Our Mansfield Thiot’s
On Monday night the Mansfield Thiot’s came to our house for dinner and Family night. Uncle Mike and Aunt Kaye were in town for Cousin Pamela’s cute little Oliver’s 3rd birthday. It was so fun to have our BIG table set up in the dining room and have it filled up with people I love. 2009 has been an extra wonderful year for company. October is an extra wonderful month of the year to come and visit Dallas. Our weather was quite cooperative this week. Only a bit of rain and mostly cool temperatures and sunshine. I was so glad Uncle Mike and Aunt Kaye could meet our little granddaughters. They were on their nicest behavior and we had a great time. Have a safe trip home Uncle Mike!
Our Cobre Valle Granges
Tatia had a fun week getting ready for Jakes amazing parents to come for a visit. She fixed a guest room for them and Jake wondered if the upstairs had turned into the Grange’s Marriot. Tatia is amazing. It was fun to get to be her helper. Jakes parents came to town for “The White Coat Ceremony”. Now I’m sure you are thinking, what is that? After the first quarter of medical school, you are given your first white lab coat. It has your name embroidered on it and it was a very wonderful day. I was delighted that Jake invited Dick and I to come too. We have loved having Jeff and Jackie here and getting to know them better. Enjoy your company T& J!

If you have seen Charlie Thiot or his photo’s in the past month, you may not have recognized him. He is sporting quite a beard. Last Friday was the Halloween celebration with his Young Men and Young Women and he wanted to dress as the Wolverine. Oh my goodness, he makes one handsome Wolverine. What a fun time they had at a primary carnival earlier in the week and Keelie came home the winner of 4 gold fish. If you know Keelie at all, she is a big fan of gold fish, the kind you eat that is, but she was amazed with this little fish. The sad news is, only one survived the first night in their new fish bowl. They are down to one gold fish, but he seems to be a survivor. Go Keelie!

This has been a crummy week for Stacy. She has caught the flu and is just now starting to feel better. Being sick is NOT fun. I’m so glad she had Pierce to take good care of her and so glad she didn’t share the flu bug with him. Pierce had a fun afternoon with Grandpa. The green jeep which is 14 years old was having some car trouble. Pierce had visiting with Uncle Jeff and Grandpa on the phone several times and nothing seemed to work. So Grandpa, with the ok from Gram, headed to Orem to see if he could help. Thankfully, Grandpa’s doctor had released him to drive last week. I’m not sure he knew he would go that far from home. He made it fine and in a couple of hours, the two of them had the jeep purring like a sleeping kitty. Ok, not that great, but it’s running again. Happy day. Thanks dad for always being the rescue ranger for me and my kids. We LOVE You!

This was a wonderful week here in Southern Brooklyn! So many times this week I could see the influence of the Lord in the work going on here, and even see a number of miracles happen! One of the highlights of the week was last night. Me and my companion where looking up a referral from a member in upstate. We walked into the building, and realized the door number didn’t exist. Feeling kind of down, I looked over at the door marked "3" and knocked. A man named Nicoli answered and I asked in English if he knew the person he was looking for. He quickly told me he can speak Russian. I immediately reasked the question in Russian, and he looked at me, and asked me how I spoke Russian. He invited us in and I taught my best Russian first lesson from my mission. I didn’t need to pause to think what I wanted to say, and when he asked me a question, and understood every word he spoke. He asked if my parents where Russian, and then I told him I had just lived there for 3 months, and he looked at me and just said, "you sound like a Russian." I was feeling really good while walking home, the gift of tongues is amazing!

I’ve had smile on my face all week counting my blessings to have such a great family. Everyone of these Thiot kids and their great spouses make me smile. Today is the Primary Presentation for our Primary. This year we have talked about My Eternal Family. I am so excited for our program and for our primary children to share the songs they have learned and to do their parts. I must be growing up because I am not just looking forward to having it over, but can’t wait to see our primary in action. And there will be plenty of that on the stand with our 44 wiggly primary children. I love them so much. I hope you’ve had a good week and that you are looking forward to a spookie Halloween next weekend. SLY Robynn

Creative Crafting With Aunt Darlene

Thursday, October 22, 2009

I went out to get the mail tonight and there was a very fun package from Aunt Darlene. While I was in Salt Lake, my mom and I had a wonderful day in Orem with Aunt Darlene and her darling daughter Lisa. When we arrived, Darlene had prepared everything to make 3 fun projects. We made a darling evening bag I got to take with me to the Symphany last Saturday night, a sweet smelling Relax pillow that you can heat in the microwave to soothe tired muscles and some comfy slippers with Pink Butterflys on them. Darlene had to finish the slippers and mail them to me. It made me smile remembering about our very fun day together. Thank you Thank you Aunt Darlene!

