Our Mansfield Thiot’s
Ricky and Becky had a very fun Wednesday when on Tuesday evening they won 2 season passes to Six Flags over Texas with a Parking Pass. I met them on Wednesday morning at the Cracker Barrel in Grapevine and picked up two darling little granddaughters and we had a very fun day together. Ricky and Becky loved all the scary coaster rides and enjoyed hanging out with all the Seniors from Allen School District who also were there that day. The weather was nice and warm and they had a fun time just the two of them. I think Ricky is ready to go back to work tomorrow. A 2 month break is too long and he’s ready for this new adventure in his live. Good Luck Ricky!

It’s official, Jake has completed his first year of Medical School with flying colors. Go Jake! His mentor took the 8 students she mentors to dinner at a fun restaurant on Friday night and Tatia and I got to have a sewing marathon while he was gone. Tatia’s sister in law Tootie’s birthday is today and we had such fun sewing her an apron and hot pad for a birthday gift. Tatia and I have become quite a sewing team making some of the cutest aprons ever. Dick thinks we need to sell them, but they are much too cute to sell, we just want to keep them or give them to people we love. Tatia and Jake are making some fun plans for a July get away. They are going to fly to Washington for a few days and then drive back to Utah with Tootie so she can start summer term the first week in July. Tatia is soooooooooooo looking forward to getting to spend time with Gram and Gramps and all the family she misses so much.

Charlie got a phone call last week from my brother Ric wondering if they would like some house guests for the Memorial Day weekend. Charlie didn’t even have to think about it twice, he was thrilled to have Ric & Kathy and Chip and Elycia come and stay with them. There was a Car Race or Bug Inn or something fun in Sacramento that the Birks boys wanted to go too. I haven’t gotten a report yet, but I’ve been smiling all weekend thinking about them getting to spend time with my kids there. I’m so glad they got to come and I hope they had a great time.

Pierce and I have played phone tag this week. Pierce usually calls on Tuesday afternoon on his drive home from the temple. I LOVE to hear about his day there and what he was able to do serving in the Lords house. I try to call him on Fridays on my way home and share my adventures. It didn’t work this week. I did hear through the grapevine that Pierce has caught a nasty cold maybe in sympathy for Gram’s crummy cold and I also heard that they had gone camping. I’m hoping he is feeling better and I am hoping they had a fun time camping. Utah has so many beautiful places to go and not too far away from home. Pierce, phone home when you back in town.

This week was spectacular. Maybe my favorite week since we got to Staten, but its debatable. It was chuck full with cool experiences that I wont forget. So on Thursday we had a special zone conference with half the mission and we had a 70 come and do a tour of NYC. It was Michael T. Ringwood, and he was sooo good. He talked about changing hearts, and how when our hearts are truly converted, missionary work comes as an instinct. he was freaking sick. he is a good man. Afterwards as we were leaving I was saying goodbye to former companions and he looked at me and asked, "Where’s my hug?" So needless to say it was my first hug with a General Authority. Although I have to say that wasn’t the highlight of the week. That came on Wednesday. We have been trying to get in contact with a less active member Carson for the last 5 weeks and finally got a hold of him Monday, and made an appointment for Wednesday. While we were at his house talking, his wife asked the question that music to missionaries' ears, "How do I get baptized?" His wife, Vickie, has been reading the Book of Mormon for a while now, and knows its true, just hadn’t know where the church was, but now she is getting ready for a baptism at the end of June. It’s such sweet news for the end of my mission to have someone like her to work with.

This week was the security audit at DCS and they passed with near flying colors. They have a few things to tweak but he’s feeling much relieved. So relieved in fact, that he was able to attend the Colonial Golf Tournament on Friday with Ricky. Not as a golfer as he could really enjoy but as an observer. He enjoyed it and got some sunshine. This morning we woke up early and went to buy a flag of America. Ours had worn out and we needed a fresh new flag to proudly fly on this Memorial Day. We had one of our favorite Veterans of war come for Sunday dinner and share with us some of his interesting experiences of serving our nation. Jack is now 85 years old and is such a great example of patriotism. We love him and all of you too. Have a lovely rest of your holiday. SLY Rob

Celebrations!

Our Mansfield Thiot’s
I’ve been hoping we could celebrate the good news about our Mansfield Thiot’s. Ricky starts his new job on June 1st! Hooray! Thank you, Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts heading in their direction. During his time off these past few weeks, he and his friend Joe built a bed. Yes you read correctly. They’ve had a mattress, but no headboard. Joe is a very handy man and has some sweet tools and was able to give Ricky some good instructions. I am so impressed; it looks great in the pictures Ricky sent Dick. I can hardly wait to see it in person. One more week and he’s back to work. I’m sure Becky, Brookie and Addy will miss him, but are so very thankful for this new opportunity.

