YY and I went to Coffee Club yesterday. I had Hazelnut Cappucinno, which looked and tasted good. :) We talked for a whole 2 hours, shopped awhile and then off I went to meet my boy for Sakae Sushi Buffet. As usual, 10 plates of Salmon sushi for me. Yum.

No photos from yesterday because I was totally immersed in the company and lately I haven't been taking very many pictures.

Sigh, I only know I have been very busy, and I am going to be this busy, all the way till 30th June, my first day of work. In fact, I got to leave my house in 1/2 an hour's time.

I feel so sleepy.

We went to Changi Airport Terminal 1 Popeyes for lunch. I like their Cajun fries, very nice! :D The boy was busy, trying to eat and watch the cartoon at the same time. He didn't want to leave (and finally did, reluctantly of course). So cute.

I spent almost 2 weeks collating the photos from my HK graduation trip! *pant* As expected, it's all fun. I never get sick of looking at the photos again and again because they never fail to bring smiles to my face. Yay.

Day 1 Sunday 18052008

We caught a morning flight (Cathay Pacific) to Hong Kong. *yawn* Upon safely touching down, we were brought to Dorsett Seaview. Though our trip was free and easy, it was actually inclusive of complimentary coach rides to and fro the airport. The "tour agent" moonlighted his Disneyland products as well as 老婆饼 on the journey to our hotel, and we fell victimed to that. Haha.

Frankly, Dorsett Seaview hotel room is rather small, we triple shared one, which exacerbated the smallness of it. However, it was very cozy and I slept well every single night of the trip (or maybe I was just too tired lah)! Apart from that, the renowned dessert stall was just across the road from our hotel, which explained why it subsequently became our late night hangout place. :) The desserts really beat those of Singapore's hands down!

Aftermath, we spent some time and money at Ladies' Street, before hopping over to Jordan to meet Andy for dinner (Janice's friend, a local, whom she met through her exchange programme to Stockholm) by MTR (Mass Transit Railway, or our MRT in other words). To sidetrack abit, we used Octopus card (our EZ-Link card), I think it has something to do with 四通八达?This is because in Chinese, an Octopus card is called 八通卡。I speculated that this resembles an octopus, with 8 tentacles, interesting, but Bernice and Janice didn't seemed too interested when I mentioned it to them leh! I guess one shouldn't talk about too intellectual stuff when on a holiday, haha!

Anyway, Andy brought us to a 茶餐厅,and the food was really good! I had abalone, ham with noodle soup! We saw Watsons while walking along the street. After dinner, he walked us around, we did more shopping at a fashion outlet, Ladies' Street (what's new) and Temple Street before heading back. I think he played a good host too, dinner was his treat! The bottom right hand picture shows us in our "pyjamas", almost ready for bed, because the next day we'll have to leave the hotel by 6 AM (so as to beat the rush hour crowd on the train) as we were heading to Shen Zhen!

Day 2 Monday 19/05/2008

Rise and shine, had MacDonald's for breakfast since no other eating place was opened at 6 AM. I appreciated their 24/7, and even if their meals were cheaper than Singapore's, the hashbrowns were excluded, no idea why. Haha. Thereafter, we walked to Mong Kok East Station, then Hung Horn KCR Station, and finally reached Lo Wu, where Shen Zhen is. I think I would have lost my way if Bernice wasn't around!

Alot of shopping was done there, before returning to Hong Kong island for lunch, presenting to you, my 鱼蛋面!

Then we went to the City Outlet (which houses brands like Nike, Adidas, ESPIRIT etc at unbelievably low prices) at Tung Chung, but in my opinion, the place is overrated. Hmm..since we were near Sunny Bay (where Disneyland Resort is) and it was still early, we decided to drop by first (but the visit was really scheduled the next day in our itinerary).

We ooh-ed and ahh-ed over the design on of the train which brought us to the resort, took truckloads of pictures but the irony was that we did not step into Disneyland that day. Haha. The reason was it was drizzling when we reached, and we didn't want to walk around with umbrellas in our hands, which would really defeat the purpose of pure enjoyment. Being very rational, we headed to Tsim Sha Tsui for more shopping, but I guess we were all tired, and with the rain dampening our spirits further, we headed back to the hotel to leave our stuff in the late evening.

