The kid with the silver teeth

If you will recall my post from last January regarding the dentist, http://http//thewrighttrips.blogspot.com/2011/01/dentist.html you will see how Isabel and Jonah were both a hot mess. It DID NOT go well. Jasper was great! At the time, Jasper & Isabel both had some cavities. I'm thinking one or two a piece. Fast forward a year later and their loser of a mom not taking them back to get their cavities filled. That would be me. I'm not sure if I was scarred from the first dentist trip or what. But the whole dentist thing slipped my mind. And in the last few months Izzy & Jasper have both complained about some aching in their teeth.

A few weeks ago I made an appointment to take Jasper. I decided this time that I would take them individually. That is a lot of appointments but I'd rather do that than trying to keep them all happy at once. So off Jasper went. He did great again! He did exactly what they told him and didn't whine or cry. We left with the news that he has 2 cavities. I expected that. After the appointment we went and got a milk (for him...Diet Pepsi for me, of course) and a Kit Kat; probably not the best choice after a diagnosis of 2 cavities. But hey, I had to do something fun so he would continue his positive outlook on the dentist.

Last week it was Isabel's turn. She acted fine on the way there. The hygienist called her name and off she went without me. About 5 minutes later they came and got me. "She has some anxiety and wont stop asking for you" is what the lady said. I went back and held her hand. She asked 3000 questions. She shook like she was having a seizure. Isabel has always had "shaking" issues. But when she's really scared, look out! She cried, pulled away, cried some more, tried to get out the chair, etc. The dentist came in, took a look and started rattling off tooth names to the hygienist. I said, "Those aren't all the teeth that have cavities, are they?" Her response, "Yes. She has quite a few." Are you waiting in anticipation for the number of cavities she has? Are you? S I X! Six stinking cavities. Do kids even have that many teeth? I'm joking. They give me the news that they weren't going to treat her there. They referred me to a pediatric dentist because of how high her anxiety was. We went ahead and made the appointment for Jonah with the pediatric dentist as well. I figured his reaction would be like last year. This morning was their appointments. Jonah did FANTASTIC! I was shocked. He even repeatedly gagged while she was trying to put the things in his mouth to take x-rays and never cried once! And he's the only one who doesn't have have cavities!

They did x-rays again on Isabel and she jerked out the thing they put in her mouth. She cried. They had to take a couple of pictures because she wouldn't hold still or do what they said. And then the dentist looked at her teeth. Just looked! She freaked and cried and said she wanted me. I was standing right there. I had to stand up right by the dentist's face so she could look up at me. They told her if she didn't stop crying that I would have to leave the room. She reached her hand up and pushed his hand away from her face. He said, "You need to put your hands down please." Meanwhile I'm sweating and praying we don't get kicked out of the dentist because of my belligerent daughter.

The diagnosis is that she has to have 6 teeth crowned...silver crowns. You know, those crowns you see on kids and you think, "Oh, pitiful thing." The good news? They are in the back so at least her front teeth wont be silver. There is a possibility that 2 more will have to be crowned. He'll know when he gets started. The other news? She'll be sedated during this. I have to give her something to settle her stomach an hour before and when we get there they will sedate her. It will be conscious sedation. There is a possibility that she'll remember some things. And he told me she may cry and if so, I could go to my car if I need to so I don't hear it. I'm thinking maybe the local bar? And if she fights them, they will have to use a papoose. In other words, a straight jacket. And from her previous antics, I foresee that happening. Oh Lord.

7 Years

Today would be Elijah & Olivia's birthday. They would have been 7 years old. Wow! 7 years old! I think of them often and miss them dearly. I know they were only here for a few brief moments but they sure did make an impact on our lives. The triplets are at the age where they sometimes ask me about them. I've never made it a secret that they have a brother and sister in heaven. I know it is hard for them to understand why they are there and not here. It's hard for me to understand. But I know they are in a place where there is no grief or sorrow. I know they are in a place that is more beautiful than anyone can imagine. I know they are with Jesus...probably nestled in his arms or playing with other children.

I appreciate the people who remember them and their short time here. It means so much to know that they are not forgotten. My mom & step-dad make donations several times a year in memory of Elijah & Olivia. And when I get a card in the mail that says, "A donation has been made to the Henry County Community Foundation in honor and memory of Elijah & Olivia Wright", it makes me smile. And when I get a phone call or a message that says, "Just want you to know we are thinking about you on this day", it makes me glad. For those special moments, thank you.

So, happy birthday sweet angels! You are loved and missed dearly and NEVER forgotten.

The Children's Museum

My girlfriend, Courtenay, and I tried to take our kids a few places before school started last year. We have the best times when we are all together. Her boys are great and my kids absolutely love being around them. One of our adventures was to the Children's Museum. This was a lot smaller museum than most. However, it was perfect for us. We could actually sit down and pretty much know where the kids were at all times. When there isn't a lot of adults to chaperon, this is perfect!

Mud Slingin'

This little boy...

had a really fun afternoon this past summer.

He took all of the sand out of their sand box (shovel after shovel) and put some in water to make mud (kind of) to work on his house. The sand box was located several feet from his house and he carried each shovel full over. He's a hard worker...I have to give him credit for that. I wasn't angry because you know what? It washes off with a few rains. And he had a blast working all afternoon on it.

Yes, it is ridiculous how far behind I am. I'm not sure exactly what is going on with me. If you have spare energy, send some my way. By the time summer comes along I'll hopefully have the Christmas pics up!

Checking out a local band that we know on the 4th. This is the kids with Brittanie...our friends' daughter.
