Ricky and Becky had a very fun Wednesday when on Tuesday evening they won 2 season passes to Six Flags over Texas with a Parking Pass. I met them on Wednesday morning at the Cracker Barrel in Grapevine and picked up two darling little granddaughters and we had a very fun day together. Ricky and Becky loved all the scary coaster rides and enjoyed hanging out with all the Seniors from Allen School District who also were there that day. The weather was nice and warm and they had a fun time just the two of them. I think Ricky is ready to go back to work tomorrow. A 2 month break is too long and he’s ready for this new adventure in his live. Good Luck Ricky!

It’s official, Jake has completed his first year of Medical School with flying colors. Go Jake! His mentor took the 8 students she mentors to dinner at a fun restaurant on Friday night and Tatia and I got to have a sewing marathon while he was gone. Tatia’s sister in law Tootie’s birthday is today and we had such fun sewing her an apron and hot pad for a birthday gift. Tatia and I have become quite a sewing team making some of the cutest aprons ever. Dick thinks we need to sell them, but they are much too cute to sell, we just want to keep them or give them to people we love. Tatia and Jake are making some fun plans for a July get away. They are going to fly to Washington for a few days and then drive back to Utah with Tootie so she can start summer term the first week in July. Tatia is soooooooooooo looking forward to getting to spend time with Gram and Gramps and all the family she misses so much.

Charlie got a phone call last week from my brother Ric wondering if they would like some house guests for the Memorial Day weekend. Charlie didn’t even have to think about it twice, he was thrilled to have Ric & Kathy and Chip and Elycia come and stay with them. There was a Car Race or Bug Inn or something fun in Sacramento that the Birks boys wanted to go too. I haven’t gotten a report yet, but I’ve been smiling all weekend thinking about them getting to spend time with my kids there. I’m so glad they got to come and I hope they had a great time.

Pierce and I have played phone tag this week. Pierce usually calls on Tuesday afternoon on his drive home from the temple. I LOVE to hear about his day there and what he was able to do serving in the Lords house. I try to call him on Fridays on my way home and share my adventures. It didn’t work this week. I did hear through the grapevine that Pierce has caught a nasty cold maybe in sympathy for Gram’s crummy cold and I also heard that they had gone camping. I’m hoping he is feeling better and I am hoping they had a fun time camping. Utah has so many beautiful places to go and not too far away from home. Pierce, phone home when you back in town.
Our New York Elder Thiot
This week was spectacular. Maybe my favorite week since we got to Staten, but its debatable. It was chuck full with cool experiences that I wont forget. So on Thursday we had a special zone conference with half the mission and we had a 70 come and do a tour of NYC. It was Michael T. Ringwood, and he was sooo good. He talked about changing hearts, and how when our hearts are truly converted, missionary work comes as an instinct. he was freaking sick. he is a good man. Afterwards as we were leaving I was saying goodbye to former companions and he looked at me and asked, "Where’s my hug?" So needless to say it was my first hug with a General Authority. Although I have to say that wasn’t the highlight of the week. That came on Wednesday. We have been trying to get in contact with a less active member Carson for the last 5 weeks and finally got a hold of him Monday, and made an appointment for Wednesday. While we were at his house talking, his wife asked the question that music to missionaries' ears, "How do I get baptized?" His wife, Vickie, has been reading the Book of Mormon for a while now, and knows its true, just hadn’t know where the church was, but now she is getting ready for a baptism at the end of June. It’s such sweet news for the end of my mission to have someone like her to work with.
We Plano Thiot’s
This week was the security audit at DCS and they passed with near flying colors. They have a few things to tweak but he’s feeling much relieved. So relieved in fact, that he was able to attend the Colonial Golf Tournament on Friday with Ricky. Not as a golfer as he could really enjoy but as an observer. He enjoyed it and got some sunshine. This morning we woke up early and went to buy a flag of America. Ours had worn out and we needed a fresh new flag to proudly fly on this Memorial Day. We had one of our favorite Veterans of war come for Sunday dinner and share with us some of his interesting experiences of serving our nation. Jack is now 85 years old and is such a great example of patriotism. We love him and all of you too. Have a lovely rest of your holiday. SLY Rob