I still remember the words over the speakers while our train was approaching Disneyland though. It was so cool! "Welcome to the magical land..." as we were approaching and "The train is now returning to the futuristic Hong Kong island..." Something along those lines!

We did, however, scuttled out of the hotel around 7 for dinner at Yoshinoya, then headed over to Ladies' Street (again)!

Then it was back to the hotel, and I think we rounded the day with a chit-chat session which spanned hours. Woo. Now that I think about it, our tiredness never seemed to set in for long. :P

Day 3 Tuesday 20/05/2008

We had yummy dim sum for breakfast, which was so cheap but the portions were huge! Haha. Coincidentally, we sat next to a table of 2 Singaporeans and before long, they realised that we were Singaporeans too, I think from the NTUC plastic bag that was used to hold our umbrellas (it was drizzling). They then tried to talk to us, but their interest dwindled as quickly as it built up after realising it was our graduation trip, because it was their post-ORD trip before entering universities. So much for looking young. Hmm hmm.

After breakfast (and ditching the dim sum boys), we made our way to Central MTR, and then a bus to explore Madame Tussauds, which was like how fun lah! We also visited Hard Rock Cafe, and I spent quite an amount buying T-shirts!

Presenting to you, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong! Ok, the only disappointment was probably the fact that Jay Chou (the wax figure) doesn't looked quite like him in person. Still, I struck every single post I could think of, standing next to him. Cheap thrill. :P

We actually wanted to go to The Peak, and Disneyland too, on the same day, but it started to pour. Janice decided to stay in Hong Kong, while Bernice and I hopped over to Shen Zhen for more shopping. I had to spend my last 50 RMB, because I overlooked the note and didn't spend it on the previous trip. Aside, I think I didn't buy enough stuff too. It was bargaining and more bargaining! Haha. Then we came back and met Janice for dinner. We returned to the hotel to wash up, rest after a tired day, play Doraemon UNO (that was bought at Temple Street), gossip and then go for dessert. Heaven!

Day 4 Wednesday 21/05/2008

We were really bent on going Ocean Park and Disneyland on our 4th day. This was largely due to the fact that they were the only remaining things not done on our itinerary, and these activities had been postponed several times due to the drizzle/rain! Lady luck was smiling at us, and the whole day was sunny yet cool!

First, to fill my stomach, 鸡扒面 at a eating place near our hotel! I think the expression on my face on the photo on the top left hand corner is so priceless, liked I was deprived of food for days! It was a candid shot by Bernice, and I took revenge later on by taking a photo of her taking photos!

Our destination was Admiralty, since we taught it to be safer to visit Ocean Park and enjoy our rides as the weather was so good, in case the weather turned nasty later in the day. Tactical hor? By the way, I like their admission tickets, so cute!

The rides! We were rather risk averse and attempted only the Ferris Wheel, Flying Swing, Crazy Galleon and Ocean Park Tower. :) The point was we saw an elderly auntie in the vicinity, and I commented that the rides were really too thrilling for her.

Then, as we were wondering around, we actually saw her played The Dragon (which was the most exciting ride in the whole park, a roller coaster with 3 loops!). The sarcasm earlier on haunted me. She was so much braver than us!

Later, After Janice and Bernice mustered up enough courage, they went to play the Mine Train. I told them I'll skip it, because my weak heart probably can't take all the thrill (somewhat like a roller coaster ride, less scary than The Dragon, but scary all the same). They took a long time while I waited as the queue was pretty long. Moments later, as they returned and I searched for a response, they had none to offer me.

It turned out that as they were reaching the front of the queue, they chickened out, and an uncle after them laughed very hilariously. Oh well. I guess that summed up our not-so-exciting Ocean Park adventure. Heh.

After lunch, we finally arrived at Disneyland! The only sad thing was I was already low on cash by then and had to use my Visa, meaning I would lose on the exchange rate. All in the name of reliving my childhood dream at Disneyland! :D

We played almost every single ride! They had this roller coaster ride too, but it was enclosed (meaning we couldn't see how the ride was like, how many twists and turns, the thrill index etc). Being as bold as we ought to be, we courted death! It was just slightly scary, but the stuff we saw in there more than made up for all of the fear contained.

Day 5 Thursday 22/05/2008

The last day of our trip, which spelled so much sadness. :( Breakfast, followed by some last minute shopping.

