First time blogging on mobile. :X I know I haven't been blogging much lately. But I kind of lost the inspiration for it, not like anyone reads it.

I gotta admit, Facebook and twitter are partially the reasons why I haven't been blogging... Its just so much easier to use those alternatives. And its more fun too.

Gender bias

NO SCHOOL EVERY FRIDAY STARTING FROM LAST WEEK! :D Yeah poly life rocks. >:)

You know all the talk about EQUALITY between men and women? I think its overrated. Because no matter how hard you try to promote equality, there will always be some people who struggles for predominance. I dont like to take sides when it comes to boy vs girl, because theres no end to it and there can never be a sure winner. -.- Gender bias is a thing of the past, i know they do that in china, and maybe some of them still do it today. My point is why not just live your life and deal with your problems instead of bitching about excuses like saying the opposite gender is/are jerks/bitches/whores/bastardos?

Oh shit im neglecting my blog again. :X
FIRST POST OF 2011!
I actually forgot about it this time. Forgive me blogger, but Facebook is way more fun than you are.

So what have i been up too? Let's see

Happy 2011 to everyone! I went for countdown at vivocity, it was ok though.
Dad bought a Kinect!
I had to sponsor one game
Forest green PHENOM
Oh did i mention it's holidays? Ending soon though -.-
Getting drunk with merilyn (Ok not drunk, but i had a nice headache after that)

I should seriously making it a point to drink alcohol more often so my face wont turn red so easily while drinking beer/wine/whiskey/stuff that troubled men drink.

She brought me to a dark and creepy place to drink. So dark and quiet you could even hear the sound of bacteria multiplying. If you dont believe me, then your ears are probably screwed.

Whats an outing with merilyn without camwhoring as our side activity? :) Im not exactly sure where she brought me to, but it was among houses that belong to the rich. I dont know why, but i just love it there. Its so peaceful. I told her we'll go back again next time. >:)

So yeah like i said my alcohol tolerance level is pretty sucky so i got a headache after drinking like, half a can of beer? But it was the larger sized can mind you. And she even convinced me to buy a second, regular sized can to drink on top of the larger sized one. :X

"Please promise you'll take me again"

Oh my!

Alright, im finally making the effort to update my blog! Geez im really getting lazy.

Holidays just started, its been an uneventful one so far. Got my electric guitar from some ang mo guy (Maybe british?) for a very good price of $260. Came with gig bag, amplifier and other accessories. Hell he even threw in his guitar stand for free!

Its a Squier by Fender Affinity Stratocaster in metallic blue with H/S/S pickups (Humbucker and 2 single coil) which was just what i needed to produce some of the more "modern" sounding music of today. My only complaint is that its in blue instead of my beloved red. T.T But I cant complain at the price he sold it to me. A real bargain considering the original price is $599!

The amp is a Fender G-DEC Junior 15w with several amp settings like metal, british, tweed and jazz, and effects such as delay, reverb (Both which are really cool) and tremolo. Speaking of tremolo, the tremolo bar (a.k.a whammy bar) produces some really cool wavy sounds. It also has a built-in tuner which i do not know how to use despite having read the manual. But its no big deal since i already have a proper chromatic tuner anyway.

Now I just need to find a way to record my guitar sounds directly into the PC. :X

Ok im taking the liberty to update my blog instead of letting it rot!

YOG group memeber linus invited me over to his event catering at charcoal last friday. Was supposed to make it thursday but darling merliyn couldnt make it.

I didnt really take note of the menu before going. But i think it was a little cheaper than how event caterings would normally cost. Also, this is the FIRST event catering i have ever attended. Sounds pathetic eh? >:)

Wasnt a big fan of the soup, it was some pumpkin thing, and ive had enough of it. The salmon was good though, came in a nice white wrapper which had merilyn wondering why they woul do such a thing. And i joked about how it would make a nice christmas present.

Went to walk around after that. Started to camwhore on the train home.

I think everyone was starring at us wondering what this crazy couple is doing taking self portraits of themselves with 3 different cameras. Yes, i said that right, 3 different cameras. I brought mine and she apparently brought 2. >:)

Anyway...

Looks AND sounds great doesnt it? Thats the guitar sound i like, and it was the sound that actually got me into guitars in the first place. Too bad dad wont let me buy an electric guitar until i get better with my acoustic. Hmm...

Life goes on...

Long time no update! Been rather lazy lately...

Nothing majorly important or urgent to update. Well maybe except one piece of good news... I've started learning guitar! Coming into my 2nd week of learning guitar on my own. I think i've been making good progress so far. At least, i think so. :X My fickle mind is now telling me to learn electric argh!

Spent my hari raya evening at holland village catching up with merilyn. The last time i saw her was back on july 4th!

