Our last day in Charleston

Well, it has been a while since the Charleston posts and I think I put the last one off on purpose.  Just like we all didn’t want it to end I didn’t want to end my blogging about it.  IMG_4877

But now it has been so long I can feel like I am going back.  So, after we winked our hotel goodbye we headed out for some breakfast at Toast.2015-05-04 09.08.22Al and I are peering over, not a ham, but  hand-cut currant bread stuffed with cinnamon apples topped with apple cider syrup and one stuffed with peaches in peach syrup.  Um, you go to Charleston for the food, folks.

We headed out of town to Magnolia Plantation. Before venturing into the gardens we watched an informative video on the Garden’s history.  Very informative, and here we are watching it.  Well, Amy is watching it.IMG_4886

Spanish moss is cool, but….DSCN6452

…not as cool as this…DSCN6453I hope that these pictures convey to those of you who know me that these are my people.

IMG_4894Just build around it.

Watch your step, the Muncie girls are prowling.DSCN6512

Some turtles sunning.  Hello South Carolinian turtles.DSCN6508

And then we set up the stop-motion of our lifetime.  I am going to post this before I get it done though, because it is taking me a while to edit.  It will be worth the wait.2015-05-04 12.59.21

After this we left South Carolina and headed northerly to North Carolina.  We dropped Hannah off at the airport and said goodbye until the next Lady's Trip.

So here was our master plan:charleston schedule

And here is a stone paver with the name of the place we went:DSCN6388

Where shall we go next?

Sunday in Charleston

Sunday in Charleston started with some pumped hair and bright red lipstick.IMG_4776

We attended church and then headed out for a picnic with the Angel Oak.  But the Angel wasn’t ready for us yet, so with our problem solving skills developed over our collective 120+ years of life we concluded that we could pic-nic on the side of the road.DSCN6427

And so we did.  I like saying picnic by the way.  When I say it fast over and over I find that I, in reality, did pick Nick in my life. I pick Nick every day.   But that is beside the point.  Here we are preparing our leftover taco salad.IMG_4778

When the Angel Oak Tree was finally ready for us we were awed.

IMG_4797

Our awe looked like this:DSCN6441

But we pulled it together and took some pictures of all of us.DSCN6432

Here’s the specs:DSCN6443

Did Amy’s yoga challenge pose for the day.

2015-05-03 19.15.21

Well, we attempted it.  Here is some coaching from one who isn’t super-qualified.  I mean, I can’t do that seat of janktification if you can remember that.  2015-05-03 19.15.48

But really, it’s all about effort in life.2015-05-03 19.17.03

We set off for a horse drawn carriage ride.  And when we arrived at the carriage dispatch center, place – I don’t know what you call it -  we took a groupie with a horse.  IMG_4810

This horse.  Isn’t he or she handsome?IMG_4813

And then we got ON the carriage and of course took another groupie.  Al is really skilled at taking these.IMG_4814

And we toured the city.  We don’t have a lot of photos of the city, just awkward ones of us:IMG_4817We were taking in the sights and not photographing them this time.

We arrived back at the station and on our way out were perturbed by this sign:IMG_4824

Until we at last found the beast.  And got a picture with it.  Don’t worry I survived the encounter.  attack chicken

We went and found Rainbow Row.  IMG_4831rainbow row

And breathed really deeply as we passed block after block of Jasmine.IMG_4851

Stop and Smell the Jasmine.IMG_4847

Really get your face in it.IMG_4849

Just get your whole being in the Jasmine.2015-05-03 19.47.22

We took a sunset photo with our friend the Atlantic.IMG_4868

We went back to the Inn and sat under this tree and talked for hours.  We covered every topic, laughed, cried, and we’re just really good friends.

Charleston - second half of second day

So here we are back in Charming Charleston on Saturday afternoon.DSCN6333

We took a stroll down Philadelphia Alley,DSCN6353

where I found this tiny man:DSCN6354

After lunch we donned our yoga pants and headed on down to White Point Garden and since we had the pants for it – we did some yoga.

It wasn’t awkward or anything.DSCN6366

And we hadn’t planned for our yoga spot to be right next to where all the walking tours stopped, but it did work out that way. You’ll see them there on the left.DSCN6360

So while we sat around like this:

DSCN6363(I don’t know what this pose is called, something like bound seat of janktification, but you can tell from my face how incredibly comfortable it is.)

And did cool things like this:DSCN6377

Tourists, who were supposed to be learning about the Defenders of Fort Moultrie in front of this monument (see below), were heard making comments like “I want to do some yoga.”DSCN6359

But really, we did make it look pretty cool.

IMG_4676

We walked along Murray Blvd.IMG_4678

And up East Battery Street,IMG_4682

And saw the sights.DSCN6390

And there was some dance walking.dance walking

I can’t resist a good fisheye mirror, DSCN6395

Amy can’t resist historical plaques and signs.  DSCN6397And Al and Hannah can’t resist being spectacular.

IMG_4724And sometimes you’re just so spectacular doing your dance moves that other people can’t resist you.

The dancing didn’t end there.  Oh, no.  We danced on the pier near waterfront park.pier dance

IMG_4746IMG_4747

Here we are looking fantastic in front of the pineapple fountain and some random folks.DSCN6404

And to make up for not being close to the pineapple fountain we just got right in the other fountain there.DSCN6409

And the yoga was just a part of Amy that day, so we had some more yoga … in the fountain, while Al took pictures of her feet in the fountain.DSCN6418

All that coolness and dancing and yoga really requires some dessert.  So we fancied up and took some mirror selfies like a real teenager would, DSCN6421

and shared dessert at High Cotton.  Vanilla bean Crème Brulee, Oatmeal Cream Pie, Chocolate Trio and the Mixed Berry Cobbler. IMG_4762

Almost everything on the dessert menu.IMG_4763  Put it all right in our faces.

We went for another  walk, (how many steps did you get that day, Al?) came home, brushed our teeth like the responsible people that we are, and headed to bed.DSCN6426

Now do you see why I split the day in two?  Whew.