What a Famtastic Family Night!

This is my favorite Halloween Story. Ricky did an outstanding job of reading it to us after dinner! Thank you Ricky!
We had the funnest Family Night on Monday night. Uncle Mike and Aunt Kaye are in town for little Oliver's 3 year old birthday. We were so delighted when they had a free evening and could come to our house for dinner. We were sorry that Clayton had to work late. We missed him. It was so fun to have Ricky and Becky and their darling girls come and Tatia and Jake too. Family is the very best. What a treat it was to have them come. We love you so very much! After dinner, Ricky read us my favorite Halloween Story. The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything. So very fun! Thank you Tatia for being the magic photographer. Monday night is going to be a favorite memory of mine for ever and always!

The flu has been making it’s way across town and Ricky was the lucky winner of the feeling crummy award this week. He was sent home from work on Tuesday with instructions to not come back until he was feeling good again. He snoozed most of the day and was feeling quite a bit better the next day. I was the lucky winner to get to watch the girls on Tuesday when Becky got her hair cut. I didn’t know Ricky was home sick, until I got there. We made him stay away from us girls and stay in his room. I’m so glad he’s doing better. Funny story. I was rocking Addison and feeding her a bottle and Brooklyn decided that she would like to rock a bye with us. So, no problem, I picked her up and added her to my lap. Now the funny part was, Brooklyn did not come alone. She had her stuffed cat Larry with her and her little penguin. Now that’s not to much for a Grammy to hold, is it? Now for the crazy part. In comes my Grandpup Rocky, he jumps up on my now almost filled up lap and wants to rock with us too. Just then, Brooklyn and I got the giggles and we couldn’t stop laughing. I don’t know how Ricky slept through it but he did. I love Grandkids. As soon as Becky got home, Brooklyn turns to me and says, “Grammy you can go home now, Mommy’s home.” I was a good fill in for mom but there is nothing as great as the real thing
Our Cobre Valle Granges
Tatia had a fun day off this week when the children she nanny’s for had their Grandma come to town. Their daddy has gone bear and elk hunting in Colorado and so his mom came to help their mom. Tatia got to stay home on Wednesday and since neither of us felt like cleaning we voted that the other c word would be more fun. CRAFTING! My sister had sent the instructions for Pumpkins made with a roll of toilet paper. Check out Tatia’s blog for a fun photo and you can look on Clines Corner for the step by step instructions. So very fun, fast and cute. Thanks Tatia for coming for the fun time we had. Next weekend is the “White Coat Ceremony” at South Western Medical School. Jakes parents are flying to Dallas on Thursday night and will get to stay until Tuesday. We are all looking forward to seeing them. Tatia has had fun getting their room ready for them. What fun to have company come to town.

When I turned on my computer this morning, there was an e-mail from Charlie. Charlie Thiot knows how to put a smile on his mom’s face. There was the cutest video of Miss Keelie with her doll cradle that we gave her for her one year old birthday. She is rocking her baby. I’m going to post the link and hope you can see it too. http://picasaweb.google.com/ChazThiot/RecentlyUpdated?authkey=Gv1sRgCOziyZDll_LfnAE&feat=email#5393791042258459266 I hope it works and you can see it too. Thanks Charlie and Mackenzie for being such cute parents to my sweet little Keelie. She’s going to grow up to be a wonderful parent just like the two of you are being to her.

Pierce and Stacy have been counting down to October 16th for months. Why you may ask, well it’s the opening day of Where the Wild Things Are. Pierce loved that story has a little boy and now the movie is out and he loved that too. He did give a warning. It’s not a movie for little ones. Please be at least 8 to go see it. I can hardly wait to see it too. I found my copy of the book on the bookshelf and have enjoyed reading it. Pierce got some good news this week. He applied to get into the Advertizing Program at BYU and was accepted. He starts in January! Way to go PIERCE!!!!

What a great week this has been! Brooklyn is still the greatest place on earth, and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! The people here are so awesome, and the weather hasn’t been to bad either! Today is the coldest day so far and its only 55 degrees, not to bad.

