Plano Stake Primary Book of Mormon Celebration

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Here is Ammon being brought before King Lamoni and his lovely wife Queen Lamoni

The servants had him bound very tight.

Here are the Kings Flocks, our sweet little lambs
Our dear Stake President addressed all the Primary children after their skits. He is a great man called of God that we love dearly.
Ammon and King Lamoni check out each others swords prior to the start of the show.

Meet Nephi and his brother Sam at the Tree of Life. Great guys!

This is the golden plates, ok maybe not the original ones, but it shows us what they might have looked like and how heavy they were.

Here is a first edition Book of Mormon that a book collector in our stake owns. It's OLD!
Our Stake Primary President Nancy Baldwin, made 2,000 strippling warriors. Each of the primary children got to bring home five of them. They are amazing!

Meet Father Lehi and his lovely wife Sariah, also known as Patriarch Laritzen and Sister Lauritzen.

Remember when the Brother of Jared needed a way to light the barges? These are the special stones which brought light into those amazing vessels.
Here is the Liahona that was left outside of Father Lehi's tent. Do you know how you make it work? What a great GPS System.

What a wonderful celebration of The Book of Mormon. Our Primary Children were so blessed to get to attend such an event. What a lot of work that so was worth it. Our dear SIster Faubert wrote our script and did the costumes. My little sewing gals sewed the sheeps ears and we sure had fun with that assignment. So glad I could be there.

Earth Week Edition

Happy Earth Day with Tatia's little ones and their fabulous butterflies!

It's the Jackson Boys! Grant and Blake with the sunshine in their eyes. It was so good to see them.

Becky, Brooklyn & Addison left on Wednesday morning for California for the week. The girls did great on the flight. Becky was nervous about traveling alone with them but prayers were answered and they did great. I’m sure Nana and Papa are loving having them there. Little girls change a bunch in only 4 months. Ricky’s good friend Blake Jackson and his brother Grant flew into town on Wednesday evening. Grant hadn’t been back to Texas since they moved away when he was still a kid. We’ve gotten to see a little bit of them and it’s been fun to catch up with them. Thanks for sharing them with us too Ricky. They wanted to attend our ward this morning as part of their old home week in Texas. The first thing Grant said to me was how sorry he was for the ways he misbehaved in Primary when he was a little boy. Oh how I love those Primary kids. Those children who know how to sit on chairs and those who don’t. They are all my favorites.

Tatia invited me to come celebrate Earth Day with her little ones on Thursday morning. What fun that was to bring my globe and show them where we are on this amazing planet earth. Tatia had them make butterflies that were so fun with wax paper and crayon chips melted with an iron. Very fun. We had earth day chicken and noodle soup thanks to Campbell’s soup. Yummy!
Jake and the Elders Quorum sponsored a temple night prior to our temple closing for 2 weeks. It was nice to be able to attend with them. They even brought ice cream galore to share with those who came in hopes of inticing more to come. It was DELICIOUS!
Our Carmichael Thiot’s
Dick got a fun phone call from Charlie and Keelie this weekend. They had the top and windows off the Jeep and both sounded way thrilled to be enjoying the fanstastic weather. Keelie even got a chance to try out the swimming pool with some friends for the first time. Each time she got splashed on she would say, “Look, I’m all wet” she was quite impressed with the fact that she could get wet. What a fun summer she is in for if she loves swimming.

Pierce got some great news on Monday. He was accepted into the Creativity Section of his Major. Pierce was delighted as are all of us. Way to go Pierce!!!!!!
Stacy’s parents are in Utah this weekend for Stacy’s graduation. I know I told you that she had graduated in December. In December, they don’t have a ceremony and in April they invite the December Grads to come and “walk” in their gowns and caps. We are so proud of Stacy. Way to go Stacy!!!!! You did it! Wish we could have been there to celebrate with you too. Congratulations!

