Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time

~Steven Wright

When I got home today I needed to deliver an order to Essential Lotions & Oils on Hawthorne that I missed at work today. I also walked a letter that was misdelivered to the house to another house on 32nd with the same house number. I brought my camera along and snapped shots all the way.

Start out on the front porch. The Minion.
min-ion [min-yuhn]

n.
1. a servile follower or subordinate of a person in power.

A cool painted sticker on Hawthorne.

A singing yellow amoeba.

I share the road with Satanic Bicyclists.

The king says rawk. HEAVY F-N METAL!!!

Dying to become what we once despised. This one wraps around the pole a bit more and is very cool.
Thanks JoeCollver, thespeak, Lewis Barrett and samgrover.

I love this poster for a show by Hello Damascus. The tethered birds look awesome.

A shop on Hawthorne.

Cubs Suck!

Another beautiful bird sticker. This person sure does get around.

Felix the Catsayss "Hi!"

Meow! (Translation, Hi!)

WTF? Reminded me of this. This hat is hanging at the LB on the wall above the beer cooler. I had not noticed until today. It hangs among cheap tools, more hats and bikini clad women on advertisements for malt liquors.

Maynard Ferguson: May 4, 1928 - August 23, 2006

Maynard Ferguson
May 4, 1928 - August 23, 2006

Maynard Ferguson passed away Wednesday, at the age of 78. In a statement released by his management that read in short: Walter "Maynard" Ferguson, one of the most influential musicians and band leaders in the history of Jazz, passed away August 23rd at 8:00 pm Pacific Time at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California. He was 78 years old. His death was the result of kidney and liver failure brought on by an abdominal infection. Mr. Ferguson's four daughters, Kim, Lisa, Corby, Wilder and other family members were at his side when he passed away after this brief illness.

Maynard had a Grammy nomination for his trumpet playing on the song "Gonna Fly Now" which you may know as the theme to the movie Rocky.

Check out this amazing rendition of "Round Midnight at Youtube.com. Blew me away!

Finishing Saturday was a Goal that Was Tough to Meet

Well here are the remaining pictures I took from the sticker walk on Saturday. These are almost all on Belmont or Hawthorne from 28th to 39th. A few are cool and some are just interesting observations. I hope you like them.

I think this is really cute. It is the mouth of a driveway and the whole width is painted with birds, flowers and butterflies. It's an interesting effect and quite aesthetically pleasing.

Cool paint job on an otherwise boring 1992 Ford Escort wagon.

"Hey don't worry it's totally safe, I got one of them Crypto-thingy locks. Can't cut through them things ever."

"Are you Sarah Conner?" I did not realize this hydrant looked like a robot till just now. The Core!

I love the Mini. Pretty sure I wouldn't fit in one though.

This tree was dripping red, orange and yellow sap all over it. It was far more fascinating looking at it than the picture makes it seem.

Hate these things, don't you?

Here Lies a Man of Whom Little is Known

That's right, your eyes do not deceive you, that is a new Iron Maiden album cover you see. Listening to it right now and it is @#%! awesome. I have not liked any of their albums since, crap, 1984's Powerslave. I have heard songs off of the albums that lead up to this one but I have not felt compelled to listen all the way through. This one is holding my attention.

Youtube Video of The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg

Also, Culture Bully has a download of the song Different Word posted at his blog.

You too can feel and hear everything Prince touches

I bumped into Miss Labia Merange again last night. She had just gotten back from a private party with His Majesty Prince. She brought it to my attention that Prince demanded I remix a song of my choosing from his back catalog. In exchange I was to receive, get this, his Yellow Cloud Guitar. Needless to say when appointed a task of this nature one does not drag one's heels, so I got right to it and remixed "Darling Nikki". I offer it up here for your downloading appreciation.

Enjoy.

Are you serious or is it a bad rumor because even the developers said it was on STICKERS!

OMG! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS! STICKERS!

MEAT TUBES. Seeing these guys all over now. Doing research on this helped me find this in born1945's flickr stream. Found nothing but came across references of a DJ Meat Tube.

MUM. Love the colors and of course the flailing devil horns. Metal baby.

The first of many of SPUD stickers on Belmont. A spray can.

Another of our old friend amoeba.

SLANG. A very solitude face on the garbage can in front of the BofA on Hawthorne.

Another SPUD. A pig dressed in a cops hat. How clever.

Very cool larger MERK.

A faded amoeba with SPUD's tag below it.

RIP MOM 2006. Not quite sure what to make of this simple postal sticker.

A little less sticker and more stencil but neat anyway. Dinosaurs are cool.

SERC bot. I saw a lot of SERCs today.

Everything you do makes a difference. Yeah especially to me when I am bored and out looking for cool stickers.

Dia de los Muertos. I love the stylized skull.

God thinks your band sucks. So do I.

Hold On! Im Commin! Looks like the same person who does the bunnies. TOER

The bunny suit is the shit.

Looks like Gordie has been busy. The heart looks familiar doesn't it?

Another SERC.

And another amoeba.

Oh No! A filthy what?

Another amoeba. What is that 3? 4?

Not a sticker but the right size it's one of Nascar Dad's favorites, METER. He will like the Censored stencil if he sees this. Perhaps this could be his way of combating the graffiti in North Portland. Wouldn't you rather see this?

Last but not least, it is my fantasy girl Katie and our little Nerd friend. Thank you Katie.

Wow. That was a lot. I will post a second entry with the rest of the shots I took today. Stickers and Stencils YEAH!

Good luck will come to those who dig around

This milk carton was kicking around work for a few days until Katie asked what the hell was up with it? I said I wanted to take a photo of it because I thought it looked like the cow on the left was standing and grazing in the road. She didn't see it and basically said, WTF? raised an eyebrow and threw it back down and walked away shaking her head. Bare with me though, don't you see it? Here let me embelish it a bit.

Now can't you see the cow in the road? Silly cow!

One Man's Art...

Apparently Nascar Dad thinks this was Ugly and this is better. I will agree with ND on most of his posts but graffiti will never go away and his big whitewashed spots all over the place are just as ugly. I just hope I beat him to the good stuff. I will also no longer be posting where I find any new art from here on out.

Anyway his blog has a few good examples of art, here's another pill. Music Iz Medz.
