PARTY

In anticipation of having the baby before Lucas Birthday, we had Lucas' third birthday party last Saturday. It was SO much fun. He requested a Digger theme, no big surprise there. I made street signs with diggers on them for the decorations because oddly, there aren't many birthday kits in the stores for kids in love with construction. I did find some online, but it was too late. We made little goodie bags for the kids and Lucas helped put them together. I made a digger cake, I notice while the end result isn't something I am going to post on Google images, it is something that I really, really enjoy. We planned games and I blew up over 100 small balloons. The kids raced to pick them up, and then we flung them all over the room. After that got old we played parachute with a sheet and gathered all of the balloons onto the sheet then shook them all over again. This was a huge hit with three-four year olds. We played hide and seek, hiding under the bed soon became a favorite. We also hung fruit roll-ups off of strings and had the kids try to eat them without using their hands. It was really funny to watch. We opened presents and Lucas got spoiled, thank you very much to all of you for being so kind to him. Then we had cake. He blew out his candles very well without spitting on the cake, and that was groovy. I was so happy to have a chance to do this for him before the baby comes. He is such a good little boy, and I think he really enjoyed himself, I know I did.

Well we are going to have another baby in four weeks, but this is our other project. We grew our yard from seed over the last month. I babysat it everyday and watered it three times every day (at least) to keep the seed wet. It was really overwhelming at first, but it got better as time went on-sort of like a new baby. We mowed it for the first time today. I am very pleased with the results, now we need some trees. We bought an oak, but we are waiting another week or so to let the grass be as developed as possible before we bother it by planting a tree. It is so nice to look outside and not see weeds or empty dirt.

Lucas is in love with diggers, many of you already know this. We spend a lot of time with Scoop and Bobcat, the names of his two favorite diggers, in the sandbox because all of his other dirt got turned into grass (I think he will be less sad about this once he gets to play on it). We got creative the other day and buried his feet in the sandbox, then we buried his legs, then we decided laundry was no big obstacle, so we buried all of Lucas under the sand. Before he could come back in stripped him naked and I carried him to the bath tub so I wouldn't have sand in my carpet. A very, very fun time. Next summer we may have to add another bag of sand for all of the sand lost and washed out of his hair and clothes.

Re-buring for a more comfortable possition.

Future Climber

Lucas found some of my webbing from my rock climbing gear, and it became his new favorite toy. He tied the dining room chairs together, tied up his toys, dragged mom around the house, and love getting tied up himself. It is funny how he finds one item, as silly or random as it can be and will play with it for hours. I ended up putting the webbing away because I worried a lot about him playing with it when I wasn't in the same room giving him my full attention because he is only two and could really hurt himself. So it has now mysteriously disappeared. It was fun while it lasted. I think he will be a great climber one day. He climbs all over Dad and is getting good about shifting his body weight. His strength is getting good too. I think in a year he will be ready to try out a gym, we'll have to practice at the park for now. I don't think he'll quite get tying knots, but by five he'll be able to learn some of the basic ones.

Fun Night Out

There is a program here called Parents as Teachers, it comes through the public school system and is designed to help early childhood development. They have all sorts of fun activities and one of them was Big Truck Night. Lucas had a blast. There were all sorts of trucks, and a few treats, and a blow up jumping house thing. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I was grateful it was a night when Adam had no meetings so he could go with us because it involved a lot of lifting, and I am just not up to that right now. It was fun to see him run frantically from truck to truck. It was also really good because there were lines for him to wait in, and we are working on patience right now. It is a lesson he is learning pretty easily.

Air force Transfer Truck, this thing was really, really huge.

September ends in a blaze of glory

Kristen (my friend and future running partner) threw our other good friend Erin a baby shower. They had little Brock Maxwell Last week. It was super fun to get everything ready, then gab with the girls. I love baby showers. If you have a baby, I will come. Anywhoo, it went well and she got spoiled, so she had plenty of cute clothes and stuff for her super cute little boy.

Life has been super busy the last few weeks for me. I have been living in five minute intervals between moving sprinklers so my lawn will grow. We finished worked with a bobcat and a lot of time with a rake to get it ready to plant, but we finally did and it is growing, pictures to come in a future instalment.

To fill the five minute intervals I have busy, busy Lucas to keep me on my toes. We have been encouraging him to dress himself, and sometimes it doens't always work out ideally, but I want him to independent, and proud of the job he does. So here he is after his work. The shirt is inside out and backwards, and the shorts a backwards too. I actually left him like that because I didn't see any harm in letting him.

He really wanted to take a picture with mom, so we did. Awww he is so cute.

Showing the shirt on backwards.

Showing you his rock-hard abs, and oh, the pants on backwards. I asked him to show me his shorts, and this is what he did.