So today here i am on the chunk of rock they called Staten. This is the first time in my life i have lived on an island and so far its pretty sweet. This island is soooo different then Brooklyn and Queens.
I have to tell you about this amazing miracle that happened this week. Elder Kosaka and I were driving home from transfers and trying to figure out where our apartment is and an hour and half later we decided we were lost. We called the other missionaries and told them were we were, and they said they would come and get us. When we were waiting, I felt like I should talk to the guy walking by our car in the parking lot. I grabbed a pass-along card and jumped out. When I called out to say hey to him, he turned around and started laughing. He was shocked to see us. He was a member who had moved from Boston 3 months ago but hadn’t been in contact with the church. I was just a surprised that the first person I talked to was a member. We meet with him Saturday and taught his roommate john, and both of them will be coming to church this Sunday, hopefully. It was just such a testament that even getting lost on a totally foreign island can be part of the Lord's plan.

Our Stake Primary had the most wonderful event on Saturday. It was a Celebration of the Book of Mormon. Each Primary presented a favorite story from the Book of Mormom. Our Primary chose the story of Ammon as a Missionary to King Lamoni. They LOVED the swords, the slaying of the arms and our jr primary made the cutest sheep ever. It was a very fun morning. Way to go Plano Stake Primary! Thanks Dick for taking some fun photos. Have a great week ya’ll! SLY Robynn

Congratulations Pierce!

Pierce was accepted into the Creativity Program in the Advertising Department at Brigham Young University. WHat a great choice they made when they selected Pierce.

He was born with some mighty Creative genes and has always used them well.

Way to go Pierce!!!!!!

Our April Showers Brought Bluebonnets

Ricky has had another thrilling week of job hunting. He said he has filled out more applications that he thought possible. He has a couple of interviews this week and we are all keeping our fingers crossed. Becky and the girls are heading to California this week. Becky’s parents are too lonesome for those darling girls and they are excited to see them. Brooklyn called me on Friday and was hoping to come here for a sleepover before she leaves town. What fun that is to have her be big enough to want to come and sleep over. I love it. Dick and I picked her up on Sunday evening and are enjoying every minute of that sweet heart.
Our Cobre Valle Granges
Tatia and Jake have had a good and busy week. They went with friends the Monson’s on an amazing drive Friday evening to South Dallas to see the bluebonnets. They both loved them and took some fabulous photos. I can’t wait to take the same drive soon to see them. Tatia hosted a baby shower on Saturday evening for one of the other medical students wife. The husbands came to our house during the shower for some pool and video game playing. I’m not sure which group had more fun, the gals or the guys. Tatia sure had her house looking darling all set for the party.

After a crazy and busy week last week, with Mackenzie’s good friend Melinda’s wedding, I haven’t heard much from our California kids. I hope they’ve had a chance to rest up and recuperate from the traveling and business.

Toy Story was one of Pierce’s favorite movies when he was a little boy. This week there was a sneak peak at Toy Story 3 that will be out in June. It was for college students only. Pierce and Stacy were Thrilled to get tickets and get to attend. Pierce said the audience was laughing the entire time. They loved it until it came to almost the end, and the stopped it and said, “Come back in June to see how it ends.” Pierce hopes they will be there on opening night. Pierce has two more days of finals and he is finished for the semester! Happy Day!

After spending the last 15 months on Long Island, the island which is the location of Brooklyn, and Queens, I am finally leaving this chunk of rock for a smaller island, Staten Island. The least populated of all the borough's in New York city, Staten is about the size of Brooklyn, but only has 4 English missionaries covering that area. So its going to be a big change since there are about 45 missionaries in Brooklyn, and 50 in queens. I got the call Saturday morning, and at first I was a little T.O'd. Staten is in the same zone as Bensonhurst, and is just across the Verrazano Bridge from my last pad. So its crazy that I will be so close to all the people I love in Brooklyn. I don’t know who my new comp will be, but we are both going to Staten new to the area, which should be another adventure like here in Jamaica.

