long time, but I know it will be a great place filled with those we care so deeply for. Tatia made her famous Taco Soup and invited Dick and I for lunch following the funeral. We loved getting to play with Miss Penny and getting to see Jake and Tatia too. I hope your week has gone well. Know that you are loved and thought of often. Tonight Dick and are were invited to a firside for members over 50 years old, It’s about learning about serving a mission. I CAN HARLDY WAIT! SLY Robynn

Happy November!

The Plano Zone of Missionaries on Halloween

Our Mansfield Thiot’s
Our little girls have been sick this weekend and that has not made for much sleeping happening at night. I’m glad Ricky was in town to be some help to Becky. Before they were feeling lousy, they took advantage of some of our beautiful weather and enjoyed some bike riding around the neighborhood. One of the cutest things I heard about the girls this week, was Tuesday morning when they woke up they wanted to go trick or treating AGAIN. They both loved it and couldn’t believe they couldn’t go again that night. They’ve got plenty of candy, but I think just going was mighty fun for them. Get feeling better little ladies! Grammy loves you!
Our Lovers Lane Granges
Tatia is busy getting ready for her Relief Society during the week meeting on Tuesday night. They have done a fun thing. They had each of the sisters fill out a survey form about what they love most about Dallas. It included favorite doctors, plumbers, hair sylists, pre-schools, to their favorite place to eat tacos or favorite pizza place and much more. Tatia has compiled the list and they will have the Lakewood List much like Angies List or other helpful listings. It’s been a big project and I think Tatia is looking forward to tomorrow night. Penny had some firsts this week. She went to her six month check up and got 3 nasty shots that have left her feeling kind of yuck this week. She grew her first tooth and she ate sweet potatoes along with rice cereal. WOWSERS! Go Penny!
Our Carmichael Thiot’s
I don’t know if I have told you that many of our family members have signed up to run a half marathon the day after Sky’s wedding, on New Years Eve. Charlie and Mackenzie are training for it and are running every free minute they get. Grandpa Smith has been a wonderful babysitter as Mackenzie runs with her Mom and he’s been great to look after those darling little Thiot’s. Tatia and Stacy and Pierce are also going to participate. Run Thiot’s Run! Charlie’s family has been enjoying the fall weather and have had a trip to the fish hatchery this week and also to an Apple Farm. Charlie said fall is a wonderful time of year to visit Sacramento.
Our LA Thiot’s
On Sunday, Piece was re-introduced in Priesthood Meeting by his Bishop. You see, Pierce looks very different as he has shaved off his six month of beard. He is beard free and looks like a new man. Stacy said at work today he told her that everyone just kept staring at him and wondered who the new man on the block was. I bet it feels so good to have that off his face, but may take some getting used to again. I kind of surprised myself that I liked Pierce in a beard. Heck, I like Pierce how ever he looks, that is why Mom’s are paid the big bucks you know
Our BYU Thiot
I feel a little guilty to be enjoying our pretty cooler weather while it’s down right COLD in Provo. Skyler is a trouper and is trying to enjoy the first snow fall. He and Kara had Stake conference this weekend which is always a spiritual boost. Also, our dear prophet President Monson had his annual visit to BYU where he spoke at the devotional on Tuesday. I was so happy to get to watch it on Sunday when they rebroadcasted it. Oh how I love President Monson. He spoke about gaining a testimony of the Book of Mormon. I love that Book and know it’s true and brings much peace to me.
We Plain’Ol Empty Nesters
Dick got a call from his doctor this week telling him the results of the Upper and Lower GI tests they did the week before. The doctor told him that the test they did on his stomach lining, showed that he had a bacteria infection which can be treated with an antibiotic and should be cleared up in 2 weeks. The doctor thought that may have been giving him the symptoms of chest pains that he has been experiencing for the last couple of months. I must say it is a relief to have a name for the problem and to see that there is a way to correct it. Thank you Dr. Dick certainly enjoyed our extra hour we got on Sunday morning. He said he thinks it really helped him through a very busy Sunday. Lots of folks at church are struggling and it’s hard for Bishop Thiot to know what to do for them all. Lots of Prayers are appreciated.
I was lucky enough to be put on the Bridal Shower Committee for Kara. My mom and sweet sisters are hosting a shower for her in two weeks. I got to be on the invites and loved getting to do that. Thank for letting me be a part of the festivities! I got a little more work done on my crazy tooth this week which has made for some days of feeling lousy, but I’m glad to report, it’s feeling better today. Hooray! Have a great week ya’ll. Know that you are loved. SLY Robynn
