Hello From Historic Washington Missouri

Answers from Elder Thiot
1. Okay, the first question is, Where are You? Were your transferred or are you still in the sweet city of St. Louie? If Yes skip question 3, If no proceed to 2
well, i am guessing that you got my letter in the mail saying i very well could be transferred! and sure enough, i did get transferred! but not without a lot of crazy exciting fun things happening in my last week in South St. Louis. first things first, im in Washington, MO. it is west-southwest of St Louis, and my area is the size of Franklin County. thats the county i live in and we cover all that. dude, im in the country! okay, now back to my crazy week! some sweet things have been goin on with just about all of our investigators, and it made me really REALLY sad to leave them. First of all, Jamie and Lamont. i dont know how much i have told yall about them. they are friends with Maurice and we started teaching them because Maurice. well, we taught all 3 of them the Plan of Salvation. I was on teamups with a member named Bro. Jacobs. he got home from his mission same day as Charlie and he just got married in August. well, anywho, we taught the first half of the lesson and talked a lot about charity. it was so sweet. Jamie and Lamont were asking all the right questions and things were going well and the Spirit was so there and our member was so funny and things went just about perfect. then i went on teamups on Friday afternoon with one of the Assistants to the President, and we finished up the lesson. Jamie loved it, said how much sense it made, and she even said she felt the Church was true. o DANG thats awesome. so then on Saturday night, we were on teamups with the Spanish Elders (i know, this is a lot of teamups, but it was sweet) and me and Elder Bale went back and Jamie was there, but Lamont was asleep in the other room (he works nights). Well, we watched Finding Faith in Christ with Jamie and had a nice talk with her. she told us how after we left the other day, her and Lamont were in a small disagreement of sorts. well, Lamont looked at her and said "i dont want to argue anymore after those Elders came over". so that was sweet, and they are really starting to see the blessings that come when families follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ. and lani, you know how you sent me those books? well, i gave Jamie one, and she has been reading it to her 2 year old, Isaiah. Maurice has been listening to the Book of Mormon on CD, and really starting to like that, too. he got his first paycheck from his new job, payed his rent and bills and didnt have a whole lot of money left, but he went out and bought some new shirts to wear to Church! its awesome, its INCREDIBLE. so that all happened within a few days of eachother. the Lord is really working hard on these people. now onto Thomas Butler and his Grandma Mary Butler: Thomas is 13 and i dont remember how much i have told you about him, but a week and a half ago he got into some trouble at school because of his grades. well, his grandma had me sit him down and talk to him to see if he wanted to stay at school, work hard, and not lie about it, or go to a private school. well, he decided he wanted to stay and listen to his grandma, and we started coming over every day to help him with his homework. Thomas has always sat in when we taught his grandma, but had never really been excited or even wanted to hear anything about the Church. he has been going to Youth Activities for 2 months now, and then on Monday i went to his home on teamups with one of the Zone Leaders (these were all scheduled teamups, dont think i was trying to get away from my comp), and Thomas prayed for the first time and HOLY TOMATERS was it an awesome prayer! like i cant even begin to tell you how heartfelt it was. well on Tuesday night (my final night in the area), we went with the Bishop to their home. The Bishop had a good talk with Mary and i helped Thomas with Science homework. we started talking about church and he asked me "how do you get baptized?" then his Grandma told the Bishop that they wanted to start coming to Church every week. Thomas said he wanted to find out if he wanted to get baptized. man, it was tough leaving this area. well, Mary said that her and Thomas would come out to Washington to see me. thats that. so those are the awesome stories of what happened before i left. now for the crazy one: (this actually happened to the Spanish Elders but im going to tell it from the first person point of view) me and my companion were riding home on friday night and we were almost to our apartment when we heard 7 loud shots. it sounded like metal landing on the ground or something. or maybe it was gunshots. well, anyways, we werent sure at the time. then we saw three guys come running down the alley at full speed from the area where the noise came from and run into an apartment. we were thinking "were those gunshots?" well, we would find out soon enough because three cop cars came racing up really soon, and asked us where they went, so we pointed and showed them. then the helicopters with the spotlights showed up looking for people. turns out they were gunshots and there was a murder. well, the cops asked us to stay so we could answer questions and it was a crazy fiasco. President was pretty freaked out about the whole thing and called Salt Lake because he didnt know what to do. thats about the whole story up until now. crazy, huh? well, now im here in crime free Washington
2. Who is your new companion? Where is he from, How long has he been out?
My new companion is flippin' INCREDIBLE. his name is Elder Thompson from Montana! he is a lot like Elder Atherton. im way excited to be serving with him and i look forward to everything about being here. he has been out for over a year and a half. he is an awesome missionary. really obedient and really excited to be on his mission. dang, im lucky to have him. we have a full time car. its a malibu. 2004. i drive. hes black dot.