Tatia and Jake will celebrate their 2nd Wedding Anniversary tomorrow! Happy Anniversary you two! We had a fun evening with them on Thursday night. A fancy grocery store called Central Market, has been having Argentina Days during the month of May. Tatia has wanted to go and have some empanadas and get some of her favorite Argentine cookies. We had such a fun time. Thanks for inviting us to join in your fun evening Granges. Tatia and Jake are babysitting 3 boys, 15, 12, 9 and 1 darling little girl, 6, this weekend. Their parents have gone out of town for a wedding and the kids begged to have Tatia and Jake come and tend. They tended them another time last summer and they loved them. They are having a busy and fun weekend at the Whites home.

I had a fun visit with Charlie this week. He was telling me that they are working with Keelie to stay in her bed ALL night long. It’s been a challenge as she gets lonesome and would like to come climb in bed with them. I told Charlie that it used to always be a bit of a surprise to wake up and see who had joined us in the night time. We always had a BIG bed and it was not uncommon to find a guest in the morning. Charlie said it’s a lot more noticeable with a queen bed instead of a king size. Oh little Keelie, you have such a cute bed, I hope you soon learn to LOVE it and can stay in there all night long then we will celebrate.

It was Stacy’s birthday this week and Pierce pulled off a very fun surprise party for her Wednesday night. Stacy was very surprised and had a very fun time celebrating. Pierce treated her to dinner at the Texas Roadhouse, a very fun and tasty place for a birthday dinner.

This was another great week filled with cool moments that will be hard to forget. I went on exchanges with the Spanish missionaries on Staten this week and got to practice my Espanol. T would have been proud. We went finding on the ferry when I was with Elder Tyrrell(of Riverton, Utah fame) and ran into a man who was way nice. We had a great conversation and invited us to come over and deliver a Finding Faith in Christ. but on Saturday morning he called to tell me he had been told by his catholic priest not to let me into his house, so I could bring the DVD but we couldn’t even talk. After much persuading he decided we could come over, but after hanging up he called back a minute later and said we couldn’t come. But the miracle was on Sunday he called to talk and find out more. It’s funny to see how people behave around us here. This island is probably about 60-70% Roman Catholic, it’s providing cool opportunities to talk to people here. The local paper is getting ready to do a story on us missionaries, so we are hoping it gets good publicity for the church here, we have our fingers crossed. (We will surely celebrate)
We Plano Thiot’s
Dick and I were invited to Kinsley Kate’s first dance recital on Friday night. She’s been taking tap, ballet and gymnastics for the past year and LOVES it. She looked so darling and did a Super job of dancing. I loved the Hokie Poky the best, such a fun night. Thanks for inviting us Kinsley!
One of Dick’s customers is having a big security audit and it’s taking a LOT of Dick’s time and energy. I’m sure he will be relieved when the week is over and everything is done. Good Luck Dick!
On Wednesday night, the Young Men and Young Women had an evening for the kids who are graduating Seniors this year. It was extra fun as there are only two, Matt & Madeleine. It was M&M and Dick was very clever in his presentation for them. I was wishing I could have been there too.
Having a husband with a busy, crazy job and having him serve as the Bishop of a busy ward is a tiny bit on the lonely side. Sometimes I just sneak and attend meetings that I know he will be at just so I can see him. I’m thinking things will calm down one day and we will celebrate. I love you Dick! You are in my prayers! Have a great week ya’ll! SLY Robynn

Happy Birthday Stacy!

May 20th is a great day in our family. Our Stacy was born on that day and celebrates her 25th birthday today! Happy Birthday Stacy! I love this picture of you by the Lion House. We are so lucky to have you in our family.

Keelie needs a BIGGER Pillow

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

When my sweet little Keelie moved into her big girl bed, I was so tickeled that her quilt I made her when she was born still fit her bed. I had to giggle just a bit when I saw that she was using the pillow from her dolly cradle.
Oh Keelie, you need to look in your mailbox in a couple of days. Grammy had the funnest morning sewing you a bigger pillow. I'm hoping a nice big and soft pillow will help you to LOVE your big girl bed and sleep in there ALL night long. I love you Keelie!

Your new pillow is sooooooooooooooo soft on the backside, I think you will love it!

And so cute on the front. What fun Grammy had!

What a Week!!!!!

It was wonderful to get to attend Bethany and Shauns reception on Saturday. What a great couple!

Here is my new Mr. & Mrs. Robin painting. I love it, Thank you Dick!

Happy Birthday Dick!

