In Trent's Words

I turned 11 months old yesterday. My mom keeps telling anyone who will listen that, "she can't believe how fast I have grown!" If you ask me, I think I have already had a long life. I am very busy each day and have learned so many new things, I can hardly remember the day I was born.

I am still army crawling around. It is so much easier then crawling on all fours. Sometimes I attempt the "all fours" thing, but it takes too much energy. I have to save my energy for checking out all my toys. Did you know my entire house is filled with a million toys just waiting for me to play with? I really love cords, the remote control and anything that is small and easy to fit in my mouth.

My mom is always digging things out of my mouth. Doesn't she know I just want to see what it is? My mouth is very good at figuring out if an object is food or not.

I have 2 really cool brothers. They can run, jump and play better than anyone else I know. I love it when they play with me. Sometimes Wade will pick me up and carry me--I love it! My mom gets nervous when he does this, but he never squeezes me too hard. I hope to be just like my brothers someday.

I love it when my dad comes home from work. He talks to me and holds me. He is a good dad. When I get a little bigger, I will play "wrestle" with my dad just like my brothers. He also takes me for walks. I love outside. Whenever I am outside, it puts in me in a wonderful mood. It smells good and there are lots of things to look at. I can't wait until I can walk around out there.

I love my mom. She is so nice. I like it best when she holds me--she is good at it. She gives me a lot of kisses and hugs. She takes good care of me and almost always gives me exactly what I want when I want it. She also seems to know what I am thinking. Since I can't talk yet, I have to cry, wave bye-bye, clap my hands or scream, but she is pretty good at figuring out what I want.

I also like it when my mom sings or dances with me. Music touches me. I feel happy when it is on or when my mom sings. She is really good at singing "Popcorn Popping"--what a genius song--it will capture my attention at any moment!

I also love to eat. I refuse to let anyone feed me anymore--I am too big for that! I can do it myself. I will eat anything my mom gives me. She makes good dinners! It is a good thing I have 6 teeth to help me chew. I also love bananas and Cheerios. It is fun trying new things. I was getting really sick of squash and rice cereal. Now the choices are endless.

Since my days are filled with so many activities, I am exhausted by bedtime. I sleep through the entire night. My mom and dad are happy I do this. I am glad to make them happy, I don't even have to try on this one, I just do it.

Only one more month until I am 1 year old. That is going to be great. I heard from some of my friends that once you turn 1, life gets really good. Your mom turns you car seat around to face forward, you get to eat your own cake at your birthday party and I get to try cow's milk. All of it sounds really cool, I can't wait!

I'm a Big Kid Now

Wade is growing and changing so much everyday. I can hardly believe it. I have really felt the changes recently when he reached some specific "BIG KID" milestones:

Learned to ride a two-wheeler
He has, actually, been doing this for awhile now, but I have not posted any pics yet. He learned to ride in one day. I am sure he learned so quickly because he is a little older than a lot of kids who learn to ride their bikes, we just never had a good driveway to practice/ learn on. We also used to live on a street that was a little too busy to practice on. So, after seeing all the kids his age in our new neighborhood riding sans training wheels, he announced to Matt he wanted his training wheels off and the rest is history.

Read a book
Because Wade's birthday falls in between September and December, he is eligible for an awesome and FREE program (called kindersteps) at the elementary school. He goes to school everyday for half of the day (I LOVE, LOVE kindersteps!) He has already learned to read among other great things, but I can't believe he can read...

Lost a tooth
To Matt's delight, Wade lost his first tooth the other day. It had been loose for awhile and he came home from school one day with a toothless grin. He hadn't realized his tooth had actually fallen out (which means he probably swallowed it), but nonetheless the Tooth Fairy came.

Wade drew a picture (of the Tooth Fairy) and left a note for the Tooth Fairy explaining that he couldn't find his tooth, but if she wouldn't mind leaving a prize anyway. He then insisted on folding the note into a paper airplane.

The tooth fairy left him 3 tokens to use at Peter Piper Pizza and some fairy dust. Wade was thrilled and told us, "it was exactly what he wanted!"

Too many things in too short of a time frame. My baby is getting so big. I am so proud of the little person he is growing into. He has such a big heart and is such a good kid.

Soccer for Seth, T-ball for Wade

Seth is FINALLY old enough to play soccer! His first game was this past Saturday and he did great! I don't know if it was because this was my second "first soccer game" or if Seth has watched so many of Wade's games, but he was such a good sport and was really excited to get out and play!

Some of his teammates mimicked what Wade was like at first (crying, refusing to play, etc.) I think it is easy to forget how little they really are until you see them in a uniform, on a field, trying (or not) to kick a soccer ball in the right direction, dodging other players and making a goal.

Right before the game, Seth said, "mom, it is going to be fun playing soccer today!" He has been looking forward to his turn and I am glad it came. I am even more surprised his first game went on without a hitch due to his SWOLLEN hand which caused him to miss his first soccer practice.

Earlier in the week, Seth was climbing under one of my console tables. He stood up and his head caught the decorative part that hangs down which caused the table to fall forward knocking Seth forward too. Naturally, he put his hands out to catch himself and the table hit down on his right hand. Oh, it was horrible.

The poor kid was inconsolable. He was screaming and running in circles and couldn't hold still long enough for me to hug him. You know when you hurt yourself so badly you can't sit still? Poor kid. After a rush to the pediatrician and a few x-rays later, his hand was just bruised. No broken bones, thank goodness.

Each day he uses his hand a little more and has not let it hinder him too much. The skin has turned from a purplish to a greenish-black and the swelling has gone down by half. He is a tough kid who has kept a smile on his face through a hard week--way to go, Seth!

*********************************************

To the dismay of his soccer coach, Wade and his buddies took their first break from soccer and took up t-ball for the spring season. I have to say, it has been a HUGE change (Don't tell anyone, but T-ball is BORING!) :)

Matt is coaching the team along with the help from some other great dad's. There are 14 kids on the team and no one has done t-ball before. Let's just say, it is kind of a circus. Each game gets better as the kids learn and understand the fundamentals a little more and, I know, that is what it is about.

The best thing about t-ball is that they are the "Diamondbacks" (thanks Dad) so as part of their uniform they got a Diamondbacks t-shirt and hat. This is one uniform we will be using after the season is over! Wade loves his hat and you can often find him wearing it in the morning with his pj's, etc.

Although it is a big change from the constantly moving soccer game, change is good and it is also good to try all the sports before focusing on just one so...take me out to the ballgame :).
