August 31st was one of the happiest days of my life when Sky joined our family. He has been such a fun member of our family and is adored by all of us. From the day he was born, he has made life so much better.
Happy Birthday Skyler!
Glenn Roshto who passed away last Sunday.

Ricky’s family had a fun Saturday at Lake Granbury with their friends. The girls had a great time playing in the water. Texas has been extra hot this summer which makes being soaking wet the very best way to enjoy these hot days. Ricky had a good week out on the job this week too. He had his first sale and was thrilled and can’t wait for another before the month ends. Brooklyn has one more week until Preschool starts. She is looking forward to starting and hopes the week will pass by quickly. Brooklyn & Addison are missing their Nana and Papa. They loved having them stay last week and can’t wait to see them again.

Jake completed his 2nd rotation on Friday at the Garland Family Practice. Monday he starts a surgery rotation at Parkland and will have to be there early bird style, at 5:00 am. I have a feeling he will enjoy this a lot as there will be much to learn. Tatia and Penny have been grounded this week. Jakes little trucks drivers seat belt died and while they wait for a replacement to come in, he is driving Tatia’s car. With Sky home, we’ve had an extra driver and been sharing a car and so I have not seen little Penny and Tatia all week. I was thinking today why this week had been so tough and I think that is one of the big reasons. I’ve missed seeing those sweet girls. We will make up for lost time soon, T&P!

I think Charlie must be mad at me this week. When I posted his happy anniversary wish last week, I had it off by one whole year. It was six years they’ve been married instead of five years. Shame on me for having lost so many brain cells and not kept better track of years. Please forgive me Charlie. I loved the new pictures of Callum that they have posted on their blog, you may want to take a peek. I am not prejudice, but I do believe Callum is the cutest 7 month old boy on the planet. I loved the new photos Stacy took of Charlie’s family at the beach. Keelie looked to be having a ball. I loved seeing Pierce and Charlie together. I loved them all. Thanks for sharing those Stacy, you’ve got some sweet photo skills!

Pierce put a fun video of his new work on their blog. You may want to take a peek at that. What an exciting place he works at. It looks like someone amazing like Pierce will fit right in there. They sure enjoyed their company last week and can’t wait for someone else to stop by. What fun it is to have family in both Northern and Southern California. Go Pierce & Stacy!

Skyler has been home for the past 2 weeks and 1 day. I have so enjoyed having him home. It is a lot like the olden days when he lived here. He is such a cheerful and fun person, it’s good to have him around. It makes me realize how much I miss him when he is off to school. Dick dropped him off at the airport for a 3:00 flight home. He was able to change his ticket so he could be here for Kara’s grandmother’s funeral on Saturday afternoon. Dick and I were also able to attend and we both said at almost the same time, what a lucky young man Sky was to be marrying into Kara’s family. We had never met Shirley but felt like we had known her all our lives and loved her after we left her memorial service. We laughed and we cried as we heard so many sweet stories and memories of her. Her brother just two years older spoke and shared such sweet things about her. I am not sure that you are supposed to enjoy funerals, but this was surely a celebration of a wonderful life well lived.

This has been a tough week in Plano, Texas. Brother Glenn Roshto passed away last Sunday afternoon after a short illness. We all thought he was getting better but the Lord had other plans for Glenn and took him home with him. It’s been very hard for his family and Dick has been a wonderful Bishop and helped them prepare for the funeral which was held on Thursday afternoon. I was most touched by the talk his daughter Aubrey gave. She said it was the last gift she could give to her father and she shared some very loving and tender memories she has of him. I’m so grateful that we have memories when we loose those we love.
When Dick climbed into bed on Thursday night, he was exhausted and told me this had been one of the hardests weeks of his life. Now we all know, that Dick is one of the busiest human beings on the planet, and for Dick to admit to having a hard week, was really something. It was still a surprise when he woke up Friday morning feeling aweful and with pains in his chest. Being a worry wart wife, I took him to the Plano Heart Hospital to be checked out. Within 3 minutes they had done an EKG and already started a battery of tests to try to figure out the pains. We ended up spending the day in the hospital awaiting 3 negative blood tests and then were sent home and referred to a cardiologist and a stress test for Monday. Sometimes our body’s force us to SLOW down just a bit and give us a wake up call. I am so grateful that he is doing better. Thank you for your prayers. SLY Robynn

Brooklyn and Addison have been in their glory this week with Nana and Papa in town. It was hard to let them get on the plane to go home today. They are such fun grandparents and the girls just adore them. I’m glad we got to go to dinner with them on Monday night. Brooklyn told Nana that she thought she would really like Grammy and Greypa. She had forgotten that of course we knew and loved them already. I loved it. On Saturday, Addison got her ears pierced. She’s been thinking about it for a while and decided she was big enough. She was so brave and looks darling in her pretty earrings. Ricky posted a video on you tube and you can watch if you would like to.