The top floor at starbucks was like a library with many self-absorbed kids with macbooks (Im starting to see the trend here... -.-) and their friends "studying" for whatever upcoming exams they have 10 years from now. So we headed over to coffee bean which had lesser self-absorbed children and a more fish market like environment.

And someone actually said we look like we'd make a good couple. Not the first time ive heard that. :X

PHENOM PHENOMenon!

The PHENOMenal is finally here! Before I begin, I just wanna say that the following review about this yoyo is a photocopy of the same review I posted on the Spinworkx forum. IM LAZY OK?

Gone is the bi-metal design of the prototype PHENOM the world has come to love (Apparently whatever's left of the design is now it's sibling, the PHENOMizm) and say hello to all-aluminum goodness. I know many people were skeptical of this choice of material, considering the plastic/metal construction of a bi-metal yoyo may affect the yoyo's weight distribution and stability. I was rather disappointed when I found out about it, fearing it would play like it's predecessor, the Meteor. Which is notoriously unstable when played at high speeds in the hands of an unskilled player.

The PHENOM sports a similar design to the PHENOMizm. Except it has a narrower looking 24k gold plated rim (Instead of nickle plate) and larger diameter mirror side caps. It is a tad heavier than the PHENOMizm (67.7g vs 69g) and although 1.3 grams might not sound like a lot, believe me once you throw it, you know its heavier.

This may come as a little shock, but the PHENOM feels different in your hand compared to the PHENOMizm despite both of them having the exact same profile design. The PHENOM has a sharper, more angled feel to it while the PHENOMizm is more rounded. This is most likely due to the more round lipped rim design on the PHENOMizm.

The PHENOM side by side with it's bi-metal counterpart, the PHENOMizm.

The guts of the yoyo. Like the PHENOMizm, the PHENOM comes pre-installed with a Dif-E-Yo Konkave bearing. Do take note that I am not using the stock YoYoJam silicone pads response in this photo. However, my review will be based on how the yoyo plays like entirely stock/out of the box unless I state otherwise.

The stock pads play just like how you'd expect any padded silicone response to play. Except I found this one to be a little rougher and snaggier which didn't quite suit my taste, it also seemed to wear out my strings faster than any other response I've used.

After all my years of playing, I've come to realise that metal rimmed yoyos play better than full metal ones because they were more stable somehow. I suspect it might have something to do with the weight distribution. In comparison to the Speeder and Meteor, the PHENOM surpasses it's predecessors in every way possible to surpass. No pun intended. Remember how skeptical I was about the choice of materials? Well, I take back whatever skeptics I had about this yoyo. Every throw is solid, stable, and fast. Definitely not what I was expecting. I guess I underestimated this yoyo a little too much and instead retained the mindset that the prototype played better because it was a bi-metal. No doubt YoYoJam did an AMAZING job with the balancing of the PHENOM and for once I can safely say, YoYoJam finally has a yoyo that is comparable to many of the other high-end metal yoyos out there. Most especially yoyorecreation, SPYY, and YoYoFactory.

Gap comparison with the PHENOMizm. To my surprise, the PHENOM has a very slightly wider gap width which will assist you in landing those multi-layer string tricks with ease and minimal sacrifice on the spin time.

Overall, the PHENOM is just one amazing yoyo that completely blew me away, and I'm not being biased because Hiroyuki Suzuki is my favourite player. Remember wjhat I said about me being skeptical about this yoyo? As a matter of fact, I expected the PHENOMizm to play better because it is bi-metal and therefore supports my theory of bi-metals being better than full metals. With that said The PHENOM is truly a PHENOMenon that every player should try. ;)

The new HTC Desire HD and Desire Z will be coming out this November! Time to run to those mobile carrier shops and start playing with it.

Term 6 (Or is it 7?) Just started in Shatec, and man is it getting old...
My 1 week holiday has come and gone so quickly. Sucks dont you think? Not to mention i spent most of my days rotting at home. I only went out to spinworkx on saturday and with sunshine the following day, too bad she had to leave early. -.-

Somebody eating frozen yogurt for the first time. >:)

YoYoJam フェノミズム/PHENOMizm

*Drum roll*

Guess what I got my hands on today? :)

Yep thats right! The all new, highly anticipated signature series from Hiroyuki Suzuki (Mickey) has arrived! Enter the PHENOMizm!

This yoyo is one amazing work of art. I often found myself just picking it up to admire it for a few seconds before putting it down. Which isn't surprising considering this is a yoyo designed by Mickey himself, who as you all know, is fashion crazed. It sports the same mirror caps found on the Meteor and other yoyos as well as your standard dual silicone pad response.