This week marks the 25th Anniversary of the Dallas Temple. On April 1, 1981, the announced that a temple would be built in Dallas Texas. Dick and I moved to Dallas in May and were blessed to watch the building of the Dallas Temple. It took several years. We enjoyed driving to the temple site and watching it grow. We loved the summer Mike and Laurie and their 3 little kids came and stayed with us while Mike worked on the temple. It was a great blessing to our family to see the temple built and to get to attend it. Each of our 5 kids have been blessed to attend the Dallas Temple first to do baptisms and then to receive their own temple blessings. For the past four years, I’ve spent each Friday afternoon serving in the temple. I love the temple and tonight Dick and I were invited to the 25th Anniversary Fireside. It was a spiritual feast to be there with so many temple workers and past temple presidents. My heart was so happy being there tonight. I have been blessed to attend many different temples in my life, but I have to say, ours is my very favorite. Maybe because we watched it being built, maybe because we got to contribute to the building fund, maybe because so many people who work there I love, I’m not sure, but I do love it. I’m so glad we could go tonight. Thank you Dick for arranging to go with me. I love you!

When our plane landed at DFW airport on Saturday afternoon, Dick quick called Ricky to see if he and his girls might be available to join us for lunch. They had already made plans to go to the Bass Pro Shop to watch the fish be fed. The good news is that that Bass Pro Shop is right by the airport so it worked. Tatia and Jake were coming to the airport to pick us up and so we had sort of a Texas Thiot family reunion at On the Border for lunch fajitas. Yummy! I loved getting to see Brooklyn and Addison. We were remembering that it had been two years ago right now, that we also had met for lunch and that Brooklyn had let me hold her for the first time without crying. I’m so glad she doesn’t cry now and that we have become good friends. Oh, how I love those tiny girls.

This week was letter F week with Tatia’s little children, and off they went looking for frogs and fish on Thursday afternoon. They were able to rescue a fish who had washed up on the banks of the creek after some big rain and they did bring home lots of MUD. Tatia wasn’t sure the mud part was too fun, but I promised her those little children would remember a happy nanny who let them frolick in the mud and have a good time. Jake had a good week and finished one of his classes. His parents and the rest of his siblings were all together in Salt Lake for conference last week and I think he was wishing he could have been there too. I’m so glad those Granges are sharing him with us. Tatia and Jake were able to attend the wedding and sealing at the Dallas Temple for Kristin Willardson and her hubby Adam on Saturday morning. Dick and I tried hard to catch the earlier flight home to make it but no luck. It was packed full. We did get to attend the reception of that darling couple. What fun!

Charlie made me laugh when I called him on Saturday day afternoon to tell him Dick and I had arrived home safe and sound. He said, “Oh Thank you Mom, now I can quit worrying about you.” We have an unwritten rule in our family, that when you go on a trip or leave town to PLEASE call and report in when you arrive home. I’m sure I must always say, “Oh Thank you for calling, now I can quit worrying about you.” It made me smile to have the rolls reversed. Charlie and Mackenzie and Keelie were at a friends home helping them sort through some things and take some loads to the DI. While at my parents, I was helping my dad straighten the food storage room. I always LOVED that job when I was young as it was like working in a grocery store, getting the shelves all organized and looking good. We found a few unusual items in the food storage room that I told my dad might be better stored at the DI. He wasn’t too amused with my ability to get rid of his “Stuff” he promised me a visit to my house to help me get rid of my “Stuff”. It’s much easier to part with somebody else’s “stuff” than our own some how.

I so enjoyed getting to spend time with Pierce and Stacy this week. What a darling couple they are and what a lovely place they have to live in. They live in the basement of Stacy’s aunt’s home. She has a 3 story home where she and her Mom, Stacy’s grandma Bille live. The cultisack has 3 other homes where her aunts children (Stacy’s cousins) live. There is a playground, a amazing play house and even a huge volleyball court in the cultisack. At any given time, there are several small children out riding big wheels and having a good time. As you can only imagine, they LOVE Pierce. Pierce has a great connection with kids, maybe because like his dad, he is a big kid in a grown up body. He is the official lawn mower and soon to be snow plower of the cultisack. It’s not too tuff with a riding mower and plow and the kids LOVE to ride along with him. He loves it too. Dick got to attend his ultimate Frisbee game on Tuesday night and said, not to brag, but Pierce is the best player on the team. It was great fun for Dick to get to cheer him on to victory. We loved getting to spend time with you cute Orem Thiot’s.