We met Andy again, wanting to treat him, but he only had a glass of beverage. Chatted abit, then headed back to our hotel concierge to collect our luggage and bags. Yes, that's Guardian in Hong Kong you see in the picture below, I thought I took Watsons, so it'll be good if I take one of Guardian. :)

Andy bought us cookies as a farewell gift and we were enjoying that at the airport waiting area. Dinner was fish and potato with ice-cream as dessert, very nice, for an in-flight one.

Ok, I'm glad I persevered till the end of this post.

I'm happy because I should be travelling again soon, this time, with my sister and one of my best girlfriends!

A Finished Lap

30th May was a happy day. On hindsight, it is probably already archived into the collection of "The Happiest Days in Sharon's Life". :D

When I was young, way back before I had any notion of age, I wanted to study hard and make sure I top the class every year. That, did not happen, but I was happy then - life revolved around stealing potato chips from the refrigerator (undiscovered) and trimming my Barbie dolls' hair.

When it was time for PSLE, I wanted to get into Anglican High. I can't remember the precise reason, though apparently I aimed to go to a SAP school. That, did not happen, either. I ended up in Temasek Secondary School. In Secondary 1, I was the top 10% in my cohort, but I slipped drastically as the remaining 3 years unfolded. Aside, I hated my CCA (Chinese Calligraphy) and my teacher in charge (who was also my Higher Chinese teacher), but I managed to live through the decision I made in Secondary 1 for 4 years, all for the sake of a decent CCA grade.

In Secondary 2, I hated my form class (because of the rowdy Malay boys), and wanted to get into one of the triple science classes the following year though I had no idea why that would make me happy. I got into a double science class instead, and was finally appeased and convinced that humanities is truly my forte after being awarded Top in History in Seconday 4.

Once that was clear, I wanted so much to get into the arts faculty of one of the top 5 JCs after 'O' Levels, but my preliminary result was so lousy, I suddenly lost heart and did not do my first 3 months in any school. That truthfully, was perhaps the biggest setback to me in my entire academic life. Eventually, I made it to TPJC science, only to realise that I was still "following the crowd" and putting myself in the wrong faculty.

Relatively, I was much happier during my college days than my secondary school days because of new experiences. I was the PCCG Representative/Assistance Class Representative, had my virgin attempt at softball and participated at the National Level, won penmanship competitions for 2 successive years, tried to fall in love, and had so much fun with my girlfriends after school.

However, my 'A' Level result was a total flop and I couldn't get into any business course in NUS/NTU/SMU but had to make do with FASS instead. Thereafter, I couldn't care less about studies and totally immersed myself with work at ICA and spent some of the best time of my life there. School was regarded as my part time occupation. Discreet at first but salient over time, I realised I was doing pretty well though. Every semester then turned into an internal struggle of school-work balance, or to quit work altogether.

I think I made the right choice, and only quitted in January this year, for the people at work, who have been there, done that, gave me a sense of direction. I took advice from them, and knew where I was heading. I learnt and owe them so much I don't think a meal would suffice as a favour returned.

Of the 2 relationships that took place during my undergraduate years, I treasure the second and am making every effort to keep it close to my heart. Of the many friendships forged, I know who are my friends and who will be there. Of the many professors who taught, I savour the lecture times and express my million thanks.

Looking back, perhaps I was mediocre – mediocre enough not to always end up wherever I wanted to go. But mediocrity is really a standard set by no one but yourself. I started Year 1 in NUS having no expectations and ended Year 4 with loads of them. For the little girl who wanted to make it out of university with a good degree, I am THERE.

That said, there are a million things I could possibly do after graduation, but at the end of the day, it really boils down to what I want to do. Clearing my mind of what I want to do in life smells like the break of dawn. It’s my life and I only live once.

I want it and I got it. My ambition to join SPF as a Commercial Affairs Officer (CAO) crystallised. All my first bests this time, am still loving it. :)

If happiness is sublimal, perhaps content is just fine and maybe even better than happiness itself. I could ask more from life, but I am content with life as it is now. I am engaged in a different game play altogether where my only competitor is no one but myself. In this case, I can fall and am sure that no one will trample on my demise. And if I rise, I have overcome no one but myself.

I am content.
