9-11-10 I just think this picture is so sweet. Uncle Taylor wanted a picture with Shayla, and she leaned in to give him a kiss right at that moment. I love my slobbery, wet baby kisses!

At 7 months, Shayla started getting up on her hands knees and rocking back and forth, we thought it would be any day that she would start crawling. It took her another month to be able to give up the army crawl. She would crawl on her hands and knees a couple steps, then drop down to her belly. I’m not sure what finally clicked in that little brain where she realized that crawling was a much more efficient way to get around, but one day she just gave up the army crawl and has been unstoppable since! Within a day or two of giving up the army crawl, she started pulling herself up and standing. It took her a few days to figure out how to get down from the standing position, but now we’re moving pretty good. Still not any sign of her walking though yet.

This picture isn’t very good, but once she learned to stand up in her crib, she would spend a lot of time playing with her mobile, and less time sleeping. We’ve moved the crib to the lowest setting now, so she can’t reach.
Who wouldn’t love to be greeted by this after a nap?

I realized that I hadn’t taken any bathtime pictures since we started bathing her in the big tub. Up until 2 weeks ago, she loved bathtime, and she loved playing with her duckies. (She can even say ducky, although it sounds just like daddy, and doggy). When I would lay her down to rinse the shampoo out of her hair, she would start singing. I thought it was pretty darn precious. Now suddenly she has decided she hates bathtime. I’m not sure what happened, but she screams bloody murder and stands up trying to get out the whole time. I’m really hoping this phase ends soon, because giving her a bath wipes me out.11-10-2010 She got stuck on the chair and couldn’t figure out how to get through. I just laughed at her and let her figure it out on her own. It took her several frustrating minutes to figure out how to back out.
11-13-2010 We had a “reunion” picnic with some of the girls I grew up with. Shayla loved having another baby to play with. L to R: Natalie Hatch, Me & Shayla, Hollie Garrity and baby Natalie

Modeling her pretty new dress
11-16-2010 I was making pie crust, and while I wasn’t looking, she grabbed the bowl and started eating the dough. Naughty girl! She thought it was “num, num,” although I would beg to differ.

As soon as you start changing Shayla’s diaper, she rolls over and stands up on her changing table. It drives me nuts, but seeing this cute little bum hanging out of her clothes makes me giggle.

The way our stairs are designed, we can’t put the gate on the bottom. It is up three stairs. Although Shayla has been capable of climbing the stairs for awhile, we are not in the living room much, and so it didn’t tempt her. Lately, she has been exploring more, and keeps climbing up. She isn’t smart enough to get down, so I have to keep a close eye on her.

I’ve never thought much about Shayla’s “tongue tricks” because she does them all the time (and especially when she’s teething). This was on Thanksgiving, and everyone was so amazed at what she could do. She’s always twisting that little tongue around every which way.

I just had to get a picture of the way she was sitting there reading her book. Shayla loves books, and she’ll open them up and start chattering. She loves turning the pages, and unfortunately she still loves putting them in her mouth.

I made Babylegs for Shayla, and I had to try them on her right away even though they didn’t match the rest of her outfit. She got mad because I was trying to make her sit still for a picture.
That’s a little better. :)

Heehee, avocado booger.
We were at a wedding for David’s co-worker last month, and she got passed around the whole time. Everybody loves Shayla, and she’s quite good going to complete strangers. One of the ladies there mentioned to me: “You know all babies aren’t this good, right?” Yeah, I know. I’m very lucky to have such an easy baby (as easy as they come anyways). She’s a very sweet girl, and generally happy all the time. Whenever we are at the store, we always attract the attention of everyone around us. They always compliment her on her pretty blue eyes, “all that hair,” and the curls in the back. Even the random strangers always mention what a happy baby she is. I’m enjoying it while I can. She is growing up way too fast, and I’m sure all of our babies are not going to be this easy.