But wait! Whats that pink cloth underneath it? PHENOM YOYO POUCH?! >:)

The PHENOMizm weighs in at 67.7g which is a lot heavier as compared to Mickey's previous yoyos. (Speeder 65g, Meteor 64g, Speedmaker 63g) Which kinda puzzled me at first because heavier yoyo means slower style of play. Although my years of experience has proven that it only affects your speed to a certain extent. After all, its the player, not the yoyo, right? :)

The guts of the yoyo. If you have always followed my previous yoyo reviews. You may notice something different about this one. Using YoYoJam's patented new Solid Spin Axle system which is found in many of their new yoyos today, this gives the yoyo a more solid feel to it as well as making it smoother on the string. Thanks to it's design, this performance of this metal rimmed yoyo is much more similar to that of a full metal one. Of course its impossible to exactly mimic the performance and playability of a full metal yoyo on a metal rimmed. You can't change the laws of physics. Although I still feel some vibe in the string when I play I came to realise it depends on the way I throw it.

YoYoJam has taken their yoyo designs to a whole new level of uniqueness. Notice how the brass nickle plated rims are in the middle rather than the side like your traditional metal rimmed YoYoJam. This is a new method of weight distribution which shifts the weight balance more towards the center of the yoyo rather than the side.

Oh and it comes pre-installed with a stock Dif-e-Yo Konkave bearing. And when I say stock, I really mean STOCK. This yoyo is tug responsive right out of the box just like how a normal KK bearing would play when you first bought it. No big deal but I wish it had come pre-washed.

How the Solid Spin Axle looks like with the caps removed. In the past, the axle tower was just a rounded piece of molded plastic which stores the axle and thread. This opens up a common flaw in YoYoJam yoyos where the plastic will start cracking if being dropped many times. Perhaps this is a better solution. And at the same time it greatly improves the yoyo's performance, too.

Comparison with it's predecessors, the Speeder and Meteor. I know its not a very good photo to compare them, but thats the best I can do. Basically the PHENOMizm has a much higher wall than the other two. Meaning the shape is much narrower and steeper. This allows the yoyo to land string tricks easily without compromising the tilt and spin time, as well as allowing it to slice through the air with ease. In other words, it is easier to play fast with this yoyo, it was obviously built for speed, given Mickey's style of play.

So what more can I say? I love this yoyo. I purposely rushed down to Spinworkx just before it opened so I will be among the first in Singapore to purchase it. It plays great, solid, smooth, and very stable. Easily puts the Speeder and Meteor to shame. The PHENOMizm is a major leap closer to my dream yoyo. Basically you take whats best about the Speeder and Meteor, upgrade the axle, shift the weight more towards the center, and the PHENOMizm is born. However for the steep price of $110, I question myself as to whether or not this yoyo is really value for money. Considering a similarly designed yoyo (The SFX) costs only $70 and has pretty much the same features apart from the more winged shape design. On top of that, it also comes with a thin bearing for responsive play. In any case, another great product. YoYoJam and Hiroyuki Suzuki should be proud.

It's been a while...

Yeah so ive been rather lazy to update my blog lately... Lots have happened!

Worlds 2010 is over! CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTOPHER CHIA ON CLINCHING 3RD PLACE IN THE 1A DIVISION IN ONE OF THE MOST COMPETITIVE YEAR! This is only your first time at worlds, you're new to many players, most of them wont give a damn about you even up till now, but at the rate you're going, its sure to change soon.

Also congrats to my hero mickey for placing 2nd! I love the new remix. And i really hope to see you win worlds again!

Im sure most of you have been watching the YOG on TV over the past week. Well in case you didnt know (Sorry jaslyn, lol) I just completed my forced YOG volunteer work. Wow total bummer right? I never talked about it and now all of a sudden im saying i have done my part in the YOG.

So what the hell have i been doing at YOG?

Well my school volunteered a few intakes to be the mascot talents and mascot minders throughout the YOG period! Yes, thats right. I actually have to wear the mascot suit, either lyo or merly. And im telling you. ITS AN OVEN IN THERE.

Most epic toilet sign ever...

Oh and there were BP'ians at Seng Kang Hockey Stadium too! Didnt see anyone i know though.

The match where singapore pwned chile 6 - 1.

Overall it was a great experience. Probably once in a life time. After all, not everyday do you get to dress up as a mascot for an event. Especially one as grand as YOG. Its fun to interact with little kids as they try to hug you and shake your hand. You suddenly feel like a superstar with the paparazzi snapping endless photos of you the moment you step out of your "hiding spot". And you need not worry about unglamness because your identity is protected by the mascot. Although there were many times we complained about the mascot suit being too hot and smelly, we all know we will miss the times we had at YOG long after its over. I'll be waiting for my cert soon. ;)

As a little bonus, heres a video i shot during one of the mascot appearances on my last day. Be sure to watch it in 720p goodness!