What a busy week this was for Ricky as he continues to interview for jobs. He had an interview in San Fransisco on Thursday. He flew out early in the morning and returned home the same day late, late. He is hoping by this time next week, to be the happy owner of a new job. Thank you for your prayers for him and his family. I know something great is heading his way. Friday night, Ricky and Becky dropped two darling little granddaughters off and Dick and I got to enjoy their company. One of my favorite memories of the evening was teaching Brooklyn about bridges. We played with the little draw bridge that is a part of Pierce’s train set. Then we read the book we have about the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Then Greypa, and I made our very own Brooklyn bridge. Dick held her arms and I held her legs and we had our very own “Brooklyn Bridge.” We all giggled and had such fun. Little Addy Mae is getting on board to be a walking girl. She can stand alone and has taken 3 steps. Don’t grow up so fast little one!
Our Cobre Valle Granges
Tatia had Thursday off and so we quickly made some plans for a sewing morning. We were both invited to Emily Gunn’s bridal shower on Saturday and Tatia wanted to make one of her darling aprons for Emily. We had a good time making it and we also made a BIG bowl of Chex Party Mix to take to Dick’s office in celebration of his birthday on Thursday. I got some small yellow cups at Dickeys Barbeque and it was enjoyed at the office. Tatia and I loved taking it up to him. Jake invited Dick to see Iron Man II on Saturday afternoon. Tatia and I opted for Letters from Juliet at the same time and we had a fun afternoon together. It’s so fun to have the Granges as our neighbors. We love it.

Charlie called me on Wednesday needing a bit of help in getting Dick’s birthday gift picked up. Charlie mentioned to me that he wanted to get his dad an i-pad. Dick had really been thinking he “needed” one. Charlie told me that he had heard that they were now available in the Feminine Hygiene aisle of the grocery stores. Its took me a minute to figure out what he was meaning, but it didn’t take long to run get a package and make a cute sign for his very own i-pad. I don’t know when I have ever seen Dick more tickled or pleased with a gift. He laughed right out loud, which you know how loud he can laugh and loved it. Way to go Charlie, your clever idea made your dad a happy man.

Pierce and Stacy have both been really busy lately. Pierce with school and Stacy with work and both of them on weekend photo shoots. Pierce is a great partner to go along with Stacy when he schedule permits and is a good helper especially when she does groups that include children. Pierce is such a big kid himself, that he is a natural at entertaining and making kids smile. I think this last week was the first in a long time when it didn’t snow. Spring time is coming to Utah too! Hooray!

Mothers Day is one of the two days of the year, when Missionaries are allowed to call home. It was so very good to hear Elder Sky’s happy voice. Everybody in our family got to say a quick hello to him. I have to admit something to you. It made me very very excited to have him come home in July. As much as I have loved being a Missionary Mom, I’m going to be even happier to be a Returned with Honor Missionary Mom. Here is a snippet from his letter last week.
This week was an exciting one for sure here on Staten. The biggest news would probably be the first crash the SI ferry has had in 7 years. I was 14 when the last crash happened, and had no idea that there was an island called Staten, that I would one day call mi casa. The good news, we rode the ferry later in the day then when the ferry crashed so we avoided getting injured, and we got to ride the ferry with Gov David Patterson, the governor of this great state.
I love it on this island, it is amazing. We keep meeting really awesome people, and the work keeps getting more exciting, and the members keep helping us out more and more. When the members are involved in the missionary work, life gets super easy for missionaries.
I feel like i talked about everything exciting yesterday so I will just answer your questions and hopefully fill you in on anything I forgot yesterday

Last Sunday was Mothers Day and a very busy one. Our Thiot Times did not get written and interestingly enough the earth kept rotating on it’s axis and all is well with the world. It was a wonderful mothers day that I got to either spend with my kids or at least talk on the phone to every one. I love each of you and your wonderful spouses so very much. Dick had a good birthday week. He was delighted when Kinsley Kate and her little brothers and parents came to his office to drop off a BUNCH of Balloons. What great family and friends we have. Have a great week ya’ll. SLY Robynn

Today marks 53 years that this world has been a better place with the addition of Richard Wylly Thiot IV. Happy Birthday Dick. This is one of the few pictures we have of Dick and his Dad, Richard Wylly Thiot III who also went by Dick. Dick's dad passed away when Dick was six years old. In those six short years, he taught him how to be a really amazing Dad. Our kids all adore their dad as not only a parent but as a really good friend as well. Thanks for all your do for our family Dick! I love you the mostest!

MOTHERS
Real Mothers don't eat quiche; They don't have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils Are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors, Filthy ovens and happy kids.

Real Mothers know that dried play dough Doesn't come out of carpets.

Real Mothers don't want to know what The vacuum just sucked up...

Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?' And get their answer when a littleVoice says, 'Because I love you best.'

Real Mothers know that a child's growth Is not measured by height or years or grade... It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother.....