After two great weeks in Salt Lake, I came home on Tuesday afternoon. Dick was still in Denver at Spectrum at a conference, so I got to pick myself up at the airport. I think that was my first time and I’m glad to report I did just fine. Dick returned home on Friday. He said the classes he taught went well and he got some good positive feedback. They even had to bring in extra chairs to his second class which is a compliment. Go Dick!
We had an extra nice Saturday. It was the Stake Relief Society Conference. I always look forward to going. It was wonderful and especially nice when you are not in charge and can just go and enjoy being there. Saturday afternoon Dick and I were able to attend the temple with Michael & Vicotria and Baby Conner as they were sealed in the temple. It was a very happy afternoon. I hope you have had a good week too. SLY Robynn

Ricky continues to job hunt and Becky and the girls are enjoying seeing a lot more of him. I’m sure there is a company out there that needs an amazing man like our Ricky Thiot. Good Luck this week, you are surely in my prayers. Becky posted some new pictures of their little girls on their blog, you might want to take a peek.

Tatia and Jake were excited to participate in the Elder’s Quorum Camp out held at Irwin Park in McKinney this weekend. Irwin Park is the closest thing we have to mountains near by. It’s a pretty area with lots of trees and kind of away from the busy part McKinney. There are some fun bike trails there and they took their bikes to enjoy the fun.
Our Carmichael Thiot’s
Charlie’s family headed back to California on Tuesday morning. It was sure fun to get to spend time with them and to get better acquainted with our little Keelie. As soon as they got home, Mackenzie’s good friend Melinda was married on Saturday and Mackenzie has been helping her as her wedding planner. She’s arranged for the decorations at the reception that was last night. I bet it was just beautiful.
Our Orem Thiot’s
This was the last week of classes for Pierce before Final’s Week. He had to turn in his portfolio on Friday for entrance into the Creative Program in his major. He said he was very pleased with how it all came together. I loved getting to peak at parts of it last weekend. Charlie, Mackenzie, Keelie and I went to Provo and got to have lunch with Pierce on Monday. We were sorry that Stacy was not feeling good and couldn’t come with. Pierce drove us by the apartment complex where Sky is planning to live next fall. That was fun to see where he will be.
Our New York Elder Thiot
I can’t even tell you how happy I am right now! I just found out the high for today is 70 degrees. Our zone is getting together to play ultimate Frisbee in the park, and we just had conference. Could live getting any sweeter?
This week was amazing. Honestly I don’t remember a lot of what happened. On Saturday though, life started to get great. The baptism for this week got pushed because there weren’t many members who could attend, but that would have been sadder if it wasn’t for conference being so sweet. We watched Saturday A.M. session (which actually starts in the PM here) at the chapel with 14 missionaries and about 10 members. That session was way good. Then we headed over to some Recent Converts in the ward, Mike, Reshma, and Ashley. They are the coolest family you could ever meet. They have BYU TV, so they invited us for curry and roti and some conference. What a session that was. I’m sure life everyone else I loved Elder Holland's talk, I loved how he said, "el diablo" what a great man. I also loved D. Todd's talk on the Bible. It is amazing to hear how people died to give the book to the people who God wanted to have it in the first place. Because of them, we all have it.
We Plano Thiot’s
Dick left Salt Lake on Tuesday to go back to work and catch up a bit before he leaves this evening for a Conference in Denver this coming week. He is teaching a couple of classes as well as attending others. He has been working hard to leave his work and our ward in good running order so he can be away for the week.
I’ve sure enjoyed being in Salt Lake. We’ve had all sorts of weather from cold and snowy to sunny and spring like. Like Texas, it’s having a difficult time deciding which season we are in. I found a book binder to put a new cover on my scriptures. I’m so glad I brought them along and that I can take them home looking much improved. I got to choose any color I wanted and I may now be the one and only owner of Red Scriptures in the entire church. I don’t think I will loose them ever again. They will surely stand out. I’m hoping it might work out for Pierce and Stacy to come up to Sandy for Sunday dinner so I can see them one more time before heading back home on Tuesday morning.
My Dad's brother, Uncle Buddy was in town this last week from California. It was fun to visit with him about the family history work he is doing and catch up on the past few years since I've seen him.
My mom and my sister Laurie and I had a fun day at my Aunt Darlene's with her darling daughter Lisa. We sewed some patriotic table runners. What fun it was to be there together. Thank you Auntie Darlene, a fun project and delicous lunch and great company.
It's been so fun to get to see Laurie's little granddaughters. They stopped by one day and decorated some left over Easter Cookies. They are darling and it was sure fun.
I've loved getting to spend time with Lani. I'm not sure there is anybody much funner than she is. She always makes me smile.
I had part of my heart in Texas this morning when they blessed Ben & Rebecca’s little baby boys. I was wishing I could have been there as I’m sure their Daddy gave them sweet blessings. I’ll see you soon Texas family. Have a wonderful week ya’ll. SLY Robynn

