Martin's First DATE!

Tonight my oldest went on his first date.  Here is what he wore (and yes, Peter wanted in on the pose):

Martin has liked this girl for years.  He wanted to ask her to homecoming his freshman year, but was too nervous and worried she would say no.  So instead he took his friend, Sophia.  It turns out this girl has liked Martin for years and was hoping he would ask her to homecoming in 9th grade, but thought he was dating Sophia.  Based off of his mood, I think things went well.

Happy Birthday, Martin!

 Happy 17ish birthday, Martin!

This is the year Martin opted to spend his birthday with his friends.  It was strange for the little kids, but liberating for me.  When kids are younger, they enjoy the pomp and circumstance.  When they are older, they want to be far away from their parents.

Don't get too excited about driver's ed Martin.

Helen is involved in 'Girls on the Run' which is a running club that teaches the girls virtue and perseverance.  She had her last run of the season which was a race.  Martin spent an hour of his birthday watching Helen place 5th out of nine runners.

Martin took off and the rest of us stayed at the park and enjoyed the weather.

Here we are singing Happy Birthday to him as he blows out a scented candle surrounded by cake pops from Starbucks.

Happy birthday, Marty!
You are loved more than you know.

Brian the Carpenter

One of Brian's birthday gifts was a power drill.
He put it to good use and built me a storage shelf for my records.

This is the finished product and I love it!
I just need to stain it or paint it.  It will take me awhile to decide on the color.
What do you think?

More of This & That

I took this picture for Future Martin to look back at High School Martin and wonder why he wore his hair this way.  It is a point of frustration for me.  I pray a young lady will come along, catch my son's eye, and mention she prefers guys with shorter, well kept hair.

Little Katherine LOVES to be read to.  "Please read to me," she will say.  Sometimes Brian will read his newspaper to her.

Each week, Stuart and Katherine look forward to going to the grocery store with me to search for The Robot.  Thankfully, every week they have been able to find him.  I just need this novelty to last as long as possible.

Here's Peter with one of his buddies (and our Godson) living his best life with hotdogs and ketchup.

You would not believe how many people stop and ask me if Stu and Kate are twins.  They might as well be.  They have their own language.  They are inseparable.  I told Katherine I signed up Stuart for pre-school for the fall and she cried.  Once she figures out that she will have my undivided attention, I'm sure her feelings will change.  It's been very cold here in Southwest Wisconsin these two couldn't be happier about the post-bath fireplace.

Peter has excelled at reading and writing.  Here is is writing out his own Valentine's Day cards for his classmates.  He's one of thirteen in his class and he has memorized the spelling of most of their names.  He only needed his class list to double check.  I was pretty impressed.

Two weeks ago, we had a lot of snow in a few short hours.  Obviously, this is the natural setting for Stuart's AT-ATs.

Speaking of Stuart, I think he just got home from a spelunking expedition?

And here I am with Second Family.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day from this cherub!
What a dream to wake up to a giant candy bar and cards from the grandparents!
