Jane Eyre

Image
Well folks, the summer reading list has been pushed to the wayside a bit with all this moving, packing, and sweating due to extreme heat  going on. I did, however, manage to complete Jane a while back and thought I'd share my thoughts. To tell you the truth, I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book. The story reveals the life a young woman named Jane who is an orphan and finds herself in a few situations (or settings) throughout the course of her life. Although Bronte describes each setting quite well, the focus of the story truly is Jane and her inner thoughts. The story is actually written as if Jane herself is telling the tale which I found made it more interesting because it was like you were having a conversation with her. The main event in Jane's tale, that is also revealed in the synopsis so I don't feel bad writing about it, is her love affair with her employer Mr. Rochester. Although the book was written in the 1800's, Jane's...

Oh, and by the way

my coolness factor sky-rocketed while we were in IL last week because I'm the proud new owner of one of these bad boys,  from  http://store.apple.com/us Yes, that's a white iphone folks and I freakin love it! Long story short, I left my phone at a restaurant one evening and by the time I realized I didn't have it, someone had swiped it from the table. I was actually a bit shocked by this because 1)I had the 3G iphone, not even the 3GS and 2) I guess I figured so many people have their own cool pieces of techno-goodness they would return a lost one. I guess this was naive of me to think. Side note- Mike was less than pleased because he's had the cooler phone for about 6 months now. Needless to say when I returned from "looking for my lost phone" with a new one to rival his coolness he was a bit... deflated. He also wants me to make quite sure people understand before the phone was stolen, I left it on the table. Apparently he does not feel this typ...

Summer Travel

Image
FYI readers- when you schedule to close on a house and plan three separate occasions to travel outside the area you call home, it can lead to the summer flying  by before your eyes. I'm not complaining, this summer is one of the greatest yet (for real), I'm just saying... summer travel = summer past. So, what have we been up to? Here's the lowdown on our July timeline thusfar... 7.5- U2360 concert at Soldier's Field in Chicago This isn't my picture, I found it here , but this is better than mine. Get a load of this stage!!! It was such a great concert, a great mix of old and new plus, we got to attend with some great friends who didn't even mind we were in row 36 and the last row in the entire stadium was 39, talk about a birds eye view! 7.9- Said goodbye to one helpful dad and welcomed another. Why were they here, you may be asking? To help the clueless happy new homeowners with everything from drywalling to moving, sawing and mold removal. Rest ...

Troubleshooting

Image
Grrrrrrr, I know I've been MIA but here's why, - we're currently undergoing phase one of moving meaning everything but our bedroom, kitchen, and one couch + tv are heading to our new home. - Mike has been DIYing the crap out of our kitchen, with the help of some fantastic fathers =). He's had success with taking down the soffit aside from a minor plumbing setback however, we started ripping up the floor and encountered mold due to water damage... major blow .  - We ordered our new cabinets to be delivered around the end of July! This is exciting and, for the moment, I'm remaining positive that we will have all the other problems fixed before we install these puppies.  Needless to say, we're expanding our capacity for troubleshooting considerably. In the mean time... enjoy this little clip and repeat to yourself, only 4 more days, only 4 more days, only 4 more days then, click on this insiders scoop  to curb your anticipation for a while. Ican'tfrea...

Happy weekend!

Image
Fireworks over Sunday Lake in Ironwood, MI from July 3rd, 2010. Friday is here ladies and gents and today is a very special Friday indeed because it's a holiday weekend!! Mike and I have an exciting weekend ahead as well. Due to the fact that we're both teachers and have this time off, we've decided to extend our three day weekend to five days =). I can't wait for fireworks on Monday night! Then we head to downtown Chicago Tuesday night to see U2 in concert. While I'm so excited to spend the 4th with Mike's family, I can't help but think of 4th of July's past and the big celebration we always had with my side of the family. This year we'll all enjoy the 4th on our own but I know, at some point in the day, we'll all remember the great times we've had together on this very special day (and perhaps remember some not so good things too like anxiety and yelling but hey, that's family for ya!!). I hope you find something en...