What a week! This was such a great week! I can’t even believe that it is October and conference has come and gone. The only bad news is now the suit coats have come back, and I won’t get to walk around with no jacket for 6 months, but with the weather cooling off, it’s not too bad. It’s amazing that with conference, I can sit watching the prophet, and know that my friends and family around the world are watching the same thing at the same time. It was really a confrentastical feeling!

I was right, this week went byway to fast. I wish I could have had time to visit everybody I love that lives in Utah, but another time. It was wonderful to get to spend time with family this time. It seems like we hit the ground running on Saturday. Dick had a young man waiting for his final interview to get his mission papers in. Always a wonderful time for a Bishop. I hope you had a great week too. Happy Fall ya’ll! SLY Robynn

General Conference Edition

Ricky spent the week in Oklahoma City at a training seminar. He missed his girls and they sure missed him. Maybe that’s the best part of being away, to know how wonderful home is and help you appreciate it even more. Becky was a trouper and did a super job taking care of home and Brooklyn was a good helper too. They are looking forward to General Conference Weekend. It’s a wonderful time to get to hear the words of the Prophets and Apostles right in our homes. I had a fun time putting together some Conference Kits for my kids and grandkids. I just love General Conference and am so glad they do too.
Our Cobre Valle Granges
Jake and Tatia have had a good week. Tatia brought her little kids to my home on Thursday and we had a fun time crafting. Two of the medical student’s wife’s are expecting babies and she has been invited to a baby shower for them and so we made some fun little gifts for them. We did learn that 3 little kids are not the very best helpers but they sure wanted to help. Fun times!

On Friday, Charlie celebrated his 27th Birthday! October 2nd is a very great day in our family. Charlie is a very important member of our family and such a good man. I’ve loved being his mom and watching him grow up. I hope you had an extra special birthday Charlie. I know he was excited that Mackenzie’s family gave him some gear to go rock climbing. He has sure enjoyed all the fun outdoor things there are to do in the Sacramento area. Be Careful Char! Mackenzie is busy with her new church calling as Enrichment leader. She’s enjoying getting better acquainted with the sisters in her ward and is looking forward to what the new changes made in last week’s General Relief Society Broadcast will bring to her calling. She’s had fun making some things for an upcoming craft fair. It’s always hard to know if what you make will sale. I wish you great success Kenzie. If you haven’t seen our Keelie singing popcorn popping on the apricot tree, you may want to take a peek on their blog. So very cute Keelie!

Pierce and Stacy picked Dick and me up at the airport on Friday night. It was sooooooo fun to see them and to get to stay at their lovely home. They have it fixed up so cute and they are such a fun couple. We got to watch Saturday conference with them and then we drove around the Alpine loop and saw the Gorgeous Autumn colors in the canyon. That was almost as wonderful as an additional session of General Conference. It just makes me feel such joy to see those mountains all painted for fall. Dick and Pierce and my dad got to go to the Conference Center for the Priesthood Session and then they went out for sushi. Poor grandpa hadn’t had wasabi before and he took too big of a taste. YIKES!

This was an amazing week here in Brooklyn. We had a ton of opportunities to teach new people, and share the good news! And that’s what it is all about. Yesterday Mendy and Phales were confirmed, and it was an amazing experience. Afterwards they were telling me they could feel a real difference from having the gift of the Holy Ghost. So sweet! We also got to visit a lot of the members house and present a new member missionary work plan. They are such an amazing ward, and they are always helping us teach and retain. During the sacrament yesterday I was looking at all the new people that are attending the church, it helps me realize how great missionary work is! I love it out here!
We Plano Thiot’s
This was an extra busy week for both Dick and I getting ready to be gone for a week. Dick tried to get everything for the ward in good shape to get along while he was gone and everything at work to get along without him too. Fortunately for cell phones and computers, he can do his jobs wherever he is in this world.
It’s always fun to come to Utah. I’m so glad it worked out that we could come this week. It seems like time goes twice as fast when you land here than it does in Texas. I’m sure going to enjoy every minute. There have been some new babies born that I’m hoping to get to meet and I’m hoping to be Mom’s driver for her doctors appointments and just enjoy time with her and dad.
I hope you get to enjoy General Conference this weekend too and that you can feel the love our Heavenly Father has for all of us. SLY Robynn
