Noah is 11!

Holy smokes it took us WEEKS to fully celebrate Noah, and we had so much fun doing it! First up, the week before his birthday, was a friends party at Urban Air.
These lucky boys basically had the place to themselves!  I wasn't expected to stay there until they closed but they were having way too much fun to leave early.
The night before Noah's birthday he really wanted to be launched onto the bed.  That's not a job for Mom anymore, but Dad and Adam did the trick!
Noah's actual birthday landed on a boring old Wednesday this year, and he woke up as he does most mornings- to a house without any siblings in it!  But the kids all recorded a good morning birthday message to him so we showed him those right away,
he opened one great present,
and enjoyed an extra tasty breakfast- quiche and orange rolls!
I've always told Noah that he doesn't have to go to school on his birthday since no one else in our family has a birthday that falls on a school day, but he definitely wanted to go this year.  He didn't want to miss out on ringing the birthday gong!
And everyone was actually home that afternoon for some cake and presents- that was a birthday miracle!
Then it was time for the annual photo shoot with Mom and Dad!
He's catching up to me!!
Noah picked IHOP for his birthdate dinner (again). The best part is putting together LEGO while waiting for our food!  (The worst part is the fact that they don't play music in there and it always feels a bit like there are illegal activities going on in the back room.)
There were plenty of new LEGO sets for this birthday boy to enjoy!
And a few other fun surprises too!
It was more than a little bit ridiculous how long it took us to all gather around the family dinner table for the traditional compliments for the birthday boy, but when we did, we did two bonus rounds because Noah had waited such a good and long time to hear all the things that we love about him.  And the list was long!  Here are just a few of the things we love about Noah-

11. Noah is super chill.  He doesn't get frustrated easily, whether it's with his robotics adventures or his school life or his often-absent siblings, Noah rolls with a lot, which is a total switch from the earliest years of his life.

10. Noah is so brave!  He has tried a lot of new and fun things this year- ziplining across a rainforest in Mexico, the DSM Youth Symphony, he even has his own YouTube channel! I love the adventures of Bluu and Blue, and I'm so impressed with the work he puts into creating and editing and uploading each video.
9. Noah is so funny- there is a reason that he has so many -isms on the blog!

8. Noah is creative- whether he's drawing, making music or building with LEGO, or exploring worlds on Gorilla Tag, he loves creating!

7. Noah tolerates my love for him as my one and only youngest bebe.  He'll always be my baby, whether he likes it or not, and I especially love that he is still a baby in a house full of teens (puberty is just around the corner though!).

6. Noah is one cool dude.  He isn't afraid to dab up his friends, new and old, and talk to anyone.  Even the other double bass player in orchestra, who happens to be a girl.

5. Noah has a special relationship with each of his siblings.  It's so fun to watch their one-on-one interactions.  Usually LEGO or smelly boy stuff with Adam, the Target game with Emma, and super chill chats with Leah.  It's adorable!

4. Noah is a smart and deep thinker. He gladly takes on the challenges presented to him in GT and robotics and loves engaging in a good conversation about science.

3. Noah is my Wordle buddy!  I love our morning tradition of eating breakfast side by side while working on the New York Times games together.

2. Noah is kind- he doesn't pick on or criticize other people, he's either good friends with someone or just doesn't know them all that well yet.

1. Noah is our best little Buddy Boo!  Happy birthday to you Noah!  Thanks for letting us celebrate you all month long!

Jester Park Field Trip

On a perfect fall day, I got to join Noah at Jester Park for a field trip of hiking, canoing, and pond creature catching! It was so much fun to spend the day with him and his friends. Noah is one popular dude!
No worries from this experienced little paddler!
How many memories do we have at this very spot?  It's one of our favorites in all of Iowa.

Marching Band

In no particular order, I think these pictures prove that marching band was the highlight of the fall at our house! Guard parties, trumpet dinners, late arriving costumes, a new old trumpet for Adam (Grandpa Great Henscheid's horn lives again!), frustrations, early and cold mornings, late nights and long drives to competitions, and lots and lots of new friends and great memories were made in marching band this year!
Senior night was a bittersweet one! I think if Leah could do it all over again she would have started color guard her freshman year.  It has been one of her best high school experiences!
And a huge shout out to these two supportive cuties, who spent a lot of hours cheering from the stands!
This was their amazing show- The Thrill of Victory!
