Adam is Getting OLD!

OK, that's mean, but 36 sounds so old and heaven forbid I'm going to be there in three years. For his birthday confectionery request he asked me to make my fabulous coconut cream pie-made with coconut milk and toasted coconut-this year, recipe on request. It is to die for I tell you.  To celebrate we took a day trip to Lake Tahoe and set up camp on Kings Beach for the afternoon. It was better than any ocean beach in California, minus the waves. I think there will be many more trips here. Then on Sunday we had a little get-together with Adam's family and my little pie got out done by the gorgeous and actually very yummy cake his mom bought.  Adam wants a new grill this year, but has yet to pick it out.  Our patio and porch cover just got done and we are anxious to start using the space-right now it is 105 degrees though.

What do you like? Pie or cake?  Adam chooses something different each year: pie, cake, trifle, bread pudding, etc. We almost never have ice cream with it though.

The Tahoe Pics

For some reason he loved playing in the sand this time. The water was so blue at a distance and so clear you could see the bottom the whole time.  The water was brisk but it was hot and it felt great!
He hates this hat but he's so cute in it.
That's not dirt on his face it's WhoNu's?, an Oreo substitute.
When we first arrived he was piling sand in all the chairs before he learned.
Our water baby. She was in the water the whole time except when it got a little exciting over at our neighbors with the fourteen craw fish they caught under the dock.
My baby!

5 years

Five years together. Well, actually six if you count dating.  We celebrated by eating out at a pay by the pound seafood restaurant. We ordered shrimp, blue crab and king crab (they were out of craw fish-bummer) and had them throw in some sausage, corn and potatoes.  They boiled it all in a cajun spice, and spicy it was. This is all that was left.

I know it looks absolutely gross, but it was so good! It took us almost two hours to eat it all so afterward we just got a small scoop of gelato at the mall before going home.  My hands smelled like fish for two days.  Romantic!

We just recently went to a family wedding and it gave us some time to think about when we got married.  Actually, I think it was more when we got sealed that we thought about.  We, of course, were sealed after children were in our home and I think the sealer took that into consideration when he gave us advice. He emphasized that while the relationships between parent and children are important, it is the relationship that is between husband and wife that is enduring as children grow up and enter into their own relationships. It is the spousal relationship that must be constantly nurtured. During these last five years we can see why this is important. If we are being attentive to our relationship there is more peace at home and this trickles down into the relationships we have with our children. Adam and I have taken this advice to heart. While I admit there are sometimes days at a time that we won't have an actual conversation because of the daily grind, we do our best to make sure we are attentive to each other when there is down time. Dates have been very important to us. I know as more children enter our lives this will become more difficult.  In the meantime, we have had no regrets to sharing our lives, and hopefully eternity, with each other. We look forward to what lies ahead-especially the quick trip to Tahoe without the kids before the baby comes-YEAH!

Jaunt to the Beach

Adam's mother hosted another great bash, like she did last summer, combining several birthday celebrations and our anniversary. As always good food and company were there.  Then Olivia got to stay at Nana's, by herself, for a few days. We all met up at a beach house that she had rented for the week and got to enjoy some great weather. Actually, the forecast was for the 60's and overcast and since I've been to the beach plenty in cold weather I didn't even bother bringing my suit. Well, of course as we are coming down out of the fog, descending to the beach it becomes clear and the weather ended up great. I had a workout tank and I cut off a pair of my fat (pregnancy) workout pants so I could enjoy it.  Benji has recently been adverse to getting dirty. This can mean actual dirt or even water on his hands and he wigs out. So annoying. Anyway, so he didn't love the beach or sand. Luckily we had a beach tent and he hung out there quite a bit when we didn't force him out.  Olivia played for hours in the freezing water and didn't even notice the cold.  Adam's sister came out with her son and one of Adam's brothers, with his wife and daughter came out too so there were cousins about. We stayed the night trying to enjoy the sound of the ocean out the window but mostly I spent the night not sleeping with Benjamin right up against my back.  I still can't get that kid to stay in a pack-n-play while we travel.  Anyway, good times.
