We spent New Years at Dominic's Aunt Chela's house. Dec. 31 was also her 50th birthday, so it was quite a celebration. I got a new book for Christmas, and I couldn't put it down. I spent half the night in a chair reading and holding my sleeping baby. I didn't make it until midnight, Jacoby was still waking up every 3 hours or so and I just couldn't do late nights with no sleep.
Jacoby went down for a bit and Dominic and I just had to take pictures with him. Not the best family picture, but it'll do.
Grandma Speer just couldn't get enough of her grandson. She loved on him and played with him as much as she could.
Bobbi just loved holding Jacoby. I swear that she was happiest with him in her arms that night.

Christmas in Vegas
It's Jacoby's first Christmas! We decided to head to Las Vegas for Christmas this year and let Grandma and Grandpa Speer spend some time with Jacoby. Dominic and the boys went golfing while Cynthia and I played Bingo. Grandma watched Jacoby and had him all to herself for several hours. I think we were all in heaven. Christmas was wonderful and we had so much fun. Unfortunately, we didn't take many pictures to document Jacoby's first Christmas. We have a few, but most of them are in the morning when everybody was just waking up.

Christmas Pictures
We decided to send out a Christmas card this year with a family picture on it. We just set up the camera in our front room next to the Christmas tree. The pictures turned out pretty good, but we had a hard time getting Jacoby to fully face the camera. After we got a decent family photo, we tried to get one of just Jacoby in his cute little Christmas onesie, but he wasn't having anything to do with it. Oh well.

Little Naked Bum
I love baby's bum's. I think that they are so cute, so I decided that we had to have naked bum pictures of Jacoby. He doesn't have much of a bum, but I had to take pictures of it. If he ends up like his dad, he'll end up naked most of his childhood so a few pictures at 5 weeks old isn't going to matter.

Dress up
I had so many cute clothes for Jacoby and I couldn't wait to dress him in them. The problem was that he was so small when he was born, most of his clothes were huge. I couldn't wait though, and had to try out some of his cute outfits. The pants that I put on him in both pictures were 0-3 month and he was a month old!

Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving at the Wilson's! I dressed Jacoby up in a cute little outfit and off we went. It was the first time that many friends and relatives got to see Jacoby and he was passed around like a hot potato. Jacoby mostly slept through it all and didn't really care.
Grandma and Grandpa Speer couldn't wait to see Jacoby again. When they arrived, it turned into a "My Turn" tug-of-war with the baby. It was fun to watch.

Bath Time!
8 days after Jacoby was born, his umbilical stump fell off. I was able to start giving him real baths. I didn't care for bathing him in the kitchen sink, and I had a baby bath tub, but I didn't like that either. I found it easiest just to put him in a couple inches of water in the big bath tub. These pictures weren't his first bath, but close. These were taken Thanksgiving morning as we were getting him ready to go the the Wilson's. He's so going to hate me when he gets bigger for posting nude pictures of him on the internet!
After his bath, I cuddled him close to me to warm him up. Dominic thought it was a great picture of Jacoby, but my nose looks huge! :)

Tummy Time!
While doing "tummy time" one night, Dominic got the camera out and took some fantastic pictures of baby Jacoby. He was just a little over 2 weeks old and he looks so cute!
This was taken the same night, we had rolled him over and I was going to get him dressed for bed. He had the skinniest little legs! The outfit and onesie that he was wearing are the newborn size, and you can see that they are still baggy on him.
These pictures were taken a few nights later. The best way to cuddle with him was to lay belly to belly because he was so small. Proud papa and his son....

Visitors
We had so many people come to welcome little Jacoby to this world. It was a very busy week after he was born with people stopping by and wishing us all well. Grandma and Grandpa Speer were over the moon. Jacoby is their first grandchild and they have been waiting a long time for one! Dominic called them when my water broke and they made it to Logan just after Jacoby's first bath.
Grandma and Grandpa Allen also came over to give us well-wishes. Grandma was actually in the hospital when Jacoby was born and she was the first one to hold him (other than mom and dad, of course). Jacoby was my parents 15th grandchild!
Many others stopped by and gave us love. We appreciated everybody!

Jacoby's First Bath
When we got Jacoby home from the hospital, we decided to give him a sponge bath. I set up his bath stuff on the kitchen counter and sponged him off. I was his hair using the sprayer in the sink. I was a little nervous that I was going to do something horrible like drop him, but I did fine.
When Jacoby was born, he came out HAIRY. He had hair down his ears, back and arms. It was cute, so while we were bathing him, we had to take a picture of his furry little back.

Halloween!
Halloween this year wasn't much for us in the way of scary and dress up. It was the day that we brought Jacoby home from the hospital! Jacoby and I were both given a clean bill of health by our doctors and it was a good thing too, because I was ready to go home and start my new life with Jacoby and Dominic! Dominic took pictures of him in his car seat just so we could remember how small he was. He was tiny!
We got him home and we had to test out the nursery, so I rocked him and then Dominic put him in his crib just to try it out.
Afterwards, I decided to change his diaper. I forgot that he has a little firehose called a penis and so of course, he peed all over both of us. My very first diaper change at home was a disaster! He soaked his outfit and was screaming bloody murder because he was cold. Dominic just stood there and laughed (not that I blame him). We got him cleaned up and into some new clothes. Poor little guy was exhausted.

Jacoby's Poor Bruised Face
While I was in labor, Jacoby was face-up and was having a hard time coming down the birth canal. His nose got stuck on my pelvis and he pretty much stopped. After 3 hours of pushing, the Dr. took pity on me and got out the forceps. Jacoby was born within minutes with the help of the "salad spoons". Unfortunately, the forceps left bruises on his face and being stuck in the birth canal squashed his nose. He looked pretty battered for a few days. Thankfully, he healed quick and his nose went back to normal in no time!
This picture is the first time that I held Jacoby. You can kind of see the bruising on his face and how off-center his nose is. I just look exhausted.
They put a sign in Jacoby's bassinet declaring that he had a bruised face. I was told that some bruising can look like symptoms of much more serious medical disorders in newborns. So, they put the sign in so nobody freaked out and thought that there was something wrong with him.
The bruises had healed by the time this picture was taken, but you can kind of see how his nose is still off center. Poor little guy.

Jacoby Robert Speer
On October 29, 2007 at about 10 a.m., my water finally broke! I had been having contractions for 2 days and I couldn't wait for our son to finally arrive. We got to the hospital at about 11 and I received and epidural shortly after (thank goodness!).
At 3:40 p.m, Jacoby entered this world with the help of Dr. Strebel and the forceps. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 8 oz. and he was 18 in. long. He had a full head of hair and was gorgeous from the moment he was born.
Mom was exhausted, but fascinated by this little boy. I couldn't help but stare at him and marvel at how tiny and perfect he was.
Dad was so proud. He was so excited to be a father and couldn't stop holding him and loving on him.