Jake and Tatia and Penny had a good and busy week. Tatia and I have gotten hooked on a TV show called Drop Dead Diva. Tatia rented the 1st season at the library and has enjoyed watching it. It kind of reminds us of Gilmore Girls, another series we loved. Penny and I got to have some girl time on Saturday when Tatia and Jake went to the temple with our friend Kevin for the first time. Penny and I did a little shopping and then went home for some napping time. On Sunday, Tatia and Jake were invited to speak in church and they asked Dick and I if we would tend Penny. Well you don’t have to ask us twice, we loved attending their ward and getting to have Penny and listen to their great talks. What a nice ward the Lakewood Ward is. We loved it.

Charlie, Mackenzie, Keelie and Callum had a great time in LA along with Mackenzie’s parents and brother and sister. What fun memories they made and I loved hearing all about it on the phone with Keelie. She sang me the Small World song and she said she road a roller coaster ride that she loved. She said Callum had fun too. On Monday, Keelie went to her first day of Preschool. Charlie sent us a picture of her happy face holding her first home work assignment. The Letter A is a great letter to start off with. Thanks for calling me to tell me all about it Keelie. I loved talking to you.

Pierce and Stacy had a great week with Stacy’s cousins family of six staying with them. I thought Charlie’s family was staying too, but fortunately for them, Charlie stayed in a hotel. Dick and I were remembering when we took our kids to Disneyland and we stayed in the Penny Sleeper Inn. We nick named it the Penny Pincher Inn. It was not a four star but maybe a one star, we didn’t care, we had a great time anyway. Charlie’s family and Pierce and Stacy met up at Huntington beach for some catch a wave time and had a great time together. Stacy couldn’t believe how much Keelie loved the beach and playing in the ocean. I can’t wait to see the pictures she took, hint hint

This has been a hard week for Kara and her family. Her sweet Nana was doing a little better then caught pneumonia and died on Sunday. It’s been very hard to have her so far away while they would have loved to be with her. They are bringing her home for the funeral on Saturday. I’m so sad for their family. Nana’s are the best and what a loss she is to them. I’m so glad that we know that Families are Forever and that we will see her again. Skyler and Kara are taking engagement photos today. They’ve been shopping for just the right outfit to wear and I bet they are going to be way cute. I can’t wait to see them.

This may have been one of the busiest weeks and weekends of my life in the past 54 years. I don’t know when we have packed in so many things in such a short time. Friday night Dick invited the young men in the ward over for game night. My favorite thing was when I went into the front entry, and on the floor were all these shoes lined up like they were ready to climb the stairs. Too fun. Those boys had a great time and Dick loved having them over. The guys left about 11:00 and at 8:00 the next morning we had our dear friend Kevin over to be ordained an Elder in preparation of attending the temple and going on his mission. What a sweet experience that was to have the Elder who baptized him come back to ordain him. Then we had breakfast and then got ready for Elyssa’s baptism day, a sweet little primary girl who was being baptized at 11:00. Then it was off to the temple to meet up with Tatia and Jake and get Penny and Dick and Sky went with them and Kevin. Then it was time to head to Steve and Karen’s wedding reception. They had been married in the temple at 11 in the morning. Sky and Kara loved the place they had the reception and are thinking about having theirs at the same place. Very fun! We came home and slept a bit and then drove to Tatia and Jakes for their church and then home to our church and then home for an engagement dinner for Kara and Sky Hawaiian Style. Kara baked Skyler the cutest birthday cake I've seen in a long time. It looked like Mac Book Pro laptop computer. So cute and DELICIOUS! It was yummy and we sure missed having Kara’s mom there with us.
I was thinking of spending Monday in bed until I got a call to sub at the Preschool at the front desk being the phone answering girl. Loved it and now I am pooped. Hope you had a bit calmer week. SLY Robynn
Today is August 18th and Today marks 92 years ago that Jetta Belle Jarrell was born in Mulburry, Arkansas. She was the 2nd daughter and child born to James F. Jarrell and Annie Belle Watkins Jarrell. She had an older sister Hazel and two younger brothers Buddy and Melton (pictured above with Hazel and Buddy. She grew up and married Richard Wylly Thiot III and is the mom to my husband, Richard Wylly Thiot IV. She is the Grandmother or as she was affectionatly called by all five grandchildren, Mom Mom. Every year when August 18th comes around, I wish she was still with us. I can only imagine how thrilled she would be with her grandchildren and their choices of spouses, and now she has five Great Grandchildren who she would just be crazy about.
She would marvel at Brooklyns clever things she says and would LOVE her long long beautiful hair.
She would be totally amazed by Keelie and her curls and would be entertained by the hour by her fun stories.
Addie Mae would be a delight to her with her gorgeous blue eyes, much like Mom Mom's and her darling blond hair, straight as a string like Mom Mom's and she would be so proud of her learning to sleep in her big girl bed.
I can only imagine how thrilled Mom Mom would have been when Callum Jay joined our family just 7 months ago. A BOY to carry on the Thiot Family name. She would adore him and might have had to move in with the Carmichael Thiot's for a few months just to be with him.
She would have HAD to come back to Dallas in May when Penny Elaine joined our family. Oh how she adored Tatia and she would have just gone nuts over Penny too. Penny's closet would have been jam packed with darling clothes, more so than it already is as would ALL the little girls closets. She would LOVE to listen to Penny giggle and would just giggle right along with her.
I can only imagine how you would have been so happy with Sky's choice in picking Kara to be his bride in December. You would have LOVED her dimples and her sweet and loving ways.
Happy Birthday Mom Mom, we LOVE you so much and miss you a LOT. We often feel your spirit close by as we celebrate special events in our growing family. Thanks for teaching us how to Love eachother.
Sure Love you & Miss you