General Conference Edition

Our Mansfield Thiot’s
Our Mansfield Thiot’s are enjoying the spring time weather in Texas. Ricky said it’s been so warm and humid that the colored Easter eggs were almost dripping during their Easter Egg hunt on Easter morning. The little girls both loved hunting for eggs and had a good time. Tatia and Jake joined them for Easter dinner after the Sunday afternoon session of General Conference. Ricky is back on the job hunt after his company downsized last week. He is upbeat and positive that he will find something soon and this will end up being a blessing in disguise. Please keep him and his sweet family in your prayers.
Our Cobre Valle Granges
Tatia and Jake have some great friends who invited them to a Seder dinner on Friday night. They learned a lot about that Jewish Tradition during Passover. They were invited to bring the beef briquette and enjoyed learning to make that. Tatia said they had a very good time. Tatia and her little children she nanny’s had fun dyeing Easter eggs and hiding them on Friday as a practice hunt. She sure knows how to make life fun for 3 little tiny kids.
Our Carmichael Thiot’s
It has been so wonderful to have our Carmichael Thiot’s in Utah this week with us. They left on Thursday after Charlie got off work and drove all night and arrived here at 4:00 in the morning on Friday. They hit two patches of bad weather which made the trip a little longer. They were able to be at the temple bright and early Friday morning with us for my nephew Chase and his beautiful bride Morgan’s temple wedding. It was a cold but beautiful morning. Keelie was such a trooper and got to play with Meagan while we were at the sealing. What an angel Meagan was.
Our Orem Thiot’s
I was trying to count how many trips to Salt Lake Pierce and Stacy have made this weekend. It’s been so fun to see them and get to spend some time together. I do belive my favorite was having them join us at the Children’s museum on Saturday. Stacy brought her camera and was snapping pictures of our Birthday Girl Keelie and my sister Lauries two little granddaughters that came with us too. What a fun place to have your birthday for sure. Pierce, Charlie and Dick were able to attend the Priesthood Session of Conference. They went to the Conference Center and loved every minute of it together. They also got to go our for some sushi which is becoming a fun tradition after Priesthood meeting. Thank you for all your extra efforts and travel time this week. I hope you are feeling better Stacy.
Our New York Elder Thiot
As a missionary, I don’t think there is a better weekend in the year then this upcoming weekend. Its time for General Conference again! For two days, we get to be like every other member of the church and just enjoy the words of the prophet. For 50 Sundays a year, church is freaking hectic for missionaries. We don’t get to much of a chance to relax but are typically to busy running around. But conference is a time we get to kick back and relax, which once ever 26 Sundays, is really welcome. The sweetest news from yesterday is that they announced the ground breaking for the Jamaica chapel. Right now we meet on the second floor of a food court in the middle of Jamaica Center, and now they are going to build a brand new 5 story chapel 2 blocks over on top of a parking lot. We are all way excited to have a real chapel that has a baptismal font. The only problem...it wont be open until 2012. Yikes on bikes..
We Plano Thiot’s
General Conference weekends are my favorites of the year. It’s been wonderful to be here in Salt Lake with our family. I wish they could all have been here. Brooklyn and Addison would have so enjoyed playing with Keelie. You little girls are going to be such great friends as well as cousins as your grow up. Some how cousins just know they belong to each other and for that I am grateful. It was sure extra fun to see so many of our family members at Chase and Morgan’s wedding and reception on Friday. I don’t think I have ever seen so many people attend a reception. Those kids are truly loved. My sister Laurie hosted an Easter Dinner at her lovely home on Easter Sunday. With the new addition of Morgan, we now have 43 members in our BIG Family. We had 30 in attendance at the dinner with 13 excused. It was so fun to be with them all. Keelie just loved being with Laurie’s granddaughters and they were so cute to include her in their fun. Thank you Laurie. I hope you’ve had a good week too. Thank you for sharing mine with me. Sure love ya’ll, Robynn

