a day in the life…
Actually, it’s just two hours.
I’ve wanted to document something like this before, and lately a couple of my friends have done a day in the life and they inspired me to try it for real.
Like I said, all I got was two hours worth. Here goes:
3:15 – Wake Brookston and Everett up from their nap. (Roz is napping, Nick is at work)
3:16 – Change Everett’s diaper while he attempts to unload the diapers from their container. I prevent him from doing this by giving him some hand sanitizer from the pump. He loves it – spreads it on his hands, and then rubs it on his cheeks. DOn’t worry folks, his face nice and sanitary.
3:20 – Change Brookston’s diaper while he makes faces in the mirror.
3:25 – Reheat some mac’ and cheese for lunch. Most of it ends up in their mouths. They go for seconds and thirds.
3:38 – Chase them both down with a washcloth.
3:40 – Try to convince boys to throw squishy blocks into a box. It doesn’t work – they want nothing to do with me.
3:45 – Give up and decide to sweep the kitchen floor instead. Now I’m popular.
3:36 – Everett tries to commandeer the broom. I attempt to continue to sweep. He thinks this is hilarious.
3:48 – Leave the broom to stop B from unloading all the books off the bookshelf. End up reading the beginning of Stop Train, Stop with him until he decides to read another book on the couch.
3:50 – E is sweeping the kitchen floor himself now. Thanks, bud.
3:54 – Break up a fight over the broom.
3:57 – Pretend to cook with the boys. I try to cook up a squishy block stew. Now the boys want to throw the squishy blocks.
4:00 – Attempt to take a picture to add to this account. I find it impossible to get both in the shot because they both want to look in the viewer.
4: 05 – Try to get some dishes done while they’re happy.
4:06 – Fight breaks out – the boys have found one of their forbidden cars. I take it away and the world ends. The screams are so loud it wakes up Roz from her nap.
4:12 – I can’t get Rosalyn back to sleep. The boys are still crying and fighting over something or another.
4:21 – I break down and yell at the boys to stop fighting and throwing noodles across the room. This seems to work, they smile (? huh wha?) and then settle down a bit for the next few minutes.
4:22 – Roz stays sitting up on her own for a moment for the first time!
4:23 – Whilst sitting happily, Roz blows out of her diaper like crazy. It’s on the blanket, me, her. I run to the bathroom with her.
4:25 – After noticing that I’ve been compromised by the blow out I strip.
4:26 – I leave Roz in the bathroom to break up another smash down fight between the boys. I separate them into different rooms so I can focus.
4:29 – I’m back to Roz, and it takes a while.
4:33 – I put some clothes on again.
4:35 – I put on the movie UP to distract B&E so I can nurse Roz.
5:15 – My friend arrives, and we hang out, and I stop recording.
There you have it – two hours.
