Old school 80's obscure underground haunting doomed occult heavy metal from Italy, this CD is ultra-recommended.
CD reissued by Black Widow as well as Andromeda Relix (500 copies) of this obscure metal album from Verona (Italy) Black Hole, started out in 1981, and released a few demos until this album came out in 1985. "Land Of Mystery" is somewhere between the quintessential of Progressive Metal sound and '70s Doom, with hints of cosmic rock and even new wave thrown in. Includes four bonus tracks. One of the most interesting things about this release, is the use of keyboards, which give many of the songs a cinematic, Italian horror movie feel.Black Hole started out in 1981, and released a few demos until this album came out in 1985. After that, they recorded "Living Mask" in 1988 but released only in 2000 by Andromeda Relix.

La storia dei Black Hole, misconosciuto gruppo di dark/rock, inizia nel 1981 nella città di Verona. Dopo alcuni demo-tape e cambiamenti di formazione, nel 1985 esce l'album di debutto, "Land of the mistery". Il discreto successo permette alla band di andare in concerto con Litfiba e Diaframma, all'epoca non ancora famosi alla massa, ma già coccolati dalla stampa specializzata e dagli appassionati di musica underground. Tra il febbraio del 1987 e il gennaio 1990 il gruppo definisce i contorni del secondo lavoro, "Living mask", che però non vedrà mai la luce a causa dello scioglimento del combo. Il cd ha i toni oscuri di un rock gotico lento, coadiuvato da tastiere e batteria elettronica, che creano un'atmosfera plumbea, ma mai noiosa, grazie a numerosi cambiamenti di ritmo. La voce sembra provenire da lontano, forse da qualche anfratto recondito nelle viscere della terra.

Satan would later change it’s name to Blind fury because they didn’t want to be associated with the growing number of satanic bands coming mostly from the newly emerging thrash metal movement, they released an excellent album titled "Out Of Reach featuring the same flawless musicianship and strong numbers, but without the great Brian Ross and with a cleaner production than on "Court in the act" the magic seemed to have disappeared though "Out Of Reach" is still recommended.
Blind Fury is essentially the band Satan became, as the line-up is identical with the exception of new vocalist Lou Taylor. You’d expect a simple name-change to be of no importance, but it’s pretty clear that the band had a new, although not all too different, style to boot. Songwriting is mostly of a traditional-rock and roll uplifting, playful nature with lots of various tributes to that lifestyle, and the appropriate simplicity to accompany it too. However, one needs only change focus to see the true nature of this album. Underneath, (mostly) dark, technical, borderline surreal – and very original – guitar playing reigns supreme, and is the one reason "Out of Reach" is of so much interest. Pretty much every note bears a meaning of importance. Once you hit play, it gets increasingly difficult to stop listening, as every second gets more and more interesting. It leaves you with the feeling of wanting more and more and more, until you realize you’ve spun the damn thing twenty times over already. The reason: Steve Ramsey and Russ Tippins. I am completely sincere when I say that "Out of Reach" has some of the most impressive guitar playing I’ve ever heard. It may not be as technical and fast as their "Court in the Act", but what it lacks in speed it makes up for in originality. A lot can be said about their projects, good and bad, but they were in my opinion the best guitar duo to come out of the NWOBHM.

This album is so intense that it is easily one of the best NWOBHM-live albums that I have ever heard. If you liked the Nightcomers you will surely like this one. Most of the tunes are not available in the studio, but if they were they would be Nightcomers era. Same band as the Nightcomers for the most part- Garry Lettice on vocals, Mortimer and Dudley on guitar.

Quartz came out of the British hard rock hotbed of Birmingham to join the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement in the late '70s. With a lineup that included John Bonham-associate Mike Hopkins and future Black Sabbath keyboardist Geoff Nichols, they were actually founded under the name Bandylegs but changed when Jet Records showed interest in the band. They signed a contract with the label and toured with both AC/DC and Sabbath before beginning work on their first album. The tour with Black Sabbath turned out to be quite fruitful, as they gained a tour manager (Albert Chapman) and a big fan in Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi. Iommi took over the production duties on their eponymous debut, drafting Queen's Brian May into the sessions to play some guitar. The album was important to the emerging scene, and they joined Diamondhead and Def Leppard in being one of the first bands to make heavy metal faster and less plodding. Quartz stayed relevant to the genre for their short time together, but by 1983 their irreconcilable differences split the band apart. Time has eroded how important the band was to the genre at the time, but fans of that period in heavy metal history know Quartz's place in the scheme of things. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide

Holocaust was a band that totally captured the quintessential NWOBHM sound. Rather than trying to explain the hard charging guitars, denim and leather wardrobe, gloom and doom lyrics, and punk-like ferocity of the movement, you can just as easily hand someone a Holocaust album and let a song like "Heavy Metal Mania" do the talking. This is a classic heavy metal album, and it's a shame it never received the attention they deserved.