Pierce Letter - 10/13/2005

StLouis CardinalsOctober 13, 2005
Hi there from Elder Pierce Jackson Thiot
How are YOU, Elder Pierce Jackson Thiot? How the heck do you think I am? GOSH. Life is great in STL. The leaves are changing and the cardinals are still playing! Our investigator Matthew McCoy offered us tickets to yesterdays game, but we told him that as much as I would like to, we had to decline to be obedient, which he liked to hear that, too. The weather is really nice right now. Today we went to the Catholic Basilica in downtown St. Louis. We went to the Mass there. This Basilica is HUGE and very spacious, too! It was very interesting for us to go to that as a district.
Have you received the package Lani sent with the items from the Distribution Center that was on your wish list? O TOUGH I haven’t gotten that yet. Thank you in advance, however! I really appreciate it, Lani YOU are pretty much the sweetest EVER
What day do you get Gram’s letters, she was wondering? I think on Fridays or maybe Thursdays. I think. I haven’t paid too much attention to that. I will let you know for sure grammy. So I guess I can type a quick note to gram right here: hey, thanks for all my AWESOME letters! I love reading what the other 2 missionaries have to say about their missions and the different difficulties that come with mission life wherever you are. I still think its so cool that we have 2 missionaries in Missouri right now, but only one of us is in the sweetest mission (which is mine, by the way). Also, tell grandpa thanks for all of his letters that he writes. Guess who wrote me this week gram! Your son Jeff Birks! Dang, it made my day. (thanks Taita, for helping him with that)
Where are you in your Book of Mormon Study? I am in Alma 30. Way to go Grammy on your study! Helamen 6? Sounds like Elder Eyring all reading ahead and everything.
Did you get your pics and card back? I’m sorry I may have printed the wrong numbers. The machine I used was not working right. I can try again if you would like me to. I saved them onto a CD. Yeah, I got the pictures! Thanks! Im just glad that you got them otay and they all turned out. I think the numbers were off a bit when we printed them. But its otay. I just want some pictures that I can send to people in the mail. I took quite a few pictures. It is nice to have a digital camera. I hope you liked the video of me tracting. I would like one more thing sent in the mail, and I think that this will be the last thing for quite some time: my black jacket from old navy that looks like it is wool. That would be a great jacket here for tracting in the winter time. It gets cold here at night.
Can you tell us about an experience you had this week where the Holy Ghost was your guide?Ummm, like every second of every day! Well, we went to this media referrals home that we had set up an appointment with, and all we knew about him was that he was a man, and he sounded foreign on the phone. Well, we got to his home and rang the doorbell like 5 times and knocked hard, but no one came. We could see someone in there, but it seemed like they were ignoring the door. We were kinda bummed, but instead of giving up on the guy, we felt like we should keep trying and went to a member home and called him on the phone. He said he just could not hear us, so he met us out side a few minutes later. Turns out the guy is from Jamaica and is here working. His family is back home, but we taught him and three of his friends and it was really neat. We got to go back and teach a second lesson as well! After we leave their home, I always want to say stuff like “YES, MON” and “ALRIGHT, MON!” and then I want to watch Cool Runnings, but I don’t do that. Also, its amazing how the Spirit can guide your study. I always find answers to questions that our investigators have and am able to share what the scriptures say with them.
How are you sweet investigators doing? Is the baptism still set for the 23rd? Matthew came to church again on Sunday and really liked this week again. We had an appointment on the previous Friday with him, and after we left, he decided that he wanted to read the Book of Mormon so that he would know what people were talking about at church, and that he wouldn’t have to have assignments before he would read, and so he could gain a testimony. Then he came to church on Sunday and he heard President Hinckley’s challenge over the pulpit for the first time and he was talking with me after Elders Quorum and was saying how crazy he thought it was that a day after he decided the read the Book of Mormon, he finds out our Prophet wants all of us to read! That is pretty cool. Well, Maurice is the guy with Oct 23 for his date and he wasn’t able to come to church this week because he got called into work last minute even though he had asked off. But we have an appointment with him tonight and he is going to give me a haircut. Im gonna have him cut a part in my hair, or like shave LDS or CTR in the back of my hair. I thought that would be pretty cool. <
Did you get the latest edition of Preaching Fourth? Was that fun? I hope you mean the ward missionary update, cause I sure did get that and I sure did love it! It was great to hear from all the missionaries. Me jerry and blake have kept in pretty good contact so far. I got a letter from jerbear earlier this week, and an email from blake today. I cant believe he is almost gone! And Justin martin is about to get his call any day now? WHOA BABY! Plano 4th ward rocks.Well, once again I have talked way too long and must get running! I appreciate all the letters and prayers from everyone. Congratulations Josh and Merijane. I know you already know this, but Pierce Jackson is a really strong name for a baby. Its good stuff. Charlie, I like the story you now have about being run over. That’s cool. I got run over once. Ok now I have a question: what the heck is up with Plano Football? Something is just not right. Im happy that skyler is having fun with all of it though. I also got a letter from tatia this week and sounds like she is just about as busy and happy as a gal can be. Take care family. In the words of Joe Dirt, "life's a garden: DIG IT"