The Images of Mother

4 YEARS OF AGE - My Mommy can do anything!

8 YEARS OF AGE - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 YEARS OF AGE - My Mother doesn’t know everything!

14 YEARS OF AGE - My Mother? She wouldn’t have a clue. .

16 YEARS OF AGE - Mother? She's so five minutes ago.

18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She's way out of date!

25 YEARS OF AGE - Well, she might know a little bit about it!

35 YEARS OF AGE - Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.

45 YEARS OF AGE - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?

65 YEARS OF AGE - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes, Because that is the doorway to her heart, The place where love resides. The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that sheShows, and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!

Happy Cinco de Mayo

Wednesday, May 05, 2010

My favorite part of Cinco de Mayo is that my Uncle Mike was born on May 5th. He is such a great man and I have loved thinking about him all day long. Happy Birthday Uncle Mike!

Here is a picture of me and my sister dancing at the Cinco de Mayo parade last year.

Here are my sewing galswith their cinco de mayo hot pads we made for their mom's for mother's day this afternoon. It's so fun to teach these gals. I love Wednesday afternoons.

Here is mine, there's turned out much cuter.

Becky, Brooklyn & Addison returned home late on Thursday night. Their plane had mechanical problems and so they were delayed 4 hours and didn’t arrive until midnight. What a happy sight that was for Ricky to have his girls home. Becky had a fun trip and they packed in a lot of fun during the week. The girls loved being with Nana & Papa and Becky’s Grandmother, Gigi was there too. Lots of good memories were made. Becky’s parents have two BIG dogs who Brooklyn loved playing with. Every time she talked on the phone to Ricky, she asked how her Rocky (their dog) was doing. She loves animals. Nana & Papa took Brooklyn to see “How to tame a Dragon” She loved the movie and especially the Popcorn. Yummy! It’s good to have the girls back home.

Jake had the final exam in one of his classes this week and he said it was trickier than he had expected. I’m sure he did well. You’ll have to take a peek at his blog as he talked about this class he just finished. Tatia is in charge of her Bee hive class activity this week. With mothers day coming next weekend, she took a picture of each of her young women with their mom’s after church and they are going to make picture frames to give to their mom’s for Mother’s Day. I’m sure their Mom’s are going to love it. Tatia loves those young women and they love her too.

We had fun visit with Charlie and Keelie this afternoon. She told us that she is now sleeping in a big girl bed and is wearing big girl panties. My goodness Keelie, don’t grow up soooooo fast! She sounds so close on the phone, I just want to reach over and hug her. Charlie told me he would be happy to do that very thing for me. I loved it! Charlie’s Stake had Stake Conference today which is always a wonderful thing but makes for a long sitting time for a tiny girl.

Pierce called on Friday morning and it was snowing. He said he and Stacy had had enough of winter and were heading south with some friends of theirs to Las Vegas which was boasting about 70 degree weather. That sounded way good to them. I’m hoping they have had a wonderful weekend get away and that they have a safe journey home. Pierce enjoyed his first week of Spring Term. He’s got some good classes. Spring Term goes by quickly so you have twice as much work to do in half as much time. Good Luck PJ!

As we rode past the Statue of Liberty on the Staten Island Ferry on Saturday, it made me think about what those millions of people who came to Ellis island must have been thinking when they saw that great statue. I love what it says on the statue.
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free The wretched refuse of your teeming shore Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
That same message is being called out by Jesus Christ to all of his Children. New York City was the golden door for the past centuries, and it still is. I have met with and taught people from 50 countries, and from every religious background imaginable. From Columbia to Egypt, from Russia to Uzbekistan, and from the Czech Republic to Haiti, this gospel is for everyone. How lucky am I to come to the cross roads of the world. NYC has people living from every continent, speaking every language, all united in the fact we are sons and daughters of God. We allow ourselves to focus on our differences more then we should, while we should be focused on everything we have in common. This could make all the difference in the world. It really makes you thankful to be a country that still remembers who our creator is. Everyone who lives in this country still handles money that says, "in God we trust". And as missionaries especially, if we cant trust in God, we cant trust in anything.

May 3rd will be our 31st anniversary of the day Dick and I were married. I do believe that was the very best decision I ever made in my whole life to marry Richard Wylly Thiot IV. He has made my life a very happy one although a bit crazy at times. Happy Anniversary Dick! Friday night we were invited to our little Kinsley’s #4 birthday party. It was sure fun to see her and her darling baby brothers. All the Texas Thiot’s were there to celebrate with her. I loved it. Our Dallas Temple is closed for 2 weeks. I hardly knew what to do with myself on Friday. It was kind of fun to have another nothing day. I’ll be glad when they reopen next week. Hope you’ve had a good one. Sure love ya’ll, Robynn
