Yet another reason I wanna see "Wall-E"

Right-wingers hate the movie. And, as expected, they invoke the name of the Great Vice-Beelzebub himself, Al Gore, who's become even more beastly than Bill Clinton in the collective subconscious of the wingnutosphere. The National Review even titled one of their blogs "Planet Gore." ("It's his planet. We're just living on it, goddamn it!") Good gravy, didn't these people learn anything from their little "Happy Feet" hissy fit? Okay, in the interest of balance, I'll mention that at least one rightie defends the film as an "indictment of liberalism." Uh-huh. Pixar's a regular propaganda arm of the great lumbering movement-conservative juggernaut, all right. "Hey doods! Ann Coulter's getting predictable. Let's make a cartoon robot our newest mascot!" Michael "Gay Penguins" Medved has yet to register his opinion of the film, but one former colleague predicts he probably won't enjo

It's sad but true

Cartoon Network used to have great cartoons, like Dexter's Laboratory , Powerpuff Girs , and Johnny Bravo , Teen Titans , and Megas XLR . Nowadays, CN's regular original cartoons all suck, with the obvious exception of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Someone please explain why Ed, Edd, and Eddy hasn't been canceled yet. And where's Gennady Tartakovsky these days? Man, at least the network still has Adult Swim.

Something we don't need...

A live-action "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe." Yes, I've heard that Joel Silver will produce this movie based on the 30-minute 1980s action-figure infomercial. (Oh, you mean it was really a cartoon show? You serious?) This sounds dumber than the live-action Underdog. Speaking of which...the cartoon Underdog would whoop He-Man's ass. And no, I don't want to see a live-action Hong Kong Phooey either.

Something I just realized

I actually like Family Guy. At first, I thought it was tired and lame, but it's grown on me. I want to check out American Dad as well. Any show that features cartoon teenagers stealing the Preznit's underwear is okay with me. P.S. Ed, Edd, and Eddy is still on the air. Crap.

The toon that won't go away

There's a commercial on Boomerang, the old-school toon channel, for another season of Pokemon. "New trainers! New Pokemon!" Say WHAT? When was the last time anyone bought Pokemon cards? 1996? And this show is STILL on the air? Man, it has managed to outlive even those lousy "Dragonball" series. They're probably still cranking out "Pokemon" because it's unbelievably easy to produce: Ash and his friends visit a town named after a color. They want to earn a badge. Team Rocket tries to ruin their plans. They throw a lot of balls and sick some Pokemon on Team Rocket. Team Rocket loses. Ash and company win. The end. At least I hope they've really, really, finally pulled the plug on "Ed, Edd, and Eddy."

News from Toon-Land!

It turns out that the last-ever episode of Ed, Edd, and Eddy will air on April 27. I'm quite stunned at the news. It seemed that this series would never end. Meanwhile, cool shows like The Powerpuff Girls and Johnny Bravo have long since fallen by the wayside. Sense that doesn't make. Anyway, I'd love to see Brak get a new series, but who knows if that'll happen. I think they'll move Metalocalypse to 2 PM before that happens. Maybe they'll also can The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, which started out funny and is now just gross. Meanwhile, I'm going to check out that Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie at some point. I'm more excited about this than I ever was about Serentiy. I know that sounds weird, but it's true.

This sure explains a lot

Via Rising Hegemon comes the news that a certain humor-challenged right-wing cartoonist has been arrested for DUI. This is his second offense. Makes you wonder if he's been writing and drawing under the influence as well. UPDATE! We have an update! One nice blogger with a strong stomach has compiled a whole bunch of Mallard Fillmore strips that mention Ted Kennedy, Ted Kennedy at Chappaquiddick, Ted Kennedy being drunk, drunk Democrats, and drunk driving. Ah yes, it's another one of those do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do types. Admit it, this is really shocking.

One more thought on the Happy Feet flap

What does the wingnutocracy think of those old cartoons where Bugs Bunny routinely outsmarts Elmer Fudd? It's a slap in the face of American gun owners! An insult to hunters! Not to mention a storyline that would warm the hearts of the eco-wackos and the PETA crowd. Quick, someone give Glenn Beck a call!
