A visit to the NEW library!
The old Vancouver library was pretty ghetto if I might say so myself: a definite bum get away. But this new place? W. O. W. The entire children’s floor is amazing complete with odd sculpture thingy's…
… imaginative play…
… and fun activities!
It also has beautiful sun deck.
And here’s a perfect picture of Allie’s monkey crawl that will hopefully only last a few more weeks!
Happy birthday Allie! You’re ONE!
We sure love our crazy blond, blue-eyed baby and her opened mouth kisses. She brings such a spirit of sweetness to our home and there is nothing better than having two girls to play together! Sisters are the best. Allie’s always getting in Malia’s space, she mimics her big sister’s play, and loves to sing and dance to sister’s music and silly songs. Not sure on her exact stats, but Allie seems tallish, I am sure weighs 20+lbs, wears 12-18mo. clothes, oh and here’s some good news… her skin is starting to tan! Hooray! I am so glad that she won’t be our fair, easy to burn baby. (But between her and Aaron, we go through sunscreen like crazy!)
I know it’s probably trashy that Allie’s hangin’ outside with nothing but a diaper on, but she just gets so messy! Every time she eats, (which she’s eating everything now including whole milk), she goes through a new shirt; when outside, she crawls around and just gets so filthy! So… some days I just think… why even put clothes on?!?
We’ve also been trying to get Allie to walk. We like to do so many outdoor activities that sometimes it would be so much easier for her to just get up and go. So… we’ve been practicing outside with some push toys. Why outside you ask? She doesn’t like to crawl on the pavement so she stays up! Lately I can hold her hand and she will waddle beside me. She seems to be learning fast. She would love to run around and play with the neighborhood kids so I hope she gets a walkin’ soon. She loves watching them play, and dances to their chant: “Allie! Allie! Allie!” Poor girl gets really frustrated when she can’t run and play with all the other kids. Speaking of frustration, this girl can through a mean tantrum! You know… the kind where she throws herself, head butts the nearest nose, and screams at the top of her lungs. Yup, that’s our baby.
As for some other random stuff… she hardly nurses, sometimes I give in to help her get down at night. She hasn’t been so good at sleeping through the night lately, wakes up 2-3 times per night, but most always goes back down once rocked and pacified (yup, she still uses a binkie). I guess I should also mention that she has a special pink blanket and yellow duck she likes to caress while sleeping. Allie had her first splinters the other night: screamed as I plucked them out. She has 5, almost 6 teeth (two on the bottom, the other four on top). She loves playing at the park, swinging and going down the slide. She doesn’t cry any more either when we rid our bikes. Oh, and Allie loves to eat dirt.

Allie’s 1st LUAU!
We celebrated Allie’s first birthday yesterday with some of our dearest friends and neighbors from the Cedar-Ridge-Sac! We do so much together here in this part of our neighborhood and since they all have been a big part in Allie’s growing up, we decided to keep it a small and “close to home” celebration with them, the grandparents, and of course Auntie Laura.
Friday was filled with all sorts of preparation from cleaning the house and garage, to decorating, to getting a head-start on the food. But… let me tell ya! It’s hard to get ready for such a big event AND keep both kids occupied. At one point in time I had to look around the house for Allie because it was much too quiet. She had crawled behind the couch, climbed into her old bumbo seat, and was munching on some cranberries (and almonds… uh oh!) that she found stashed in my work bag. I hadn’t noticed that she was even aware of the ‘behind the couch clutter!’
While cleaning out the garage we found Nana’s johnny-jump-up that kept Allie occupied all of 5min before she realized she couldn’t touch anything in the pantry.
But… it was a productive day: we got the house cleaned, the garage organized, made 4 batches of potato-mac salad, baked 72 coconut cream cupcakes, roasted 16lbs of pork butt, and cooked up some delicious haupia.
Saturday morning we woke up early to shred the pig and decorate.
And just before the party started we finished the last minute food preparations including our teriyaki chicken in a home-made teriyaki sauce. We had such a delicious spread: rice, potato-mac salad, pineapple, haupia, teriyaki chicken and kalua pig.
Pretty Hawaiian princess #1!
Messy Hawaiian Princess #2!
Malia chose these awesome party glasses from the dollar store!
The kiddos stayed busy with this water table. We bought Allie the same exact one for her birthday and are just waiting for it to arrive!
Allie was so good! You know how it is… most times the kids choose the day of their birthday to mess with their nap schedule. But not Al! We were able to hold her off for a late nap and because we didn’t stop her from roaming around and getting dirty, she was super happy. But really Allie? Just learn to walk!
Happy Mommy and Daddy!
Look at those rolls!
Christa, Amy, Jenny, Myself, Laura, & Charity… all looking like beautiful Hawaiian ladies!
We tried to add all the kids… you get what you get!
Happy Birthday Allie girl!
Getting ready for song and cake!
Proud parents.
“Happy Birthday to Allie…”
“… Happy Birthday to YOU!”
Going in for her first bite NO hands!
Then she just ate it up! So opposite of Malia who barely touched her birthday cake. It’s fun to look back and compare their big day!
Opening presents!
Lovin’ us some Auntie Laura!
Allie sandwich!
And… this is why we don’t have a new family picture hanging on the wall yet.
The girls on the block + 1: Allie, Malia, Emersyn, Ava, Laelle and Hadley!
Big Sister, Little Sister
During second dinner (we had SOOO much food!) Malia helped herself to the entire container of rice.
Must have been some good stuff!
We ended the evening with a relaxing fire pit, holding off the inevitable cleaning after a fun night’s party!
Thanks to our wonderful family and friends! We LOVE you all!

No more “mommy milk”…
On Monday (7/18/2011) Allie had her very last bottle of breast milk! I felt so free when I was done pumping a few months ago, but it is a bitter sweet end to be done nursing. We are not 100% done yet. Desperate times call for desperate measures, especially at night time…