Ricky’s new job started last Monday and included a week of studying at home. He enjoyed all the new things he was learning and the only difficult part was being at home but not really being at home. The girls knew he was there and so wanted to be right by him. It’s going to take some training to know that when daddy’s door is shut, he is really at the office and not available for play time. Becky and the girls came over to Tatia and Penny’s on Tuesday and we had In & Out Burgers for lunch and went for a swim in the pool. Tatia’s apartment pool had no other swimmers; it was like having your own private swimming pool. We all loved it and it felt so good on a very hot day. Another nice thing about Tatia’s pool is that it is mostly shaded by trees and so you don’t get fried swimming. This evening the Mansfield Thiot’s invited us for Sunday dinner. I can hardly wait!

Jake finished his 2nd week in the Garland Family Practice and is learning a lot about Patients and Patience. He said they have a lot of folks that come in for Pain Management Medication and they have to be so very careful to make sure they are really necessary and not just an addiction to the meds. It’s a tricky business for sure. Little Miss Penny had her first hair cut on Saturday morning. She had quite a nice fringe on the back of her neck and it did not go with the rest of her hair. Tatia and Jake used the clippers and very carefully got that part in line with the rest. Her first haircut is now in her journal. Miss Penny, for the record, Grammy loved your little mullet. One of my favorite things this week was having a race with Tatia. I’ve always been one who likes to race against the clock and when Tatia called on Saturday morning I asked her if she wanted to race with me. We both set our timers for 110 minutes and turned on our bionics to see how much we could get done in that time. When the timers went off, Tatia called and needed an extra 15 minutes to vacuum and then she had cleaned her entire house. She’s amazing. I did get a good jump on my house and found it so much more fun to have a partner to clean with even though we weren’t in the same house. If you want to race me some time, call me

Speaking of racing, Charlie and Skyler had a race of sorts this week. Here is what I’m talking about. Battle Mountain, Nevada, is the half way point between Salt Lake City and Sacramento, California. Charlie called up Sky and challenged him to a race to see who could get there the quickest. Now there really was a reason for the race, not just pure boredom. Charlie had been test driving Grandpa’s little Honda Del Sol for the past year and Grandpa decided to repo it since he had not received sufficient payment for it So Skyler drove Charlie’s blue jeep which he has been enjoying for the past year, along with a bonus prize of Mackenzie’s little sister Kelzie, who has been at BYU for summer term, to Battle Mountain, Nevada. What a great time everybody had. I loved having two Thiot boys in the same town if only for a few minutes. Happy 7 months old tomorrow Callum Jay!

Well, the fun is beginning. Word is out that the LA Thiot’s have a pretty sweet apartment and a great location and the company has started to come. Pierce called me last weekend requesting that I sent him his Lego train. Stacy’s cousins are coming to stay and go to Disneyland and Charlie’s family is coming too. He thought it would be really good entertainment to have his little train there. I had such fun going through Pj’s closet looking for his treasured train. It was fun to box it up and send it on it’s way to LA! It was excited to be going out west and I was sure glad when I heard it had arrived safely and that all the necessary parts were on board. Enjoy your company this week LA Thiot’s! Toot Toot!