Conference Takeaways
I wanted to record some of my favorite quotes from General Conference (every six months, the leaders of our church speak about the gospel of Jesus Christ and the issues we face today, including inspiration and counsel).
From Julie Beck, Relief Socity General President:
var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-3059597-4");pageTracker._trackPageview();
"Women should be women and not babies that need petting and correction all the time. I know we like to be appreciated but if we do not get all the appreciation which we think is our due, what matters? We know the Lord has laid high responsibility upon us, and there is not a wish or desire that the Lord has implanted in our hearts in righteousness but will be realized, and the greatest good we can do to ourselves and each other is to refine and cultivate ourselves in everything that is good and ennobling to qualify us for those responsibilities.”
Measuring Success:Good women always have a desire to know if they are succeeding. In a world where the measures of success are often distorted, it is important to seek appreciation and affirmation from proper sources. We are doing well when we develop attributes of Christ and strive to obey His gospel with exactness. We are doing well when we seek to improve ourselves and do our best. We are doing well when we increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen families and homes, and seek out and help others who are in need. We know we are successful if we live so that we qualify for, receive, and know how to follow the Spirit. When we have done our very best, we may still experience disappointments, but we will not be disappointed in ourselves. We can feel certain that the Lord is pleased when we feel the Spirit working through us. Peace, joy, and hope are available to those who measure success properly.
From Elder Bednar, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Ideas for watching over our children...
"(1) reading and talking about the Book of Mormon with your children
(2) bearing testimony of gospel truths spontaneously with your children
(3) inviting children as gospel learners to act and not merely be acted upon
Parents who do these things faithfully will be blessed to recognize early signals of spiritual growth in or challenges with their children and be better prepared to receive inspiration to strengthen and help those children."
From President Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency
"When we are tempted to judge, let us think of the Savior, who “loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. . . .“[And] he saith: Come unto me all ye ends of the earth, . . . [for] all men are privileged the one like unto the other, and none are forbidden.”As I read the scriptures, it appears that those who receive the Savior’s strongest reproach are often those who hold themselves in high esteem because of their wealth, influence, or perceived righteousness. On one occasion the Savior taught a parable of two men who went into the temple to pray. One man, a respected Pharisee, prayed: “God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.”The other man, a hated publican, stood “afar off, [and] would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.”And Jesus said, “I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other.”2In truth, we “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”3 We are all in need of mercy. In that last day when we are called to the judgment bar of God, do we not hope that our many imperfections will be forgiven? Do we not yearn to feel the Savior’s embrace? It seems only right and proper that we extend to others that which we so earnestly desire for ourselves.
--------------
An old Jewish legend tells of two brothers, Abram and Zimri, who owned a field and worked it together. They agreed to divide both the labor and the harvest equally. One night as the harvest came to a close, Zimri could not sleep, for it didn’t seem right that Abram, who had a wife and seven sons to feed, should receive only half of the harvest, while he, with only himself to support, had so much.So Zimri dressed and quietly went into the field, where he took a third of his harvest and put it in his brother’s pile. He then returned to his bed, satisfied that he had done the right thing.Meanwhile, Abram could not sleep either. He thought of his poor brother, Zimri, who was all alone and had no sons to help him with the work. It did not seem right that Zimri, who worked so hard by himself, should get only half of the harvest. Surely this was not pleasing to God. And so Abram quietly went to the fields, where he took a third of his harvest and placed it in the pile of his beloved brother. The next morning, the brothers went to the field and were both astonished that the piles still looked to be the same size. That night both brothers slipped out of their houses to repeat their efforts of the previous night. But this time they discovered each other, and when they did, they wept and embraced. Neither could speak, for their hearts were overcome with love and gratitude.8This is the spirit of compassion: that we love others as ourselves,9 seek their happiness, and do unto them as we hope they would do unto us.10