Skyler is HOME and it’s so great to have him here. I just kind of want to follow him around. Kara is coming over at 10:30 to go to church with us and that will be great to see her. Sky said it’s been 3 whole days since he has seen her and he can’t wait. She came home on Thursday for a couple of weeks between semesters. We are looking forward to seeing her too. She got some sad news earlier in the week about her sweet Grandma. She is in Portland, Oregon on a trip and got really sick and is in the hospital up there. We are sure keeping her in our prayers and hoping for some miracles.
We Plain’Ol Empty Nesters
When I was talking to Charlie earlier this week, he told me that Mackenzie’s aunt and her husband and 2 of her grandchildren were in a head on collision car accident in Wyoming heading to a family reunion. The 14 year old grandson survived and the others passed away. What a sad, sad thing for their sweet family. Life is so fragile, we never know how long we have and we need to really treasure the ones we love and our time on this earth. Our prayers are with your sweet family Mackenzie. We love you.
This week is over and we are ready for a new beginning. Our 40 days over 100 degrees ended this week with a most welcome rain storm on Saturday morning. I went out and stood in the rain until I was soaked. I was smiling the whole day. Horray for rain! SLY Robynn

Cute babies Penny & Sarah Elisabeth with their cute mommies, Tatia and Bonnie.
No more monkey's jumping on the bed quilt for a sweet new baby coming next month.
August 8th is going to be a great day for the Mansfield Thiot’s. Ricky starts his new job tomorrow and they are all very excited. The first week he will have home study and then the next week he heads to Boston for the week and then starts in his area. Exciting Times are ahead this week. Becky’s parents are planning a visit to Texas later in the month. Brooklyn and Addison are getting so excited for Nana and Papa to come for a visit. With our extra hot weather this week, the girls have enjoyed keeping a bit cooler at the water park and the girls are sure improving their swimming skills. It’s the best way to beat the heat by being soaking wet. Good Luck this week Ricky!

Tatia has had a fun week getting to attend baby showers. She called me early Tuesday morning and wanted to come over and make some shower gifts. Penny was a good helper in our projects and we had a fun time. After we finished we had a fun luncheon with our friends Colleen, Bonnie and new baby girl 2 weeks older than Penny, Sarah Elisabeth. It was fun to see these two little girls together. We had a fun photo shoot and caught two darling little girls on film. Jake enjoyed his first week in Garland at the Family Practice. Tatia likes it as he gets home about an hour earlier which is very nice.

Callum has spent some time at the doctors this week. The doctor is trying to figure out what that cute little guy is allergic to. He’s had some blood work and has been a good sport at being polked. Mackenzie sent me a darling new photo of him sitting in his play seat, he looked delighted to be in there. Thanks Mackenzie for the new pic. Love it! Keelie’s had a good and busy week. I wish I had the amount of energy that little girl has. She can run from sun up to way past sun down. She is one fun gal. Love you Keelie!

When I talked to Pierce, he said it had been an exciting week at work. The director of the Gatorade ad campaign had been in town and they had been working their tails off to produce some new ideas which I’m happy to report were very well received. Go Pierce! Stacy and Pierce were looking forward to a trip to the beach on Saturday evening. Unfortunately it was a little cooler than they had hoped for. I can’t even envision coolness when we are so very not cool.

When Sky was a missionary, he served with some great companions who were great cooks. One was a good sushi maker and Kara and Sky tried out some of those skills this week in making sushi. I’m not a fan of sushi but Dick was sure wishing he had been there to enjoy it with them. This Summer term in rapidly speeding past. This is the last week and the good news is that there is a couple of weeks before Fall term starts, so they get to come home for a bit of it. Horray! Skyler will be here next Saturday and I can hardly wait. Kara comes a few days earlier and her family is most excited too.
Nearly ever day, we are setting new records for high temperatures in the Dallas area. I find myself being more and more grateful for the people who invented air conditioning. We are so blessed to live in this day and time of AC. I am not looking forward to opening the electric bill but I’m sure glad for the coolness indoors.
I had a senior moment this week when I went to the bank to make some deposits. When I submitted the info, the bank teller came on the video screen to say that the account number I had written down was not complete. I was going to go home and recheck the numbers when I had the thought to just give Skyler a call while I was in the drive through. So I dialed him up and he wasn’t at home and had to run home to check. While waiting, another car pulled up behind me. As to not make him wait for Sky to run home, I pulled into a parking place to wait. After getting parked, I looked down at my lap, and I still had the “traveling Tube” on my lap. I had STOLEN the bank tube. Oh no! I am happy to report that it didn’t take long for Sky to get the complete number and I did go into the bank, laughing my head off and return the tube. It’s great getting old.
I do want to share two ways to get cool in a heat wave. The first way I found that is amazing is to go to Costco and walk through the COLD, COLD room where all the fresh produce is kept. Oh my, that place was filled with people on Saturday. Most of us were considering staying all day in the coldness. The next way is to go swimming. Dick filled up our blow up pool on Satuday morning and last night we went “swimming” When our fingers were shriveled up, we got out and I felt COLDness for the 2nd time of the day. Oh my goodness, it felt great!
Dick had to be at church at 6:00 this morning. He get’s to make a presentation to invite Priesthood leaders to attend the non Sunday Wood Badge that he is staffing in October. I hope his presentation goes well. I keep thinking Dick’s life is going to slow down a bit, not this week. Have a great week ya’ll. SLY Robynn
